SQL Server 2005 Express And ASP.NET Web Site Administration Tool Problem.
Mar 31, 2006
I installed SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, I can login to it just fine using SQL Server Management Studio Express. I ran the aspnet_regsql and it created the aspnetdb database. But when I try to test the AspNetMembershipProvider or go to the Security tab in the ASP.NET Web Site Administration Tool it does not work. I have tried messing with the connectionString of the LocalSqlServer in the machine.config, but to no avail. My SQL Server is installed on the Default Instance. Can someone help me get ASP.NET Web Site Administrator to work with my SQL Server 2005 Express Edition?
I am getting the following error using the Web Site Administration Tool. I have created the database I want to use. Please help.Could not establish a connection to the database. If you have not yet created the SQL Server database, exit the Web Site Administration tool, use the aspnet_regsql command-line utility to create and configure the database, and then return to this tool to set the provider.
The utility either is not working or I do not know how to use it.
I have SQL 2005 Express and SQL 2000. SQL 2000 is working properly, not sure about SQL 2005. I have been told to use SQL 2000 because that is what our server is using. I am developing on my server and when application works will port to our server.
Hello,I'm trying to create new users and roles using the Web Site Administration Tool, tab Provider, but I get the following error message: Could not establish a connection to the database. If you have not yet created the SQL Server database, exit the Web SiteAdministration tool, use the aspnet_regsql command-line utility to create andconfigure the database, and then return to this tool to set the provider. Then I ran aspnet_regsql utility using default values in every screen, but I got the following error message: Setup failed.Exception:Unable to connect to SQL Server database.----------------------------------------Details of failure----------------------------------------System.Web.HttpException: Unable to connect to SQL Server database. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) ...How can I solve this? Thanks
Hi,I have a problem when I use ASP .NET Web Application Administration tool. When I click the Security tab, I receive following message"There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store. The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: Unable to connect to SQL Server database."In the same page, there is a button to go to Provider section. I clicked it, and I went to the Provider page. There, there were two links, which were: "Select a single provider for all site management data" and "Select a different provider for each feature (advanced)". I clicked the earlier, and I was redirected to a page to select provider. There, there was a link, I clicked it and I receive following message:" Provider Management

If you have not yet created the SQL Server database, exit the Web Site Administration tool, use the aspnet_regsql command-line utility to create and configure the database, and then return to this tool to set the provider. "After reading this message, I opened Command Prompt and went to C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727. There, I ran the aspnet_regsql command, and then ASP .NET SQL Server Setup Wizard was displayed. In the first page of this wizard I chose "Configure SQL Server for application services" and then I clicked "Next" button. In the second page I left all fields as they were and then I clicke"Next". In the third page I only clicked "Next" and then some process ran. Finally, in the last page I received following message:"Setup failed.Exception:Unable to connect to SQL Server database.----------------------------------------Details of failure----------------------------------------System.Web.HttpException: Unable to connect to SQL Server database. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. I tried to use this administration tool on computer in my house and everything was just fine. Why do I have this problem in my office?
I am using the Web Site Administration Tool with the ASP.NET login controls to create/manage user logins & roles for my site.
I have exported the ASPNETDB.MDF into my SQL Database ready to use with my app. The problem that I'm having is that whenever I add a user, using either the Web Site Administration Tool or the Classes available in the code-behind. The entry is doubled up in the database.
This is not a problem when logging on....however, when it comes to deleting a user it will only take one of the entries out and leave the duplicate in there. So if the administrator has deleted a user from the app and then tried to create another one with the same UserName (Which whomever is well within his/her rights to be able to do), they cannot because the entry which has "stay behind" in the database conflicts with the entry.
Any help on this matter would be greatly apprieciated. If any more info on this matter is required please ask (It was quite hard to try and explain this :-)
How do I tranfer a previous table and its data to the ASPNETDB.MDF in the Web Site Administration tool. I've tried right, but I can't locate the database in the SQL server on my server. help please.
