Hello,

This is my first foray into SQL Server and i am coming from an Oracle background.

We are currently looking to upgrade a COTS package from a third party supplier. I would like to know is there any end of life announcement for SQL Server 2000 ? Is there an End of Support date announced for SQL Server 2000 ?

In Oracle there is a product life cycle announcement screen, I would like to know if there is a similar page in SQL SERVER and where ?

SQLCe Errors When Doing Developing A SQL Mobile Application With Visual Studio 2005 And SQL Server 2005 Tutorial

Feb 26, 2008

I'm attempting to use RDA to synchronize a pocket pc emulator with SQL Server 2005 database by following tutorial http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa454892.aspx, which uses AdvWorksMobile database that comes with SQL Server 2005.

When get to testing of "To test application features " ( step 4 of the merge replication setup lab ), I am receiving SQLCe Exception errors.

ORIGINALLY, I was able to deploy an application and view the local database on the emulator, but once I clicked "InitSinc" button, I received an error.

"Failure to connect to SQL Server with provided connection information. SQL Server does not" exist, access is denied because the SQL user is not a valid user on the SQL Server, or the password is incorrect.
Found this error listed in Server Agent Errors log http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms172357.aspx, but it wasn't very helpful since it doesn't provide any suggestions on fixing the problems.

I am brand new to SQL CE Server , mobile programming and .NET framework in general so please bare with me

All the connections / security settings, etc that were set up were taken from a tutorial so I am not sure what SQLCeServer is complaining about. Reading up on the error on the web didn't help, it all pointed to making sure that the snapshot folder had correct permissions set up. I verified that MACHINENAMEUISR_MACHINENAME guest user had Read rights to the database so I don't think that piece is the problem. Otherwise ,Merge publication has been setup in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio by following the tutorial.

I am trying to run this sync on my home pc so there should be no issues with any user permissions

I have IIS installed

I did NOT have SQL Server Agent running in management studio at this time

I am trying to run this tutorial on an XP machine, which is my regular home PC so I dont think there are any special networking settings to consider

I am able to hit http://localhost/AdvWorksMobile/sqlcesa30.dll from my pc OK, but when I try to hit it from a cradled emulator ( after replacing "localhost" with "MACHINE_NAME" ), Internet Explorer on the emulator gives me a "Cannot Connect With Current Settings" error message. This part wasn't part of tutorial but decided so not sure if I am supposed to be able to hit it from my emulator..so I am not sure if the fact that I can't hit it is related to the problem.
AFTER STARTING SQL SERVER AGENTin Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, I killed the application, and after relaunching it, it hits "The Specified table does not exist [Vendor]" error. This time it doesn't even launch first - that is I dont even get to pressing "InitSinc" button. Debugger is showing that this error is hit on the following line in AdvWorksMobile.AddWorksDataSetTableAdapters

int returnValue = this.Adapter.Fill(dataTable);

I am not sure why the errors changed on me after starting SQL Server Agent.
What can I do to fix this connection problem?

Thank you so much for your help!

Irina

SQL SERVER 2005 Text Mining Tutorial

Jun 28, 2007

Unfortunately, the tutorial is for the Beta version, and therefore there are major differences from the Beta to the current version. The steps can be used as objectives to accomplish.

1). The last page of the tutorial (item 7), Deployment data mining models - Not covered in this tutorial at this moment. What needs to be done in the deployment?

2). The Decision Tree in my project has one node, how would I make the tree show up?

3). My data results are not consistent with the tutorial? Would the software modifications since Beta be the reason?

Advise About Complex T-sql Queries

Apr 6, 2008

Dear All,
I want to practise writing complex T sql queries in SQl Server 2005 which involve several joins, sub-queries in a single query.
This kind of queries are commonly required in Reporting scenarios where a single report may have to be prepared from 2,3 or more tables.
Presently I am able to write queries of moderate complexity.
Therefore I am looking for web tutorials, books which contains some solved examples as well as some Unsolved ones. The Unsolved ones should have the answers given so that one comes to know if he makes a mistake. The web tutorials can be from paid sites as well.
If any of you have a good collection of such queries then pls be kind enough to send it to me.I will give my email id for the purpose. If anybody can help in some other way pls let me know.
Your help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks .

