SQL Server 2008 :: Add Target Specific Extended Properties To Replication Subscriber Tables
Oct 6, 2015
I have documentation in the form of extended properties for tables which are subscribers in a replication scheme. The documentation describes the tables in reference to their replication scheme. I don't want to apply them to the source and have them published.I can't apply the extended properties receiving the error, 'don't have permission' yet I am DB creator on all systems. The theory is that I can't modify the subscription. Which makes sense. Can I turn off the replication, apply the extended properties, then turn on replication without causing harm?
We have a "main" SQL 2014 server who imports XML files using SSIS in a datacenter. In remote sites (which are warehouses), there is an instance of SQL 2014 Express. A merge replication is setup, as every operations done on each site must be "forwared" to the main database, as some XML files are generated as output for an ERP system.
Now, the merge replication replicate all the data to the server on each sites. But a specific site don't need the data of every other sites, only the data relevant to itself (which is the warehouse code). Is there a way to replicate only the data relevant to each individual sites to the subscribers? Or is there a better way than replication to accomplish this?
I know very little about Extended Events, but I know it is supposed to be more powerful than Profiler. The SQL Instance involved is 2008R2. I was asked whether we could capture when a stored proc was called with a certain parameter. So for example, if dbo.usp_mystoredproc is called and is passed a value of '12345a' for @customer, can that be captured? I would want to know the time it was called, the parameter and parameter value. Probably would be interested in the SPID or LoginName as well.
i have replication setup and working, there are 3 subscribers and now i want to add a 4th one. is it ok if i just add the subscriber and reinitialize replication?
We have a central office with a SQL2005SP4 server (yeah, I know... old as heck) that's the main database and it has multiple subscribers in regional offices. Well... one of the regional offices server is failing, and it needs to be replace.
The original server is an ancient Win2003 86x
The Server team will build a new Win2008r2 64x, and use the same name and IP address
And I'm tasked with the SQL part.
I'll be installing the same version/patch of SQL, but 64x instead, and migrate all databases, including the system databases.
How do I handle replication? Do I need to reintialize from scratch? or can I just use the backup as a starting point?
When creating the snapshot I didn't choose the option copy non-clustered indexes. I created some indexes manually on subscriber database. Replication failed later with some issue.
so reinitialized with new snapshot but all the indexes are gone from the subscriber database.
How to keep the indexes without dropping from subscriber database whenever we reinitialized with snapshot
I am getting the error The transaction log for database 'ReplicationDB' is full due to 'LOG_BACKUP'.log_reuse_wait_desc from sys.databases is showing logbackup
The database is subscribed database. We configured transactional replication. But the transactional replication is getting errors and failed. Is there relation b/n this replication failures and log growth in subscriber db?
I have two queries from two different tables ex ABC and BCD. For table ABC, according to my query, I got 11 records ; for table BCD I only got 9 records.
Bottom line: I would like to see only 11 records from Table ABC including certain data from table BCD after I joined this two tables.
However, no matter what I did I always got 99 records when I joined.
HiI tried posting this query in microsoft.public.sqlserver.programming but gotno response.I am new to replication but I am trying to setup up a transactionalreplication of tables from one database to another in MSSQL 2000 (SP2).My target tables have primary keys defined. Under publication properties Igo to the snapshot tab and for each table I clear the check box that says"Drop the existing table and re-create-it" and "clustered Indexes." On thispage the nothing is checked. for each table.Whenever the subscription is reinitialized it drops the primary keys on mytarget tablesand replaces them with a unique clustered index on the column that used tobethe Primary key.Is this normal? Is there anyway to stop it from doing this?I don't plan to send the snapshot more than once and let transactionalreplication take over for keeping my source and target in sync, but if Iever have to reinitialize the subscription, it would seem that I (orsomeone) willhave to take the a second step of manually dropping these clustered indexesand recreating the primary keys on the target table. Thanks in advance.---Dick Christoph---Dick ChristophJoin Bytes!612-724-9282
Plz help me to know whats wrong with following script:
EXEC sp_addextendedproperty @name = 'col_Programs_ID_Description', @Value = 'The Unique Identifier for a specific Program', @level1Type = 'Programs', @level2Type = 'ID'
I get the following error: Server: Msg 15600, Level 15, State 1, Procedure sp_addextendedproperty, Line 42 An invalid parameter or option was specified for procedure 'sp_addextendedproperty'.