I am new to VWD, and web development. I installed VWD and SQL Server Express local.
I'm learning how to use the VWD with some of the walkthrough samples. It was going great until I got to the walkthrough where it show "how to use configure user and role with Web Site Admin Tool". I followed the walkthrough steps by step. I clicked the Security Tab and I got the following error:
"There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store. I read some article. According to the articles, SQL Server Express will automatically create the asp database for the first time. but my SSE did not create the database.
Lets say I use the 'enabling roles' for my ASP 2.0 site. This creates a ASPNETDB.DBF SQL Express file. Later I go to post this to a real web server - which runs the 'full' MS SQL2005 server. What happens to the ASPNETDB.MDF file (or for that matter, any other MDF file I create with SQL Express) when it leaves the Express world and enters the Real world.
I have installed SQL Server 2005 Express Advanced Edition. I wan to use it as a database backend for a Web Site I am building which will use the Snitz Forums ASP web. Hi guys, I am using DLinq with SQL Server Express 2005 and I need to install some kind of user interface which shows me a trace of the SQL statements sent. I would like to see them in real time (I won't like to inspect a log after :-). I remember that there was something similar in SQL Server 2000 full edition, but I requiere the same functionality in the Express version now.
Could you tell me if there is some tool to do that? Thanks in advance, Erich.
Hi... Does anybody know of an open source script I can download that will enable me to manage an SQL database? I basically need to access and modify the database from any machine that may not have SQL Enterprise Manager Installed. I was thinking of writing my own script to do this but I assumed that there is probably already one out there.
Hi all,I have installed MSDE on my computer but it's missing, as all you alreadyknow, a serious (well, osql IS TOO serious but not very newbie friendly)admin tool.I have downloaded http://www.asql.biz/DbaMgr.shtm and i'm quite happy withit but was wondering if there's something better or that may complete whatDbaMgr2k is missing... and preferably is as free as DbaMgr2k.Thank You,Lorenzo
I am trying to set up the web administration for a website that uses login controls. I have set up the ASPNETDB database using the regular aspnet_regsql command on my SQLEXPRESS.
To set up the web admin tool, I created a vdir to point to %WINDIR%Microsoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727ASP.NETWebAdminFiles. This works absolutely fine. I also changed the configuration of this website to use the ASPNETDB on my SQLEXPRESS.
The administration website works fine till I click on the security tab, and I get the following error:
Cannot open database "aspnetdb" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'HOMEASPNET'
What I don't understand is why the application is using the ASPNET account to connect to the database when impersonation is enabled. Isn't it supposed to use the credentials of the windows user? I read a couple of posts on MSDN which advise to explicitly create a login for the ASPNET user in the ASPNETDB database (which will definitely work) but somehow it seems counter-intuitive to me. Any advise anyone?
I get the following error message when i click the Security tab on my websites' Administration tool. All the other tabs are working properly. There is a problem with your selected data store. Dear all,I've been using ASP.NET with SQL 2005 express for several months and everything has been fine. Now a customer asks me to install my application on an already existant instance of SQL Server standard edition.I was not able to use nor my application, neither a HelloWorld example.I created a simple Default.aspx that uses a simple database with a single table "Person" via a standard gridview. When I try to open the page I receive an error wich informs me that NT Network service is not able to access database.I've been searching on google for hours and I've tryed unsuccessfully several different way.Can anyone suggest me a scientific procedure to migrate an ASP .net web site from sql 2005 express to sql 2005 standard ?Thank you very Much Fabrizio
Hi, I am writing Stock inventory and POS application. POS will be used at multiple branches to collect sales, whereby Stock Inventory will be used in HQ for product info maintenance, stock in and etc.
I need to send all of the branch sales records back to HQ and send updated product info such as cost to branches everyday (could be multiple times per day).
I am thinking to use SQL Server Express 2005 at branches and SQL Server 2005 standard at HQ.
