View 10 RepliesIs there a way i can grant a windows authenticated user say abcadam privilege:
-> to create, execute and alter the stored procedures that will be created by him only:
Point is we do not want the user to execute alter or modify other stored procedures out there for that DB
What kind of permissions I need, when I want to see the system views, perfstat, ect...but I don't need admin responsibility.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying a create views that would join 2 tables:
Table 1: Has all the columns need by a view (
Name: Product
Structure: ID, Attribute 1, Attribute 2, Attribute 3, Attribute 4, Attribute 5 etc
Table 2: Is a lookup table that provides the names of columns
Name: lookupTable
Structure: tableName, ColumnName, columnValue
Values: Product, Attribute1, Color
Product, Attribute2, Size
Product, Attribute3, Flavor
Product, Attribute4, Shape
I want to create a view that looks like
ID, Color, Size, Flavor, Shape
Is there a way to give someone the right to create only views and no other objects in a database? Currently I have given the individual ddladmin database rose, but would rather be more restrictive?

Here are the steps I used to create my database
Tools -> connect to database -> Select datasourse - Microsoft SQL Server (SqlClient) -> Server name - comp4_8SQLExpress -> Log on to the server €“ Use Windows Authentication -> Connect to a database -> Select or enter a database name €“ MyDataBase
comp4_8 - is the name of my computer. I am using Windows XP Professional SP2. Login as administrator without password.
Now about the problem I have. On local machine everything is great! But I hosted my website and got this error. The question is how to give permission to this user to connect to my database.
Cannot open database "MyDataBase" requested by the login. The login failed.
Login failed for user 'ANGELINAASPNET'.
I'm trying to create a report which would give the latest transaction on a database, which all sit on different servers. I wanted to know if there is an a simple way tracking the latest transactions instead of getting the information from the database tables.

While I'm trying to configure rs db configuration, I€™m getting "Create a Grants Rights Script" error when I click Apply button in rs configuration UI.
For this setup; I€™m using 32-bit rs on 64-bit windows 2003 server and trying to connect 64-bit sql db instance on a different 64-bit box . both boxes are in same windows domain. I could also able to create rs db from rs configuration UI successfully. I'm using sql sa credentials and installed SQL SP1 on both boxes. Pl let me know how to fix this error.

Hello all,
Being still a relative newcomer to SQL Server (people may say I'm trying to take on too much being somewhat inexperienced once they read about the problem I'm trying to tackle, but alas...) I'm running into the following problem: I need to create tables in my user database on the fly (using Stored Procedures) so that each table can be created many times in the database but only once for every user. The tables should be named something like "username.Table1", "username.Table2" etc. as opposed to "dbo.Table1". I then want to use the stored procedure from .NET/C# in my web application, so that i can create the complete set of usertables for each of my clients.
Now, I tackled the stored procedure part (that is, it creates all the tables I need with all the parameters I want) and am able to use it from my web application (which took some time to learn but proved quite easy to do), but I cannot seem to get it coupled to the current user (instead of the dbo). Every time I trie, the tables are created as dbo.Table1 and when I try to create a new set, it gives a warning ("table with name such and so already exists..."). I made sure to log in as an authenticated user (using forms authentication) before trying to create the tables but this gives the aforementioned result.
What am I doing wrong? I use Visual Web Developer Express, SQL Server 2005 Express and IIS version 5.1
Please help :-D

I have created a windows library control that accesses a local sql database
I tried the following strings for connecting
Dim connectionString As String = "Data Source=localhostSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=TimeSheet;Trusted_Connection = true"
Dim connectionString As String = "Data Source=localhostSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=TimeSheet;Integrated Security=SSPI"
I am not running the webpage in a virtual directory but in
C:Inetpubwwwrootusercontrol
and I have a simple index.html that tries to read from an sql db but throws
the error
System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.

I looked into the .net config utility but it says unrestricted and I tried adding it to the trusted internet zones in ie options security
I think that a windows form connecting to a sql database running in a webpage should be simple
to configure what am I missing?
I am setting up SQL audit on sql servers in my environment based on requirement. I want to create database specifications ASAP database created. I tried DDL trigger but Audit doesn't support triggers. So I created audit specifications on model database. the only problem with this is every specification created on new database with same name.database specification name includes newly created database name or other methods to create database specifications on newly created databases.

The web site worked fine when running inside Visual Studio, however when I tried to run it in its PUBLISHED format it was giving this error message:

Login failed for user 'CENTAURUSASPNET'.

I solved the problem by running SQL Server Management Stdio, right clicking “SiteData database -> properties -> permissions->view server permissions then I chose “CENTAURUSASPNET and since I DID NOT KNOW what grants are ESSENTIAL for the functioning of the database, I GRANTED EVERYTHING ( I ticked ALL the permissions).
But since, probably, a lot of GRANTS are not only unnecessary but also may compromise the security of the web site, I would like to know what are the ESSENTIAL OR MINIMUM GRANTS NECESSARY for making the database functional to the web site and what GRANTS may compromise security.
Hi All,
My application is currently integration with reporting services using custom security extension. I have my own USER and ROLE database to determine who/which role can access certain reports.
My question is how to give access a report to be viewable by everyone? I dont want to assign all users or all roles to achieve this.
The other thing that I found out is, let say I change the name one of the user/role. Because of this, the authorization will fail because the old name/role is not in the DB anymore. Is this expected? or is there a workaround it?
Your help is appreciated.
Thanks!
I have installed new SQLServer2012 instance and my domain user have sysadmin privileges on this instance. I have a restore procedure and it will execute WITH EXECUTE AS 'domainmy username', for all the developers have exec permissions to this procedure. But newly installed server this procedure was failing with the following message. But the same procedure executing fine on other servers.
Msg 262, Level 14, State 1, Line 1
CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'.
Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally.
I'm using SQL Server 2012 and was attempting to move the msdb, model, and tempdb databases to a new location and accidentally gave their log files an mdf extension instead of ldf when providing the new pathfilename. After the server wouldn't start I checked my script and noticed my error. I have good backups of my system databases, so I was hoping to start the MSSQLSERVER service in single-user mode (using the -m startup parameter) and then just restore master using sqlcmd.Â
Unfortunately the service was starting but I couldn't connect via sqlcmd using any of the three protocols (it said the server was not found or not accessible each time). I also tried using the dedicated Admin connection but I got the same error. Then I went into the Templates folder and copied the master, msdb, model, and tempdb templates into the DATA folder and tried to restart SQL Server but still no luck (now the MSSQLSERVER service won't start at all). Is there an easy way to fix this mess without having to reinstall from the setup application?
While attempting to set up sql replication in MSSQL 2005 one of my user databases is now in the systems database folder. I need to move it back to the user databases folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We can restrict users from accessing the databases from the security. But is there anyway , we can restrict users from seeing the available databases on the server, user can access and see the database he or she has access to other databases will not be visible?

Hi,
I am using SQL Server Express Edition 2005 as a backend database working with Visual Basic 2005.
I am using Vista and having two users to access to my computer. User-1 and User-2.
I created a database in User-1 and works fine Visual Basic 2005.
Now the problem is when i login to my computer system with User-2. I cannot able to access the database with encountering error like "User-1/SQLExpress". I know that i cannot able to access to database which was created in User-1.
Do you any solution to this problem. when i login with user-1 and user-2 it should able to access database.
Thanks.
