SQL Server 2005 Opening Script File Problem

Aug 17, 2006

I just installed SQL Server 2005 on my PC (the developer's edition)
yesterday. I have some scripts written by one of my coworkers to
create some tables and stored procedures in a database that I've
already created on my computer. Whenever I go to open the script file
(whose icon shows that it's a SQL Server Query File and I've got the
file type set to open with SQLWB - SQL Server Management Studio), the
file opens in Notepad instead of appearing in the query window. My
coworker told me that he just dragged and dropped the file in the query
window and I tried that and got the same results (opening in Notepad).
I can copy and paste the cotents of the file into the query window and
run it but of course this gets cumbersome for long scripts.

Is there a setting or something that I need to change? I have SQL
Server 2000 installed on my computer too.

Thanks.

Opening A DTS File With SQL Server 2005

Sep 16, 2007

Hello everybody,

I need held. I have to do a migration from DTS files to DTSX files.
I have SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition and I would simply like to edit a DTS package in order to remake a SSIS one.
In fact I dont want to use the migration wizad.
That seems very easy but I don't manage to edit a DTS file.
So how to do?

Thanks.

Samuel

PS : When I use the migration wizard, I have the following problem : the task is stopped as so far as all the SQL Server 2000 tasks aren't migrated to SQL Server 2005. For instance, the migration of the SQL Server Analysis Services task and of the data-mining prevision are not supported (Microsoft.SqlServer.DtsMigration).

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio - Opening SQL-File From Explorer Does Not Connect Automaticly To Server/database

Apr 25, 2008

hello,

I have a question about opening files in the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio.

In the old Query Analyzer from SQL 2000 I can open SQL Files via drag & drop (from explorer to QA) or open it with a double click in the explorer. Then the Files opened, if I had actual a connection to a server / database (QA is stared with one file and has a connection to Server/Datebase), with this connection.

Now in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio I'll be asked everytime for Server and have to get the database from the database list - it does not connect automaticly to server/database, that is actual connected (I have opened a file with the connection and a connected database in the object explorer).

Someone do not have this problem - but we found no option to set it up.

Any ideas?

thanks &
best regards,
Christian Kiedels

Help Opening .MDF File

Jan 26, 2007

I’m trying to follow the article http://aspnet.4guysfromrolla.com/articles/031506-1.aspx. It gives a sample to download at the bottom which I did. I’m trying to take a look at the Stored Proc that were created in the PagingData.mdf. The only thing included in the App_Data folder is PagingData.mdf file. How can I open the DB or attach it to my SQL2005 server? There is no .ldf file included in the sample so the attaching is failing.

Opening A MS SQL .bak File

Apr 16, 2008

Hi, I have a client who has a current website based on an MS SQL database. I am building a new website that will be in MySQL.

I have never used MSSQL before and the only information that i have been sent by the old web designer is a .bak file (which is the latest back-up of the MS SQL info) and the user name and password for the current on-line databases.

I dont know how to open this .bak file, ideally i would like to get it into MS excel or MS access. I have downloaded
SQL Server Management Studio Express and SQL Server Configuration Manager but i dont know what to do next (and am really confused!)

Can anyone advise me of the steps that i need to take to get the data out of the .bak file?

I would be VERY greateful of any assistance.

Thanks in advance,
Rebecca.

Time Delay When First Opening The Sql 2005 Reporting Services

Dec 27, 2006

I noticed that the Reporting Services is taking longer to open in the morning or after a period of time in-active. My guest is that the SSRS is set to idle/stop after certain time when it is in-active state and it will take time to start the Reporting Services when it is activated. My question is how to make SSRS active all the time ie never go to "sleep". What is the Pro and Con of this approach? Thanks.

SQL 2005 Unexplained Error When Opening Recordset Or Multiple Sets

Aug 12, 2007

To anyone that can help me

we have a application written in straight ASP, we recently upgraded our SQL database connecting to the application from SQL 2000 to 2005 here is the issue

currently SQL 2005 is located in our test and UAT environments, SQL 2005 is not clustered in either location. Now let me make it clear THIS PROBLEM IS NOT HAPPENING IN OUR TEST ENVIRONMENT, I REPEAT THIS PROBLEM IS NOT HAPPENING IN OUR TEST ENVIROMENT, THIS PROBLEM IS ONLY HAPPENING IN OUR UAT ENVIROMENT

Each enviroment is outfitted with the following SQL 2005 environment, Enterprise Edition SP1 with Cumlative hotfix package 2153 just the SISS fix ONLY

now the problem is this, we have a vb program located directly on the server that has SQL 2005 on it that VB program inserts a timestamp into a table inside the database, now how this happens is the program connects to the database and opens a recordset with a forwardonly cursor and inserts the timestamp

