i was trying to use the XML read functionality using t-SQL for XML attached.The column is coming with the token names and token-values in XML format and we are using the XML nodes() functionality to read the token names and token value.I am able to read only the parent token names and its values(using the sql attached) and could not be able to get the child token names and its values.how can i acheive the tokenNames with its values with the SQL query.i am attaching both SQL script which i am using and the XML entity.

Hello there,
I need to get the last value (status) from a child table. I try to simplify the problem with the following example.
Create Table Users
(
UserId int,
Lastname nvarchar(50)
)
Create Table UserStatus
(
UserId int,
Date datetime,
StatusId int
)
Create Table Status
(
StatusId int
Status nvarchar(50)
)
A user will go through all Status one by one. (1) Registered -> (2) In progress -> (3) authorized.
Now I want to know which users are in progress (2) but a simple select statement like:
Select LastName from Users Inner Join Users.UsersId = UserStatus.UserId Where UsersStatus.StatusId = 2
Will not return the wanted records because all authorized Users have been in this status.
I hope you understand the problem and can help me out.

Hi,
I have a SQL statement that returns a hierachy
it returns ..
-NEWSPAPER
-QUALS
- TIMES
- TELEGRAPH
-MIDS
- DAILY MAIL
- EXPRESS
- EVENING STANDARD
- POPS
- THE SUN
I want the statement to include childnumber column so for newspaper it would count the total number of children below it, so in the above example newspaper would be 9 and for the mids it would equal 3? and pops = 1. does anyone know how i can do this in SQL?

I am working with a pretty complicated medical XML document and I am trying to query out lab information. The problem I am having is that there are many repeating child nodes and I can’t seem to get all the info I need without creating a bunch of columns. Here is a snippet of the XML; In attempting to shorten it up I may have left some elements unclosed but I hope not create table

I can grab all the lab names alright but I am tiring to also grab the lab components as well. A lab could have just one component or it could have a dozen and I will never know ahead of time how many there are.
The following query works ok but would like to be able to grab all the components for a given lab in one column instead of making several columns incrementing the singleton each time. Is there a way that I can iterate through without creating a bunch of columns?

We have SQL Server 008 R2 failover clustered instance.
Installation and everthing went smooth. But I'm getting a weired error
Unable to connect to SQL Server clustered instance from one of the nodes
When SQL Server Resources are on sql1:
Connect from SSMS from sql2--> NOT Able to connect to SQL instance (A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. I have a custom essbase application/db source that I wish to connect to from SSRS 2005. I have all the required software installed (APS / SP2 .3050) etc.
I can connect to the datasource in SSRS 2005, but when I'm trying to build the query on the cube, I see under the member properties of all dimensions, the following piece of line
"error occurred retrieving child nodes: null"
Also, when I try to drag my Measures into the query section (or any other dimension for that matter of fact, though that defies logic) I get the following error
Cannot perform cube view operation. OLAP error (1260046): Unknown Member PARENT_UNIQUE_NAME used in query
I am new to using ESSBASE with SSRS 2005, and hence cannot make much sense of the above two errors.
Any insight or a re-direction to similar posts with solutions will be greatly appreciated.

I have a database which contains a stored procedure. The stored procedure contains an update script to a different database. The user group have access to the database that stores the stored procedure but do not have update rights to the database that contains the data that is being updated.
Therefore, every time the user group executes the stored procedure it fails because the security permissions do not propagate to the next database.
Is there anything I can do to get around this without grant dbo permissions to the whole user group.

I have a column with XML data stored in it. I need to update that column several times with new values for different nodes. I've written a CLR function to update the XML quickly but the update is always based on the initial value of the xmlData column. I was hoping that the subsequent updates would be based on the new data from the prior update (each xmlTable has several newData rows). Do I have to make this a table valued function and use cross apply?
UPDATE xmlTable
SET xmlTable.xmlData = Underwriting.UpdateByDynamicValue(xmlTable.xmlData,newData.NodeID,newData.NewValue)

So at the moment, I don't have a function by the name CONCATENATE. What I like to do is to list all those different values that go with a single CASE_ID to appear as a a comma separate list. You might have a better way of doing without even writing a function
So the output would look like :

I have been trying to convert an existing table that used adjacency list model (parentid,childid) to a table that use hierarchy Id type. So early on, I notice my original data does contains multiple roots. So I took a step to create dummy nodes to ensure all nodes fall into a single root structure. Another important fact is that each child node can have multiple parents.
My original source table contains 22461 records, when running the query below step 2 produces explosive number of records around 175,000+ records. I spent hours study the result and couldn't understand what actually causing this, I ran it against small set of test data I didn't seem the issue caused by child with multiple parents.

How do I filter a list of Employees where the Sum of "VALIDATED" hours is less than 80? For example.
Here is the flat table
SELECT EMP_NO, hours, IsValidated, rate_type
FROM Pay_Records
WHERE pay_period_id = 2
Order by EMP_NO
Output will be something like this
12345 | 2 |true |REG
12345 | 15 |false |OVR
12345 | 30 |true |OVER
33334 |2| true |REG
Total Validated hours for the Employee 12345 will be 32 NOT 47. How do I list employees who worked less than 80 validated hours. The hours are validated only when it is true.

Looking at an execution plan today I noticed something I've not seen before. The plan includes a non clustered index seek, followed by a RID lookup on the heap. The output list for the index seek contains the expected "Bmk" column (in this case "Bmk1473"), but also includes "IsBaseRow1475". This isn't a column from the table.

I have two tables, a dates table and a values table. They are joined on the date column.The date table has a range, say from today as far as 20 days from now, incrementing by 1 day each row.The values table may have a row for a day, and may not. If the day has a value I want to display that value.If the day does not have a value in the values table I want to display the last known value.
I think this can be done with windowing functions in a set based manner but have not been able to work it out. I have done it procedurally but im not happy with that at all, and really want to see if this is possible in a set based manner.Below is some simplified code to allow testing with sample data.

We noticed a deadlock 3-4 weeks ago on a table (table1) and deadlock graph was captured.
When I am analyzing the deadlock graph, page number using DBCC PAGE, I am getting the object id for a different table (table2). But deadlock graph shows the name of the object as table1.
Is it possible that subsequent defragmentation of indexes would have caused the respective page id to got re-allocated to a different table? I checked the deadlock graph lately only after 3-4 weeks.

When I try to open the subscribers tab in the publisher and distributor properties in SQL Enterprise Manager I get the following error:
SQL Enterprise Manager could not retrieve the list of registered subscribers.
Error 8152: String or binary data will be truncated
Anyone who has experienced similar problems or has a solution?
