I would like to set up a batch file that will copy a SQL Server
backup file from the local drive to the network drive. I would
like to append the file date to the end of the copied file. I
assume a batch file can accomplish this but I am new to batch
file writing. Does anyone have code that they already created
for this sort of task??
Thank you!
My client will be receiving a .dbf file which needs to be uploadedinto a sql server database table (as an append) every week. They areNOT computer savvy and I would like to automate this process ratherthan go into enterprise manager and run data transformation. Is there any way to write a batch file or a set of command lines whichwill do this? Thanks.Monica
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have create a batch file to execute a stored proc to import data.
When I run it from the server (Remote Desktop) it works fine, but if I share the folder and try to run it from my pc, it doesn't do anything. I don't get an error, it just doesn't do anything. My windows user has admin rights in SQL. Why is it not executing from my PC?
I've been struggling with this issue,
1) Test--FolderName (This Test folder name should use as a database name for below sub folders)
a)Create--Sub Foldername
i)create.sql
b)Alter---Sub FolderName
i)Alter.sql
c)Insert---Sub FolderName
i)Insert.sql
[Code] .....
The scripts need to be run in order. So script one needs to run first folder in that sub folders after that next second folders etc..
Is there a way to create a bat file that automatically runs all these scripts, in order against, the databases they need to?
The databases that they need to run against have the name of the database at the beginning of the name of the folder.
We have a Job that calls a SSIS package 2005 that does some processing and execute a BAT file. This Job is being called by a web application. The BAT file creates a folder and named it based on the current date ( YYYY_MM) e.g 2015_07
echo %date:~10,4%_%date:~4,2%
md %date:~10,4%_%date:~4,2%
pause
exit 0
It was working okay in the SQL Agent 2005 server until we moved to the new server SQL Agent 2012 using the same package SSIS package 2005. Now the issue is, instead of creating the folder based on YYYY_MM, it's now being created as YYYY_DD.I've checked the Regional settings of both server and they have the same "ENGLISH (United States) format. I even ran the code below and they're returning the same output echo %date:~ 10,4%_% date :~4,2%
I know the BAT file can be improved by not depending current locale in WINDOWS, but I just want to understand how this issue occurs and how does the regional setting being overridden?
Hello,
I'm beginner in SQL and I would like to do a simple thing :
Extract data from different table to a text file.
I would like an automatic schedule job to extract these data and also I need that the result are "append" in this text file.
Could you help me and give me the process to follow.
Thanks in Advance
I am running a SQL job that append the result set every 15 minutes on a same text file.
But it also brings lot of information on the text file like JOb lOg info and time stamps.
I only need to see the pure data i am querying how to fix it.
I have created a DTS package which transfers data from a SQL 2000server table to a text file. Each time the package is executed thedata in the text file is replace with the new data from the currentexecution of the package. Can DTS append new text to a text file andnot replace it each time the package executes. Is there an option orseeting for this? I havent seen one. Can anyone help me out on this.Thank you,Brett

