Dear All,
I am getting SQL Server 2005 unable to resume transaction Exception
Please guide and help
Thanks,
Waheed.
I'm working on a large scale project that is currently in production. We have a big process that recently changed to use In-Memory Tables with SQL 2014 for performance efficiency.
The Process uses:
51 In-Memory SQL Tables.
50 Stored Procedures (not native) that loads data(Insert) from about 150 regular Tables and IM tables.
300 Validations (short stored procedure not native) Selecting from those 50 In-Memory Tables (And insert to In-Memory table that save the validation errors if exists on In-Memory table).
At the end of this process we clean the table from the data that relavnt to etch prosses(DELETE FROM WHERE)
B.T.W
No UPDATE STAT on In-Memory are used-when we test the prosses it slow as down and cause some locks.
We are calling this process from ADO.Net, loads stored procedure first and then validations, each SP use different SQL Connection. In normal use, everything works fine and takes about 1.5 second.
Under stress test (6 Clients X 100 Tasks) for 30 minutes. After several minutes we are starting to get this SQL Exception (1 SQL Exception for every 20 tasks):
41301. A previous transaction that the current transaction took a dependency on has aborted, and the current transaction can no longer commit.
Transactions in Memory-Optimized Tables
The Exception is not clear. We are not using BEGIN TRANSACTION in the process. The SQL Exception occurs in different stored procedures each time.
Hi,
I have a program in C# that I used to run on Visual Studio 2000 and SQL Server 2000 without any problem.
Now I upgrade to VS2005 and SQL Server 2005 and get and exception while
insert via SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery(). the insert is after many inserts to the same table by that program. the CommandTimeout is set to 600 (in the 2000 version I never had to change the default value of 30 seconds).
the insert is through a connection that is kept open throughout the program for more than 30 minutes
the exception message is:
Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
the trace is:

Thanks for your help !
Hello,
Wondering if anyone can help with a strange exception thrown while using the SqlBulkCopy class. I am using the class to transfer records from a DataTable in memory (approx 11,000 rows) into a SQL Server 2005 table.
Initially, the WriteToServer method was timing out a la KB913177 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/913177), however I downloaded the hotfix, which eliminated this issue.
Now, I get a new exception thrown, as follows:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: OLE DB provider 'STREAM' for linked server '(null)' returned invalid data for column '[!BulkInsert].Power_Avg'.
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)
at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj)
at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStream, BulkCopySimpleResultSet bulkCopyHandler, TdsParserStateObject stateObj)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlBulkCopy.WriteToServerInternal()
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlBulkCopy.WriteRowSourceToServer(Int32 columnCount)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlBulkCopy.WriteToServer(DataTable table, DataRowState rowState)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlBulkCopy.WriteToServer(DataTable table)
I can't see anything wrong with the data I have. The column "Power_Avg" is of type "float". When forming the DataTable, I cast my data to float expcilitly in C#.
Other things to know:
I am using SQL Server Express (2005)
This same code works fine with SQL Server 2000 (MSDE)
My code makes all modifications inside a single transaction of type "Snapshot" (I have activated SNAPSHOT READ COMMITTED in the database)
I have not activated MARS in the connection
Any ideas / suggestions?
Thanks,
Nick
Hi,I have a SqlConnection object with connection string, "Data Source=server1;Initial Catalog=CDCollection;User Id=joe;Password=11111."For User ID, I created a new user "joe" in the Management Studio.I tried to use this user, but sqlconnection threw an exception stating access was denied.I noticed that SQL Server 2005 has user accounts that you can create for the server and for the database, but I am confused by this. How can a create a non-sa user account that I can give to the SQLConnection object that will work? Do I need to create a user for the server and the same user for the database CDCollection? I am not all familiar with SQL Server administration.Any help or leads would be appreciated.

