Running SQL 2005 Database On 80 Compatibility Mode And DTS Import

Mar 11, 2008

Hi,

We are planning to upgrage our SS 2000 databases(couple of hundreds) to SS 2005.

To minimise the potential work arounds, it is agreed to have complex databases, continue running on compatibility mode 80. What are the potential impact of having database on mode 80(apart from not being able to use new feature)on SS2005?

Fruther how we can we import SS 2000 DTSs to SS 2005 SSIS in an cluster environment?

Thanks,
Sajish

Log Shipping From 2005 In 2000 Compatibility Mode --&&> 2000 Can I Do This?

Dec 18, 2007

I am in the process of migrating from Sql Server 2000 to 2005. Part of my plan is to move some database's to 2005, but use the 2000 compatibility mode for the short term. My issue is this, our DR boxes are still on SQL Server 2000, would I still be able to use our log shipping processes? Or would I be better off in starting with migrating the DR boxes to 2005 first?

Thanks in advance.

Db Maintenance Plans On SQL 2005 And Dbs In 2000 Compatibility Mode

Nov 15, 2007

Hi All

I€™m having a problem setting up maintenance plans on one of our SQL 2005 servers but first here€™s a bit of back ground.

The server is a Virtual machine running win2k3R2 SP2 server std and SQL 2k5, A supplier arrived to install and app on the server when discovering there app didn€™t work with 2k5 they seem to have set the 2 dbs on the server into 2k compatibility mode and set the entire SQL install to think its a 2000 install. (I€™m not sure how this is done all I can see is the wrong version number in management studio) The problem this is giving me it that the folder in management studio for Database Maintenance Plans is no longer under the management folder instead it under a sub folder called Legacy (which is how management studio seems to deal with all registered 2000 instances) and as such a can no longer right click and create new database maintenance plans is there any way around this or will I have to setup my backup job manually?

Ohh and have the supplier shot at dawn

Thanks All

Compatibility Of SQL Express Reporting Services With SQL 2000 Reporting Services

Dec 6, 2006

I'm attempting to obtain a cost effective solution for my existing customers to develop reports on their SQL 2000 Server installations using their Reporting Services 2000. With products like Visual Basic.NET 2003 becoming almost impossible to obtain, I have at least one customer who is running into a dead end.

One option possibly is the SQL Express with Advanced Services download, which has Reporting Services. My questions are as follows:

Can the report designer component of SQL Express Reporting Services be configured to connect to an external database (which would happen to be a SQL 2000 database) to establish its datasets?
Does the resultant designed report end up in an RDL file? If the customer published this report via the Reporting Services 2000 Report Manager, would the report be able to run?

Sorry for asking a question like this that I could probably answer on my own, but my customer needed this answer yesterday. I have scoured the web and microsoft sites - and posted a question on the official SQL Reporting Services cateogy ... in an attempt to answer the basic question of how to design reports for Reporting Services 2000 in the absence of Visual Basic.NET 2003 (or other .NET 2003 tools) with no success.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

An Argument Against Running Or Developing In SQL Compatibility 8.0 Mode

Oct 29, 2007

Hi,

I've been scouring the forums and the web for anything that would substantiate an argument for database application developers to keep developing in SQL 8.0 when we have migrated to SQL 2005.

I read somewhere that compatibility 8.0 mode is an intern stepping stone for migrating from 8 to 9, but it seems 2005 will handle and run compat 8.0 databases just fine.

So am finding it really diffucult to substantiate my argument against running 2005 with all databases in compatibility 8 mode indefinitly.

Any suggestions or links that could help me with this.

Reporting Services :: Running SSRS 2014 Report Viewer In Standard Mode

Jun 4, 2015

Is there any way to get SSRS 2014 report viewer to run in standards mode? We currently host SSRS report viewer in a standards mode IFrame.  Seems to work fine for all browsers but IE8. In IE8, the report detail is missing.

I'm guessing that SSRS Viewer on IE 8 requires Quirks mode.

I noticed this article which states that SSRS 2014 Viewer only works in quirks mode.

Rendering issues with SQL Server Reporting Services reports in Internet Explorer

How do you get the SSRS viewer to run on IE8 in standards mode?