Can a batch file that resides on another server be executed from a different machine? I have a batch file that resides on a server that I would like to run using SQL 2005 Integration Services. Is there anything I can do that would allow me to remotely execute this batch file and have it run in that environment.
BATCH FILE:
cd C:Trandev
otrun -at OTRecogn.att -DINPUT_FILE=%1 -tl 1 -cs dv -lg mylog -I
C:Trandev represents the remote environment
I have tried mapping the remote machine to a network drive on my local machine and using that drive to execute the batch file in an Execute Process Task, but it does not work.
SSIS:
I have a FOR EACH loop grabbing files and writing fileName to a variable that is passed to the Process Task as an argument through an expression(%1 in the batch file above). The Working Directory is a mapped network drive. The Executable is also a network drive plus batch file name.
Any help would be appreciated.
My computer is a HP Compaq dc7100, 512mb RAM, WindowsXP
Declare@QRYvarchar(8000)
Select@QRY='bcp "Select COL1, COl2 From table(nolock)" queryout "D: est.xls" -c -T -S ' + convert(varchar(20), serverproperty('servername'))
Select@QRY
Execmaster..xp_cmdshell@qry
The file test.xls is getting generated but when opening getting the message
"File you are trying to open is in a different format than specified by the file extension"
Is there any property that can be set to avoid this message?
Hi,
First, I would like to apologize if this is in anyway not related to Transact-SQL. And I would greatly appreciate your help for this is an urgent requirement. I just have a batch file which performs an ftp. Now, if the ftp process aborts, i would like to send out a mail and page the on-call person. I am not sure how to do this - I mean how to send email and send message through pager. My batch file is called by the Windows scheduler.
Thanks in advance.
Help,
I have a client that requres me to add a header line and trailer line to a flat file. The trick is the header and footer row is required to have a length of 120 with 5 colunmns while the data included in the query has a length of 1125 and about 70 columns. How can I append a header row to a file through SSIS.
SQL Server Compact 3.5 - I've a sdf file created in a .NET windows desktop command line program. How to now consume the data in MS Excel?
I can see that under
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server Compact Editionv3.5
I've one DLL called
sqlceoledb35.dll
But I don't have any oledb driver listed when creating an UDL file?
How can I consume the data in other apps that are not .NET and developed in house them?
Thanks, AM.
I am running backups on SQL Sever express and I take backups via the batch file executing the TSQL as below. This works perfectly fine, I just need to be able to spool out the backup completion log. What TSQL command can I use to do that?
My batch file looks like this:
@echo off
sqlcmd -S SERVER01 -E -i H:master_scriptsTOM_FAM_log.sql
Which will the call the TOM_FAM_log.sql :
DECLARE @name VARCHAR(50) -- database name
DECLARE @path VARCHAR(256) -- path for backup files
DECLARE @fileName VARCHAR(256) -- filename for backup
DECLARE @fileDate VARCHAR(20) -- used for file name
SET @path = 'H:BackupTOM_FAM'
[Code] ....
Usually if we schedule the backups using the maintenance plan, we can chose reporting options that can spool the result of the backup to a text file. What is the T-SQL for the spool report to a text file.
This option produces a file that writes logs with the details I posted below. I would like to do the same or similar using T-SQL in my code.
Microsoft(R) Server Maintenance Utility (Unicode) Version 11.0.3000
Report was generated on "SERVER01".
Maintenance Plan: Backup logs
Duration: 00:00:00
Status: Succeeded.

Hi!
Can something tell me how I can obtain the machine name (either IP address or DNS name) on which SQL Server is running via a SQL query?
select @@version returns a lot of useful information, however it doesn't return the host name.

I have an .xlsx file where I need to import the data into a table. If there is not a way to do this, is there a way to import either a tab del file or different type of .csv file into the database?
Do not want to use the SSIS or import feature from SQL2008 as I tried to save the steps and running it wont work either.
I am having a Stored Procedure Or SQL Script to be attached to Job Scheduler. When this Stored procedure executes it generates some output text. I need to store this output to text file when ever this store Procedure (or) SQL Script executed by job Scheduler.

I have a table of Customers & their data in about 20 Columns.
I have another table that has potential Customers with 3 Columns.
I want to append the records from Table 2 onto Table 1 to the Columns with the same names.
I've thought of using UNION ALL or Select Insert but I'm mainly stuck on the most efficient way to do this.
There is also no related field that can be used to join the data as these Customers in table 2 have no Customer ID yet as they're only potential Customers.
Can I just append the 3 columns from Table 2 to the same 3 columns in table 1?
HELP,
I need to take a variable from a tabel in SQL Server pass to a Batch file and execute the batch file. Right now I can exec the batch file with XP_CMDSHELL but how can I pass the variable to the batch file and loop through all the variables.
Please help

