SQL Server 2005 And 2008 X64 (installation Issues)

May 28, 2008

Hello evryone
The reason I am touching base is to get some informatyion about the SQL server x64 installation process.
I am working on windows vista x64 and have installed the visual web developer 2008 as well as visual C# 2008 which they both are working properly .
As of lateI was trying to add a SQL database to my web that I encounter an error message to have to install the SQL server 2005 express edition.
I tried the available version ,however the firsrt attempt git failed since I got the wrong link which was for x32 . Again I took the x64 version available at : http://www.microsoft.com/express/sql/download/default.aspx at the most bottom of the page within the Register portion. this time I faced with error message poped as : " SQL server Native Client can not be found try installation later with a valid copy of this file."
inevatably I took the SQL server 2008 express edition thread at : http://www.microsoft.com/express/sp1/download/,
howeve in this attempt I can not figure out a credential account no. and password ;whatever I try can not get me pass to the next step.
I need your help to get through my project which I am at the end of it .
yours,
Hamed.

When I ran the surface area configuration for services and connections, I msgbox came out and told me "No sql server 2005 components were found on the specified computer.....". Why?
Thanks.

SQL Server 2008 Installation - Server Configuration Problem

May 18, 2008

I have got problems with installation of a default instance on SQL Server 2008 on Vista Home Premium. During the step of Server Configuration you should enter UserName and password for each service. I do not know what user name to type. I tried every possible combination but the outcome is always the same - after typing usernames and passwords, installation suddenly fails without casting any exception. I'm not sure if I do something wrong (wrong User Name or Password) or is it a problem with installation application or with OS. Please, help.

New SQL Server 2005 Installation

Mar 21, 2008

Unfortunately for me, I am not a DBA - even though I have always filled that role where ever I have been. That being said, I have always been fortunate enough to have someone else more knowledgeable than I to perform the initial build of the SQL Servers I have used and managed. So, I have the following question...

I just finished installing and configuring a new dedicated SQL Server (it is nice too). One of the included discs it he MSDN Library. Do I need to install that too? Is there any reason to or not to install it? I would appreciate any feedback.

Sql Server 2005 Installation

Sep 24, 2007

Hi,
SQL Server 2005 has been installed on windows server 2003 machine by the support team.
Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 9.00.3042.00
Now this machine has been passed on to me to create databases, tables, etc...
On this server, I open the management studio and I get the connect to server windows.
What should the entries in the connect to server window be for me to get to the next stage where I can start building databases.
At present, I tried local or localhost and windows/sql authentication.
Still can not get to the management studio window.
Any thoughts please?
Thanks

MS SQL SERVER 2005 INSTALLATION

Oct 15, 2007

Hi,

I'm trying to re-install the ms sql server 2005 but I keep getting the following message:

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup
------------------------------
SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service for server configuration. The error was: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]SSL Provider: The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.
Refer to server error logs and setup logs for more information. For details on how to view setup logs, see "How to View Setup Log Files" in SQL Server Books Online.
------------------------------

This is my second time installing the ms sql server. I couldn't create a new database connection using odbc, I constantly got error messages so i decided to install it with windows and sql authentication (earlier i installed it only with windows authentication).

But I can't complete my installation.

Can some please help me with this.

Thank you!!

New SQL Server 2005 Installation

Oct 2, 2006

I have just purchased SQL Server 2005 and a new Dell 2800 server to run it on. I was told by my Dell rep to configure the server with the following drives. 2 - 36GB drives in a RAID 0 (15,000 RPM), 2 - 73GB drives in a RAID 0 (10,000 RPM) and 3 - 146GB drives in a RAID 5 (10,000 RPM). Dell pre-installed the OS on the 36GB drive. I was told to install SQL on the 73GB drives and the data (primarily TIFF images) on the 146GB. The server is a 64bit machine with Windows 2003 Server and 4GB of RAM. I was told to put the transaction logs on a different physical drive that the database to speed the writes. Is this a correct installation? Is there any information on a best practice installation? I have spent about 6 hours on MS and Google trying to find an answer. Thanks for any help you can give. Recap of Dell recommendation:

2 - 36GB Mirrored Drives = OS
2 - 73BG Mirrored Drives = SQL Server 2005
3 - 146GB RAID 5 Drives = Data (Images)

Is this correct?
Where should the Transaction Logs Be?

Sql Server 2005 (business Intelligence Development Suite ) Problem Installing Sql 2005 On Vista (vs 2008)

May 7, 2008

I installed sql server 2005 sp2 including business intelligence development suite , however I got a message
some client components not compablitable .This morning I searched my programs and found that I have new
visual studio 2005 on my computer (before I just had vs 2008) as well as business intelligence
developer (which does not work) It seems I I would like to get rid of vs 2005 also
fix business intelligence studio . Previously I deleted vs 2005 express off my computer........(I have vista
and I would only like to keep tools meant for sql standard 2005 reporting services etc
here is a list of my sql sp2 install package
By the way I doubled clicked sql_tools.msi and did not run as administrator
Does that make a difference? I wonder if this is a problem with vs 2008 and sql 2005......

SQL Server 2005 SP1 Installation Woes!

Jun 15, 2006

I am having problems installing SP1 successfully. So far I've tried it on two separate Windows 2003 server boxes running SQL Server 2005 Standard v9.0.1399.

The first upgraded successfully all over services except the SQL server itself. Reporting services then failed due to database version mismatch but that was easily fixed. The other box doesn't have anything other than SQL2005 and components were upgraded but the database upgrade failed. I got the generic "send this error to microsoft" message.

I've tried other suggested fixes on this board but none have worked so far.

The Logfile seems to go haywire at about this point:

Repair An SQL Server 2005 Installation.

May 11, 2007

Hi,

Some part of my system registry seens corrupted, and I can not run the report services configuration tool, it gave me the following error:

0x80010002: RCP_E_CALL_CANCELED

1) Does a repair of the installation will register back the COM Servers?

2) After a repair does the report services encription key will be affected.

My main problem is to perform a backup of the report services encription key on a server that is not very stable.

3) Is there another way to backup the encription key without using the report services configuration tool?

Thanks

JF

How To Set And Use SQL Server Express 2005 After Installation?

Feb 27, 2007

I have never used SQL Server, except that I did use MS Access, so after I downloading and installing the SQL Server Express 2005 ... I really do not know how to make it works!

1. Let say I would like to create a table at my local computer (1st) as a Server, how I do it (configuration)?

2. Then I have a second PC, as a client how I link to that table?

Might be they are 2 silly questions, but I would like to try out the new SQL Server Express and compare what are the better features with MS Access!

Thanks to any help