Datasets, Searching, Complex Queries.

My issue is searching. I can search by keyword, and limit it to categories. So, in pseudo sql.. SELECT ... WHERE keyword LIKE '%test%' and category_id in (1,5,20,66); I made a variable for the keyword no problem. But how can I get this dynamic list? Or, is there another way about going this problem?

Simplifying Queries With Complex Sub-expressions?

Dec 11, 2007

I'm dealing with queries that manages a lot of data consolidation and I'm having to repeat large blocks of code to get the desired result.
I'm wondering if that is any way to make it simple.

My queries looks like this:

Code BlockSELECT
(A + B) AS C,
(D + E) AS F,
(G + H) AS I,
(A + B) * (D + E) AS total1,
(D + E) * (G + H) AS total2,
(A + B) * (G + H) AS total3,
(A + B) * (D + E) * (G + H) AS total
FROM table

Can I somehow declare each part of the expression and make it something like this?

Code Block
SELECT
(A + B) AS C,
(D + E) AS F,
(G + H) AS I,
C * F AS total1,
F * I AS total2,
C * I AS total3,
C * F * I AS total
FROM table

Maybe it seems silly, but each sub-expression, on the real life, includes a lot of CASEs and aggragate functions and my codes are getting complex and confuse.

Since I have lots of code pieces that I repeat more than once, I would like to make it simpler.

tks for any help

Everytime I want to view any pages in my site that access the database, I have to close management studio and restart the server for some reason or i get a failed login error message.
Is it NOT possible to work on the database at the same time as viewing pages in the website that access the database?
This freaking error is realy starting to bug me.
I sure hope that there is a work around or something for this.

Real Simple Liscensing Question For Sql Server 2005.

Apr 11, 2006

Hell, I host web pages on a server(s) that I own, located in a datacenter.I am trying to figure out how to properly liscnese sql server 2005.I have called microsoft, and the people i talk to dont seem to understand my situation.  They keep asking me about the number of employess i have, which is totally irrelevant.  Let me give you a basic example.Example 1.My personal web page has a blog on it.  The blog data is stored in a SQL database.  Its a popular blog, thousands of anonymous people reading my blog every month via my webpage.  The only "thing" accessing the SQL databse is an asp.net script i write, which then turns around and presents the data via html over the www.  just like every other blog in the universe. Example 2.I sell artwork over the internet via my web page.   My web page uses a shopping cart system which makes use of an SQL database to keep track of inventory and orders etc.  No one ever tries to connect to my database, they just use the shopping cart on my web page which of course connects to the database. Now according to the MS liscensing documentation it seems that i can buy sql server w/ 5 device CAL's.  Since I only have 1 or 2 webservers accessing the database server, that should be no problem right? So my basic question is this:   is a single Device CAL enough to allow one webserver to connect to one sql server and then show dynamic content to thousands of anonymous users (whoever happens to visit my sites?).Thank you very much for any help you can provide.

Real Problem Installing SQL Server Express 2005

Oct 7, 2006

When I first installed MS SQL Server 2005 Express Editon, I didn't I selected Windows Auth instead of mixed mode, so I uninstalled sql server and then attempted to reinstall. On the earlier installtion I did setup to instances which show in the "Control Panel/admin tool/services". Anyway, I used the unistall through the control panel, but on installing again it told me that I had instances aready running and needed to stop them. Couldn't work out how to do that. So after many different things, including using the MS's removal tool and windows installer clean up, I still failed. Now however I get the following error message:

Setup failed because Service MSSQL$SQLExpress is disabled for the current hardware profile. Services must be set with the current Hardware Profile logon property profile enabled. For more information on how to enable the hardware profile logon property refer to the product documentation.

