SQL Server 2008 :: Spatial Data Not Returning Correct Distance

Apr 29, 2015

I have the two following locations.

They're both towns in Australia , State of Victoria

Fitzroy,-37.798701, 144.978687
Footscray,-37.799736, 144.899734

After running geography::Point(Latitude, Longitude , 4326) on the latitude and longitude provided for each location, my Geography column for each row is populated with the following:

Fitzroy, 0xE6100000010C292499D53BE642C0A7406667511F6240
Footscray, 0xE6100000010C89B7CEBF5DE642C02D23F59ECA1C6240

In my SQL Query, I have the following which works out the distance between both towns. Geo being my Geography column

DECLARE @s geography = 0xE6100000010C292499D53BE642C0A7406667511F6240 -- Fitzroy
DECLARE @t geography = 0xE6100000010C89B7CEBF5DE642C02D23F59ECA1C6240 -- Footscray
SELECT @s.STDistance(@t)

The result I get is

6954.44911927616

I then looked at formatting this as in Australia we go by KM so after some searching I found two solutions one for Miles and the other KM

So I changed Select statement to look like this

select @s.STDistance(@t)/1000 -- format to KM

My result is then

6.95444911927616

When I go to google maps and do a direction request between the locations provided above it says 10.2km (depending on traffic)

Now I'm new to this spatial data within SQL, why would I get a different result from google maps?

Also I would like to round this number so its easier to use within my where statement so I'm using Ceiling as shown here:

SELECT CEILING(@s.STDistance(@t)/1000)

Is ceiling the correct way to go?

Reason I need to round this is because we are allowing the end user to search by radius so if they pass in 50km I will then say

Where CEILING(@s.STDistance(@t)/1000) < 50

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Returning Rows Within Certain Distance In Miles From City Using Longitude And Latitude

Nov 19, 2014

I've got a working query which returns all leads within a supplied proximity to a city. I followed a tutorial I googled a couple months ago (can't find it now). It works, but would love others to look the query over (provided DDL and sample data) and tell me if it's as it should be.

Two things I don't like about query:

1. I have to do a UNION to another query that retrieves everything that is in the same city in order to have complete results.
2. very slow to retrieve results (> 1 minute)

Sample DDL: 2 tables
create table dim_lead
(
date_created datetime,
[contact_first_name] varchar(20),
[contact_last_name] varchar(20),
lead_id int,

[Code] .....

Sql Query Not Returning Correct Results From Db

Feb 6, 2006

Hello.

I am new at SQL and am using SQL server express edition and im a bit stuck! I am using ASP.NET and C# in my website which is using sql database back end.

String SQLroom = "SELECT DISTINCT RoomName FROM Room INNER JOIN RoomCalendar ON Room.RoomID = RoomCalendar.RoomID WHERE Capacity = '" + reqCapacity + "' " + " AND NOT ('" + newRoomEnd + "' <= roomStartDateTime OR '" + newRoomStart + "' >= roomEndDateTime) AND (OHP = '" + ohpYesNo + "' AND AV = '" + avYesNo + "') ";

This is my SQL string... what it is trying to do is:

find the room
where the capacity is the reqcapacity entered by user
and the startdatetime and enddatetime entered by the user are not present in the table for that room capacity
and then look at whether the user requires OHP or AV facilities, which are stored in the database as either yes or no values.
The problem i am having is with the condition in the sql query... because the user may require an OHP and not AV, but then the room returned "`could" have AV facilities, as it wouldnt make a difference to them if it was there or not, basically, the yes condition has to be satisfied.

Not sure whether i should be using AND, or OR? or a combination.

Any ideas gratefully appreciated....

Returning SqlDecimal With The Correct Scale

SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(sqlstr.ToString(), conn);
SqlDataAdapter adap = new SqlDataAdapter(cmd);
SqlParameter para = new SqlParameter();
para.ParameterName = "@Item_Key";
para.SqlDbType = SqlDbType.UniqueIdentifier;
para.SqlValue = Item_Key;
cmd.Parameters.Add(para);

para.SqlDbType = SqlDbType.UniqueIdentifier;
para.SqlValue = Company_Key;
cmd.Parameters.Add(para);
DataSet ds = new DataSet();
adap.Fill(ds);
if (ds.Tables.Count > 0)
{
if (ds.Tables[0].Rows.Count > 0)
{

retvalue = SqlDecimal.ConvertToPrecScale(new SqlDecimal((decimal)ds.Tables[0].Rows[0]["Price"]),12,3);
}
}
}
}
catch (Exception e)
{
throw e;
}
return SqlDecimal.ConvertToPrecScale(retvalue, 12, 3);
}
};

The value in the record is a decimal 12,3 which is 0.950 and when it is returned from this UDF it is 1. Using the debuger the value is 0.950 until it gets to the calling program were it
is 1. I have looked for an answer all over the place with not much luck Can anyone help I will be in their debt.

