I am having problems installing SP1 successfully. So far I've tried it on two separate Windows 2003 server boxes running SQL Server 2005 Standard v9.0.1399.
The first upgraded successfully all over services except the SQL server itself. Reporting services then failed due to database version mismatch but that was easily fixed. The other box doesn't have anything other than SQL2005 and components were upgraded but the database upgrade failed. I got the generic "send this error to microsoft" message.
I've tried other suggested fixes on this board but none have worked so far.

I have installed successfully Microsoft SQL server 2005 in MSCS.
However the set up did not install Workstation components (client tools - SSMS etc).
I have successfully installed workstation components in one node of cluster.
However setup is giving following error while installing workstation components on other node. (From this node MS SQL server 2005 was installed).

It executed but no error, no output.
Any gues, help in isolating issue?
Any more information required.(Media is ok. Setup has been tried after reboot. There is enough disk space.)

We have releases a shrink wrapped winforms application that uses SQL Express as its backend. The product has a fairly large take up, and consequently it is being installed on a large numbre of different machines and configurations. We seem to be having quite a common problem with the installation of SQL Express, we launch the installation from our own installation package with the following command line

I can't quite understand what the problem is, has anybody got an idea?
I have tried to do a new SQL 2005 install via an unattended install script. I have tried both a modified version of the template.ini and just from the command line.
The installation starts and successfully installs some of the components I have selected through the ADDLOCAL option. Unfortunately it then reports an execution error and exits.

The files reported as failing to be added to the .cab file do not exist, although .Net 2.0 was successfully installed. All other log files do not seem to contain errors.

I'd like to install SQL SERVER 2005 Express Edition ,I begin to install it from DVD but during the installation it dosn't ask me about any instance and after installation there isn't SQLExpress service and I can't use sql server .(there are not MSSQL and Binn directory in sql server 2005) but when I install visual studio 2005 and after that I install sql server 2005 it ask me for name of instance and with this way every thing is ok and I use sql server completely.

Hey guys, I'm creating an ASP.Net 2.0 Web app with VB in the code behind files. I've created a few reports in Business Intelligence Dev Studio that I've deployed to a Windows 2003 Server that has SQL Server 2005 & Reporting Services 2005 on it. Last night I ran into a problem as I tested code on my laptop. And after about 3 hours I have come to the conclusion that it's the way Vista authenticates or its some kind of bug.
When I go to set the report parameters I get an error about invalid credentials and get a HTTP 401 unauthorized. I googled and searched on the forums, however it didn't make sense to me why it was working before now not working. No one was signed on AIM to test to see if it was a specific computer issue, so I decided to try and code a workaround.
I set ShowCredentialsPromt to True and I never got a prompt for credentials when the parameters were attempted to be set. I just got the error. I'm not on my laptop right now, but I will include the exact verbiage of the error message.
i have read lots of posts regarding this by my question is why does the same code not work on Vista than XP? Is that the deciding factor of my issue? I'll get some friends with Vista to test out the site and see if they get the error as well. Any insight?
I've run into a problem trying to install SP2 for SQL2005 on a Server 2003 system. I tried to troubleshoot this myself but the logs are just not verbose enough. The box was just rebuilt with Server 2003, then SP2 for 2003 was immediately applied. SQL2005 was then installed. In my attempt to install SP2 for SQL2005, the following errors occured:

I installed Visual Studio 2005 Professional then after that was installed and running, I tried to install the the SQL Server 2005 Developer's Edition which installed but I do not get the SQL Server 2005 Studio Manager. I have remove and reinstalled but it never gets installed. Any ideas?

I have to install SQL Server 2005 on SBS Standard 2003. I am already running Sql Server Desktop Engine with three instances: MSSQL$SHAREPOINT, MSSQL$SBSMONITORING, MSSQL$BLUECOAT. I am wondering how the installation is gonna affect my system. I do need SQL Server 2005 for the new financial software which is intalled 2morrow. What shall I put as the instance during the installation. Is Sql Server Desktop Engine gonna be replaced by SQL Server 2005?
i had downloaded .Net and SQL Server 2005 from microsoft site. In SQL Server 2005 after installation i get only Configuration Tools and 3 subtopics. I am able to create table only through . NET but am not able to work independantly with SQL Server 2005. Can anyone advice me!!

Hi, SQL Server 2005 has been installed on windows server 2003 machine by the support team. Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 9.00.3042.00 Now this machine has been passed on to me to create databases, tables, etc... On this server, I open the management studio and I get the connect to server windows. What should the entries in the connect to server window be for me to get to the next stage where I can start building databases. At present, I tried local or localhost and windows/sql authentication. Still can not get to the management studio window. Any thoughts please? Thanks

I have just purchased SQL Server 2005 and a new Dell 2800 server to run it on. I was told by my Dell rep to configure the server with the following drives. 2 - 36GB drives in a RAID 0 (15,000 RPM), 2 - 73GB drives in a RAID 0 (10,000 RPM) and 3 - 146GB drives in a RAID 5 (10,000 RPM). Dell pre-installed the OS on the 36GB drive. I was told to install SQL on the 73GB drives and the data (primarily TIFF images) on the 146GB. The server is a 64bit machine with Windows 2003 Server and 4GB of RAM. I was told to put the transaction logs on a different physical drive that the database to speed the writes. Is this a correct installation? Is there any information on a best practice installation? I have spent about 6 hours on MS and Google trying to find an answer. Thanks for any help you can give. While installing sql server express 2005 get an error message install latest version using sqlnci.msi . Please let me know from where i can find or download sqlnci.msi
