View 3 Replies View RelatedI have somme users who need to truncate some tables owned by DBO. I know that only table owner or DBO can execute TRUNCATE TABLE but I don't want grant DBO permission to those users. Do you have any suggestion ? Thanks a lot.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI know that only the owner of a table can truncate it.
I want a user to run a procedure that truncates a table. Both the procedure and the table are owned by dbo, however the system says that the user can't truncate the tables because she doesn't have permission. The user has dataread and datawrite global permissions, and I do not want to give her dbo perimssions.
Is there a solution to this?
I want to grant CREATE, ALTER, VIEW permission to user but not DML permission?
So user can create Object but can't drop and delete it or user cant insert , update, delete from table.
I have Given db_datareader,db_denydatawriter, and granted create, select, alter permission.
But user is able to drop.
Hi all,I know that it is possible to encrypt Stored Procedures using 'withencyption'.But my problem is that when there are so many decriptingmethods available how far will the encyption be secure. Is there any other method to encrypt the stored procedures that areresiding on the customer sites. We do not want the customers to meddle with the SPs.If anyone knows can u please let me know.ThanksDilini
View 1 Replies View RelatedHullo folks, I'm having what I assume is a fairly mundane security issue.
I have a SQL login that I am trying to restrict as much as possible. This account's sole goal in life is to hit the server, return some usage statistics, then truncate the table it received the statistics from. I would like to refrain from granting this login permissions on the physical target table if possible.
Usually I can wrap up "protected" operations in a stored procedure, then grant exec permissions for my user and I'm good to go. However, TRUNCATE TABLE gets cranky with me when I attempt the above method. I suspect that has to do with the fact that TRUNCATE TABLE is effectively modifying the table itself as opposed to merely deleting data.
Is it possible to grant this login ONLY execute permission on a stored proc that TRUNCATE's tables without giving the user any physical permissions? Am I going about this the wrong way?
Hi
Is there a way to give a user a Truncate permission on a table without being in sysadmin role or dbo.
Thanks
The application user is given
db_datareader and db_datawriter and grant execute permission on all the schemas to execute the stored procedures
but using this permission this user cannot execute truncate command. what other permission should be given to
execute truncate command.
Thanks
Hello,
I am trying to grant solely the SELECT privilige to a particular user and to a particular database.I am using Sql server management studio express to do this and SQL Server 2005.
I have created a new login and set the server roles to public, then on the user mapping page, I have checked the box next to the table I wish the user to access and have selected the database membership role - public.
Next, On the Table Properties, I have added the user on the Permissions Page and Selected "Select" under the grant column
When I click on effective permissions, the select command does not show and when I try to login with that user, the table does not display.
What I am doing wrong?
Thanks

What is the correct way to create a security group that allows the group members to Select (Read) the content of a database?
1. Create a security group in AD
2. Add the required members to the group
3. Add the security group as a login on the SQL server (Under Security>Logins)
4. Add the security group to the specific database with Grant in Connect and Select
How can I assign permission to new database for all the existing user in SQL.?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to do a schema compare and data compare via VS2012 and I am getting below error: The reverse engineering operation cannot continue because you do not have View Definition permission on the 'Target' database.
Whats interesting is I created a viewdefinition role and added the group(to which the user belongs) to the role. However I dont get the error if I make the group the dbowner. Is this a bug?
I have windows 2003 reporting services 2005 that has been working fine. Now all of a sudden when I go to http://localhost/reports I am unable to assign security to folders(the link is hidden) the New data source button is hidden, the new folder button is hidden, upload folder and report builder are also hidden. I am logged in as aministrator.
Also when I connect to reporting services through SQL Mgmt Studio I have the same issue, there are no options for permissions only a general option.
I'm sure it's a permissions issue but what do i do to resolve?
Thx
Why don't you folks (SQL SERVER Management Studio Team or SQL SERVER Database Engine Team) provide an option by using which I would be in a position to know what all the other objects are depended on a selected object and vice versa. That means:
When I select a Table within the SQL SERVER Management Studio if there is an option for understanding "Which all the objects (tables or views) it is depended on (I mean Foreign key and etc... kind of relations) and also Which all the objects (Tables, Views, Stored Procedures and etc...) are using this table", It would be of great help for all developers.
I can be contacted over kotis@microsoft.com