SQL Server 2008 :: Table Returning Duplicates When Joined On

Jul 7, 2015

We currently have an application whereby the user will come along sign up add some information about them, choose what interests / hobbies they're in to and then click save.After completing the sigh up they're able to search for other individuals within locations (look at this functionality as a dating site) We currently have a stored procedure whereby when the user clicks Advance Search they fill in all the fields they filled in when signing up and when they click search we return all users that match the data the user has selected. This part is working correctly.

The issue im having is extending this stored procedure to take a user defined table type which has two columns UserId and ActivityId both columns are nullable.This user defined table type is referred to in two places, when the user signs up and when they do an advance search.When the user does an advance search he / she can choose a list of hobbies / interests this will then be passed in to the database and I will join on my User_Activities table to find the users that have the Activities passed in.When I join on this table I get duplicate records purely because one user may have 5 - 10 activities depending on how active the individual is. My current stored procedure looks like this

@Ambition int = null,
@Body int = null,
@Diet int = null,
@Drinking int = null,
@Ethnicity int = null,
@Exercise int = null,
@HeightFrom int = null,

[code]...

So my question is how can I select all users that match the criteria passed in, as well as finding the users that match the activities passed in (the user can either match all of them or a minimum of 1). Also my User_Activities has two columns UserId and ActivityId identical to the user defined table type

SQL Server 2008 :: Why CDC Returning Insert / Delete When UPDATE A Row In Table

Mar 15, 2013

I am experimenting with using CDC to track user changes in our application database. So far I've done the following:

-- ENABLE CDC ON DV_WRP_TEST
USE dv_wrp_test
GO
EXEC sys.sp_cdc_enable_db
GO

-- ENABLE CDC TRACKING ON THE AVA TABLE IN DV_WRP_TEST
USE dv_wrp_test

[Code] ....

The results shown above are what I expect to see. My problem occurs when I use our application to update the same column in the same table. The vb.net application passes a Table Valued Parameter to a stored procedure which updates the table. Below is the creation script for the stored proc:

SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO

if exists (select * from sysobjects where id = object_id('dbo.spdv_AVAUpdate') and sysstat & 0xf = 4)
drop procedure dbo.spdv_AVAUpdate

[Code] ....

When I look at the results of CDC, instead of operations 3 and 4, I see 1 (DELETE) and 2 (INSERT) for the change that was initiated from the stored procedure:

-- GET CDC RESULTS FOR CHANGES TO AVA TABLE
USE dv_wrp_test
GO
SELECT *
FROM cdc.dbo_AVA_CT
GO

--RESULTS SHOW OPERATION 1 (DELETE) AND 2 (INSERT) INSTEAD OF 3 AND 4
--__$start_lsn__$end_lsn__$seqval__$operation__$update_maskAvaKeyAvaDescAvaArrKeyAvaSAPAppellationID
--0x0031E84F000000740008NULL0x0031E84F00000074000230x02119Test26NULL
--0x0031E84F000000740008NULL0x0031E84F00000074000240x02119Test36NULL
--0x0031E84F00000098000ANULL0x0031E84F00000098000310x0F119Test36NULL
--0x0031E84F00000098000ANULL0x0031E84F00000098000420x0F119Test46NULL

Why this might be happening, and if so, what can be done to correct it? Also, is there any way to get the user id associated with the CDC?

SQL Server 2008 :: Returning Unique Rows - Read Date Field?

Jul 26, 2015

I have the following query:

Select p.Id [SenderId], p.Username, up.PhotoId,
CASE
WHEN mr.ReadDate is null then 1 -- New message
ELSE 0 -- Message has been read
END AS NewMessage,
p.LastLoggedIn, p.LoggedIn

[Code] ....

The above query returns me all messages (inbox functionality) that have been sent to mr.ReceipientId, the issue I have is when I send another email to the recipient the readdate field will be null, and the other emails linked to the recipient which have also been sent via me will have a readdate date. This causes duplicate rows to appear due to the case statement, I'm trying to figure out if / how it is possible to only display the one row per conversation and set newmessage to 1 if there is an un-read message otherwise show 0 ?

So instead of showing this:

2Person102015-07-26 17:07:24.9370
2Person112015-07-26 17:07:24.9370

I'm trying to get it to look like this:

2Person112015-07-26 17:07:24.9370

Or if we have no new mail (read date is not null) then it will appear like this, and I can confirm when there is no new mail it works as expected.

