I have an inline table valued function (function1) where I need to call another inline function which requires 4 TVPs (function2).
Unfortunately, given the limitations of my php calling program I cannot pass a TVP to function1. How can I make that call to function2 (using empty TVPs) from function1 without putting any TVP parameters on function1?
I could do this by creating a multistatement wrapper function that declares the empty tables and passes them to function1, but I was trying to avoid doing this. Is there any other way?
function1:
ALTER FUNCTION [dbo].[function1] (
@ListId INT,
@StartSize INT = NULL,
@EndSize INT = NULL,
@StartDate DATE = NULL,
@EndDate DATE = NULL
I am building a generic SSIS where it takes a text source file and converts to a destination source file . However in the process I want to set the row delimiter and the column delimiter dynamically through the package variable. So that I can use it for any file transfer.
I saw the option for row delimiter in the file connection string property but did not see any column delimiter option.
I have the following in my table. As you can see the Geo field is null (which is of type Geography), what I'm trying to do is populate that with an update statement by comparing the latitude and longitude for each row so I can then work out the distance, I've been following this tutorial to workout the distance which is giving me the desired results
[URL] ....
The issue I have is passing in the points i.e latitude and longitude and then updating the Geo field for the row, I currently have 11938 rows in my DB so I need to run this against all of them. I thought I had it I was thinking of update then select from the source but then I realized I need to pass the lat and long in for the points and that's where I got confused
I have a stored procedure some thing like this.. When I pass empty strings to both the parameters ..it is returning all the rows from the table.
IF I pass both empty strings to @LLASTNAME_I Char(21), @DEPARTMENTCODE_I char(7),it should not select any rows from the table.. can any one suggest me as to how to accomplish this..
CREATE procedure Ceb_Phone_Book @LLASTNAME_I Char(21), @DEPARTMENTCODE_I char(7) AS Select EM010132.DEPARTMENTCODE_I, DEPARTMENTNAME_I, LLASTNAME_I, FFIRSTNAME_I, EM010132.WORKPHONE_I, EM010132.MSTRING_I_5 FROM EM010132 INNER JOIN HR2DEP01 ON HR2DEP01.DEPARTMENTCODE_I = EM010132.DEPARTMENTCODE_I WHERE INACTIVE = 0 AND LLASTNAME_I LIKE LTRIM(RTRIM(@LLASTNAME_I)) + '%' AND EM010132.DEPARTMENTCODE_I LIKE LTRIM(RTRIM(@DEPARTMENTCODE_I)) + '%' ORDER BY LLASTNAME_I,FFIRSTNAME_I
I am trying to test the concept of passing multi value parameters from one report using the Action Property of a textbox to open another report is a new Window with the Multi Value parameter values already passed. The test involves the following:
Report 1:
1. Multi Value Parameter @ReportParameter1 has three Values: Value1, Value2, Value3
2. Has a text box with the Action Property set to Go to URL with the following Expression: ="javascript:void(window.open('http://reportserver/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fReports%2fReport2&rs:Command=Render&ReportParameter1=" + JOIN(Parameters!ReportParameter1.Value,"&ReportParameter1=") + "'))"
Report 2:
1. Has Two Parameters @ReportParameter1 and @ReportParameter2
2. @ReportParameter1 has Available Values as follows:Â Value1, Value2, Value3
Does not have any default Values.
When I click on the textbox on Report1, it does navigate to Report2 but none of the Values are being set.
There are a few features in the new SQL Server - Reporting Services that I really need in production. I have tested everything and it works great. I am running the CTP version since Microsoft is saying they aren't releasing the release version until 3rd quarter 2008.
Since Microsoft won't sell SQL 2008 until 3rd quarter, can I run the CTP in production until the release and then purchase SQL 2008?
Hello - does anyone have experience w/SQL Server 2005 in a virtual environment? I'm considering this for a production environment but not sure if performance will suffer. Our databases will have a lot of writing but not too much reading. A SSRS solution is currently the only app. connecting to the SQL db. Max users to server at any given time will be very low (~10 users max). But the databases are pulling in data from other, outside multiple data sources on a daily basis.
Hello! Recently, I set up server with Windows Web Server 2008 RC1, SQL 2008 Express beta, .NET 3.5, IIS 7. I'm running ASP.NET web application with SQL database. Everything works fine until the first application state on the server expires. After that, any postback that starts a new application state on the server and connects to the database, results in the following error: Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed. Is this a bug that will be fixed in release of Windows / SQL or am I doing something wrong? Many thanks for help, Jan
I downloaded the €śMicrosoft SQL Server 2008 Express CTP, February 2008€? from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=749BD760-F404-4D45-9AC0-D7F1B3ED1053&displaylang=en
I simply replaced the 2005 file €śSQLEXPR.EXE€? with the 2008 file €ś€?, recompiled the installation and tested only for it to fail. I than read the 2008 books online and noted the change in command line options.
