SQL Server 2000 Installation Hang
Sep 30, 2004
Hi,
I am using Windows 2003 Standard Server (stand alone) and trying to install SQL Server 2000 Enterprise edition. The installation stops whenever I have entered the sa password (the dialog box disappeared and then nothing happed, but the "setupsql" process (something like this) is still there).
The same happened when I install SQL Server 2000 in Windows 2000 Server. For Win2K, I can first install SQL Server 7.0 and then upgrade to 2000 (same SQL Server 2000 installation CD!). However, Windows 2003 doesn't support SQL Server 7.0. So I can't use this method...
Any idea?
Thanks.
Michael
*I have turned off Norton already.

I just installed SQL Server 2000 Developers edition on my computer. After installation I tried to create a simple table which I was unable to do. When I attempted to create the table, I went into SQL Server Enterprise Manager and under Console Root I extended / Microsoft SQL Servers / SQL Server Group / (local) Windows NT when it gave me the following 2 message box errors :
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An error 1069-(The service did not start due to login failure)occured while preforming this server operation on the MSSQL service.
---and---
A connection could not be established to (local).
Reason: SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
ConnectionOpen(Connect()).
Please verify SQL Server is running and check your SQL Servier registion properties(by right-
clicking on the (local) node) and try again.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have Windows XP Professional and currently run IIS. I have tried re-registering without success and at this point I don't know what I need to do in order to correct these errors and create a simple table.

Hi, I'm learning ASP.net and I just bought Visual Studio .net professional. I tried to install MS SQL server 2000 on my two computers. One OS is windows server 2003 standard edition and another is Win XP professional. Both of them appeared SQL Server Upgrade Wizard "from server 6.5 upgrade to server 2000". I don't think I have server 6.5 installed and there is no server 6.5 application interface to run the server. What's the problem? I cannot run the Wizard successfully. Can I just ignore it?Thank you,William

Hello Guru's, I need your help!
I installed sql server 2000 sp2 standard edition on Windows 2003, when
installing, it said "This version is not supported on this os", but I was told
to continue installing the software and that I could install the latest
security patches to bring it up to date. Will that work? Do I need to do
anything else? SQL Server 2000 is up and running on the box. When running
the statement " select @@version" it informed me that I was at 8.00.194
patch level. How can I tell if SQL Server 2000 is 32 or 64 bit? I was
trying to download the lasted patch and it asked for that info. Thanks.--

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me here. To be honest, this is my first time i have encountered SQL Server 2000 SP4. I need some guidance as to how to install and set up the SQL Server 2000 SP4. I have done it with SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and it's (I think) a lot easier to install and get it going.
My computer runs on windows XP Pro (windows 32bit). I got confused when i got to the following microsoft webpage - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8e2dfc8d-c20e-4446-99a9-b7f0213f8bc5&DisplayLang=en. I downloaded SQL2000-KB884525-SP4-x86-ENU.EXE. And when running the setup.bat, the message came up saying "SQL Server 2000 is not installed on this machine. setup will now exit". What do i need to have the SQL Server 2000 installed on my machine?
Thank you in advance

I have SQL Server 2000 installed on my laptop and am trying to install an instance of MSDE. I keep getting the error message: "The installation of SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine has failed. Please see the Getting Started manual for further instructions."
I have done this installation before on other machines. Something must be corrupt on my machine (?). The error message is not very enlightening. Any ideas?

Hi Guys,
I have had SQL Server Express and Sql Server Management Studio Express installed on my machine for some time and recently tried to install a trial of SQL Server 2005 as well. (Yes, I'm migrating from Visual Studio Express to Visual Studio Professional, just as in tended!)
Everything went fine except that nothing seemed to be installed. I searched in all the obvious places - both on the Start/Programs menu and on the hard-drive: nothing.
A check under Add/Remove Programs showed that Sql Server 2005 Express was installed, but called SQL Server 2005.
So after a number of retries in which the install program kept saying that there was nothing to install, I selected every option under Advanced in the intall process. This resulted in stuff being installed and I now have SQL Server 2005 running on my machine, but no SQL Server Manager icon.
My questions are:
Where can I find the SQL Server Manager executeable?
Has anyone installed SQL Server Express, SQL Server Mangement Studio Express, SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server Management Studio on a single machine successfully? If so, what order did you install them in? (I'm planning on uninstalling everything SXQL Server related and starting again.)
Thanks very much for your help.
Regards
Gary

Hi
I am new to this sql server thing. And for last couple of days i m trying to figure out whether we can install sql server 2000 ent edition in a server after installing or upgrading sql server 2005 from (sql server 2000) . As sql server 2005 is know to exist side by side with earlier sql server versions .
And coming to the problem which i m facing is , I have installed sql server 2005 ent in windows 2000 server in which sql server 2000 is residing.Later when i observerd i realised that actually i have upgraded 2000 to sql 2005 server (which i hav done after consulting many people). As a result few of the client systems which were running sql server personal edition were unable to access their data from the database. For temporary relief i have installed sql server 2005 express edition plus management studio in the client systems . The doubts which i am having are
1) what happens if i uninstall sql server 2005
2) Is it possible to install sql server 2000 ent edition now to work along with sql server 2005
thanks in advance .....waiting for your quick replies ..any idea's

