I am working on SSIS wehre I need to work on a flat file as a source and needed to import it to database. If the destination table have the record already, I need to update it and if not exist, I just need to import the whole data.
View 9 RepliesI'm trying to create an import package using BIDS. I'm using SQL Server 2008. The data is saved as a .csv file so that I can use the flat file option for data source. The issue I am having is that when I preview the flat file after selecting it as the datasource, some of the data that have the numeric file format are showing up as non numeric, for instance the value -1,809,575,682,700 is being viewed as ""1 and the package is giving a conversion error.

I have other CSV files I'd like to import, but I don't want to import entries where column "ordereID" (PK) are the equal. Just want to import the new data found in the CSV files. I tried adding a Lookup in-between the Flat File Source and the OLE DB Destination, but I'm not sure how to accomplish only importing new data.

One more thing is that while transferring the data, can we view/insert/update source database or it is locked if the transfer is in process.

We have an SSIS package that reads in a tab delimited file and throughs the data into a SQL Server 2005 table. The package worked fine on the test files but when we recieved the production files we are getting the error message:
Invalid data for type "numeric".
Needless to say this is not very discriptive. I ran a trace on the DB durning the call and its doing a bulk insert

When I changed the Data Flow Destination off to OLE DB Destination the error does not occure and all records are loaded successfully.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Thanks.
The only way to add a new column to an existing mapping that I know is to go to advanced editor and refresh. This however keeps only the default mapping (where the field names match), the rest is wiped out, so need to restore the mapping manually after that. Risky and annoying at the same time. Is there any alternative?

I am trying to import data from an MS Access application to SQL Server and all of the connections are good, but some of the data isn't and if I let it migrate using this tool it crashes on the bad data and there is no data that migrates. The Review Data Type Mapping screen will allow me to bypass the records in error and load the rest. however, I can;t do that if I cannot see the screen.
I created a SSIS package and several data flow componenets for this package.
What does strategy exist to deploy SSIS package and data flow components into a enterparise server?

I need to update the Denominator column in one row with the value from the Numerator column in a different row. For example the last row in the table is
c010A92NULL
I need to update the Denominator, which is currently NULL, with the value from the Numerator where the MeasureID=c001 and GroupID=A.
This value is 668 so, the row should look like

I am getting this error when connecting to Oracle db. I tried using Microsoft OLEDB provider for Oracle it give me error and tells me the error could not be retrieved from Oracle. When I try the Native OLDDB provider for Oracle I get

I am using SSIS integration between two database. Both databases are sql server 2008. Â using many integration but getting problem in two only only two integration giving problem, both are executing perfectly and out put also not showing any error.
but destination table not inserted/updated anything.
first issue integration is using data flow task with oledb source and destination.Â
second one is using execute task with for-eachloop container.
Im using a store proc in SQL server.I use one table to store my hockey statistics data of each player in the league.When i submit my form i would like to check if there is any sheet of that player that allready exist .. If so then i do update.. if it does not exist i do the insert statement.Here the way i figured it out ! One store proc to do the work of the insert or update. And one to check if the player exist in the statistics table. But i just cant find a way to return a good value from my second store proc. I am new to integration services. I am trying to a build a data warehouse and need to be able to insert new data as well as update data that has changed. I am getting the data in a flat file and need to import it into SQL 2005. I saw some post on www.sqlis.com/default.aspx?311 but I did the example is for OLE DB component. I am not sure how to achieve this using a text file as source. Any help would be greatly appreicated.

I have no problem pulling the Oracle data using OLEDB, but I'm not sure how to create the XML DOM doc. Once I get it into the DOM doc, I then need to assign metadata about the XML DOM doc and insert it all into a staging table:

I will have a separate SSIS package to pull the [XML/File] field and process the data into the workflow tables. Is there a wasy I can use the ADO Record-set Destination task to accomplish this, or do I have to create a custom C# script to create the XML DOM Doc?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm presented with a problem where I have a database table which must be migrated via a "custom tool", moving the data into a new table which has special character requirements that didn't exist in the source database. My data resides in an SQL Server 2008R2 instance.
I envision a one-time query which will loop through selected records and replace the offending characters with --, however I'm having trouble understanding how this works.
There are roughly 2500 records which meet the criteria of "contains bad characters", frequently containing multiple separate bad chars, and the table contains roughly 100000 rows.
Special Characters are defined as #%&*:<>?/{}|~ and ..
While the field is called "Filename" it isn't always so, it is a parent/child table where foldernames are also stored.
Example data:
Tablename = Items
ItemID Filename ListID

The examples I'm finding are all oriented around SELECT statements, to change the output of what I see returned, however I'd rather just fix the entire column using an UPDATE. Initial testing using REPLACE fails because I don't always have a single character as the bad thing in a string.
In a better solution, I found an example using a User Defined Function to modify the output of a select, but I cannot use that UDF in an UPDATE.
My alternative is to learn enough C# to modify the "migration tool" to do this in-transit, but I know even less about C# than I do of SQL.
I gather I want to use @@ROWCOUNT to loop through the rows but I really can't put it all together in a cohesive way.
I writing the data from sql table to flat file destination. I want to insert the record count in the first line of the destination file.
Record count must preceed 00.EX . Writing 4500 records from database should show 004500 in the first line of flat file.
I have an execute task to store the count in a variable now.