View 2 Replies View RelatedGreetings everyone, I am attempting to build my first application using Microsofts Sql databases. It is a Windows Mobile application so I am using Sql Server Compact 3.5 with Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2. When I try and insert a new row into one of my tables, the app throws the error message shown in the title of this topic.
'((System.Exception)($exception)).Message' threw an exception of type 'System.NotSupportedException'
My table has 4 columns (i have since changed my FavoriteAccount datatype from bit to Integer)
http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k71/Scionwest/table.jpg
Account type will either be "Checking" or "Savings" when a new row is added, the user will select what they want from a combo box.
Next is a snap shot of my startup form.
http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k71/Scionwest/form.jpg
Where it says "Favorite Account: None" in the top panel, I am using a link label. When a user clicks "None" it will go to a account creation wizard, and set the first account as it's primary/favorite. As more accounts are added the user can select which will be his/her primary/favorite. For now I am just creating a sample account when the label is clicked in an attempt to get something working. Below is the code used.
private void lnkFavoriteAccount_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
FinancesDataSet.BankAccountRow account = this.financesDataSet.BankAccount.NewBankAccountRow();
account.Name = "MyBank Checking Account";
account.AccountType = "Checking";
account.Balance = Convert.ToDecimal("15.03");
account.FavoriteAccount = 1;//datatype is an integer, I have changed it since I took the screenshot.
financesDataSet.BankAccount.Rows.Add(account);
//The next three lines where added while I was trying to get this to work.
//I don't know if I really need them or not, I receive the error regardless if these are here or not.
this.bankAccountTableAdapter1.Update(financesDataSet);
this.financesDataSet.AcceptChanges();
refreshDatabase();
}
the refreshDatabase() code is here:
private void refreshDatabase()
{
this.bankAccountTableAdapter1.Fill(this.financesDataSet.BankAccount);
//Aquire a count of accounts the user has
int numAccounts = financesDataSet.BankAccount.Count;
//Loop through each account and see which one is the primary.
for (int num = 0; num != numAccounts; num++)
{
//Works ok in frmMain_Load, but when my lnkFavoriteAccount_click calls this, it throws the error.
if (this.financesDataSet.BankAccount[num].FavoriteAccount == 1)
{
//Display the primary account on our home page. User can click the link label & be taken to their account register.
this.lnkFavoriteAccount.Text = this.financesDataSet.BankAccount[num].Name.ToString();
this.lnkFavoriteFunds.Text = this.financesDataSet.BankAccount[num].Balance.ToString();
break;
}
}
}
and my form_load code
private void frmMain_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
refreshDatabase();
}
So, when I click on the lnkFavoriteAccount label, and my new row gets added, the app stops at the following line in my DataSet.Designer
[global:ystem.Diagnostics.DebuggerNonUserCodeAttribute()]
public byte FavoriteAccount {
get {
try {
return ((byte)(this[this.tableBankAccount.FavoriteAccountColumn]));
}
catch (global:ystem.InvalidCastException e) {
//Stops at the following line, this error was caused by 'if (this.financesDataSet.BankAccount[num].FavoriteAccount == 1)'
throw new global:ystem.Data.StrongTypingException("The value for column 'FavoriteAccount' in table 'BankAccount' is DBNull.", e);
}
}
set {
this[this.tableBankAccount.FavoriteAccountColumn] = value;
}
}
I have no idea what I am doing wrong, all of the code I used I retreived from Microsofts help documentation included with VS2008. I have tried used my TableAdapter.Insert() method and it still failed when it got to
if (this.financesDataSet.BankAccount[num].FavoriteAccount == 1)
in my refreshDatabase() method it still failed.
When I look, the data has been added into the database, it's just when I try to retreive it now, it bails on me. Am I retreiving the information wrong?
Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

Hi,
I got an strange problem with one of my packages.
When running the package in VisualStudio it runs properly, but if I let this package run as part of an SQL-Server Agent job, I got the message "The script threw an exception: Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown." on my log and the package ends up with an error.
Both times it is exactly the same package on the same server, so I don't know how the debug or even if there is anything I need to debug?