NOW THE EXACT PROBLEM IS THAT THE VB PROGRAM CANNOT OPEN MULTIPLE RECORDSETS, THE ERROR RECEIVED IS LABLED LIKE THIS

ODBC DRIVER ERROR 8000405 SHARED MEMORY SQL DOESNT EXIST OR ACCESSED DENIED,

NOW here is the interesting part, AGAIN THIS IS NOT HAPPENING IN OUR TEST ENVIRONMENT, THE VB PROGRAM AGAIN IS ON THE TEST SQL SERVER AND HAS A FORWARD ONLY CURSOR AND INSERTS JUST FINE

NOW IF I MOVE THE VB PROGRAM OUT OF OUR UAT ENVIRONMENT ONTO ANOTHER SERVER IT INSERTS THE RECORD ONTO SQL SERVER JUST FINE, IT OPENS THE RECORDSET AND OPERATES NORMALLY, BOTH SERVERS HAVE EXACT SAME PERMISSIONS

Can anyone help me understand whats happening here

One note, when we changed the cursortype from forward-only to keyset it worked fine but that doesnt explain things

why does it work in test so clearly what we did with changing the cursortype isnt the answer

Thanks please consider this a urgent request

Native Oracle SQL -&&> SQL Server 2005 CE .sdf File -&&> Using Visual Studio 2005?

May 23, 2007

I've got a table adapter that connects using an oracle data connector. In the adapter, I'm using native oracle SQL such as:

select TO_DATE(SUBSTR(TO_CHAR(weird_oracle_field),0,12),'YYYYMMDDHH24MI') as dt_added from oracle_data_table

There's also a CASE statement in there with some other data transformations.

Anyway, I want to take the results of that Oracle query and put the dataset into a SQL Server Compact Edition database - within an application that I'm creating in Visual Studio 2005.

For whatever reason, I can't seem to do anything like that in 'bulk' and there aren't any data migration tools that work with anything other than "full" SQL Server versions. My client doesn't support SQL Server, but I can deploy my app with SQL CE. I need a 'local' copy of the database (for several reasons) and just can't seem to figure out how to make this work.

I'm really going nuts. I feel like I'm soooo close when I see the data I want in the table adapter - but I can't seem to actually *move* the data over!!

Can anyone help?

thanks,

Jon

Having Trouble Opening Connection To SQL Server From A C# ASP.NET Web Service.

Oct 29, 2004

Well here is my connection string, I used these details to succesfully access the server from mySQL gui.

SqlConnection shhfd = new SqlConnection ("Data Source=http://www.mydomain.co.uk; " +
"user id=mteccles; password=mypass; connection timeout=30; "

then... try { shhfd.Open(); blah blah blah.

The exception caught is as follows.

at System.Data.SqlClient.ConnectionPool.GetConnection(Boolean& isInTransaction) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnectionPoolManager.GetPooledConnection(SqlConnectionString options, Boolean& isInTransaction) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.Open() at WebService1.Service1.HelloWorld() in g:inetpubwwwrootwebservice1service1.asmx.cs:line 120

My guess is that something in the web.config isn't right or maybe the host (webfusion) is strange. Thanks if anyone can help.

Problem In Opening SQL Server Express Database

Feb 10, 2008

Hi Guys,

I am try to create an application (WPF) that uses data from an SQL server database via a web service, all localized on my computer in a virtual folder.
The program work fine, it can retrieve the data from the database.

The problem arises when I want to open the same database with server explorer in VS2008 or with SQL server management studio.

Once I have used my application those two programs are not able any more to establish a connection with the database inviting me to close the program that is using the database. Even if I shut down my application and the full project those to program can not open it. I need to switch the computer off.

My application closes and dispose the connection as soon as the data have been retrieved.

The connection string that I am using is the following:

"Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataDataBaseName.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True"

The question is why am I seeing these problems?

What I am doing wrong

Am I opening a connection in a exclusive way without realizing?

Please help me, I am getting crazy!!!

Cheers

Problem Opening Sql Server Management Studio

Oct 16, 2007

Hi all,

can anyone advise on a problem i am having.
I have installed SQL Server Express but i am getting an error when i try to open up the management studio app.
The DB seems to be fine as i can connect to this from another machine.

The error i get says:
The proper type library could not be found in the system registry.
An attempt to repair this condition failed because you do not have the permissions to write to the system registry
or because the type library cound not be loaded.
This can be fixed by a system administrator running this program once, which will cause the proper file to be registered.
If problems still persist, then try repairing this application from the setup program.

I am running windows Vista x86.