SQL 2005 TempDB In 6.5 Compatibility Mode

Feb 1, 2008

On my current contract we have a SQL 2005 box with a user database and the tempdb database in 6.5 compatibility mode. I would like to remove the user database and change the tempdbs compatibility mode. When you try and use EM just about everything fails with errors about collation or syntax. From what I have found it could be related to the tempdb being in 6.5 compatibility mode but either way I would like to remove this old unused DB.

My question is after I remove the user DB and reset the tempdb compatibility mode what will or could break? I haven't been able to find much on what would change or what to look out for after the change is made. Has anyone else done this? If so what issues did you face.

Thanks

Reports Cannot Be Deployed From VS 2005 To Reporting Services In WSS Integration Mode

Jan 15, 2008

I tried to deploy reports from VS 2005 on Dev to Prod (different domain, in WSS integration mode) , but VS keeps showing the login window ...

I set up TargetDataSourceFolder, TargetReportFolder and TargetServerURL in VS 2005 on my Dev machine as mentioned in MSDN article "Deploying Reports, Models, and Shared Data Sources to a SharePoint Site" and tried to deploy reports to Prod machine. But VS 2005 keeps showing "Report Services Login" window to me, even when I used Administrator account of that Prod machine.

The WSS log file on the Prod machine shows this error: "The file you are attempting to save or retrieve has been blocked from this Web site by the server administrators."

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance! I have searched for days for this issue ...

Integration Services :: Server Not Running SSIS Job In 32bit Mode?

Feb 4, 2015

I have a package that I developed in VS2012 (using the SQL Data Tools component) which collects data from a DBF file using the VFPOLEDB provider, and puts it into a database on a SQL Server 2012 X64 server. The project containing the package has the DebugOption of Run64BitRuntime set to false. I have imported this package to the SSIS Package Store of a test and live server (identical setups). The VFPOLEDB provider is installed on both, and I can see in the registry of both machines that it's there for 32bit runtimes.

The package runs fine on the test machine, but fails on the live machine. The live instance of SQL does not appear to recognize the 32bit VFPOLEDB provider that is installed. The only difference in the instances of SQL is that the live environment has an Integration Service Catalog set up, where as the test does not. Looking at the logs of the servers, when the live starts, it runs sp_ssis_startup, and then logs messages about unsafe assemblies being loaded in. This SP is not run on the test environment because there is no catalog.

The jobs I create have the flag set to use the 32bit runtime, but I feel that the SSIS Catalog is having an issue with the VFPOLEDB I am using, and not loading it.

Migrate From 32bit 2000 Reporting Services To 2005 64bit Reporting Services

Mar 22, 2008

Hello,

I am trying to migrate my reports from SQL server 2000 reporting services 32bit to 2005 64bit. I am following the migration steps that MS specified.
Restored my Reportserver and ReportserverTempDB databases
Then I was using the configure Report services to upgrade these databases but I always end up getting the follwoing exception when I run the upgrade on the "Database Setup" configuration for 'ReportServerTempDB' database
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB'. No entry found with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly.
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)
at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj)
at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStream, BulkCopySimpleResultSet bulkCopyHandler, TdsParserStateObject stateObj)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteNonQueryTds(String methodName, Boolean async)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.InternalExecuteNonQuery(DbAsyncResult result, String methodName, Boolean sendToPipe)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Common.DBUtils.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script)
at ReportServicesConfigUI.SqlClientTools.SqlTools.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script)

It's driving me crazy, why is it looking for 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB' in the catalog instead of 'ReportServerTempDB'?
Is it possible to migrate from 32bit to 64bit?

Any help is appreciated

SQL Reporting Services 2005 And Sql Server 2000 Database

Nov 6, 2007

Hello,
We want the reporting tool to be integrated with visual studio 2005. From my understanding SQL reporting services 2000 can be integrated only with visual studio 2003 (Please correct me if I am wrong) . Hence we have decided to go for SQL reporting services 2005
I understand that SQL reporting services 2005 can be used with SQL server 2000 database. I want to know if SQL reporting services 2005 and SQL server 2000 database are on a single machine, would a single license for SQL server 2000 suffice or should we have a license for sql server 2005 (since we use SQL reporting services 2005) as well.

