I know that this group is for SQL Server 7.0; however, I was wondering if any of you knew how well SQL Server 2000 performed in a production environment. Currently the company I work for uses SQL Server 7.0 in the production environment and we were thinking about upgrading to 200, but were unsure if it was stable enough yet, as it's still pretty new. I don't really know of any other place to ask this question.

We´ve got a cube with 103 Levels and about 1.100.000 rows in the
fact table.
After processing the cube everything works fine.
After changing the fact-table (new rows) the only option is to
process the cube (no incremental update or refresh offered).
OK.
After processing the cube (which sometimes failes) the cube sometimes
containes wrong data !?
Sometimes during operation with the OLAP-Client(inSight from arcplan)
the data changes.
Sometimes it is not possible to connect to the cube.
Did anyone have same or other or better experience ?

Hi all,I have a server from which keeping clients off for maintenance isdifficult. They all have VPN connections and can be online any timethey want, and uptime as always is important.Now I need to run dbcc shrinkdatabase, checkdb and of coursecheckpoint right before backups, and when the log seems to grow. Ijust tried dbcc checkdb on my home computer and apparently its reallyio and CPU intensive on this dual P3. Can users be running queries andthe occasional update and insert while checkdb is doing its thing? Oris it better to lock everyone out?How about shrinkdatabase? Any benchmarks on the stability of thesecommands while other clients are running? If tables are getting lockedduring these commands, the log file will grow even if shrinkdatabaseis running...Any commands to show which tables are locked, and by whom or what?I just tried our 2.5GB database on my dual P3 with 256MB ram homecomputer.. checkdb took 8 minutes and shrinkdb took 1.5 minutes. We'vea dualP3 server at work, IBM xSeries 232 with 1GB ram, but even 5minutes of downtime can hurt if shrinkdb needs to be run during workhours.Any thoughts?

I would like to know how to improve the stability of running package. The server is not busy for other tasks. The resource should enough to run my task. It is strange.

I am running into some issue that i have found any good clue on this forum... although have seen a few threads dicussions. I have a master package which invokes a dozen of child packages.
1) If I only open master package inside IDE, I am keeping getting the following error when i run the master packages inside Visual Studio 2005 IDE.
The connection type "FLATFILE" specified for connection manager "XXXXX Flat File Destination Connection Manager" is not recognized as a valid connection manager type. This error is returned when an attempt is made to create a connection manager for an unknown connection type. Check the spelling in the connection type name
2) If I opened up all child packages inside IDE, the master package run fine most of time.
Any suggestions?

i got schema "stability locking" problem in sqlserver 2000.
i have a application which appends dailydata table to masterdata table, while appending schema stability lock is acquried, so my application waiting a lot of time to insert daily data to master table.
ex: query in my application is ..
INSERT INTO MAINTABLE SELECT * FROM DAILYTABLE
i rebooted my server and restarted the process again, eventhough i got the same problem again and again, there is no other process accessing the same table.
is there any way to reslove the problem ?

Because some time i am giving the date in dd/mm/yyyy and sometime mm/dd/yyyy.

yyyy/mm/dd format.

I am currently running SQL Server 2000 Standard on my production system, and I am looking to upgrade the system to Windows 2000 Adv. Server. I would also like to upgrade SQL Server 2000 Standard to SQL Server 2000 Enterprise to utilize more than 2GB of memory. I downloaded MSDE and am having trouble installing it, no doubt because I do not understand the documentaion (ReadMeMSDE2000A.htm).
When I try to run setup, I get that message that says:
"A strong SA password is required for security reasons. Please use SAPWD switch to supply the same."
Considering my purpose, do I need a "strong" SA password? If not, how do I get around it? If yes, how do I set it up?
I am a Mac user so I have poor windows skills, please make it as painless as possible for me, thanks!

Hi, I am trying to edit some data from a SQL2000-datasource in ASP.NET 2.0 and have a problem with a column that has bit-data and is used for selection. SQL2005 works fine when declaring <SelectParameters> <asp:Parameter DefaultValue="TRUE" Name="APL" Type="boolean" /> </SelectParameters>When running this code with SQL2000, there are no error-msgs, but after editing a record the "APL"-column looses its value of 1 and is set to 0. Looks like an issue with type-conversion, we've hit incompatibilities between SQL200 and 2005 with bit/boolean several times before. So, how is this done correctly with SQL2000? (I've tried setting the Type to "int16" -> err. Also setting Defval="1" gave an err) ThanksMichael

