I want to compare SQL server Logins along with SID's across following 6 servers which includes Development, UAT, STG and Production.Is there any query available or is there any easy way to do so?
All the logins with sysadmin role are locked out in one of the SQL server. Also in that instance Logon trigger is implemented which allows only certain users with Windows Authentication to logon.
This server is converted into single user mode by using command prompt. Now we are attempting to connect to SQLServer using command sqlcmd -S FTCPU3239 (since we do not have any other login) and create a new login with sysadmin role but are refused due to logon trigger. it says Login failed for login 'DomainNameUserName' due to trigger execution.

I am using a SQL server 2008 database.I am working on a windows user.I noticed when I create a user in a database for a login, even that login does not exist in the database, the user is still successful created.I suppose it should error out.
Or I miss something?

Hi, We have just created a new Windows 2008 server running SQL 2005 64 bit. I am in the process of migrating old SQL 2000 databases onto this new server. One of the databases required a SQL login for some Windows groups that get created from the SMS software. I'm having a problem when I go into create a new login, select object type Groups, from this location , I enter the object name and click Check Names and it finds it. I select okay and everything looks good. But when I click ok on the New Login screen, I get the 15401 error saying that Windows NT user or group not found. I have gone into the Server Manager - Groups and verified that the group exists, and it does. The only thing I see when I click properties is on the bottom right had side of the screen it says "Changes to a user's group membership are not effective until the next time the user logs on." It says this for all the groups on this server and I get the same error message when I try to add any group. I have had the user that is a memeber of this group log off and back on a few times, but it still says the same thing and I still get the same error.
Anyone have any ideas on what the problem might be? Is there something on the Windows 2008 server setup that we missed?
Is it possible to view the Connection String information of a remote login/session? I want to know if the login is looking-up the database server via IP address, servername (NetBIOS name) or fully-qualified domain name (FQDN).
Using these DMVs I can get a lot of relevant information:
sys.dm_exec_sessions Program Name (eg. Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio), Client Interface Name (eg. .Net SqlClient Data Provider) sys.dm_exec_connections Net Transport (eg. TCP), Client Net Address and TCP Port
but not how the server's IP address was resolved. Is the connection string ever sent by the client to the server, or just used for DNS lookup?

We have a situation where SSRS reports are using Testuser account to run the SSRS reports for every user who has access to these reports.Now developers need the password for this login Testuser to proceed with their ssrs reports development, but its sort of mess that no one has password ever saved.So in case is there a way it can be retrieved or what should be an alternative if password cannot be retrieved for that login, as i believe changing the password will break the reports using the current password?

Have just tried my sql server 2005 connected asp classic website on II7 for the first time and have gotten some errors. First off I have unchecked show friendly errors in IE and have enabled ASP to send error messages to the browser.

As many of you know I've been hunting down a SQL CE alternative / embedded DB that is easily portable among handhelds.
It turns out, that without paying for some other DB, there really aren't any good ones... Unless you go GPL, and the interpretation of GPL that most are using is that your code too is GPL even though you may only Dynamically Link to their app. I think this is likely wrong, but none the less I'm back here yet again.
What I'm looking for this time is a definition of how SQL Server CE is implemented, how it differs from a full blown DB, etc, so I can more thourally explain "why SQL CE" is an embedded DB, and how it isn't the full blown SQL Server that has a bad reputation with some.
My guess is:
SQL Server CE is implemented via DLL. There aren't sockets etc to allow you to connect, and it operates more like an advanced hash on the file system.
Please correct me if i'm wrong, or... send me a link where I can further research. Also, if you have another embedded DB as a suggestion, that's free of course, please point it my way.