Hi to all.I'm trying to transact from an ASP.NET application in a machine with an SQL Server 2005 placed in a different machine. I can connect without problems from my application to the database, but the problems are when I need to transact with it. The error message I receive is "Network access for Distributed Transaction Manager (MSDTC) has been disabled. Please enable DTC for network access in the security configuration for MSDTC using the Component Services Administrative tool." (at code I'm using the TransacionScope object).On the first machine, where we have the Visual Studio 2005 and the application web environtment is placed, is an standard Windows XP Professional. On the MSDTC configuration I have checked outgoing and the firewall is down. On the second machine, where is placed my SQL Server 2005, I have all the checkboxs checked at the MSDTC Configuration, and I have the Windows Firewall enabled with the SQL Server and the MSDTC as exceptions, with the ports 1433 and 135 as exceptions too. At the SQL Server Configuration Manager I have as enabled the TCP/IP, the Named Pipes and Shared Memory at Protocols for MSSQLSERVER.When I'm using an SQL Server 2000 database the code works fine and I don't have problems.Any one can help me?Thanks in advance.Jesús

Hello,
We are maintaining an internal ASP.NET v2.0 website which is quite big and already in production. The underlying SQL Server 2005 database contains 350+ tables.
Recently, we have been asked to implement a new feature which seems functionally quite simple. We have to track every single data modification, which includes insertions, deletions and modifications. This information should be presented to power users in the form of readable strings right in an admin section of our website.
Our team of architects is working on a way to make it possible without putting the SQL Server to a crawl. One thing is for sure, SQL Server 2005 already does the job through its transaction log. It should be a good idea to use it directly instead of managing our own log based on triggers. Why put more pressure on the server to write data that is already logged by the database engine? We have heard that Microsoft's SQL Server team do not support this concept and are wondering why...
It's quite easy to find queries on the web that output very useful information such as date of transactions and what they have done. Although, the data involved in those transactions seems to be stored in a binary field which can be retrived using this query: SELECT "log record" FROM ::fn_dblog(null,null)
3rd parties such as Apex SQL are already doing a great job at decrypting it for us. This is very useful but not efficient since those tools do a very generic job. We would like to optimize it for our needs. All we need to know is who made the modifications, when, in which tables and what are the new values.
We believe that we would have to decrypt the "log record" field from the ::fn_dblog(null, null) table. Is there any way to get basic documentation about how to do it?
Thanks!

Hi,I have 2 stored procedure 1st insert the data in parent tables and return the Id. and second insert child table data using that parent table id as paramenter. I have foreign key relationship between these two tables also.my data layer methods somewhat looks likepublic void Save(order value){using (TransactionScope transactionScope = new TransactionScope(TransactionScopeOption.Required)) { int orderId = SaveOrderMaster(value); value.OrderId = orderid; int childId = SaveOrderDetails(value); //complete the transaction transactionScope.Complete(); }}here 1. SaveOrderMaster() calls an stored procedure InserOrderData which insert a new record in order table and return the orderId which is identity column in Order table.2. SaveOrderDetails() call another sotored procedure which insert order details in to table "orderdetail" using the foreign key "orderid".My Problem:Some time the above method works correctly but when i call it repeatledly (in a loop) with data, some time it gives me foreign key error which state that orderid is not existsin table Order. This will happen only randomly. I am not able to figureout the reason. does some one face the same problem. if yes, what could be the reason and/or solution.

Hello,
I need to execute a stored procedure from the data layer, that uses a transaction. And I have to override the default transaction timeout for this traansaction
I know how to change the transaction timeout form Management Studio, but I need to be able to change it only for that specific transaction (from the stored procedure's code or from the data layer)
Thanks in advance

