Hy ,
How can i transfer a database from Access to Sql Server 2000?
Exactly : i want to transfer a .mdb into .mdf, and i want to keep the structure of .mdb, a structure which have tables, queries, macros, modules... When i start the transfer with Data Transformation Services ( DTS- Import Data ) , i can see that DTS shows me only tables and queries. At the end of transfer, in my .mdf database, on server, i have only tables, without queries, macros, modules.
My question is how can i transfer the queries and macros ( exactly how are in .mdb ) to .mdf database?
Thanks in advance for any advice..
Emanuel.

Does anyone know of a reported bug in the security scripting option of the database/object transfer GUI utility in 6.5? I created a mirror database on the same server and transfered all object including logins and permissions. There was a warning the the passwords were set to null on the destination database, but they were also set to null on the source database. Any experience with this?

We have experienced an issue with back backup / restore of a database originating from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2003.
We have the following setup:
SQL Server 2000
- DatabaseA
- asdfUser (SQL User)
- asdfUser is (dbowner) of DatabaseA
- DatabaseB
- asdfUser (SQL User)
- asdfUser is (dbowner) of DatabaseB
SQL Server 2005 Standard
-asdfUser is NOT Setup as a user yet.
-We restore DatabaseA and DatabaseB to the SQL Server 2005 Standard. The databases are restored with the security permissions of asdfUser being the DB Owner of DatabaseA and DatabaseB.
-We create a new SQL user named asdfUser on the SQL Server 2005 box. We then try to add the UserMapping of DBOWNER for the DatabaseA and DatabaseB. We receive an error message stating that the asdfUser already have permissions to the databases. We proceed with the user creation without those permissions.
-We proceed to the login properties of the asdfuser and view their UserMappings. The asdfUser does not have access to DatabaseA or DatabaseB. We then add the UserMapping of DBOWNER to both DatabaseA and DatabaseB. We Try to select OK and we receive an error message that states that the user already has those permissions.
-When we query the UserID's of the asdfUser that is in the database and the UserID of the asdfUser that is created, they are two different values.
I assume this is a bug... any word on a fix?

Hi guys,
I am new to SQL Server 2000 and like to enquire the following.
Scenario:
this current website is hosted by A but now taken over by B.
B was given SQL server username and password and was instructed to download the database directly from A based on the username n pw given.
So my qns is:
Is it possible to initiate data transfer from one server situated at locationA to another server at locationB that doesnt belong to the same domain? If can, by which ways? Using the DTS method? Or there are some settings to be configure at ODBC in order to initiate the data transfer?
Any experts out there? ;)

Hi,
I would like to know if there will every be a clean way to transfer a database from a remote server to a local server (and back again). I've tried several different approaches, but they all currently have bugs/problems.
I've looked into database publishing wizard - but this creates a huge script that takes 10x longer to run than the old DTS transfer.
I've tried copying data, and objects separate, but this requires multiple steps, using DTS this was all done in one step.
I've tried using SSIS Transfer SQL Objects, but the defaults are not created, using DTS, the ENTIRE database was transfered, which is what I want.
I've tried using SSIS Transfer Database, but even when I select "Online" mode, I get an error asking me to select at least one source file, but there is nothing to select (no files appear in the pop up window).
I've tried copy database or backup database, but I do not have suffient permission on the remote server for these.
So many different ways to do it, but all fail!
PLEASE - make a simple way to transfer a database from a remote host and back again. I want to be able to select a database source and destination and have the database copied. PLEASE - at least restore the old way until other options are working first.

We are currently running sql 2000 and are moving our database onto sql 2005 running on a different box.
We have managed to move the entire database, with users however the users permissions on specific tables/views/stored procedures have not been transferred, does anyone know a way of transferring user permissions rather then doing them all by hand?
The system is a large (over 500 table/views/stored procedures) and a very active one and therefore downtime is not optional.
any suggestions would be appreciated

Hi everyone, I am trying to upgrade a 2000 DB to 2005 with SSIS Database Transfer.
I finally got it to work with an online transfer but the destination database has no primary keys, indexes or identity columns from the source DB.
What am I missing?
What other ways are there to upgrade a SS2000 DB to 2005?
Thank you.

I have what may be an elementary question; any help that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Assumptions:
1.) Running SQL Server 2000 on Windows 2000
2.) Using only Windows Authentication
3.) Have 2 databases
4.) I have a group of users that I need different
Access to each database.
a.) This group needs only "select" privileges to
the tables and views in "database 1"
b.) This same group needs DBA privileges
(Add, Remove, and modify Tables, Views, etc.)
to "database 2"
What would be the best, most efficient way to accomplish this? These users are currently a members of a Windows group which has only "select" privileges to the tables and views in "database 1".

Perhaps someone can answer this question. I was given a document from a Microsoft consultant and setting up a secure SQL Server 2000 server for my company. This document is being used to setup standards for our enterprise implementation of SQL Servers.
In the document, it has a procedure of disabling the MSDTC service stating that, "the DTC can be used by COM+ applications to manage transactions across multiple database servers." But it really doesn't suffieniently state why this is a good security practice. Can anyone out there tell me why this is a good idea.
Background: We use the Standard Edition, and currently have no distributed servers out there, nor do we have replication. A side note, just recently we have been asked to install a replicated server for fail-over capability. Will disabling the DTC service hinder us?

Hi,
I am new to the database concepts, maybe my questions are very basic.
I transfered data from one sql server to another thru object/database transfer. The transfer was successful, ie.,
all the data was present in the new server too. I am using an application with ASP as front end and SQL server 6.5 as back end.
So i am able to all new records, delete them, update them thru my ASP programs. But, i am not able to update the records
which where transfered from the old server. I hope some one of can help me, as i said earlier i am new to databases,
so give me a detailed solution.
Thanks,

We have a process here where a ~45Gb is copied from DB1 to DB2 (both on the same server) using the Export Data wizard and choosing the "Transfer objects and data between SQL Server 7.0 databases" - All the defaults are left as is.
Under 6.5 this method took around 24 - 26 hours, now with SQL 7.0 (SP3) it takes about 16 hours. That's great execpt towards the end of the copy it seems to be hogging most of the server resources - although the processors aren't mazed out.
Users of the other databases are having queries take 5+ mins when they normally come back in < 5 seconds. As soon as the copy finishes there query time return to 'normal'.
Anyone any ideas on where to start looking or how to analyse this problem.
Thanks in advance.

In SSMS, I connect Object Explorer to a partially contained database using a contained user login with password. This user has a database role of dbdatareader. When I try to expand the Tables in the database, I get the error:Â
The SELECT permission was denied on the object 'extended_properties', database 'mssqlsystemresource', schema 'sys'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 229)
Is there a way to set permissions for the contained user so that this could be done?

Both the servers were in the same domain whose active directory was also in another server in the same virtual lab environment. My question can we have the primary sql server in one domain and the secondary sql server to which the logs are shipped in another domain by including a router also between the 2 networks for connectivity?