NOTE: If I dont use the last 2 parameters this procedure runs fine, but it adds the Extended Property to the Database Level while I'm trying to add it to the TABLE-->COLUMN level.
Does anyone know of a good primer on extended properties and why I would want to use them. I have you the on-line books sections but that does a clear "why". I have search for white papers and similar documents.
I understand they are good for documentation, but I was looking for something that explain Microsoft long-term vision. How I might use them in template scripts, VSTS, etc.
Under SSMS I can add simple text and carriage returns to an extended property associated with a column. SSMS preserves the <CRLF> formatting that I used. But when I try to read this same text using, for example,
Hello, Can I read and write the extended properties with Access?
If it€™s possible is better create a project (ADP) or a classic MDB?
When I try with this query in the query panel (in a MDB)
SELECT objtype, objname, name, value FROM fn_listextendedproperty (NULL, 'schema', 'Person', 'table', default, NULL, NULL)
I have this error message:
The size of a field is too long
If I try with an ADP, when I ask a new query in design view, I have a message for some roblems between the Access version (2003) and SQL Server version (2005) and I can€™t save the query.
I'm not even sure this is possible but I'm using MERGE in a process that has 3 source tables (the process steps through each source table sequentially) and I need to delete from the Target database occasionally.
My current code is
sqlMerge = "MERGE " + TableName + " AS target USING @CData AS source" + " ON target.TotRsp = source.TotRsp AND target.ClientRef = source.ClientRef AND target.dbPatID = source.dbPatID" + " WHEN MATCHED THEN" + " UPDATE SET dbPatFirstName = source.dbPatFirstName, dbPatLastName = source.dbPatLastName,
[Code] ....
The Target db data is made up from several different clients and when the MERGE runs it uses TotRsp, ClientRef and dbPatID to uniquely match a source row to the target row and if no match it inserts the source row.
My problem is that when this runs with Source A first, it will delete all merged data from Source B & C. Then when Source B runs it will insert all Source B data but delete all from A & C and so on.
Is there way that that I can include additional clauses into NOT MATCHED BY SOURCE THEN so it knows only to delete when data has come from say Source A. Once the data is in the target table there is no reference to which source table it came from tho.
If there isn't a solution I suppose I could always add an extra column to the target db to indicate which source it came from and then have something like
NOT MATCHED BY SOURCE AND t.Source = 'SourceA'.
That's quite a bit of work my end to do that tho so I'd like to be sure it works.
Hi!I have a user on my database that has only "select" access(db_datareader).Problem is, I also want him to also be able to create/update extendedproperties on tables or views, but without modifying the tables'schema.I played around with GRANT but apparently, a member of "db_datareader"cannot create/modify extended properties on an object if he's not theowner of this object. I tried making this user a member of"db_datawriter", but it didn't work.Nothing short of making him member of "db_ddladmin" worked... but thenthis is too much, the user can now alter to delete tables: i DON'T wantthat!Any ideas anyone? Cheers!Ben
"Object is invalid. Extended properties are not permitted on 'dbHSPS.dbo.Conflict', or the object does not exist."
However I can SELECT * FROM dbHSPS.dbo.Conflict and it returns results, and I know the test_me extended property exists for table "Conflict" in dbHSPS.dbo ...
I am using SqlServer 2005 and I have created small sample table with culumns that have Extended properties. FirstName have [First Name] extended propery called M_Caption. Then I created a view from the table to use in an access database. My problem is, I can't get the table column extended properties to show up in the view column extended properties.