2Person102015-07-26 17:07:24.9370

SQL Server 2008 :: Stored Procedure Returning Different Datasets Based On Input Variable

Sep 15, 2015

I'm seeing where previous developers have used a single stored procedure for multiple reports, where each report required different columns to be returned. They are structured like this:

CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.GetSomeData (@rptType INT, @customerID INT)
AS
BEGIN
IF @rptType = 1
BEGIN
SELECT LastName, FirstName, MiddleInitial

[Code] ....

As you can see, the output depends on the given report type. I've personally never done this, but that's more because it's the way I learned as opposed to any hard facts to support it.

So what I'm looking for is basically 2-fold.

SQL Server 2008 :: Elegant Way For Returning All Results When Subquery Returns No Results?

Mar 25, 2015

I have four tables: Customer (CustomerId INT, CountyId INT), County (CountyId INT), Search(SearchId INT), and SearchCriteria (SearchCriteriaId INT, SearchId INT, CountyId INT, [others not related to this]).

I want to search Customer based off of the Search record, which could have multiple SearchCriteria records. However, if there aren't any SearchCriteria records with CountyId populated for a given Search, I want it to assume to get all Customer records, regardless of CountyId.

Right now, I'm doing it this way.

DECLARE @SearchId INT = 100
SELECT * FROM Customer WHERE
CountyId IN
(
SELECT CASE WHEN EXISTS(SELECT CountyId FROM SearchCriteria WHERE SearchId = @SearchId)
THEN SearchCriteria.CountyId

[Code] .....

This works; it just seems cludgy. Is there a more elegant way to do this?

SQL Server 2012 :: Data Grouping On 2 Levels But Only Returning Conditional Data

May 7, 2014

I think I am definitely thrashing and am not getting anywhere on something I think should be pretty simple to accomplish: I need to pull the total amounts for compartments with different products which are under the same manifest and the same document number conditionally based on if the document types are "Starting" or "Ending" but the values come from the "Adjust" records.

So here is the DDL, sample data, and the ideal return rows

CREATE TABLE #InvLogData
(
Id BIGINT, --is actually an identity column
Manifest_Id BIGINT,
Doc_Num BIGINT,
Doc_Type CHAR(1), -- S = Starting, E = Ending, A = Adjust
Compart_Id TINYINT,

[Code] ....

I have tried a combination of the below statements but I keep coming back to not being able to actually grab the correct rows.

SELECT DISTINCT(column X)
FROM #InvLogData
GROUP BY X
HAVING COUNT(DISTINCT X) > 1

One further minor problem: I need to make this a set-based solution. This table grows by a couple hundred thousand rows a week, a co-worker suggested using a <shudder/> cursor to do the work but it would never be performant.

ADO - Connection::Execute() Returning Zero Records Affected After Successful Insertion Of Data In SQL Server 2005

Apr 11, 2008

Hello,

For the following ADO Connection::Execute() function the "recAffected" is zero, after a successful insertion of data, in SQL Server 2005. In SQL Server Express I am getting the the number of records affected value correctly.

_variant_t recAffected;
connectionObject->Execute(SQL, &recAffected, adCmdText );

The SQL string is

BEGIN
DELETE FROM MyTable WHERE Column_1 IN ('abc', 'def' )
END
BEGIN
INSERT INTO MyTable (Column_1, Column_2, Cloumn_3 )
SELECT 'abc', 'data11', 'data12'
UNION ALL
SELECT 'def', 'data21', 'data22'
END

But see this, for SQL Server 2005 "recAffected" has the correct value of 2 when I have just the insert statement.

INSERT INTO MyTable (Column_1, Column_2, Cloumn_3 )
SELECT 'abc', 'data11', 'data12'
UNION ALL
SELECT 'def', 'data21', 'data22'

For SQL Server 2005 in both cases the table got successfully inserted two rows and the HRESULT of Execute() function returns S_OK.

Does the Execute function has any problem with a statement like the first one (with delete and insert) on a SQL Server 2005 DB?

Why the "recAffected" has a value zero for the first SQL (with delete and insert) on a SQL Server 2005 DB? Do I need to pass any options to Execute() function for a SQL Server 2005 DB?

When connecting to SQL Server Express the "recAffected" has the correct values for any type of SQL statements.

Thank you for your time. Any help greatly appreciated.

I need to bring back everything from column 1 and 3, but just the single instance of 1 from column 2 since it contains all the same number. All the data is collected in a single select statement.

Looping To Get Correct Data

I'd like to essentially loop through a SQL table to display the correct results. The workflow is the user query's the database and returns records (by property ID). In the return there are duplicate records being returned - in this case, two property owners returned with the same property ID.

How would I loop through the SQL statement in the application (code) to identify when the property id's are the same and display only one owner for that property?
