SQL Server 2000 SQL Agent Error [393] Waiting For SQL Server To Recover Databases
Jan 30, 2007
While I was out of the office the Lan Team moved one of my SQL Server
2000 servers to a new network domain. Since then the maintenance job
has not ran.
The error log for the SQL Agents has the message listed in the subject
line. I have not found any useful articles on the MS SQL Server
site. Anyone know what might be wrong and how to fix it.

We have a two node cluster running W2K and SQL2000. The agent starts, but we cannot access any of the jobs. It gives us the 14258 Agent is starting, try again later... error message. We know that this is not the case, we have waited several hours without it "starting". The SQL Agent log indicates that the agent is waiting on SQL Server to recover databases, but all of our databases are up. It is almost as if during startup a flag did not get set to indicate that a database was recovered.
Has anyone run across this before? If so, did you ever figure out how to fix it?

SQL agent is using NT login with all permission & agent and sqlserver using the same NT username . SA password has not been changed for more than one year.
The SQL Server agent log is showing "waiting to recover database". What could be the reason ?

Is anyone have already encountered such a problem :
When a table is locked by several locks (key, pag), either a SELECT request which does not need to lock any row cannot succeed.
In SQL Server Enterprise Manager, I see that my request is waiting for a lock "LCK_M_S" !!!
How I can avoid this kind of situation which seems to me completely abnormal.
I have never been faced with this kind of problem in Oracle.
Thanks for anyone who will help me to resolve this "bug".

Hi,
My database corrupted because when I was running an update query, there is a power failure. After the computer booted, I cannot open the database anymore, it just not responding. Then I stop the sql server service, and tried to rename the .mdf and .ldf. After that it worked normally, but I need the data from the corrupted mdf file, I tried to attach the database but it just hanged. I even tried to attach without the .ldf file but it didn't work either, so I concluded that the problem is with the mdf file.
Is there any way to recover my data ??
Thanks in advance
Regards,
Edwin

When I proposed start to use SQL Server 2005 for new VS 2005 web sites, one of my co-workers responded that
we will update the old SQL Server 2000 databases to SQL Server 2005 when we are ready to use 2005 SQL Server.
Questions:
1. Any expected problems to upgrade old 2000 databases to new 2005 SQL Server?
2. I have installed both 2005/Management Studio Express and 2000/Enterprise Manager in my PC. Any expected
problems when running both 2000 and 2005 SQL Server at the same database server?
3. What is the best configuration for running SQL Server 2005 when we have old 2000 databases? Upgade or not upgrade?
TIA,
Jeffrey

Environment: Sql Server 2000 Transaction Rep Distributor. Pub, Sub, and Distributor on separate machines.
Distributor Agent Gets: "Timeout expired (Source: ODBC SQL Server Driver (ODBC); Error number: S1T00)" and the Session Details of the the Distribution Agent says "The process is running and is waiting for a response from one of the backend connections." Of course, in true MS fashion, the message does not specify which connection it is waiting on. It could be waiting on the Publisher or it could be waiting on the Subscriber. Does anyone know how to tell? It would be quite useful to know which "backend" is indicated!
We get this event like clock-work at exactly the same times early every morning as well as at other random times during the day. I can not see any reason for it. Do you have any useful advice?
Thanks a lot!
Michael

Hello Sir,
Now I'm choosing Trasactional publication as my publication type. I now can successfully replicate the data from publisher to subscriber without any error.
But now my question is what is the usage of snapshot agent? When I go to Replication Monitor > Agents > Snapshot Agents > Start Agent but failed.
I need to check with you whether the way I start the snapshot agent was not correct? What is the effect if I drop snapshot agent during the replication and DBUpdate are running?
Please kindly help me .
Thank You.