The trouble is that the comparison (the BINARY_CHECKSUM) is failing on the EarningsReportDate column, which is defined on BOTH servers in DUPLICATE databases as a smalldatetime.
The data is actually the same in both rows of each table (as is all the other data being compared). What I am seeing is that the select returns milliseconds on the LINKED server (the L_TA_MIRROR reference), but not on the local database?
for example, Local server data returned in above select is 2000-01-28 00:00:00 Linked server data returned in above select is 2000-01-28 00:00:00.000
Wassup with THAT? If I remove the date from the select/comparison, it says everything matches, so I am pretty sure this is the culprit that is causing the BINARY_CHECKSUM comparison to fail.
Is there some setting that I need to put on the Linked Server reference that says "treat this as the smalldatetime data type it IS, dammit!"????
I can get by the issue if I replace the date reference in the linked server part of the select with CAST(TA2.EarningsReportDate AS smalldatetime) but why do I have to do this?
Yes, I am SURE both servers have the column in question defined as a smalldatetime, as running the same select on either server causes the same failure, but only when referencing the LINKED server column.
Hi, I'm looking for a tool to compare 2 sql server database and makes a script of the differences (like an added table or record). We want to use it to generate a script which we can send to our customers to update their database if a change has been made. Example: We send our customers database A. After half a a year they request some changes to be made to the application that affects the database, say a table has to be added. We want the tool to automatically detect the difference between database A when it was first released and after the changes has been made and generate a script. Anyone suggestions? T.I.A., ratjetoes.
I am no expert in sql, but I keep stubbling on this problem:I have a table t1 with 2 columns (a,b)I have a table t2 with 2 columns (c,d)I need to delete all records from t1 which have the same value (a,b)than the value of (c,d) in all records in the t2 table.I oracle, this is simple:delete from t1where (a,b) in (select c,d from t2)because Oracle has support for this syntax. Dont remember how they callit. But this is not support in sql server. So I have to resort to:delete from t1where a + '+' + b in ( select c + '+' + d from t2)Of course, a,b,c,d must be varchar for this to work. Basically I fake aunique key for the records. Hi All,I had two Window NT 4.0 Server, say A and B... We recently upgradedfrom MS SQL Server 6.5 to MS SQL Server 2000 on Computer A, and forComputer B, I installed SQL Server 2000 from scratch. These two have asame RAM(512MB) and CPU speed...so the setup for hardware is almostidentical...For server A, there are around 10 connection to this SQL Server...For server B, there are also around 10 connection to this SQLServer...The database for SQL Server B is a copy from SQL Server A.... Irestored the database on SQL Server B from the backup dump of ServerA...We have a store procedure called usp_GetMemo(ID Interger) ... we feedID number to this store procedure and return its return Description...this table has ID column and it's Non-Cluster index, allow theduplicate row... there are 1.7 million records for this table...Here is problem... whenever i execute more than 100 times for thisstore procedure(usp_GetMemo(ID)) continuously, the CPU usage ofComputer A is 3 times bigger than computer B....I did run the command "DBCC DBReindex" , "Update Statistics" for thistable on computer A, but did not make any difference...Keep in mind that Computer A has been upgraded to SQL server 2000while Computer B installed from scratch... would that make differencesomehow?? Is there a limit on the size of the strings on both sides of the '=' sign for string comparison? If I have two varchar(max) strings, will the comparison be done beyond 8,000 characters?
Oracle and Teradata are able to capture the windows/client login that connects to their database with a functionnal ID.I've searched around and I don't think MS SQL can do this...I administer SQL 2014 server and also SAS Enterprise guide product. I've created sql server logins for several teams so everyone shares the same sql server login which is used to bind the SAS library to my SQL server database.
However, when looking at activity monitor, I can't drill down to which user is executing a particular query. I only see the SQL login which is share amongs 200 other folks.On the other hand, when they connect from SAS to Oracle or Teradata, I can see the shared login + additionally their windows NT login used to connect to SAS which is awesome....they can't fool me by using a shared/funcionnal ID....i still see who's using that ID...
What i need is to create a function that compares 2 strings variables and if those 2 variables doesn't have at least 3 different characters then return failure , else return success.

I have a server that has 20 databases . I have tested with few users with different level of access and all of them were able to connect to the server and also see, select, update , delete from a particular database which is kind of weird because they do not have a user login associated or mapped to that database. I checked and no user is part of any group in AD that would give them permission to connect . I need a query that would find the permission path of a user. I already queried with xp_logininfo but I am not getting any thing.

My problem is if i have more than on line on my invoice, for example 2 lines, the value of column [Value of Cost of invoice in accountancy] are duplicated, for 3 line invoice the value are multiply by 3.
There are a few features in the new SQL Server - Reporting Services that I really need in production. I have tested everything and it works great. I am running the CTP version since Microsoft is saying they aren't releasing the release version until 3rd quarter 2008.
Since Microsoft won't sell SQL 2008 until 3rd quarter, can I run the CTP in production until the release and then purchase SQL 2008?
I am using SQL Server 2005 at home. My problem is I forgot my password to log in to my server. I only remember user name is 'sa'. I haven't used it for two to three months. So I forgot password. Since last so many days i am seeing that someone is trying to login to sql server through login name sa.but that login is failed.and this is occuring constantly.
Earlier i had same login failed message for another ip address.i have blocked that ip address through access-list in firewall.but now i am seeing the same message for another ip address.

(2).What is the impact of this on sql server performance.is sql server performance degraded by this kind of contineous attack?

Hello - does anyone have experience w/SQL Server 2005 in a virtual environment? I'm considering this for a production environment but not sure if performance will suffer. Our databases will have a lot of writing but not too much reading. A SSRS solution is currently the only app. connecting to the SQL db. Max users to server at any given time will be very low (~10 users max). But the databases are pulling in data from other, outside multiple data sources on a daily basis.
We can use comparison operators with strings as well. Hence, I tried to use the following query on a SQL Server 2012 instance with the sample AdventureWorks2012 database (the collation of the database and of the column is the default:
SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS):
USE AdventureWorks2012 ; GO
--Returns 5 records SELECT pp.Name FROM Production.Product AS pp WHERE pp.Name >= N'Short' AND pp.Name <= N'Sport' ; GO
The query only returns 5 records. This despite the fact that the search is an inclusive search and the Production.Product table contains records that begin with "Sport".
Now, when I replace "Sport" with "Sporu" (just moving one character up in the alphabet to verify whether characters after the word have any impact on the search) gives me 8 records.

What's going on inside of SQL Server that allows it to fetch "Short-Sleeve Classic Jersey" for the starting word "Short" but prevents it from fetching "Sport-100 Helmet" for the ending word "Sport" despite the search being an inclusive search?
Hello! Recently, I set up server with Windows Web Server 2008 RC1, SQL 2008 Express beta, .NET 3.5, IIS 7. I'm running ASP.NET web application with SQL database. Everything works fine until the first application state on the server expires. After that, any postback that starts a new application state on the server and connects to the database, results in the following error: Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed. Is this a bug that will be fixed in release of Windows / SQL or am I doing something wrong? Many thanks for help, Jan