How do you handle user level security with SQL Server 2005?
Say I have an HR database.
In Active Directory I have two groups: Managers, Employees.
Now in this HR Database I want to setup permissions in such a way that Managers can see all employees under them (but not other managers) and the employees can only see themselves.
(I'd have various levels of management defined in a table somewhere, so that each employee has a manager ID that links to another employee so that the CEO would be manager of everyone by working down the chain).
What I'm trying to understand is the best way to handle the permissions.
I'm not entirely clear on how to deal with that.
Would I use user chaining to do that, I wouldn't need impersonation (that's just for instances where you want dynamic SQL and it won't execute with user chaining, correct?)
Anyway, just looking for some general direction on this (obviously I need to get a good book it would seem).
Would I create a stored procedure that runs with EXECUTE AS permissions so that I'd have a non-interactive login it uses that has table access then all the other users have permission to execute the sproc?
So that sproc runs, pulls back a SELECT * FROM tbl_HRINFO and using a WHERE constraint limits who is returned WHERE SupervisorID = CurrentLoggedInEmployeeID ?
Also: How can I determine who is logged in and running the procedure, would the sproc use the SELECT USER_NAME command to see who was running it?
As you can see, I'm working from square one on all of this.
Not sure if my posting entirely made sense, but hopefully someone can get me pointed in the right direction, thanks!
If user want to see the grand total for a measure with include all members, even though the user has limited access for that member, so how we can do using DAX?For example, let’s say the total revenue for all the divisions in a cube is $15,000. You create a role called “Division A”, and set it up so members of that role can only see the revenue for Division A, which totals $3,000. If you use a front-end tool like Excel to access the cube and use the division hierarchy to see the total revenue, you will see the revenue of $3000 for Division A, but also want to see the Grand Total for the revenue as $15,000How we can achieve above scenerio in tabular model (DAX).

I grant read/update/insert permission on the speicific columns of the table on the users. I want to write the T-SQL to retrieve what permission/column permission does the user have.
Hi,
I am new to reporting service. I set up a couple reports and deployed them to Report Manager. I then add my colleague's Windows user account to the report folder so she can view the reports. When she tried she got Login failed error. I have to go into the SQL database and manually add her account into the Login and assign permission to her for each database or stored procedure involved. Then she can view the reports. We do want to control who can view what reports and later hopefully who can view which part of a report. But do I have to manually give permission to each user account/or group in the SQL server? There got to be a better way to do this I feel. Can we use just one account to talk to the database and let what we set in report manager control who can view what? Thank you very much for your help in advance.
Hi all,
I need to run a query that would return all users with sa privileges at a server level. Sysusers has the db users for each individual databaase. But I need to list all sa users and the databases they have rights to. Looks like I may need a cursor...not sure. If any of you can help me build this query, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
I have a nightly job that restores a production database to a reporting server. I have some report- related stored procedures
that need to run on the reporting server once the database is restored. However, during the restore, the permissions for the
reporting stored procs get deleted and replaced with the production permissions, which are useless in this case.
Is there a script or system stored procedure I can schedule to run after the nightly restore that will also restore user
permissions? Thanks, Frank.
Hi, Does anyone has a script to get user permissions on all tables?
Thanks

View 1 Replies View RelatedHello Everyone,
I need your input. When, if ever, should programmers be given the 'sa' login. The reason that I ask is because a group of three developers have approached me asking for the 'sa' login so they could write stored procedures and do some database level tasks. I am relatively new to data admin and I am under the opinion that I should probably just alias their login to 'dbo' on the one database that they are developing their app for.
What do you guys think about this.
Thanks in Advance,
Terry
I try to attach a database mdf file to Microsoft SQL server 2014 on Amazon Elastic Computing Cloud, EC2, but fail with the following message, "User 'guest' does not have permission to run DBCC checkprimaryfile. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2571)" The ID I use to REMOTE login has administrator rights and I have chosen to "run as administrator"

View 1 Replies View RelatedHi All
I kind of hit the wall with this message.
Here is what I do:
select * from sys.dm_db_index_physical_stats(24,null,null, null, null)
My server is 64 bit 2005, sp2.
That's the message I get.
I am loging int as Administrator.
Does anybody know what needs to be done?
Dear,
What minimum permission do i need to grant to a Remote Login to create a linked server.
