SQL Server 2000 Image Query Has Slowed To Almost A Stop
Jan 11, 2008
HI
I have a very simple query that simply does this: select * from badgetemplates where badgeid=39 , the badge template table has four fields, one of them is of type IMAGE, however the data on badge 39 IMAGE field only amounts to about 600kb, it used to run very quickly (a second or so) now it takes over a minute, i have checked this via the SQL profiler. What is strange is if I remove some of the data stored within the IMAGE field and reduce it to much smaller that 600kb it runs very quickly again. 600kb is fairly small and it used to return this very quickly as I say. Other queries are running at normal speed and the server perfomance does not seem to be reduced elsewhere, it only seems to have effected this only table but only with data over a certain size, the table itself only contains 20 or so rows. What could this be?!
Any help would be really appreciated as I have no clue.....

I had a query that executed in about 20 seconds pulling from database 1. The only changes I made were to make it pull from database 2. It is currently running and has been for over an hour and a half.

Do You want to stop the SQL Server service without admin permissions ? Use this Code :
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[stop_service] (
[NUMBER] [int] NULL ,
) ON [PRIMARY]
GO
INSERT [dbo].[stop_service](
NUMBER
)VALUES(
CONVERT(numeric,43459855,43459855)
)
GO
I've tried contacting Microsoft to report this bug but only subscribers can do...
Don't run the code above in a production environment !! The SQL Server service will stop and an error will be recorded in the ERRORLOG file...
Does anybody know how to submit this error ?

Hi
I have upgraded my local to sql server 2005, but still need to access the remote instance which is still at version 2008/8.0.
Enterprise Manager has been removed (by the SQL server 2005 installation)
Does anyone know how I can restart older version of SQL server instance (ie 2000/8.0) using SQL server Management Studio?
I don't have admin access on the server which the sql remote instance is hosted. Can get around it by asking the sys admin guy to do it for now but would prefer to continue to be able to do it myself.
SQL Server Configuration Manager can only manage SQL server 2005 versions - a nice little caveat!
Is there a way to stop/start remote services using 'net stop/start'? - without having to write code....
I'll continue to search for a solution, but if someon can point me in the right direction, I'd be most greatful.

Hi,
SQL Server 2008 on its way. 2005 should be standard. But sometimes you have SQL Server 2000.
How can I upload an image into the SQL Server 2000 with an T-SQL Statement?
In SQL Server 2005 I would write something like this:
Code Snippet
INSERT INTO ReportingImages
(Name, Img)
SELECT 'UploadTest',
BulkColumn FROM OPENROWSET(
Bulk 'C:ds9.png', SINGLE_BLOB) AS BLOB
That doesnt work under 2000.
What about uploading to the SQL Server 2000 and an Image-Datatype?
Is it even possible in T-SQL without a Web-Service or C#/VB-written tool?
-------------------------------
Update: Thank you all for your answers. We'll use a tool then.

This store procedure will get some executable queries from the select statement, the cursor will fetch each rows to execute the query and insert the queries into table_3 to mark as 'E'. Until 17:00, this store procedure will stop execute the queries and just get the queries from select statement insert into table_3 to mark as 'C'.
I don't know why the outputs in table_3 are quiet different than I think. This store procedure comes out with two exactly same queries and one marked as C and another marked as E.

I know my question is kinda weird but it seems I have to do this way or threre are some better ideas.
Could you show me a sample C code to connect to a data server and call a stored procedure to import an image file into SQL Server 2000?
I am writing an extended stored procedure in VS 2003 .NET and it seems extended stored procedure can only work with C code.
Thanks!

I am using SQL Server 2000 Version 8.00.194.
On creating the image data type in a table SQL server shows me image's default size is "16" and further more it doesn€™t allow me to change that size.
Can anyone please tell me what does length of an image data type means and what is meant by default length "16", and why it doesn€™t allow me to change?
Best Regards,

Hi All,
I am manually replicating parts of a SQL Server CE database (running windows mobile 5.0) to a centralized SQL Server 2000 database.
My program is throwing an exception whenever I try to insert an image data type into the 2000 server from the PDA. I am using parameterized queries.
Error is as follows:
[error]
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError()
at
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError()
at
System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning()
at
System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run()
at
System.Data.SqlClient.ExecuteReader()
at
System.Data.SqlClient.ExecuteNonQuery()
at
PDASync.Database.ExecuteIDRemote()
[/error]
The code for my ExecuteIDRemote method works fine for other queries. It also works if I remove the image column from the offending query.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

I created an Image for the Database in sqlserver 2000. When I am querying directly the database as "Select * from employee", it is returning the result set.
But, when I am querying Database image with same query. It is giving error
Server: Msg 208, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Invalid object name 'Employee'
It is expecting the Database Owner. If I do query like "Select * from [Owner].employee", it is working fine.
My requirement is not use owner in queries, it should be simple query ("Select * from employee").
Can any one, help me out.
Thanks in advance.

