SQL Server 2008 :: Single Script To Remove Secondary Log Files

I am new to SQL and I haven't written any scripts in the past. I thought I would give it a go. Basically, I am trying to write a script that will check if a database has more than one log files, free the VLFs that belong to the secondary log files and then remove them. I created a database named rDb as this link suggests and followed the steps.

It works. However, I want to have to run just 1 script that will do the entire job. This is what I have gotten so far and it doesn't work:

I am configuring log shipping. On the secondary server, I already restored the DB.From the primary server, I was following all the instructions on how to. Now this is the problem. I click on ADD button to connect to the secondary server. I put in the IPInstanceName and the DB. I also chose option 3 (No, the secondary database is initialized), clicked OK after all the option, now getting this error.

I have a SQL Server 2000 database with a primary data file (MDF) and a secondary data file (NDF). I would like to remove the secondary file and only have the MDF. Is this possible?

SQL 2012 (Seondary Replica)
SQL 2012 (Secondary Replica over WAN site)
ThereĀ are database replicating on three SQL servers. WAN line is having performance issue because of limited bandwidth I have to remove SQL secondary replica over WAN site temporarily and add it again later when the WAN line is upgraded with between bandwidth What is the best practice to remove secondary replica and replicating database and add later from SQL management studio without interruptionsĀ on databases?

I read , When sql server Database having multiple data files within single filegroup then sql server writes data in multiple proportional file algorithm where the amount of data written to a file is proportionate to the amount of free space in that file, compared to other files in the filegroup.
so if there is no filegroups created and multiple secondary files are attached in databse , is there same way data stored and writes data in multiple files by the same algorithm or any different way.

We are using log shipping and we would like to remove all transfered and applied journal (in the primary box).
We have the intentionto use a trigger like this :

(some time, more that 1 file are applied in one shot ...

Any solution to remove all the files generated before the last one given by the query ?
Any other solutions (sql wizard gives the possiblity to to remove file after a laps of time 1hour, 1day...).
I am looking for the table that contains all the journal files (that we can see when we try to retore a db) ?

I have created a phone list and am using a union to be able to display letter category. However, what I would like to do is only show the letter category if their is an employee with the corresponding last name.
For example, if someone does not have a last name starting with "Z", then "Z" should not show up on my report.

I have a Table-valued Function already defined in my DB. When I look at it's Properties, it lists Encrypted TRUE.
How can I set Encrypted to FALSE? Is there a t-sql command to ALTER the Function to set Encrypted False?
(fyi, I am syadmin and local admin on this SQL 2008 R2 box)

I am working with a bunch of records that have duplicates on the Persid and the intPercentID where there are duplicates I want to remove when I stick them in the temp table, I tried join on tempo table and doing not exists but still inserts, so now I am trying a merge but same thing. how can I keep duplicates from being inserted in the temp table. I made a cursor as well but its slow as heck, but it does work. trying better ways.

I have tried to set up the Management Data Warehouse on one of our production servers, but it is not working (not collecting any data) so I want to completely remove it and try the installation again. There does not seem to be any remove/uninstall option.

I have a database with 2 log files VE_log and VE_log2 (the split is left from legacy system with limited disk space). I want to eliminate the 2nd log.
I've tried SHRINKFILE (EMPTYFILE), which of course reduces the file to the default minimum pages, SHRINKFILE (TRUNCATEONLY), SHRINKDATABASE (VE), and in every case the ALTER DATABASE REMOVE FILE command fails cause the log isn't empty.
Ideas???

I'm converting DBs from SQL7 to SQL2K; the previous owner & server issues had created secondary data and/or log files. The size of the databases, and the configuration of the new server, do not warrant those secondary files. In restoring the databases from SQL7 to SQL2K, either by detach/copy/attach or backup/restore, is there a method for deleting the secondary files without, of course, losing any data?!

Hi all..!If I want to split an SQL DB into several physical files (as its 500GBdisk ran out of space, won't even run shrinks any more, and we boughtanother 500GB disk to add to the PC)then what is the difference between:Adding another File to the primary group which will reside on the newgroup;Adding another file in another group.We do not want to set any db objects (Tables, indexes)to a secondary file, as this will involve lengthy data movingoperations. We would like the DB to continue working from where it isutilizing the added space in a contigous (striped) manner.Will striping occur in both cases? as I understand striping it meansthat our stuck SQL Server will awake back to life as it will now have500GB more data for its DB, even though we haven't set any of itsobjects (tables, indexes) to explicitly use the secondary NDF file onthe new disk?or will it only utilize the new space if we set some objects to resideon that NDF?for example if we run large queries which crash now (due to lack ofspace) when we add the second drive will they start to work as theprocess will grow striped from the full drive to the new drive, even ifall the queries' source tables are all still set to the old drive?Thanks for any replies?