Can someone help?

Unresolved SQL Server 2005 Issues - Getting Real Fedup With It!

Nov 22, 2007

So for the last week of my life, literally, I have been trying to import excel files, text files, etc through the bcp utility, link server and also trying bulk insert....I am really, really tired of this not working and I am starting to think there is a bug in express. I first thought these issues might have to do with Vista but I have even tried and failed with XP SP2. I am not new to SQL Server, nor am I a new developer - I have over five years experience so I am really pissed about it at this point! I know most professional developers use SQL Server 2005 Enterprise or something other than Express which is why I am probably not getting answers. btw, this is not the first time I have posted about these issues either. I have referenced multiple sources including forums, books on-line and I even resorted to getting a SQL Server 2005 EXPRESS book for dummies! I have enabled remote connections for both named pipes and tcp/ip. I have started the sql browser service. I have given the correct permissions to the file I want to import and to the table I want to import the data to. The file contains the int values 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 --> I have even tried saving this file as a .csv -- thanks a whole bunch sql server 2005 dev team for getting rid of the import/export wizard found in 2000, arrrrrgh!

BULK INSERT TestDB.dbo.tblTestData
FROM 'C:datamyData.txt' WITH (DATAFILETYPE = 'char', FIELDTERMINATOR =',');
GO

Msg 4864, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Bulk load data conversion error (type mismatch or invalid character for the specified codepage) for row 1, column 1 (columnValue).

Can ANYONE give me a real answer on h ow I can get this to actually work?

Complex Sql Server 2005 Query

Nov 8, 2007

Hi,
A sql server table is populated with records every 2 minutes. See below sample table
In the table, the Import_Date is a datetime field.

create table tblData
(
ID int identity(1, 1),
SourceID int,
SourceCode varchar(255)
Security varchar(255),
Bprice decimal(12, 8),
Aprice decimal(12, 8),
ImportDate datetime
)

Here is a populated table.
I have left gaps for better visual checks for you.

I am trying to build a sql query to show which source is offering the max(Bprice) and who is offering the min(Aprice).
In addition if more than one sources are offering the same prices then they should be shown as shown below in the first record i.e. (SourceA, SourceT) --> 3 + 1 = 4
This is what I would like to see:

SecurityMax_BpriceBprice_SizeBprice_SourceCodeMin_ApriceAprice_SizeAprice_SourceCode

SecA101.325SourceT87.114SourceA, SourceT
SecH100.23SourceJ89.432SourceW
SecS50.562SourceX19.33SourceX
SecZ16.983SourceQ87.983SourceQ

What is the sql query to do this please?

This is what I have started with but it is not correct...

select
Security,
max(Bprice) as 'Max_Bprice',
SourceCode as 'Bprice_SourceCode',
min(Aprice) as 'Min_Aprice',
SourceCode as 'Aprice_SourceCode'
from
tblData
group by
Security,
SourceCode

Sql 2000 Mem Setting Versus Real Memory

Nov 3, 2006

I have a client server that has win2000 on it with sql 2000 enterprise edition. The box has 4 gig of memory on it. I noticed today that the sql server was set to use all 4 gig (even though I know sql can't really access that memory because sql can't really utilize the 2-4 gig range). Is there overhead or a downside to leaving it at this, or should I set it to 2 gig

Access 2000 Queries Performing Slower On More Powerful Server

Jun 27, 2001

Hi,

We have recently upgraded our production server from a dual pentium II 400mhz server with 384Mb of RAM to a triple 700mhz Pentium III system with 2gb of RAM . However, since switching over, all of our Access queries on the SQL7 databases are either running extremely slowly or not at all despite the DSN's being set up correctly . Does anyone have any ideas why, and more importantly, how I can resolve this???

Thanks