Do you think it is workable? What is the mechanism I can use to "transfer" these data?
Are there any way I can make changes to my database without stopping the web site? I'm using SQL Server 2005 Express for my web shop. And each time I have to add or change a table or Stored Procedure I have to stop the site. What I do is to stop the web site (in IIS), restart the IIS and then open the database in the SQL Server 2005 Express Management tool. If I don't "release" the file first I get an error when I try to open the database file in the Management tool. But there must be a better way to do things? I also would like to take bacup of the database without stopping the site, but how? There must be others that have had the same problems? Regards, Sigurd
Hi! My problem is...i gut this errormessage in Web Site Administration Tool: There is a problem with your selected data store. In order to manage and use SQL databases it seems I have to use SQL Studio Mgt Tool. But, where is it? I can only see Configuration Tools, but not any Mgt tool or DB Engine......
Hi guys, I've tried to back a database from a server on the net ie: discountasp.net by using Microsoft SQL 2005 Express management tool. After all the set up: (1) the part "Destination", in the "Disk" radio button was cheked, the path for the backup file shows like: D:MSSQL.1MSSQLBackupmyDatabase.back; As I understand D: is the CD drive(?), so I put a CDisc in the drive, and kept going with the process. The Process went very well and inform that the Database has been fully backed up. But I never have found the "saved" or "backed up" that I backed up. Can anyone show me where this backup Database in that D: drive, and where is that D: drive anyway?
(2) In that "destination" part, if I clicked "add", and then typed in the path address part like: C:....mybackupDatabase.bak for example, the the tool gave me the error: ... not set to an instance ...; I counldn't even select the Browse to browse to the directory that I wanted to back up the Database.
I am running SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with SP2 on Windows XP professional. When I check the microsoft documentation, it says that it is not possible to setup multiserver administration in standard edition. Have anyone tried this in Standard edition.
I have created a new database using Visual Web Developer and wanted to manage it using either the SQL Server Management Tool or MS Access via ODBC. Niether of these tools will connect to the database. The database file , called srx.mdf, the connection string is Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=C:InetpubwwwrootSRExchangeApp_Datasrx.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True I can however connect successfully to the master file, the conenction string for this is Data Source=.sqlexpress;Integrated Security=True Any help appreciated.
When I installed VS 2005, it installed the default version of SQL Server 2005 Express that ships with Visual Studio 2005 installer media.
How can apply SQL Server 2005 Express SP1 to update this existing instance?
Currently, if I run this query:
SELECT @@version
I get the following:
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06 (Intel X86) Oct 14 2005 00:33:37 Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Express Edition on Windows NT 5.1 (Build 2600: Service Pack 2)
After applying SP1, I should get 9.00.2047.00.
Should I just go to this link and download & install the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP1:
I moved all my databases to sql server 2005 & when appliction is trying to connect to 2005 databases i get the following error In the connection string i am using Password=test;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=test;Initial Catalog=test;Data Source=externalip/instancename
this is the only change on the web server

Can someone show me, or direct me, to a source, that shows me how, and what to change, when deploying a website from a development server running Sql Ex to a production server running Sql server 2005. I can’t get the sites to run under Sql server 2005.
They work in Sql Ex. what must I change? The connection string, to what format? and what else? I attached the dB to Sql 2005 and browsed the content in the Sql manager. But can’t get the aspx pages to work on the server.
On my VWD 2005 Express, I have installed 2 SQL Server 2005 Express databases in the App_Data folder.I kind of remember these 2 databases were installed from Wrox web site or a zip file. Now we still useSQL Server 2000 databases for our ASP.net applications. I have downloaded the SQL Server 2005 Express. These 2 databases in the App_Data folder seem to work fine although I can not see them from theManagement Studio Express. My question is: How do I 'manually' create a new SQL Server 2005 database into the App_Data folder? TIA,Jeffrey
