Can't Connect .Net Application From Windows Server 2003 To Database Server (SQL Server 2000)

Apr 3, 2008

Hi,
I am having a problem connecting my .net applications from the application server to the database server. When I run the application from my windows xp (sp2) box it works fine. When I try to connect via SQL Management Studio to the database server from the application server I get the same error.
Here is the error:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.  When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
 Here is the Environment:
App Server:
Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
Inside Company's Firewall/ Network
Database Server:
Windows Server 2000 Advanced Edition
SQL Server 2000 SP4
Remote Connections to the Server is checked
Enable Protocols: Named Pipes & TCP/IP
TCP/IP Port: 1402 (I don't know why it isn't the default of 1433)
The db server is sitting out side the Company's firewall (don't ask me why). I can access it fine from inside the firewall on my XP box but not from windows server 2003. There is a web server outside the our network that also connects to the db server with no problem and that is running Windows Server 2003 Web Edition.
I can ping the db server from the app server using the IP address.
I tried using the IP address and the port 1402 in my connection string but that didn't work from any machine (XP and Server).
I imagine the issue is somehow related to the company's firewall but why would it only block Windows Server 2003 and not XP?
What do I tell the network admin to change?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Oran

Unable To Connect To SQL Server 2005 (error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

Jun 5, 2007

I've installed SQL2005 on a server already running SQL2K on my laptop. SQL2K is the default instance, so I'm trying to connect to SQL2005 using MYSERVERSQL2005 as the instance.

The steps that I've taken are to apply SP2 and enable remote connections (TCP & Named pipes). I've also made sure the SQL Server Browser service is running and enabled.

The error message that I get via SQL2005 client tools is "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1)"

I dont understand as to why i am unable to connect to 2005.

Any ideas?

Cannot Connect To 2000 From 2005 Via Linked Server

Dec 29, 2006

Interesting issue.. I think

I have 2 linked servers on my dev 2005 instance (sp1-win 2003). My 2005 instance shares the physical server with a 2000 instance. This linked server works fine. The second linked server is on a separate server running sql 2000 sp3. I cannot connect to this server at all. I can connect the other way -- from the 2000 to the 2005. I have tried all kinds of combinations of security and options but nothing works. The only resolutions I have found referenced installing Management Studio on the 2000 server or creating an ODBC connection from the 2005 instance. Any ideas???

Here is the error I get:

OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "ALLFLDB6" returned message "Login timeout expired".

OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "ALLFLDB6" returned message "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.".

Msg 10061, Level 16, State 1, Line 0

TCP Provider: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio - Opening SQL-File From Explorer Does Not Connect Automaticly To Server/database

Apr 25, 2008

hello,

I have a question about opening files in the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio.

In the old Query Analyzer from SQL 2000 I can open SQL Files via drag & drop (from explorer to QA) or open it with a double click in the explorer. Then the Files opened, if I had actual a connection to a server / database (QA is stared with one file and has a connection to Server/Datebase), with this connection.

Now in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio I'll be asked everytime for Server and have to get the database from the database list - it does not connect automaticly to server/database, that is actual connected (I have opened a file with the connection and a connected database in the object explorer).

Someone do not have this problem - but we found no option to set it up.

Any ideas?

thanks &
best regards,
Christian Kiedels

Problem Occurs When Migrating A SQL Server 2000 Database To A SQL Server 2005 Server

Sep 20, 2006

When I try to migrate a database on a SQL Server 2000 server to a SQL Server 2005 server with the Copy Database Wizard of the SQL Server Management Studio, I'm confronted with the following problem;

Performing operation...

- Add log for package (Success)
- Add task for transferring database objects (Success)
- Create package (Success)
- Start SQL Server Agent Job (Success)
- Execute SQL Server Agent Job (Error)
Messages
* The job failed. Check the event log on the destination server for details. (Copy Database Wizard)

When I take a look at 'Event viewer' on the SQL 2005 server, the following error is displayed;

InnerException-->An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.
When connecting to SQL Server 2005,
this failure may be caused by the fact
that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
(provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

I already enabled the MSSQLSERVER network configuration protocols (TCP/IP and Named Pipes ).

How do I solve this problem?

Can't Connect To Sql Server 2005 Database Using Vb 2005 Express

Nov 21, 2006

I've used Sql Server 2000 and Visual Studio 2003 for a few years. I've started a new position and they have access to Sql Server 2005 Standard and Visual Basic 2005 Express which I'd like to use for a new project. So I installed Sql Server 2005 and then VB 2005 Express on my workstation. I didn't choose the Sql Server option for VB Express because I already had Sql Server 2005 Standard installed with a simple database created. I created a simple vb project that justs connects to the database but I get the following error.

Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0000, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.
I looked at permissions in the database and it looks ok. I'm the db owner and I'm using Windows Auth. My connection string is

"Data Source=MySystem;initial catalog=AdventureWorks;integrated security=true;"

I thought I'd look at the starter kit to get some ideas about what the problem is, but when I started the movie starter kit project, it was upset that I didn't have Sql Server 2005 EXPRESS installed. Yea, but I do have Sql Server 2005 Standard installed.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Using Java To Connect A Sql Server 2005 Database.

