MS SQL Server 2000, And ASP.NET 2.0 Membership Controls (login)

Dec 14, 2007

when my ASP.NET 2.0 web site working against MS SQL Server 2000,I Usually have a connection string to the DB, I create a connection, and start working on the data.
While reading about the MemberShip provider of ASP.NET 2.0 (Login control, Forgot password, etc.),I read that it's possible to save the MDF file of the membership controls, within the APP_DATA folder.
But how can it be ? the MDF file must be at the server folder,How can I access this MDF file ? with which connection string ?How does MS SQL Server 2000 syncronize against this MDF file within my APP_DATA folder ?
And by the way, if my hosting company allow me to use 1 db schema of the MS SQL Server 2000 server,Does this method (saving the MDF file within thr APP_DATA folder) allow me to use multiple schemas ?
Thanks.

How To Create BuiltinAdministrator Login In SQL Server 2000?

Jan 22, 2008

Hi,

I am using SQL Server 2000. But i am not able to see the BuiltinAdministrator account in the logins list in Enterprise Manager but by default the owner of the system gets access to all databases and objects in the system. I would like to restrict that by restricting the access of BuiltInAdministrator account but it is not visible. Is there any option to be enabled to make that visible?

Could you please help me in this issue..

Thanks.

SQL Server 2000 Server: Msg 18456, Level 14, State 1, Line 1 Login Failed For User 'sa'.

Feb 28, 2007

As an 'SA' I thought that you have permission to do anything on the server. Running an update command from Query Analyzer is throwing this error:

SQL Server 2000 SP3

Server: Msg 18456, Level 14, State 1, Line 1
Login failed for user 'sa'.

The table is in the dbo schema.

Has anyone seen this error before?

Membership, Roles And Login Controls With Sql Server 2000

Jul 4, 2007

hello, I have developed a website using asp.net 2.0 and sql server 2005 express edition. I have used the built-in membership, roles and login controls in my website. now i need to change the database server. i have to use sql server 2000 instead. as asp.net 2.0 uses the ASPNETDB.mdf for member, roles and login controls, so how can i do it? i can easily export the database from 2005 to 2000 but how my application controls will know where to look at for those data. I am clueless. please help me. thanks in advance.

Aspclassic On IIS7 SQL 2005. ODBC SQL Server Driver[SQL Server]Cannot Open Database Requested By The Login. The Login Failed

Apr 16, 2008

Hi all,

Have just tried my sql server 2005 connected asp classic website on II7 for the first time and have gotten some errors.
First off I have unchecked show friendly errors in IE and have enabled ASP to send error messages to the browser.

My error I get is when I execute a basic .asp page:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open database "mydatabasename" requested by the login. The login failed.
/index.asp, line 10 which is dbConnect.Open cstring

from this peice of code:

sub dbOpen()
set dbConnect = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
cstring = "DSN=mysqldsn; Trusted Connection=yes"
dbConnect.Open cstring
end sub

I have gone into ODBC and have setup both a user dsn and file dsn that equals mysqldsn and points to my database (I know you only need to set up one DSN but I'm not sure which)

I also notice under mywebsite home panel there is a connection string option. Do I do anything with that?

Definatley a lot more to it than XP's II6!

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

SQL Server 2014 :: Can Get User Windows Login When Using Server Login Authentication

Apr 26, 2015

Oracle and Teradata are able to capture the windows/client login that connects to their database with a functionnal ID.I've searched around and I don't think MS SQL can do this...I administer SQL 2014 server and also SAS Enterprise guide product. I've created sql server logins for several teams so everyone shares the same sql server login which is used to bind the SAS library to my SQL server database.

However, when looking at activity monitor, I can't drill down to which user is executing a particular query. I only see the SQL login which is share amongs 200 other folks. On the other hand, when they connect from SAS to Oracle or Teradata, I can see the shared login + additionally their windows NT login used to connect to SAS which is awesome....they can't fool me by using a shared/funcionnal ID....i still see who's using that ID...

SQL Server 2008 :: Login Failed For Login (DomainNameUserName) Due To Trigger Execution

Sep 23, 2015

All the logins with sysadmin role are locked out in one of the SQL server. Also in that instance Logon trigger is implemented which allows only certain users with Windows Authentication to logon.