Guys.
Quite a large log attached.
I had 5 servers hang all on the same day, all within about 5 mins of each other scattered across 4 corners of the UK. Our support team tell me that it has something to do with SQL Server, but cannot say what.
I can see looking at the error log of one of the servers, that there are about4 entries everyday since startup, and this continues right up until the night before the freeze.
At 22:00 the night before the freeze, a load of entries are written (Iv'e cut down the list to make it easier to read). then at around 4am the servers all froze.
Could someone take a sneaky peak at these logs and tell me in your own opinion what caused this to happen.
The first section, is what I believe to be normal

Hi,
i tried to install SQL Server 2000 Developer and MSDE the whole day on my Windows XP SP2.
MDAC is the latest, that come with WinXP SP2 (2.81). The installation fails at the end after 100% complete.
It says:
Translated: "the setup programm starts the server and installs the configuration you chose..."
("das setup-programm startet den server und installiert die von ihnen gewählte konfiguration...")
then it takes some time and the failure appears, saying:
"the setup programm could not configure the server. you can find more
information in the server-failure-log files and in
"C:windowssqlstp.log."
sqlstp.log last couple of lines:
22:42:10 C:WINDOWSTEMPSqlSetupBinscm.exe -Silent 1 -Action 4 -Service MSSQLSERVER
22:42:10 Process Exit Code: (0)
22:42:10 StatsGenerate returned: 2
22:42:10 StatsGenerate (0x80000000,0x1,0xf000000,0x200,1031,303,0x0,0x1,0,0,0
22:42:10 StatsGenerate -1,toebens)
22:42:10 Installation Failed.
I already read several knowledge base articles on this... removed keys in the registry...and so on...nothing worked :(
this **** makes me angry. please help me.
thanks

I have a Windows 2003 Enterprise x64 edition cluster setup and functioning normally. Now, I am trying to get SQL Server 2000 installed as a failover cluster but am having some difficulty. When installing, I get the message '[sqsrvres] ODBC sqldriverconnect failed' in the event log. The message happens when the installer is trying to bring the SQL Server Service resource online.
I am able to ping the name of the instance successfully. I am able to manually start the 'MSSQL$InstanceName' service. I have turned off the firewall on both machines, but this did not help. I have the DTC Service setup as a resource in the same cluster group.
I also read http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;815431 which seemed promising, but did not reolve the problem.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Andy

Hi guys, I am having a serious problem on my SQL server. Assuming there's a web server (Cold Fusion in IIS) connects to my SQL server (SQL server 2005 and million records in it which consider quite big for the db size), it works fine and run smoothly during weekday. However, there will be lots of users accessing the db through my web application (located at my web server) until my web application get hang. Not only that, even I want to access my SQL server from my place using management studio also fail.
I try remote desktop into the SQL server, view the 'Task Manager', it shows 1-2% CPU usage that it takes; and i'm able to open the SQL server using management studio. Therefore, I try to restart my web service( IIS ) , and it still unable to open my web application. However, once I restart the SQL service, my web application is available. This issue happens to me every weekend with several times. It's no point for me to restart the SQL service again and again.
1) What's the reason that I need to restart the SQL service then only I can open the web application? Is it the SQL server
hang or the connection problem?
2) Is it lots of record in the database causing the server gets hang since lots of user accessing the database?
3) Where can I check out the exactly problem on it ? IIS log or SQL log?
Hope can get any assistance from here and get a solution/suggestion from you guys as soon as possible.
Best Regards,
Hans

i was trying to install sql server 2000 enterprise edition on win 2003 with SP1. i got stuck with this error sayinbg;"the driver software you are installing has not been properly signed with Autheticode(TM) technology. therefore windows cannot tell if the software has been modified since it was published. the publisher's identity cannot be verified because of a problem,
The installed INF file does not contain digital signature infromation"
Do you still want to install this driver software?
No matter what i click, either yes or no, it takes me nowhere. i googled it everywhere still could not find a solution. please let me know if you guys got any idea.

Greetings everybody,
lately we are experiencing some very strange behaviour on the part of our
SQL-Server.
We are using SQL-Server as a combined Database for one COM+ application and one J2EE-Application. All of this is installed on the same machine (dual-CPU, 2 GB RAM).
This setup has been up and running for almost a year now.
In the last two weeks there have been incidences where the performance of SQL-Server is decreasing steadily until it finally hangs completely (just SQL-Server, not the machine itself).
This happens 2-3 times a week, curiously always between 9 and 10 a.m.!
After stopping and restarting the actual SQL-Server "Service", everything is back to normal (until the next morning or the morning after that).
There are a few automated batches that access the database via the COM+ Server. These run at night and are completed before work begins at ca. 7 a.m.
Profiler-Logs show a few "Escalate Locks", but those alone cannot account for this strange behaviour.
Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.