I have tried opening it as administrator and still no could, i have uninstalled it and re-installed it about 10 times and am
getting pretty sick.

Has anyone seen this one before ????

Thanks in advance

Ian.

SQL Server Mobile Encountered Problems When Opening The Database.

Hello!
I'm trying to connect a sql ce database from a PPC with WM 2003 to a sql server 2005 database.

I discover the class SqlCeRemoteDataAccess, so i've been trying, unsucessfuly, to get things working.

I googled a lot, i read Ms Articles from MSDN, i read some posts here, but can't find solution for my problem. As you can see in my code, i already tryed different aprroaches, differente connections strings, with "provider", without "provider", with "sspi", without "sspi", you name it...

I configure the sql server agent like i read in msdn, and he's working well, i'm able to see the message. ("Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition Server Agent" when i open the url).

The sql database credentials are correct, i already check that.

I did everything i knew and i read, unfortunately i still can't manage to find a solution for an error message:

"SQL Server Mobile encountered problems when opening the database." The native error is 28559

That's an Exception error message, that appears to me.

Can somebody help me?

Thank you!

SQL Server Compact Edition Encountered Problems When Opening The Database

Oct 10, 2007

I'll try and ask one more time. Does anyone have a clue how to fix this?

"A SQL Server Compact Edition DLL could not be loaded. Reinstall SQL Server Compact Edition. [ DLL Name = sqlceca30.dll ]"

or

"SQL Server Compact Edition encountered problems when opening the database"
"Internal error: The database is not initialized."

I've been fighting this for well over a week now. My XP based version works fine but this error occurs routinely on my CE4.2 device. I cannot find anything meaningful using Google other than 'look for non disposed' replication objects which I've done. Is this bad hardware? I don't believe I'm out of memory as the app is about 1.2MB including about 8 DLL's and GC indicates I have about 300KB of objects at the time of the failure. I also use a bunch of static (global) objects that I use throughout the code.

It would be nice if I could get the lower level error messages causing these failures but that is probably too much to ask.

The odd thing is that it's only the replication engine that fails as even after the failure, the app can reopen the DB and work with the data just fine.

My basic order of the application is...

1 Open DB SqlCEConnection
2 Create/Prepare any SqlCECommand objects
3 Do work here
4 Dispose any SqlCECommand objects
5 Close DB
6 Dispose SqlCEConnection object
7 Create SqlCEReplication object
8 BeginSynchronize
9 ... error here..
10 Dispose SqlCEReplication object
11 Reopen DB SqlCEConnection

I've tried creating the Replication object at program start and that does not help. I'm guessing there is something about .net that I don't understand either with stack space, # dll's or whatever. I've rearranged the order of the Dispose, Create, SQL CE objects to include just about every permutation but still am hitting this same problem.

Are there any tools that can help me profile this app for memory problems or usage? Everything seems geared for .Net and not .NetCF.

thanks.

SQL Server 2012 :: Creating Running Total Based On Single (SUM) Opening Balance

Jun 7, 2015

I am creating a query that shows the consumption of stock against Manf Orders (M/O) and struggling on the last hurdle. I am having difficulties calculating a running total based on an Opening Balance. The first line returns the correct results but the following lines do not. I have tried other variants of the "Over Partition" but still no joy?

SELECT CASE WHEN ROWNUMBER > 1 THEN ''
ELSE A.Component
END AS Component ,
CASE WHEN ROWNUMBER > 1 THEN ''
ELSE A.SKU

[Code] ....

Please see attachment to view output.

SQL Server 2012 :: Calendar Style Report With 12 Months (as Columns) And Store Opening Listing In Rows

Oct 16, 2014

I am trying to create a calendar style report that will have 12 months (as columns) and store opening listing in rows. I have created a matrix, but the problem that I have is that the store opening listing displays in the right period, but they are not in any order. I would like to have the openings always on top, right under the header in the matrix. Now I have them scattered randomly all over the matrix. I tried numerous way of sorting and that does not work.

I am attaching a sample of what I would like to accomplish (months are columns).

SQL Server 2005 - Convert .BAK File To .MDF

Mar 27, 2008

Hello There,
I would really appreciate if you can help me with this problem. I am currently using SQL Server 2005 Express for one of my web application. I have a .bak file (backup file) provided by my client which I want to use for testing purpose. Now I just want to know how can I use that backup file without installing SQL SERVER 2005 as one way to do this I know is to restore the database in SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Manager but I can't install SQL Server 2005.
To my knowledge, SQL Server Express uses .mdf file for database but what I have is .BAK file..
I would be really glad to see your quick answers.
Thank you for reading this far.
Sincerely,
Zulfiqar