This server is converted into single user mode by using command prompt. Now we are attempting to connect to SQLServer using command sqlcmd -S FTCPU3239 (since we do not have any other login) and create a new login with sysadmin role but are refused due to logon trigger. it says Login failed for login 'DomainNameUserName' due to trigger execution.

SQL Security :: Users Are Able To Login To Server Without Any Login Names Or Being Part Of A Group

Jun 5, 2015

I have a server that has 20 databases . I have tested with few users with different level of access and all of them were able to connect to the server and also see, select, update , delete from a particular database which is kind of weird because they do not have a user login associated or mapped to that database. I checked and no user is part of any group in AD that would give them permission to connect . I need a query that would find the permission path of a user. I already queried with xp_logininfo but I am not getting any thing.

Creating Login In Sql 7 On Windows 2000

Sep 26, 2002

Hi

My platform is mainly windows nt4 server with two windows 2000 member servers. We recently acquired a higher spec machine to replace the old sql 7 server that is on windows NT4 box. The new server is a windows 2000 box and I have installed sql 7 on it.

The problem is when I try to create a new login it does not give me the option to select my domain. When I select new login and go for windows nt4 authentication the drop arrow for Domain only has the server name and not the domain name. If I manually input the domain name it rejects it.

I do not have Active Directory or a local dns server running on my network as we have no intention of migrating to Win2000 until next year. Our internet service provider handles our dns issues.

Is it not possible to install sql7 on win2k box.

Thanks
Eve

Restoring Backup From SQL 2000 To SQL 2005 But Login Name Is Missing

Mar 29, 2007

Hi all,I'm having a problem restoring backup from 2000 to 2005. The actualrestore process went ok. However, the database user of the restoreddatabase is missing a Login Name. I've made sure that the Login Nameis created in 2005. Also tried deleting the user, but couldn't theuser is db owner. Is there any way that I can assign a Login Name forthis database user or maybe drop this user and assign another one?Regards,Gerd

Dynamic Script To Add Domain Login Accounts 2000/2005

Jan 18, 2008

I'm attempting to write a script that I can execute accross 30 servers that will create a domain login and subsequently grant access to said account on all databases per server. The only problem that I'm running into is trying to dymanically create the login. Example source is below.

declare @sql varchar(1000)

declare @loginname varchar(50)

select @loginname = 'DOMAINaccountname'

set @sql = 'if not exists (select * from master.dbo.syslogins where name = N' + char(39) + 'DOMAINaccountname' + char(39) + ')' + char(10) + char(13)

set @sql = @sql + 'begin ' + char(10) + char(13)

set @sql = @sql + char(9) + 'exec master.dbo.sp_grantlogin ' + quotename(@loginname)

print @sql

exec (@sql)

Here is the generated output and the error. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

if not exists (select * from master.dbo.syslogins where name = N'DOMAINaccountname')

begin

exec master.dbo.sp_grantlogin [DOMAINaccountname]

Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 3

Incorrect syntax near 'DOMAINaccountname'.

Moved Aspnetdb To SQL Server - What Permissions Do I Need To Give The ASP IIS Service Account For That? (Getting: Cannot Open Database Aspnetdb Requested By The Login. The Login Failed.)

May 12, 2008

I am getting the error:
Cannot open database "aspnetdb" requested by the login. The login failed.
When I browse to my ASP.NET 3.5 LINQ web application on the IIS 6.0 server on Server 2003.
I imagine this is because while I granted SQL Server 2005 login and permissions to my database that the application stores its data in, I did NOT grant any rights to the service account the IIS Application Pool uses for its identity to the aspnetdb database on SQL Server which is where all my roles information is stored at.
My question is what are the MINIMUM permissions needed for this database so it can perform its roles related functions?
I'm using Windows Authentications with the SQL Role provider for authorization.

Thank you.

EDIT: I think I only need to open the aspnetdb database and add my login to the aspnet_Roles_FullAccess role.  Is that correct?

Intermittent Login/General Network Error Connecting To A Named Instance Of SQL 2000

Mar 27, 2008

Greetings,

I have a VB 2003 .NET application that I wrote for a customer that connects to a named instance of SQL 2000. Until recently it has been working fine. Lately the program either pops a timeout failure within a few seconds or a general network error. I've increased the connection timeout settings to 90 seconds but the error still pops within a few seconds. I'm thinking something has changed in the environment that prevents a clean connection to the named instance of SQL server.

How should this issue be troubleshoot to determine the problem and what areas need to be looked at?

Thanks