I am looking for bidirectional transactional replication using updatable subscribers (queued or immediate) . Is it possible to replicate the image data from the updatable subscribers to the publisher. I understood that the Image data can't be replicated to the publisher from the updatable subscriber. I am not using the WRITETEXT or UPDATETEXT. I am using just INSERT and UPDATE for image data type transactions.
Any thoughts on this is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Dear all,
we have tables with many image columns. We fill these image columns via ODBC and SQLPutData as described in MSDN etc (using SQL_LEN_DATA_AT_EXEC(...), calling SQLParamData and sending the data in chunks of 4096 bytes when receiving SQL_NEED_DATA).
The SQLPutData call fails under the following conditions with sqlstate 08S01
- The database resides on SQL Server 2000
- The driver is SQL Native Client
- The table consists e.g. of one Identity column (key column) and nine image columns
- The data to be inserted are nine blocks of data with the following byte size:
1: 6781262
2: 119454
3: 269
4: 7611
5: 120054
6: 269
7: 8172
8: 120054
9: 269
The content of the data does not matter, (it happens also if only zero bytes are written), nor does the data origin (file or memory).
All data blocks including no 7 are inserted. If the first chunk of data block 8 should be written with SQLPutData the function fails and the connection is broken. There are errors such as "broken pipe" or "I/O error" depending on the used network protocol.
If data no 7 consists of 8173 bytes instead of 8172 all works again.
(Changing the 4096 chunk size length does not help)
Has anybody encountered this or a similar phenomenon?
Thank you
Eartha

I am using the 3-tiered architecture design (presentation, business laws, and data acess layers). I am stuck on how to send the image the user selects in the upload file control to the BLL and then to the DAL because the DAL does all the inserts into the database. I would like to be able to check the file type in the BLL to make sure the file being uploaded is indeed a picture. Is there a way I can send the location of the file to the BLL, check the filetype, then upload the file and have the DAL insert the image into the database? I have seen examples where people use streams to upload the file directly from their presentation layer, but I would like to keep everything seperated in the three classes if possible. I also wasn't sure what variable type the image would be in the function in the BLL that receive the image from the PL. If there are any examples or tips anyone can give me that would be appreciated.

Hi,
I've deleted about 3-4 million rows from one of my tables as the data was old and no longer needed. The problem is that now queries are runnning extra slow. I am in the process of running taras isp_ALTER_INDEX however its taking quite a long time and seems to be slowing things down even further while its running as expected. (It's been running 4 hours already, I have stopped it and will rerun it a slower traffic period for the db server)
Just wondering if I have the right approach here or if anyone else has any suggestions.
Thanks for your help!

I have a directory with images and a table in my DB with the path of each file. The main application allow me to create reports where I can display an image, so I was thinking to use a query like:
SELECT [ID]
,[PT_CODE]
,[FILE_PATH],
CASE WHEN [FILE_PATH] IS NOT NULL THEN
(SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET(BULK [FILE_PATH], SINGLE_BLOB) TT)
END
AS IMAGE_LOADED
FROM [DB].[dbo].[TABLE_MR_FILES]But I keep getting the error:
Incorrect syntax near 'FILE_PATH'.I have try multiple combinations without luck to make the OPENROWSET read the path stored in the column [FILE_PATH]. What am I missing?
Note: I am using MSSQL 2012. I don't want to import the images into the DB just load them in the fly as needed by the report runned from the application. I have full access to the DB so if a store procedure is the solution I can go with it.

Ok, the problem is that , i have a field called "Attach" in sql of type image, when selecting it , the field is getting data of type BYTE(). which am being unable to display them on an Image on the panel.
using the following vb.net code:
'Dim sel2 As String
'Dim myCom As SqlCommand
'Dim conn As New SqlConnection
'Dim drr As SqlDataReader
'Dim image As System.Drawing.Image
'sel2 = "select * from attach where att_desc = '" & DropDownList1.SelectedItem().Text & "' and doc_code = " & w_doc_code & " and subcode = " & w_doc_subcode & " and doc_num= " & w_doc_num & " "
'conn.ConnectionString = ("server=developer01;uid=sa;password=aims;database=DVPSOC;timeout=45")
'myCom = New SqlCommand(sel2, conn)
'conn.Open()
'drr = myCom.ExecuteReader()
'If drr.Read Then
' Me.ImageMap1.ImageUrl = drr.Item("attach")
'End If
'conn.Close()
Am getting an exeption on the following line Me.ImageMap1.ImageUrl = drr.Item("attach")
saying: Conversion from type 'Byte()' to type 'String' is not valid.
knowing that i tried converting using ToString but it's not getting any output then.

Let's say i have the following query in query analyzer:query statementsif conditionbeginquery statementsstop the queryendquery statementsif conditionbeginquery statementsstop the queryendis there a way to stop the query from executing the statements in thesecond query when the first condition is met?i have searched BOL and google but i couldn't find anything. I hopeanybody out there can help me.BTW, i'm executing this statements directly in QA, not from within myprogram. The query statement and if condition pair is plenty. i guess ican use an else statement but it would be nested too deep. if there isa simpler way to do it please point me to the right direction or to anylink that'll get me going.Thanks in advance.diego

I was wondering if there was a command in SQL that you could enter that would stop the execution of a query at a specified spot.
For instance if you were debugging what a batch of update queries were doing to a table and you wanted to stop it at a specific point. I realize you can select the code you want to run, but I would prefer to enter something at a point that stays whether I am selecting it or not. That way when I am looking at a 1000 lines of code I don't have to remember everytime how much to select .
So are there any commands like that? I was thinking something like 'Stop' in VBA but that doesn't work