I have separate scripts for Creation of Tables, Stored Procedures, Views, Triggers in different .sql files.
I have to execute thses scripts in batch in different servers and different databases without opening SSMS.
All .sql files to be executed in single command.
I have to set up archiving of some pretty large tables (125M+ rows) and I'm trying to figure out the best way to do it.
I've been using OUTPUT into, something like this:
delete top (100000) a
output deleted.RecordID
into dbo.RecordsArchive (RecordID)
from dbo.Records
It's difficult to tell if it sub-optimal code or just sheer volume, but any performance penalty using OUTPUT into in this way? or is it advantageous to insert the records to the archive first, and then delete them in two separate operations?
Hello!
Recently, I set up server with Windows Web Server 2008 RC1, SQL 2008 Express beta, .NET 3.5, IIS 7.
I'm running ASP.NET web application with SQL database. Everything works fine until the first application state on the server expires. After that, any postback that starts a new application state on the server and connects to the database, results in the following error:
Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed.
Is this a bug that will be fixed in release of Windows / SQL or am I doing something wrong?
Many thanks for help,
Jan

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using the following batch file to execute a script that creates a db and all its objects in the local sql express:
sqlcmd -S (local)SQLExpress -i C:CreateDB.sql
This works fine, but I'm wondering if there's an easy way to put the script in the batch file, so users don't have to worry about putting the script in the C drive. I tried getting rid of the i parameter and pasting the script from the sql file into the batch file, but it didn't work.

Hi all,
I have the "Northwind" database in my Sql Server Management Studio Express.
In my C:ProSSEAppsSamplesForChapter02Chapter02 folder, I have the following 2 files:
(1) ListColumnValues (MS-DOS Batch File)
sqlcmd -S .sqlexpress -v DBName = "Northwind" CName = "CompanyName" TName =
"Shippers" -i c:prosseappschapter02ListListColumnVales.sql -o
c:prosseappschapter02ColumnValuesOut.rpt
(2) ListColumnValues (Microsoft SQL Server Query File)
USE $(Northwind)
GO
SELECT $(CompanyName) FROM $(Shippers)
GO
When I ran the following SQLcmd:
C:ProSSEAppsSamplesForChapter02Chapter02>ListColumnValues.bat
I got the following "ColumnValuesOut.rpt" with error messages:
'Northwind' scripting variable not defined.
Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Server L1P2P3SQLEXPRESS, Line 1
Incorrect syntax near '$'.
'CompanyName' scripting variable not defined.
'Shippers' scripting variable not defined.
Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Server L1P2P3SQLEXPRESS, Line 1
Incorrect syntax near 'CompanyName'.
I copied these T-SQL statements from a book and I do not know how to correct them.
Please help and tell me how to correct these errors.
Thanks in advance,

Hi,Im trying to write a class that compiles a list of SQLCommands and then executes them all at once. Im trying to reduce the amount of calls to the database.Im also trying just to update the fields which have changed so I cannot use Stored Procedures as that would mean writing way too many stored procedures for every permutation on every table in my database. So Ive decided to build sql commands and then execute them all with one call to the database. When I print the commandtext property of the sqlcommand to the page whilst debugging It shows something like insert into XXX (f1,f2) values (@v1,@v2). Is there any way to see the final sql string, with the @v1 variables replaced by the actual values in the parameters I have added to the sql command?Im building the commands by creating a new sqlCommand. Then I set the commandtext to "insert into XXX (f1,f2) values (@v1,@v2)". Then I Add Parameters to the sqlCommand. My Parameters count is showing the correct value.I want to be sure now that when I go to send these commands to the database as part of one long string that it will work. Thanks,C
View 3 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know where Enterprise Manager (MSSQL 2000) gets the "Last TSQL Command Batch:" information from that shows when you display the properties for a process listed under current activity/Process Info for a server.
This could be useful for a bespoke system monitoring utility in my system.
Hi, and thanks for your help. I have created a simple batch that xcopy files from one directory to another shared directory (in another server). Here is the code:
xcopy c:OUT_TRANSIT E:BACKUP_CESWEB /y
the E:BACKUP_CESWEB is in another server where I mapped the BACKP_CESWEB folder and make it shared.
the location of the batch file is in c:code .
When I double click the batch, the files are moved into E:BACKUP_CESWEB But when I use the window 2000 schedule or try to run the batch code from within sql server analyser, I get no results.
Any idea how to solve this.
The bottom line is that I want to copy files from one server to another server. Thanks for your help