Hi,
We have a csv file which contains a date field. The data in the field contains "0" as well as "dd/mm/yyyy". Is it possible to update all "0" to "01/01/1900" on import using SSIS.
Basically when we import the flat file now it falls over due to the destination table data type being datetime.
If this is not clear please let me know and i'll try and explain more?

I got a unicode file source with this fields:
-DT_WSTR (100) originally is DT_STR(100)
-DT_WSTR (100) originally is DT_STR(100)
-DT_NTEXT
-DT_WSTR (20) originally is DT_DBTIMESTAMP
-DT_WSTR (5) originally is DT_BOOLEAN
I export a Query result to a File (see above) ...as unicode TXT destination.
OK, now I must to re-import into another DB and here is my difficult...'cause the DT_NTEXT is HTML code and I got always this error:
[Flat File Source [1050]] Error: The column delimiter for column "scheda" was not found.
Scheda field is the DT_NTEXT.
Into connection manager area I modify the advanced tab for the set-up of my fields setting all to:
Unicode string [DT_WSTR] with a variable of the len, but Try also to define everyone to the rigth type of the SQL destination like:
- DT_STR(100)
- DT_STR(100)
- DT_DTNTEXT
- DT_DBTIMESTAMP
- DT_BOOLEAN
In every type of action I see no message alert and all seem to be good, but when I try to execute got always same error...
So hope someone can help me...

When assigning permission to an authentication user to connect to a server database, if I want the user to be able to insert / update / delete data on db objects specifically tables, what permission should be assigned to that user?
My thoughts were Insert / Update / Delete; however, someone suggested that the Execute permission would do this ...
Should I be able to use a SQL Server Compact Edition sdf file as the data source for the SSIS Import and Export Wizard?
When I select the .net Framework Provider for compact Edition from the data source drop down, I get a message box with "An error occured which the SSIS Wizard was not prepared to handle. Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. (mscorlib) Specified method is not supported. (System.Data.SqlServerCe)"
We have a user with a sdf file that will no longer sync, so we wanted to get her data from sdf file tables into SQL Server tables quickly and easily. Since the SSIS wizard wouldn't work with the sdf data source, we copied SQL Server Mgmt Studio query results into an Excel spreadsheet via the Clipboard, them imported those records with SSIS. But we need a repeatable process in case this happens in the future.
We tried to reinitialize her merge replication subscription with SQL Server Mgmt studio, and with C# code, but none of that would work.
How many MS data provider options are available for SQL Server compact edition? I see ".Net Framework Data Provider for Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition" in the SSIS data source drop down, but shouldn't I also see an OLE-DB Provider for SQL Server Compact Edition?
This is all on my XP workstation where I can successfully write C# code for SQL Server Compact data access with Assembly = System.Data.SqlServerCe = C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 8Common7IDEPublicAssembliesSystem.Data.SqlServerCe.dll. So I think I have the proper tools installed.

I've made a change on my page and i can see the change on the preview its just a drop down list containing the week number.

I am developing an ETL wherein the requirement is to do an incremental load and at the same time, if there is a record that got deleted in the Source delete it from the destination too, makes sense.
The approach am doing is, pick data from the SRC and Destination, pass it onto a Merge join component, do a Full Outer join, then pass the rows to a conditional split. Newly Added records and updated records I can handle, how do I handle the Deleted records?
Am I correct in the way I am doing or there is something better to handle this?

I am a complete newbie to SSIS. I can create a simple package to transfer data between SQL instances and thats about it.
I have tableA (source data) and tableB (Destination data). TableA has 4 column and tableB has 5. I want to transfer all of the columns from tableA into TableB, but the 5th column in tableB needs to be populated with the ServerInstance name of the server TableA sits on. Do I need to have multiple data sources to achieve this? I have tried but no matter how I set it up, the Column in the destination is set to ignore.

i have built the connection b/w as400 and source to extract data from as400 to staging means in dataflow . when i have built the oledb connction for loading data to destination as oledb destination.then it will connct successfully to the db2 as destination but when execute the task then it not load data , and give provider error.
what can be good solution for this.

i'm a newbie in SSIS. i created a package to transfer data from one table to another. before the data flow, i added a Execute SQL Task package that truncate the dest table if it exists and create a new one if it doesn't.
i'll encounter an error (invalid object name) when i run the whole package but no error if i execute the tasks 1 by 1.
what's the workaround for this? thanks!

[Flat File Destination [46500]] Error: Data conversion failed. The data conversion for column "Column 0" returned status value 4 and status text "Text was truncated or one or more characters had no match in the target code page." What does this error mean exactly?
I am taking columns from a flat file source. Then I am adding some new columns then rewriting the file to a ragged file format with fixed column values. I've taken the Destination component off and it works fine. So I know it could be the destination component but what could it be? Any ideas?
I would like to replace data of some tables from STG to DEV database daily using SSIS package. Should I use "Transfer SQL Server Objects Task" to do that? Thanks.