I'm using Access 2000 forms for a front end.I've got a System DSN set-up to SQL Server and am using links withinAccess 2000 to get to the SQL Server tables.My forms worked fine until I made a few minor changes to the databaseschema on SQL Server (e.g. added a foreign key, or added a column).After that, all the links break - I click on a table link and get anerror msg like "invalid object name."Deleting the links after a schema change and re-adding the links seemedto fix the problem. The forms I'd already created seemed to work fineafter re-creating the links.But then I got more advanced with my forms. I have it set up so thatfor certain entry fields, the combobox gets populated with values froma table (the description appears in the drop-down and the correspondingprimary key value gets populated in the table). I created a number offorms using this technique, entered data, and everything worked fine.Made a small schema change and it broke everything -- not the actualtable links, but the functionality for the drop-downs. My values nolonger appeared, and this was true for forms that accessed tables whoseschemas did not change.This is driving me nuts. View 1 Replies View RelatedI've just started getting this EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) on machines using Windows 2000 sp4 connecting to SQLServer. This is crashing JVMs (multiple Sun versions and BEA also) in the Java VM frame (outside our code). This has just started recently - perhaps with the last set of patches? Has anyone else seen this or know what I could do to get more information? Could this be related to updates to named pipes?

I worked on a project in ASP.NET using SQL server 2000 as the back end. Its a conversion application that I rewrote in ASP.NET using C#. I need to import the old data in Access db into SQL server 2000 and I have very little knowledge about doing it. The data in not a direct one -one transformation. There are considerable changes to the Database design and data types. Any help and suggestions wud be really helpful. Also, any article links wud be great.

server which is Windows 2000 based and the domain is different from
the SQL servers domain. We then installed Access 2000 on Windows 2000
to use with terminal server. But I noticed that there was a problem
with the program. I then looked at the program which was written on Access 2000 and saw that the tables and views can't be seen. The program runs but
I can't see the views and tables. Another thing is access disconects from SQL Server when I want to see the tables. So what can be the problem.
In one part there is an Access 2000 on Windows 2000 server. On the other part SQL Server 7.0 on Windows NT 4.0. And Access can't see the tables in SQL server.
I have a public mailbox that gets information mailed to it (in a pre-determined format).
Is there a way for that info to be put into a table in SQL Server without any user interaction (something running on the exchange server)?

A previous program installation created pending file operations on the installation machine. You must restart the computer before running . I have restarted machine and no change.

I am a freelance programmer and just picked up a client that has an instance of SQL Server. I just need to know if the Developer edition (I've seen it as low as $49) will function adequately for me to test the application I'm writing.
The test environment will be 2 PC's, 'A' running the server and 'B' the one I'm writing the software on. I need to configure comp 'A' to mirror the client's WAN and how various client's comps will access the database with the application I'm writing on comp 'B'. I don't need a full-blown liscense for the database, as I won't be keeping it after production is finished. I just need one I can connect to and configure for development testing without having to develope the software on-site.

Problem description
There are two sql servers with the same database in different locations with replication running on them. Users in the two locations insert or update date on there own database through an ms access application . The data are replicated to both servers.
Someone wanted a copy of the database and they dropped replication, but users continue to modify and add data on both servers and so replication could not be back again without merging the two databases as one again and restarting replication.
My job was to merge the databases and make replication work and after allot of work all is fine.
I copy and attached the database on my pc that I set up as a server and did the job. Then I went back on both servers that had replication running before I attached the database and set the subscriber and publisher and all was fine to that point.
The database has six groups with permissions on them and many database users on each location. Both the groups and the users show on the database.
I create a new login and user and I add him to the groups to get the permissions.
Now back on a user pc I login with the new user name run the ms access application and try to add some new records, but I get errors that I cannot insert null values to two of the fields in several tables in the database.
This was not happening before and the database was recording the values in those fields namely the user name and the date that the new record was created.
After some reading I found out that I might need to set the groups and permissions on the views and tables from the beging but Im not an expert.
Any ideas?

This past Monday, our Raid 5 array failed on our SQL 2000 server (standard edition). Long story short, we were able to get the data back, mostly. In SQL server Ent. Mgr., I had to restore 4 databases that were 'Suspect' and "greyed out". No problems there... I was able to restore them.
What was interesting was that the SQL Server Agent would not start. As it turned out, a few files were either corrupt or missing after we got the machine back up. We had to restore a few files from tape backup and now the SQL Server Agent starts... but now I have a new problem.
For some reason, my default SQL Server Agent "Job" that is scheduled to run once per day fails. It appears that all of the databases get backed up, but for some reason, the msdbdata.mdf database is NOT being backed up.
I have a few questions. Could my msdbdata.mdf be corrupt? I have a successful backup of the msdbdata.mdf table from 9/10/2007. Can I just restore from that? Will there be any repercussions to any of the other database tables if I do?
Furthermore, should I just restore the msdbdata.mdf, master.mdf and the model.mdf? I really have no idea what these tables do and the repercussions of modifying them. I am not a DBA (obviously) and I just don't want to make an mistakes.