Aug 6, 2007

Hi, guys. It's the first time I connect a database.

My OS is windows XP.

I downloaded the sqljdbc on microsoft website and unzipped it.
Copy the sqljdbc_1.1 to the directory C:Program Files.

Modified the system variables:
classpath=.;%JAVA_HOME%libdt.jar;%JAVA_HOME%lib ools.jar;
%ProgramFiles%sqljdbc_1.1chssqljdbc.jar
JAVA_HOME=D:Program FilesJavajdk1.5.0_10
ProgramFiles=C:Program Files

I installed the sqlserver 2005and created a sqlserver db engine with windows authentification by default.

Using the management studio I created a database named BudgetAuthorization.
After that I created a user:
CREATE LOGIN aaron792 WITH PASSWORD='12345'
USE BudgetAuthorization
CREATE USER aaron792

Now I want to write a java application to access the database.
The application and the database are on the same computer.

I started the TCP/IP service, using the configuration manager.

Then use the eclipse to write the java application:

import java.sql.*;
public class TestJDBC
{
public static void main(String[] srg)
{
String driverName
= "com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver"; // Start JDBC
String dbURL = "jdbcqlserver://localhost:1433;
DatabaseName=BudgetAuthorization"; // Connect the server and the database
//String userName = "Administrator"; // windows user
//String userPwd = "password"; // windows login password
String userName="aaron792";
String userPwd="12345";
Connection dbConn;
try
{
Class.forName(driverName);
dbConn = DriverManager.getConnection(dbURL,userName,userPwd);
System.out.println("Connection Successful!");
// if successful print Connection Successful!
}
catch (Exception e)
{
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
}

But it cann't be done!
The error information is:
Login failed for user 'aaron792'. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.

I also tried the windows user, still failed.
What's wrong? Can anyone help?
Many thanks!

Help - Cannot Connect To Remote SQL Server 2005 Database

Feb 2, 2008

I have created a ASP.NET application on a development server that accesses a SQL Server 2005 database on the same server. This application runs flawless. However when I try to connect the same application to an identical database on a remote SQL Server database I get the following error " Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection." I actually backed up the database on the development server, and then restored the same database on the remote server. I can see the original ASPNET user account in the security tab of the restored database. However I cannot connect. The remote server has ASP.NET 2.0 installed. I have created a security database on the remote server (aspnetdb) and added the same login credentials as on the development server. I have changed the database connection strings in the web.config file to point to a: to the remote database only, and b: to both the remote database and the remote security database (aspnetdb).

I am at a loss, can anyone help.

No More Able To Connect To My SQL Server 2005 Database Engine

Mar 12, 2007

Hello,
I have installed SQL Server 2005 in my PC and during the installation I
have created a predefined instance (I have used Windows autentication).
I could use correctly SQL Server till some days ago, when I changed the
password of my PC login profile.
Now, when I open SQL Server, if I click on the "Connect" button,
the following error message appears (I translate it from italian version)

Unable to connect to "CARLO"
Further information:
An error has occurred while you were trying to establish a connection to
the server. When you connect to SQL Server 2005, this error can be generated
because SQL Server doesn't allow remote connections under the predefined
settings. (provider: Provider Named Pipes, error: 40 - Unable to open a
connection to SQL Server) (Micorsoft SQL Server, error:2)

I'm sure that the error raises because I have changed my PC access
password (the program worked correctly before), but in the "Connect to
Server" window the user name and the password text boxes are disabled, so
I can't insert the new password...
Can you suggest what have I to do?

Thank you very much

HELP!! Cannot Connect To SQL Server 2005 Developer Database Engine

Oct 19, 2007

OK.

I'm using Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition and I installed it under "Local System" on Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate.

I understand that there are issues of course that occur with this, however I can't seem to understand why what I'm doing isn't working. I'm not using this on any server, just to test out ASP.NET 2.0 applications - nothing more.

I'm getting this error:

TITLE: Connect to Server
------------------------------

Cannot connect to RUSSPC.

------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2)

For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=2&LinkId=20476

------------------------------
BUTTONS:

OK
------------------------------

I've installed this via a mixed authentication (as suggested by www.wrox.com).

I tried enabling the TCP/IP and named pipe connections, just as previous people have done, but it hasn't worked. Nor has enabling the SQL Browser.

I'm really at a loss on what to do.

Getting Error When I Try To Connect Oracle 10g (32bit) From MS SQL Server 2005 (64bit)

Apr 29, 2008

We have recently migrated from SQL 2000 (32bit) to SQL 2005 on Win2003 (both are 64bit). And we have Legacy DTS packages on SQL 2005, some packages are pulling records from Oracle 10g (32bit server). When I execute the DTS package I am getting following error.

Error = -2147467259 (80004005) Error string: Oracle client and networking components were not found. These components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3 or later client software installation. Provider is unable to function until these components are installed. Error source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle

Did I need to install/update any MS OLE DB driver for Orace.
Some blogs & forums suggesting to install Oracle 10g Client. If so Which version of Oracle client(32bit/64bit) I have to install?.

Thanks.