I then changed the command line to suit the Microsoft 2008 books online, recompiled the installation and tested only for it to fail once more.
Interestingly I tested the install from the default GUI and at the point of adding the €śsa€? login credentials it fails to allow the installation to proceed. Strangely by selecting the windows authentication credentials, €śnext€? than €śback€? it now allows me to add the €śsa€? login credentials and continues to install correctly as required.
I hope I have explained this clearly enough.
1. Is this a bug in the €śMicrosoft SQL Server 2008 CTP, February 2008€? installation? 2. If so is this causing the command line install options to fail? 3. How do I obtain a version of €śMicrosoft SQL Server 2008 Express€? that will work installing from the command line?
I have a sql query that gets the count of exams held in each month.
Below is the code that I have used.
select Examid, count(*) as CumCount from [dbo].[Exams] where ExamCategory in ('Major','Critical') and Month(EXOCCRDATE) = Month(getdate()) and Year(EXOCCRDATE) = Year(getdate()) group by Examid
The code works good when we have data for the current month. When we dont have any exams for the current month, the code outputs empty values. I want the code to be altered so that when there is no value returned in the output, i want a default value shown in the output.
I have attached the sample data that I am using. In the data we dont have dates for the month of October. So when I run the code it will display empty output. So what I need is I need a text like 'No Data' to be shown when no value is returned by the query.
I have always (or at least intended to) treat NULL and empty strings separately in my SQL querying history. Now I have run across something that mystifies me (but probably shouldn't) that I would like an explanation for.
Consider this bit o' code:
DECLARE @ORDER CHAR(10) SET @ORDER= ( SELECT NULL ) IF @ORDER <> '' PRINT 'Not an empty string'
IF @ORDER IS NULL PRINT 'It is NULL'
Run this and you will get:
It is NULL
I was expecting:
Not an empty string It is NULL
Why is NULL not passing the 'not an empty string' test? In other words, how does NULL = '' ? Is NULL cast to an empty string for this comparison?
I have created some dynamic sql to check a temporary table that is created on the fly for any columns that do contain data. If they do the column name is added to a dynamic sql, if not they are excluded. This looks like:
If (select sum(Case when [Sat] is null then 0 else 1 end) from #TABLE) >= 1 begin set @OIL_BULK = @OIL_BULK + '[Sat]' +',' END
However, I am currently running this on over 230 columns and large tables 1.3 mil rows and it is quite slow. How I can dynamically create a sql script that only selects the columns in the table where there is data in a speedier manner. Unfortunately it has to be on the fly because the temporary table is created on the fly.
I was running an operation to shrink file/emptyfile a data file, and then remove it.
It blocked and caused a huge mess, I suspect on the removal part. But I want to confirm that the emptyfile completed (and that the engine isn't going to try to put more data in there for when I schedule the removal part again a week or more from now).
How does the engine know not to put any more data in there, and how long does that situation last?
I have a requirement where i have to insert empty string in column whose datatype is decimal.
I have to replace the column value if it is null then insert it as ' '.
Obviously its generate error msg for conversion, is there any workaround for this. I cannot add 0 or other value as this column is used to generate some output value.
IIF(Column1 IS NULL, ' ', Column1))
I used TRY_PARSE but it insert null value if there is conversion error.
I have a db based on the Tracking_Schema.sql / Tracking_Logic.sql (find in &windir%/Microsoft.NET/Framework/v3.0/Windows Workflow Foundation/SQL/EN), so after executing both of them I get several stored procedures, especially dbo.GetWorkflows. And I have a solution in VS05 which when executed is filling this stored procedure with Instance-Id´s. My question is: how is the working command (like exec, truncate,..) to empty my st.procedure, not to drop/delete it?
I am trying to create a SSIS package that will create a csv of a dataset for daily events in the database. However there will be days that there was no activity and thus an empty dataset. The package still runs fine but I want to stop the package if the dataset is empty.
FLOW:
DATA FLOW task: get daily data and put in CSV file
FTP TASK: upload the file to FTP server
MAIL/Copy file task: Move the file and then send a confirmation mail on task completion status.
Pretty simple and it all works great, I do have a few complexities in there. What I would like to add and I am at a loss is at the beginning, if the OLE DB Task resultset is empty then move to Mail Task otherwise process normally. I have tried conditional split, derived columns, the only thing I haven't tried in Script task and am not sure about that yet.
As i have to handle the empty result set from and open query call to linked analysis server in dynamic SQL. If there is no data returning from the query then i just wanted to display message with no data.In current scenario it gives me below the error.