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am creating a report in VS 2005 SP1 (all updates applied) on a Windows 2003 Server with 8GB of RAM. When I preview the report (about 120,000 records) it locks up my machine for about 5 minutes and then gives an error:
An error occurred during local report processing.
An error has occurred during report processing.
Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.
This report has a somewhat complex query, but when I deploy the report to the server (Reporting Services 2005) it runs fine. I just hate to deploy the report each time I want to preview it. Is there a setting for VS that I can change to increase memory? Or is there something else I need to check?
Thank you for any assistance!
Bill
We have two SQL Server 2005 production DB at remote sites. Due to network bandwidth issue, we need to replicate these DBs (publishers and distributers) to central corporate SQL 2000 DB (subscriber for backup and possible reporting (and in rare case as a failover server).
We would start out with backup from SQL 2000 db restored on remote SQL 2005 DBs. When we have DB issue on remote 2005 DB, we want to restore it from central corp. 2000 DB backup. Since two DBs are replicating to central DB, we DO NOT want combined db back up data on restored remote 2005 db. We can restore the db and delete unwanted data before we turn on replication from this restored server. So, this is not a problem.
The real problem is how to avoid snapshot replication (during initialization) when we create a transaction replication on this restored server to avoid over writing data on the central subcriber sql 2000 DB???
HELP!!
We are using SQL Server 2005 (SP1). I have created a maintenance plan that backs up up the datebase every night. The problem is that the transaction log is continuing to grow. I have been told that a full backup will automatically truncate and shrink the transaction log. However, this is not happening. How can I truncate and shrink the transaction log after a full backup as part of our maintenance plan. Thank you.
View 29 Replies View RelatedI have some code that should execute multiple statements and then commit. I am using the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver 1.1.
The statements only commit ifI close the connection to the SQL Server 2005 instance. I've looked at the example given at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms378931.aspx and it doesn't require closing the connection in order to commit.
Example:
public void doCall(Connection con) {
try {
/*Turn off AutoCommit.*/
con.setAutoCommit(false);
/**Call Two Stored Procedures.*/
Statement stmt = con.preapareCall(/*Java Code*/);
stmt.setObject(/*Java Code*/);
stmt.execute();
Statement stmts = con.preapareCall(/*Java Code*/);
stmt2.setObject(/*Java Code*/);
stmt2.execute();
/**Commit the transaction.*/
con.commit();
}
catch (SQLException ex) { //If some error occurs handle it.
ex.printStackTrace();
try {
con.rollback();
}
catch (SQLException se) {
se.printStackTrace();
}
}
}
My transaction never commits, and when I try to query the associated database tables in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 2005 my query hangs.
Hi All,

Hi,
I have database with unlimited growth in Data with 2MB growth and Log File with 1MB growth. The continuous data is inserted with min 20KB per minute. We struct with following error and Log file size is too large (85GB) than Data file(20GB). Now server is not allowing to take backup as diskspace is not available.
Msg 9002, Level 17, State 2, Procedure DumpData, Line 10
The transaction log for database '%DB' is full. To find out why space in the log cannot be reused, see the log_reuse_wait_desc column in sys.databases
status at SYS.DATABASES:
log_reuse_wait log_reuse_wait_desc

2 LOG_BACKUP
Please help me to resolved the issue and let me know hints to shrink LOG file. Data inserted are using ADO applications that uses some insert/select stored procedures that does not have begin transaction-Commit Transaction block as appliction issues the Commit over connection object.

Hi all,I am trying to setup a VB.Net development environment on my desktop for one of the application which was already in the production for couple of years (some unknown contractor(s) developed and maintained it so far). The application works fine on the web.Visual Studio 2005, .Net 2.0, SQL 2000, SQL Server 2005 were installed on my desktop. When I try to build the entire application/solution in the debug mode (i.e., with http://localhost/), build succeeds and I could get to the login.aspx. When I try to login, I am getting an error in the Visual Studio at the following code;connection = New SqlConnection(connectionString)
connection.Open()
saying "Communication with the underlying transaction manager has failed", "System.Transactions.TransactionManagerCommunicationException was unhandled by user code". And the web browser displays the following error "Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component". When I try to connect the SQL Server 2005 with the same ConnectionString attributes by going to Tools>Connect to Database, it works fine. But, through application connection.Open() giving above errors. I have set the MSDTC properties (i.e., under Component Services>MyComputer Properties>Security Configuration) as below:-Enabled Network DTC Access, Allow Remote Clients, Allow Remote Administration, Allow Inbound, Allow Outbound, No Authentication required - selected, Enabled XA Transactions...& DTC Logon Account is "NT AUTHORITYNetworkService".Please help.Thanks in advance,Chandra

I have Full database backup upto previous day and transaction logfile of Today transaction. my database has crashed. I have restored previous day's Full backup. I have faced difficulty to restore today's transaction from today's transaction log. What are the steps to restore full database back and one day's transaction log file. Note: there is no differential database backup and transaction backup.

I'm getting this when executing the code below. Going from W2K/SQL2k SP4 to XP/SQL2k SP4 over a dial-up link.
If I take away the begin tran and commit it works, but of course, if one statement fails I want a rollback. I'm executing this from a Delphi app, but I get the same from Qry Analyser.
I've tried both with and without the Set XACT . . ., and also tried with Set Implicit_Transactions off.