Here is the table
/****** Object: Table [dbo].[Person] Script Date: 04/07/2008 14:42:01 ******/ SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON GO CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Person]( [Id] [int] NULL, [FirstName] [nvarchar](50) NULL, [LastName] [nvarchar](50) NULL ) ON [PRIMARY] GO EXEC sys.sp_addextendedproperty @name=N'MS_Caption', @value=N'First Name' , @level0type=N'SCHEMA',@level0name=N'dbo', @level1type=N'TABLE',@level1name=N'Person', @level2type=N'COLUMN',@level2name=N'FirstName' GO EXEC sys.sp_addextendedproperty @name=N'MS_Caption', @value=N'Last Name' , @level0type=N'SCHEMA',@level0name=N'dbo', @level1type=N'TABLE',@level1name=N'Person', @level2type=N'COLUMN',@level2name=N'LastName'
I created this view

When one deploys a CLR DLL that contains [SqlFunction]'s, Visual Studio creates three extended properties on the SQL function that is created: these are,
AutoDeployed, SqlAssemblyFile, SqlAssemblyFileLine. What I haven't found anywhere on Help or MSDN online is what these extended properties mean. Could someone enlighten me? 1. What is a description of the above properties? 2. What is the benefit of using them (clearly the function works without using them). Does it help debugging? 3. Does the developer need to manually keep for instance the SqlAssemblyFileLine in sync with changes in the .NET code?
I am getting "Row not found on subscriber" error on the subscriber. I am trying to find the root cause.
1. Records get lost during publication initialization from backup, could not reproduce it though. I was inserting records in a loop into a replicated table while initializing the publication from backup. After the backup/restore finished, I have stopped the insert, allowed the replication to catch up and compared the row count, it was identical.
2. Someone or some process is deleting the records on the subscriber. Setup Audit, but could not confirm this theory so far.
3. Records get deleted twice, as we publish the execution of some bulk delete archive jobs, to fix latency issues. Found this article, which says, this is not the case:
[URL]
4. Records are deleted on the subscriber by triggers. The impacted database has no triggers.
declare tableName table ( uniqueid int identity(1,1), id int, starttime datetime2(0), endtime datetime2(0), parameter int )
A stored procedure has new set of values for a given id. Sometimes the startime and endtime are the same, in which case I update the value of parameter. Sometimes I add a new time range (insert statement), and sometimes I delete a time range (delete statement).
I had a question on merge, with insert, delete and update and I got that resolved. However I have a different question regarding performance of the merge statement.
If my target table has hundreds of millions of records and I want to delete/update/insert a handful of records, will SQL server scan the entire target table? I can't have:
merge ( select * from tableName where id = 10 ) as target using ...
and I can't have:
merge tableName as target using [my query] as source on source.id = target.id and source.starttime = target.startime and source.endtime = target.endtime where target.id = 10 ...
This means I cannot filter the set of rows in the target table to a handful of records where id = 10.
I know that SQL Server Express 2005 can subscribet to SQL Server 2000 publications. However, it seems that SQL server 2000 cannot perform a push to SQL Express.
Can anyone refer me to any online help or documentation on how a proper replication can be done between SQL 2005 Exress and SQL 2000??
Any experience of success or failure setting up CDC on the subscriber end of transactional replication?
Also for a bonus answer, why are explicit index operations not permitted (I'm assuming this is even on the publisher?) From BOL:
• Explicitly adding, dropping, or altering indexes is not supported. Indexes created implicitly for constraints (such as a primary key constraint) are supported.
I wanted to demonstrate something about CXPACKET wait type. For the purpose of this demo I've created a query in AdventureWorks database that uses a parallel query plan, an extended events session that captured the wait statistics for a single session and a query that shows the extended event's data. I ran it and it worked fine. Then I dropped and recreated the event session (to clear the data), in a new window I wrote a transaction that updated the table fallowed by waitfor statement so the first query will be blocked for few seconds and ran the whole thing again. The select statement was blocked as expected (ran for 9 seconds instead on 1 second as it ran without the blocking), but the wait stats that I got were almost identical to the those that I got without blocking the query.
--Query that uses parallel query plan With MyCTE as ( select top 50 * from Sales.SalesOrderHeader) select top 10000 * from Sales.SalesOrderHeader, MyCTE order by newid()
I have a setup of transaction replication between one publisher and subscriber in the Same server. Now, I need to add a new subscriber to the existing publisher. So publisher database name is DB_A and Subscriber 1 name is DB_B. So the new subscriber will be DB_C. Is this kind of setup possible on one server?