Msg 7357, Level 16, State 2, Line 13 Cannot process the object "MDX QUery".
The OLE DB provider "MSOLAP" for linked server "CO1BMXPSQL08" indicates that either the object has no columns or the current user does not have permissions on that object.
Hi, i manage to passs an xml string to sql server based on the reference site(http://www.eggheadcafe.com/articles/20030627c.asp by Robbe Morris). From his way, i can only pass XML in this format <cart> <order id="10"> <prod id="1" qty="1"/> <prod id="2" qty="3"/> </order> </cart>
Note : the value is stores as attribute (<prog id="1") . I am just wonder can i actaully pass my xml string to sql Server with this format <cart> <order id="10"> <prod>
<id>1</id> <qty>3</qty>
</prod> </order> </cart> and how can i read the value from this format in my stored procedure?
I am facing a strange problem in executing stored procedure. Basically my sproc will take a values from Java application and create a Insert statement. see stored procedure below.Just to give some more background- I am re writing the procedure which was written in oracle already.
Problem I am facing now is with the statement below . When I execute the procedure for first time it works fine however when I execute for second time onwards it is setting to empty. Not sure what is the problem with my declaration and setting up with values. For reference I have pasted my complete stored procedure code below.
I'm new to SQL server 2005. I installed SQL server 2005 and had some problems with the original install. I therefore uninstalled SQL server 2005. Rebooted and than installed SQL server 2005 again. Everything appears to have installed correctly except for the fact that when I start SQL Server Management Suite I get 2 copies running in the foreground. The last copy of the SQL Server Management Suite shows a dialogue box that contain a warning sign (yellow triangle) with no text but an OK button is in the dialogue box. When I press the OK button, this instance of SQL Server Management Suite kills itself. The first instance is now given window focus and it brings up the "Connect to Server" dialogue box. I can connect to my local server and run a script to add columns to the database. But everytime I bring up SQL Server Management Suite, I always end up with 2 copies running and I have to hit the OK button to get rid of the second copy. Can anyone help me get ride of this annoying problem?
Anyone got any Ideas on how to set tax...TXZip as a variable in the following script segment?
Select RecordID = Identity(int,1,1), Zip_ZipCode, Zip_SignatureCode Into #Temp from tempstatezip where State = @State
Delete From tax...TXZIP ------------------------------
While (Select Count(*) from #temp)>0 Begin
Set @rowVal = (Select top 1 RecordID from #Temp)
Id like to set this up in a store procedure so I can pass the state variable to it.....
Having problems setting a linked server as a variable thou..... Example of what I want..... Delete from @StateVar But as a linked server I always get...
declare @StateVar Varchar(11) Set @StateVar = 'Tax...TXZip' Select * from @StateVar
Msg 137, Level 15, State 2, Line 3 Must declare the variable '@StateVar'.
I have created a variable in a SQL Task and assigned it to a string variable. When I debug the container with a breakpoint, I can see the correct date value being assigned to the variable.
I have an ADO Net source setup to an Oracle connection. I need to pull the Oracle data down that has an updated date greater than the updated date in my ODS.
My issue is that the variable is not being passed through to my expression that I use for an ADO Net source.
"SELECT * FROM BI_EDW.GL_JE_HEADERS WHERE LAST_UPDATE_DATE > To_Date('" + (DT_WSTR, 19) @[User::varLastUpdateDate] + "','yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss')"
How do we pass on the step1 output file to step2 of the same job? Iwould like to know the current job's output file programmetically,instead of hard coding it. Any idaes would be appreciated.Thanks
I have a report that I'm trying to automate. Basically I want to create a cursor of containing authors, I want to run my report for that particular author, save the report, and move to the next author in the cursor. I want to continue this process until there's no more authors left in the table. Is this possible with reporting services 2005? If so how do I communicate the value from my cursor, to my report?
We've developed several reports where you can type in / select variables and run them, affecting their outcomes.
We'd like to change this so if the user clicks on a link from our Intranet, this takes them straight to the report with the appropriate parameter(s) - rather like the "jump to report" function within a report - i.e. the url for that function...
Hello All, I was hoping that someone had some wise words of wisdom/experience on this. Any assistance appreciated... feel free to direct me to a more efficient way... but I'd prefer to keep using a stored proc. I'm trying to pass the selected value of a dropdownlist as a stored procedure parameter but keep running into format conversion errors but I am able to test the query successfully in the SQLDatasource. What I would like to do is this: select * from tblPerson where lastnames Like "A%" . Where I pass the criteria after Like. I have the values of the drop down list as "%", "A%", "B%", .... I've been successfully configuring all of the other params, which includes another dropdown list (values bound to a lookup table also)... but am stuck on the above... Thank you for any assistance,