HI all,
if this issue has been solved, please provide me the post, or I've put this issue in a wrong category please let me know.
The following is my code:
DateTime dtBFWNow = DateTime.Today;
String dtBFW_range1 = dtBFWNow.AddDays(-7).ToShortDateString();
String dtBFW_range2 = dtBFWNow.AddDays(3).ToShortDateString();
SqlDataSource1.SelectCommand = "SELECT * FROM [MORTGAGE] WHERE ([BringForwardDate] is not null) and ([BringForwardDate]>= '" + dtBFW_range1 + "' and [BringForwardDate] <= '" + dtBFW_range2 + "')";
lblHeader.Text = "Bring Forward Reminders Due From '" + dtBFW_range1 + "' To '" + dtBFW_range2 + "'";
lblHeader.ForeColor = System.Drawing.Color.FromName("#000000");
GridView1.DataBind();
When I compiled, the following exception occurred:
The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value.
and the exception points right at the line: GridView1.DataBind()
I use the webhost4life as my server provider. My codes run fine with the server. I mean I uploaded my program to the server, set up and run the program online, everything is fine.
But on my PC it gives me the above exception. I can't compile my code. There must be some sort of setting somewhere in my PC that can't handle the exception.
Please help.

I have a design a SSIS Package for ETL Process. In my package i have to read the data from the tables and then insert into the another table of same structure.
for reading the data i have write the Dynamic TSQL based on some condition and based on that it is using 25 different function to populate the data into different 25 column. Tsql returning correct data and is working fine in Enterprise manager. But in my SSIS package it show me time out ERROR.
I have increase and decrease the time to catch the error but it is still there i have tried to set 0 for commandout Properties.
if i'm using the 0 for commandtime out then i'm getting the Distributed transaction completed. Either enlist this session in a new transaction or the NULL transaction.
and
Failed to open a fastload rowset for "[dbo].[P@@#$%$%%%]". Check that the object exists in the database.
Please help me it's very urgent.
I am trying to handle exceptions using try catch with remote database.
I am writing the following code which works fine if login locally but when I am trying to do the same on linked server its not being caught in try..catch block.
The procedure I am writing to raiserror
create proc CustomError
as
RAISERROR ('db error', 16, 1);
I am calling the above procedure in local database using following code
BEGIN TRY
exec CustomError
END TRY
BEGIN CATCH
select ERROR_MESSAGE() as ERROR_MESSAGE;
END CATCH;
GO
and it works perfectly. I am able to catch the error in catch block.
and i m getting the following result
db error
but when i am trying to do the same on linked server the code doesn't take me to catch block. I am getting following error while executing the code
go
BEGIN TRY
exec [192.168.0.50].[BM].dbo.CustomError
END TRY
BEGIN CATCH
select ERROR_MESSAGE();
END CATCH;
GO
where [192.168.0.50] is a linked server name and BM is the database name and custom error is my sp which is on remote server.
its giving me following error
Msg 50000, Level 16, State 1, Procedure CustomError, Line 11
db error
I'm creating a class that will wrap a SqlException and will offer the developer a way of determining how to proceed in handling the exception by offering a suggestion of retrying, revalidating the data, and/or calling the entire process a no go.
One of the ways i've come up with to accomplish this is by using the severity (SqlException.Class) to assist in making a suggestion to the developer.
I'm hoping to get some feedback from the developers who use this forum if they feel severity is or is not the way to go, and also to offer any other ways of accomplishing that they can come up with.
Thanx

Hi,
I have a website where the user uploads DBF files and then i am calling a sproc to scrub the data and put them from the staging database to the production database. If the folder size small may be less that 6 it transfers the data from the staging database to the production.. But if the size of the folder is big.. more the 6 mb i get an timeout exception.. But i know the data is been put in few tables in the production databse..
for eg... if the size of the file is 33mb it takes around 15 mins or so for the sproc to process . I have tried setting the connect and commd timeout whcih has not helped.. I tried increasing the server.script time and it fails too..
this is the error in my event viewer
Error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