If yes then at the time of reinitialization is it going to apply the snapshot on DB_B as well as DB_C?Also let say if due to disk error DB_B gets corrupted then will data be still replicated between DB_A and DB_C? (Assuming publisher, subscriber 1 and 2 are sitting on individual disks).
I have a partitioned table in which one of the partitions is on the Primary filegroup. I want to move the data off of that Primary filegroup, and and on to a new filegroup named RTFG6.
Scheme and function currently defined as:
CREATE PARTITION SCHEME [PS1_Left_id] AS PARTITION [PF1_Left_id] TO ([RTFG1], [RTFG2], [RTFG3], [RTFG4], [RTFG5], [PRIMARY])
CREATE PARTITION FUNCTION [PF1_Left_id](int) AS RANGE LEFT FOR VALUES (10, 15, 35, 48, 53)
I've tried split and merge, and for whatever reason, always end up with the Primary filegroup holding data.
How do i get it off of Primary completely, and onto RTFG1 to RTFG6?
I don't want to export to a holding table and re-create the table if i can avoid it, due to identity columns and relationships with multiple tables.
I am developing the SSIS and stuck on copying specific files.
1. We receive CSV file to our drive on a daily basis.
2. The csv file name has the last 8 digits formatted with the yyyymmdd. For example, the file name might be abcdef_20150226.csv This means it will be our CSV file for today, Thursday, February 26, 2015.
3. There are a lot of files in this directory.
[URL]
What we would like to do:
Add the constraints (or expression) that will copy the files from this directory to another directory that have the date equivalent to Monday only. For example, the file abcdef_20150226.csv will not be copied because it is Thursday file. But the abcdec_20150223 will be copied to a new Directory because it is Monday.
I have a ssis package which runs daily. This ssis package has couple of execute sql tasks which load data for yesterday's transaction. Ex.
INSERT INTO Shipped (Div_Code, shipment_value, ship_l_id, shipped_qty, shipped_date, whse_code,
ord_id, ship_id, ship_l_ord_l_id, Created_date) select ord.DIV_CODE as div_code, ship.SHIPMENT_VALUE as shipment_value, ship_l.SHIP_L_ID as ship_l_id, ship_l.SHIPPED_QTY as shipped_qty, ship.SHIPPED_DATE as shipped_date, ship.WHSE_CODE as whse_code, ord.ORD_ID as ord_id, ship.SHIP_ID as ship_id, ship_l.ord_l_id as ship_l_ord_l_id, Getdate() as Created_date from SHIP ship, ORD ord, SHIP_L ship_l where ship.SHIPPED_DATE=(dateadd(day, -1, CONVERT(VARCHAR(10),GETDATE(),120))) and ship.WHSE_CODE='WPP' and ord.ORD_ID=ship.ORD_ID and ship.SHIP_ID=ship_l.SHIP_ID
All execute sql task has query like above query. and in some query we have date filter which loads data for yesterday. Ex. one query has ship.SHIPPED_DATE=(dateadd(day, -1, CONVERT(VARCHAR(10),GETDATE(),120))). some other query has ord.trans_date=(dateadd(day, -1, CONVERT(VARCHAR(10),GETDATE(),120))). this package runs daily through sql server job, so It loads data for yesterday. Now If i want to run for any particular date, How could we achieve from ssis?
I have a ssis package, which runs on date parameter. If we dont specify the date it always load data for yesterday's date. And if we give any specific date like '2015-05-10', It should load for that date. How can we achieve this dynamically (using package configuration)? Once we load for any specific date, package should be set for yesterday's date dynamically. How to achieve this as I am new to SSIS.
I would like to know about the DML process (Insert/update /delete) in a particular table .. it is like change tracking but I also want to know the modification date
I know CDC ( Change data capture ) but unfortunately it needs SQL 2008 developer/enterprise edition and my SQL server is SQL 2008 STANDARD edition.