Many thanks in advance,

Reporting Services 2005 On Windows 2000 Server

Mar 19, 2007

Hi,

I successfully got SQL 2005 Express with reporting services running under VISTA. Developed some reports in the VISTA environment. However, my target system is a Windows 2000 server. We installed SQL 2005 w/reporting services onto the Windows 2000 server. SQL2005 Database is up and running. Reporting Services are running, IIS RRS virtual directories are built, RRS databases are built. I can do everything except deploy reports from Business Intelligent Studio. I can preview reports, just cannot deploy. The Reporting Services indicate 1 failure in its configuration; the Web Service Identity. It is loaded with <server>ASPNET. I cannot get rid of this error. I assume this is the problem. After digging around I found that Windows 2000 does not have an ASPNET user, it uses the IWAM user instead. Reporting services did not run at all till I changed the rs config file and put the IWAM user in as <WebServiceAccount>.

Does anyone have Reporting services 2005 running on Windows 2000 server? Anyone know how to fix the Web Service Identity error I am getting?

Thanks

Reporting Services 2005 In SharePoint Integrated Mode With Forms Based Authentication

Feb 6, 2008

Well, I have SQL Server 2005 SP2 Reporting Services installed and configured in sharepoint integrated mode, so I am deploying reports in sharepoint libraries. Also I configured sharepoint to use forms authentication with builtin AspNetSqlMembership provider, but after this action I couldnot open reports through sharepoint library, instead of this, error was displayed mentioned below. I searched and found hotfix Cumulative Update 3 build 3186 for this issue, request it from microsoft support and applied it, but nothing has changed!

Error I have been experiencing is following:

An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server.
Verify that the report server is available and configured for
SharePoint integrated mode. --> The request failed with the error
message:

<html><head><title>Object moved</title></head><body>
<h2>Object moved to <a href="/_layouts/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=
%2f_vti_bin
%2fReportServer%2fReportService2006.asmx">here</a>.</h2>
</body></html>

I continued to dig and find out that this hotfix should update Microsoft.ReportingServices.SharePoint.UI.WebParts.dll from version 9.0.3042.0 to new version 9.0.3180.0, but when I checked file version after applying hotfix, it remained the same as was before i.e. 9.0.3042.0. Apparently this cumulative update does not fix this issue.
anyone has any idea how to solve it? Thanks in advance.

sorry for my poor english :-)

Reporting Services 2000 With SQL Server 2005 Data Sources

Jul 23, 2007

All,

I apologize for not doing the legwork to see if i can answer my own question, but I am close to a loosely planned SQL 2005 migration and don't have time and resources to test my own theories.

Is there a way for a Reporting Services 2000 server to connect to SQL server 2005 databases? I've tried creating a new data source and changing a report to this data source, but it seems like the report is still using the old data source. I'm guessing i might need to register new data providers on the 2000 RS server and then change the existsing data sources.

Ideas?

Thx in advance,

-Peter

Running Reporting Services ExecutionLog DTS Package In SQL 2005

Feb 21, 2006

I need some help, I am new to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Integration Services and I am having some problems running Reporting Services ExecutionLog Package in Integration Services. After setting up and running the package, I received this warning message : "Truncation may occur due to inserting data from data flow column 'InstanceName' with a length of 38 to database column 'InstanceName' with a length of 32". I have modified the column length for 'InstanceName' from 32 to 38 in the affected table but I am still receiving this warning message : "The external metadata column collection is out of synchronization with the data source columns. The column 'InstanceName' needs to be updated in the external metadata column collection"

How do I update column 'InstanceName' in the external metadata column collection?

Where do I find the package steps logs (sysdtspackagelog or sysdtssteplog) when running the package as a job or manually.

Reporting Services :: Where To Install SSRS SharePoint Mode In A Multi-server Environment

Aug 17, 2015

I am setting up sharepoint and sql server integration environment. I am considering the following topology: PowerPivot for SharePoint 2013 and Reporting Services in SharePoint mode Two Server Deployment

[URL]

I am looking to follow the topology example by the letter, which involves installing PowerPivot for SharePoint (aka SSAS in SharePoint mode) in the same server as my SQL, and installing SSRS in SharePoint (SP) integrated mode in the same server as SharePoint.

I understand, however, that if I wanted to install SSRS in SP mode in the same server as SQL, I could but only if the server contains the SP Object Model.

My first question is, what would involve having the SP Object Model in the SQL Server?

Would only installing SP binaries be enough; or Do I need to do a minimal install of SP in the SQL server enough for it to joing the SP farm? And most importantly, what would be the licensing implications for SP in case I want proceed down this route and have SSRS in SharePoint mode installed in the same server as the SQL?
