SQL Server 2005 Express Edition W/Reporting Services Problem...
Feb 16, 2007
For some reason, the Reporting Services Configuration Tool does not install with the Express Edition of Sql Server 2005 (although I can generate reports in preview mode of the SQL Server Business Intelligence Studio, which does install).
Anyone know how I can get this Reporting Services Configuration Tool to install, or is there a workaround to get the RS Server setup on our network computer?
I have downloaded the freeware SQL Server 2005 Express Edition for learning SQL Server. Now I want to get familiar with the BIDS and the reporting services. I want to know whether Express Edition supports these tools. If not then what do i need to have to get the same started?? I have a pc running on Vista.
Help from anyone will be greatly appreciated as I have been looking at the forums for quite a while and i am totally confused in this respect. What is the most uncomplicated way to solve this problem??
Has i install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services but why that Report Manager it was not installed. To me will not address under the reference http: // localhost/reports$SQLExpress since such catalogue is not present in IIS. In what there can be a problem?
I have SQL Server 2005 Express edition installed on my pc,running on Vista. I want to know how can I create reports on this arrangement?? Do i need to upgrade to advanced express edition or what?? Will I also need Visual Studio??
Please help as I am a beginer in this.....Can anybody tell me how to proceed towards getting familiar with Reporting in SQL Server
If i have been using sql server 2005 express for developing my application and i decide to upgrade to sql server 2005 express with advanced services while still working on the same application, what will happen to my application's database. Can i be able to continue with my work with out any major regrets.
Folks, Today I saw that an upgraded(?) version of SQL Server express was available. Since it is supposed to have the ability to generate a script to put a database on a hosted server I decided to get it. Bad decision. I uninstalled my previous version of SSE. and attempted to install the SP2 version with Advanced Services. After three installs I finally got the server to start. Now I can not log onto it using Management Studio Express. I know the server is running because I can see it in the task manager and I can open one database used with an ASP.NET web site through Visual Studio. Can you provide any suggestions on how to find my server or server instances through Management Studio? Do I need to remove all sql server related items and do a complete reinstall? I can see the server in the Configuration Manager and in the Surface configuration manager. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have spent way too much time on this. Thanks
Does SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advance Services comes with Reporting service. I mean to say If I have installed Express Edition in my computer, does seperate installation of Reporting service required.
i have an installation of SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and now i want to upgrade to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP1 but without uninstall the old version...could someone help me...
I've been using SQL Server 2005 Std. for my development work on a laptop w/ 2 GHz Celeron and 768 Mb RAM. Now that Express Edition has Reporting Services and Full-Text Search, would I be wise to just use it instead? I actually have both on my machine since Express Edition installed with VS 2005 Standard. Also, if I uninstall SQL Server 2005 Std. what will I lose? Thanks in advance.
Windows 2000 Professional (Build 2195: Service Pack 4)

I tried to install 'SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services'. First, I uninstalled the old version thru Add/Delete Programs in the Control Panel.
My first problem was I didn't have IIS installed on my computer, but, I could not find it in the downloads section.
Then the installation aborted because old version databases were in C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData. But, it would not let me delete them, saying that they were being used, even though nothing was running at the time that I tried to delete them.
I get the following error message each time I try to install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP2:
Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is either not installed or is disabled. IIS is required by some SQL Server features. Without IIS, some SQL Server features will not be available for installation. To install all SQL Server features, install IIS from Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel or enable the IIS service through the Control Panel if it is already installed, and then run SQL Server Setup again. For a list of features that depend on IIS, see Features Supported by Editions of SQL Server in Books Online.
This problem is described in: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920201 and each of the IIS 7 components specified in this article have been installed.
When I continue with: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934162, the script 'adsutil.vbs' cannot be executed because it does not exist anywhere on my drive.
My question is, what is the 'adsutil.vbs' script and how do I get a hold of it? Are these contortions really necessary to get SQL server working or has MS provided a patch for this nasty problem?
My system:
VISTA Home Premium, x64 Intel Quad CPU, 2.4GHz 4Gig RAM 500Gig hard disk
I have encountered a showstopper problem during installation. I have installed SSEE on a fresh XP, all the checks but memory requirements passed. In the final stage of the install, during the "real work", the Client Component installation failed due to missing ASP.NET state service (? spelling). After the failure the installation continued, but marked both the db engine and the management studio failed. Despite this, management studio was installed and later I have removed it with the control panel applet.
I have found a service (executable: aspnet_state.exe), started it and retried the installation. It failed again so I have removed everything installed except the VSS writer and started it again. This time the installation completed (and finally got BIDS).
Is it enough to start this ASP service manually for a painless install? I don't want to play this "on the field" ever...
i've tried to install sql server 2005 express edition several times but when it get to the 'database services' it gives the following error:
SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service configuration. The error was: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'sa'.
when insatalling "SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP2",the error message"cab file cannot open or corrupted",cannot read fron DVD/CD.when ignore that message installation exit.but,i try to install again.setup installed successfully .but sqlserevr cannot be connected.