Hello,
I've got a couple of jobs who have a odbc connection to a AS400 machine. But when these jobs run they won't stop anymore. I've got to stop these jobs manually so that the next day the jobs can start again as scheduled. The jobs did run all the packages succesfully. Does somebody know how this is possible? It did work fine but since a couple of weeks they just won't stop anymore. I hope you can help me! :S

Hi Guys,
Ive accidently gone and deleted a snapshot agent off a working publication (tables distribution.dbo.mssnapshot_agents, msdb.dbo.sysjobs etc).
Is there a workaround to create a new snapshot agent for the publication without having to break or recreate the publication?
I have tried adding a snapshot and only to fail, can anyone help? thanks a million
---*** Tried adding a snapshot agent ***---
use publishing_database
go
-- Add snapshot job
exec sp_addpublication_snapshot @publication = N'publication_name',
@frequency_type = 4,
@frequency_interval = 1,
@frequency_relative_interval = 1,
@frequency_recurrence_factor = 0,
@frequency_subday = 8,
@frequency_subday_interval = 1,
@active_start_date = 20040101,
@active_end_date = 20040101,
@active_start_time_of_day = 0,
@active_end_time_of_day = 235959
GO
-- RESULT:
Server: Msg 14101, Level 11, State 1, Procedure sp_MSaddpub_snapshot, Line 73
The publication 'publication_name' already has a Snapshot Agent defined.

When I run sp_delete_job to delete the whole job inside,
will the job steps, job schedules and job servers of that job will be deleted automatically also?
so, do i need to run sp_delete_job only?
or need sp_delete_jobstep, sp_delete_jobschedule and sp_delete_jobserver also?

Hi,
I have two servers, one production server and one backup server which have transactional replication with a pull subscription.
When I configure replication, it works fine during our test weekends testing production load. After tests, replication looks fine for a random number of days. Then, all of a sudden, an error message is displayed on one of the agents: "The agent is suspect, no response within 10 minutes." This has happened a number o times. If I remove replication and configures it again, it always works. Sometimes it works by just updating one of the tables and the error message disappears. The last time (today) that did not work. Updating the database did not replicate and the error message remained.
Has anyone experienced this same problem and has a god solution. One thing that is common is that the error message appears after long times of inactivity on the servers, or perhaps after a restart but that I am not sure about.
Question 1: How can I prevent this error message?
Question 2: Are there any special things to think about when I need to restart the servers and replication is configured, e.g. after installing updates from Windows Update.
I would be very grateful for any answers regarding this.
Best,
/M

I'm wondering if there is any way for me to execute any type of command (delete, insert, create, alter, etc) on management studio without having to wait the server answer.
On Oracle, I use DBMS_JOB. On SQL Server, do I have to create a SQL SERVER Agent Job? What if I don't have permission to create that kind of jobs?

Hi,
I've got a question regarding attaching/restoring of DBs and wonder if anyone could help me out.
Does SQL Server 2000 provide a functionality to attach/restore DB automatically? ie, some kind of polling service to attach/restore DB that were detached previously?
Thanks
Danny.

Can anyone figure out what is causing the error below. It seems like a permission error certainly. Here is some information, first I am not a DBA so bear with me. I am using the client version of SMO and SS BI. I have a package that will execute in BI manually but will not execute from the scheduled job. I have permission to remote to the server and I have tried to run the job from the server and still get this error. If anyone understands the error; please provide some info.

I am getting below error while executing any SQL query on database server.
Time-out occurred while waiting for buffer latch type 2 for page (20:17937), database ID 13.
There is currently some space issue on the server, so by any chance this space issue is causing this error?

Hi,
I have two databases lets say DB1 and DB2.
Schemas for both databases is same.
In both database schemas there are tables which has identity columns as primary key.
Now i want to merge these two databases in a single database say DB3.
It may also possible that some master records in both databases are common so they should not repeat in DB3
Is there any way so that i can do it quickly and as soon as possible.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
We have replication setup on a sql server 2000. We encountered issue that the distribution agent goes down (distrib.exe stop running) in the event of network connection broken. We would like to know:
is this the expected result that the distribution agent will go down in the event of communication failure between the distribution server and subscriber server?
if not, is there a way to programmatically control and restart the agent?
Is there any sp in SQL server which can monitor the replication communication error message?
is there any sp in SQL server which can be run to restart the agent?
For the best practice, what do you think we can do to achieve an €˜event-driven€™ kind of mechanism so when an communication breaks, the agent can be restarted by the triggered event (or at least a simple way to automatically restart)?
Thanks
Bill