I'm presented with a problem where I have a database table which must be migrated via a "custom tool", moving the data into a new table which has special character requirements that didn't exist in the source database. My data resides in an SQL Server 2008R2 instance.
I envision a one-time query which will loop through selected records and replace the offending characters with --, however I'm having trouble understanding how this works.
There are roughly 2500 records which meet the criteria of "contains bad characters", frequently containing multiple separate bad chars, and the table contains roughly 100000 rows.
Special Characters are defined as #%&*:<>?/{}|~ and ..
While the field is called "Filename" it isn't always so, it is a parent/child table where foldernames are also stored.
Example data:
Tablename = Items
ItemID Filename ListID
1 Badfile<2015>.docx 15
2 Goodfile.docx 15
3 MoreBad#.docx 15
4 Dog&Cat#17.pdf 15
5 John's "Special" Folder 16
The examples I'm finding are all oriented around SELECT statements, to change the output of what I see returned, however I'd rather just fix the entire column using an UPDATE. Initial testing using REPLACE fails because I don't always have a single character as the bad thing in a string.
In a better solution, I found an example using a User Defined Function to modify the output of a select, but I cannot use that UDF in an UPDATE.
My alternative is to learn enough C# to modify the "migration tool" to do this in-transit, but I know even less about C# than I do of SQL.
I gather I want to use @@ROWCOUNT to loop through the rows but I really can't put it all together in a cohesive way.

I have multiple databases in the server and all my databases have tables: stdVersions, stdChangeLog. The stdVersions table have field called DatabaseVersion which stored the version of the database. The stdChangeLog table have a field called ChangedOn which stored the date of any change made in the database.
I need to write a query/stored procedure/function that will return all the database names, version and the date changed on. The results should look something like this:
DatabaseName DatabaseVersion DateChangedOn
OK5_AAGLASS 5.10.1.2 2015/01/12
OK5_SHOPRITE 5.9.1.6 2015/01/10
OK5_SALDANHA 5.10.1.2 2014/12/23
The results should be ordered by DateChangedOn.

I have tried everything I found on Google, but nothing seems to be working. Already Ran alter command set multi_user, but getting an error.

Ends up with rows:

I'm trying to avoid a large amount of manual data manipulation.
Here's the background: Legacy system that has (well let's call apples apples) pretty much no method of enforcing data integrity, which has caused a fairly decent amount of garbage data to be inserted in some tables. Pulling one of the [Individuals] table from within this Legacy system and inserting it into a production system, into the Table schema currently in place to track [Individuals] in this Production system.
Problem: Inserting the information is easy, how to deduplicate the records that exist within the staging table that the legacy [Individuals] table has been dumped into in production, prior to insertion. (Wanting to do this programmatically with SQL or SSIS preferably, so that I can alter it later to allow for updating existing/inserting new)
Staging Table Schema:

Scenario: There are records that duplicate the JJISID, though this value is supposed to be unique for every individual. The SYSID is just a Clustered Index (I'm assuming) within the Legacy system and will be most likely dropped when inserted into the Production [Inviduals] table. There are records that are missing their JJISID, though this isn't supposed to happen either, but have valid information within SSN/DOB/Name/etc that can be merged into the correct record that has a JJISID assigned. There is really no data conformity, some records have NULLS for everything except JJISID, or some records will have all the [Individuals] information excluding the JJISID.
Currently I am running the following SQL just to get a list of the records that have a duplicate JJISID (I have other's that partition by Name/DOB/etc and will adapt whatever I come up with to be used for those as well):

Unfortunately, I don't think that will accomplish what I'm looking for - I have some records that are duplicated 6 times, and I'm wanting to keep the values within these that aren't NULL.
Basically what I'm looking for, is to update any column with a NULL value to the corresponding Duplicate [Individuals] record value for that column.
**EDIT - Example, Record 1 has a JJISID with NULL NameFirst & NameLast BUT Record 2 has the same JJISID and values for NameFirst & NameLast. I'm wanting to propogate the NameFirst & NameLast from Record2 into Record1

Recently we had multiple production failures because one database was in single-user mode. I am trying to recreate this scenario to write a script that will kick out that connection that was holding database in single-user.In SSMS window 1 I run the following code:
use master
go
alter database test
set single_user
with rollback immediate
[code]....
Yes, it shows one record, but the database name is master, not test. And indeed, I run it from the context of master. Also tried sp_who, sp_who2, sys.dm_exec_requests - nothing works. For dm_exec_requests it shows nothing because it does not run at the current moment.Any other solutions to catch this SPID with a script?

I have a table called 'AssetPlacements' that shows the dates when certain objects (AssID) were placed at certain locations (LocID).

I'd like to show the assets with a start date and end date for the placement of the asset.
The start date to be the placement date and the end date to be the next placement date of the asset.
Where there is no next placement date to then show the end date as the current date, so hopefully the table will show as the following.

1112015-05-01 2015-05-06
2122015-05-06 2015-05-09
3132015-05-09 [GetDate()]

The number of files to retain for SQL Server Logs is set to 99. When I expand the SQL Server Logs node in SQL Server Mgt Studio it shows the current log file through Archive#49. The oldest archive file is dated 2015/05/26. If I select that archive in SQL Server Mgt Studio it shows me the details and entries of that archive file. Yet when I go to the directory on SQL Server for the log files there are only the 5 most recent files. I have searched for '.trc' files on the entire drive and have found no other files.
How can SQL Server Mgt Studio show archive files that have no corresponding archive file in the directory that is supposed to contain the log files?

I am trying to locate the mdf,log and bak files but I am not seeing folder (MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER) the only folder I see there are 90,100,110 and Report builder.
I located the properties of one of the databases below right clicking the properties on SSMS, but when I physically go there, I don't find that folder.

I gave myself all the permissions under the security tab fro the folder Microsoft SQL Server but still nothing.