From reading the licensing considerations page [1], my understanding is that if my environment is 2 servers - an IIS Server and a separate SQL Server Std - I will need a 2nd license of SQL Server to run Reporting Services on my IIS Server? Is this correct? If so, would a license of SQL Server Express Edition w/Advanced Services satisfy the second license requirement, or would I need a license to match the database server?
Essentially, what is the recommended guidance for Reporting Services and Web Applications? It's a known best practice that, for performance, run SQL Server on a dedicated machine separate from IIS. Is it recommended that the database server also serve the reports?
I am installing SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services on Windows XP Home Edition SP2 and received error 29521. I am installing with an account that has administrator rights. The summary.txt file contains: Error String : SQL Server Setup failed to execute a command for server configuration. The error was {Microsoft}{SQL Native Client}{SQL Server}CREATE DATABASE failed. Some file names listed could not be created. Check related errors.. Refer to the server error logs and Setup logs for detailed error information. Error Number : 29521
From the Windows update site and also via automatic download of updates, the following update fails every time...The SQL it is trying to update works fine. The following updates were not installed: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services Service Pack 2 (KB 921896)
Can I use C# express edition 2008 with Reporting Services.
and i add 2008 report viewer component in my tool box list
while viewing the report in my solution ...i was getting the error as given below..
The report definition is not valid. Details: The report definition has an invalid target namespace "http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2007/01/reportdefinition' which cannot be upgraded.
Hi, I had previously installed SQL Server 2005 Express edition (and later, SQl Server Management studio express). Recently, I wanted to try out 'Reporting services' and downloaded 'SQL server 2005 express Toolkit'. After installation, I have a new program group 'Visual studio 2005' . I started that with 'New Report Project'. I tried to attach an existing database (to be precise, in 'connection string' part) , but it is giving error saying
'An error has occured while establishing connection to Server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005 (???) ,..... may be caused the fact that under default setting SQL Server does not allow remote connections '
I tried my existing SQL Server 2005 express edition Surface Area Configuration and it is configured for accepting remote connection using both TCP/IP & named pipes.
Now, I have following doubts: 1. Do I have to download & install SQL Server 2005 Express edition wiht Advanced options, if I wish to use Reporting services or I can use the existing SS2005EE along with Toolkit services? 2. If answer is yes to above question, how do I attach a database?
If you can throw some light on above, I shall be very grateful to you.
I've installed Visual Basic 2005 express edition & tried to connect to SQL Server 2005 express edition. I noticed that VB2005 Express Edition doesn't have any OLEDB provider for SQL Server. The only OLEDB Provider is for M.Access. Is this correct? if so, what should i do if i want to connect SQL Server 2005 express edition with VB2005 express edition by using OLEDB connection type?
I really appreciate any respond from you guys.. Thank's and waiting for the good news..
Hi, I'm wondering if I can use SQL 2005 Reporting Services with SQL Server 2000, SQL Express or MSDE, or I need to install SQL Server 2005 in order to use Reporting Services 2005? Thank you in advance.
I have problem during first configuration of Reporting Services from MS SQL 2005 Server Express with Advanced Services SP2. The error occurs when configuring virtual directory (Reporting Services Configuration Manager -> Report Server Virtual Directory). When I try to create new virtual directory I can see following messages:
Number of errors: 0 Create Virtual Directory
The virtual directory was created and assigned. Changing Secure Connection Level
After last message Windows reports that SQL Server 2005 Reporting Configuration Tool has encountered a problem and needs to close (and I can send report to Microsoft).
IIS shows that virtual directory under default web site was created.
My environment: MS SQL Reporting Services Version 9.00.3042.00 Windows XP Proffessional SP2 IIS 5.1 all components are fresh new installations. The only additional configuration I've made was adding IWAM_<hostname> as WebServiceAccount, all other configuration is default.
Hello all, I have installed an SQL 2005 Standard Edition and I deploy 1 RS in the web server successfully. I wanted to know if there is a possibility to install another RS on my 2nd web server (I have 2 web servers because I have WSD active/passive) although I know you can use scale out only in SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition!
Can reporting services be upgraded to include data driven subscriptions or must SQL server be upgraded to enterprise edition. Currently I am using SQL 2000 standard edition 32bit with reporting services and data driven subscription. Has the features been changed from 2000 to 2005?
I have been unable to create a replication from an SQL Server 2005 standard edition database to remote SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. The remote express edition is on a Virtual Private Server we are leasing from a hosting company. The name of the remote DB is similar to vs572.si-vs572.com. I can connect to this with SQL server authentication through Management Studio and also with SSIS. But, I have been unable to create a push subscription (I have tried a test push subscription with the same publication to a local SQL Express server here in our office and this works fine).
Here is the error message: SQL Server Replication requires the actual server name to make a connection to the server. Connections through server alias, IP address, or any other alternate name are not supported. Specify the actual server name, 'VS572SQLEXPRESS'.
The hosting company had originally installed a shared SQL server which would not support replication. They then installed SQL Express edition and I was hoping this would allow us to run a replication.
I tried to connect to VS572SQLEXPRESS with out any luck. I check the remote connections, made sure replication was installed, etc., but no luck.
