SQL Server 2008 :: Startup Without Full-Text Service

Feb 9, 2015

I am running SQL 2008 R2. I have SQL Full-Text Search installed (part of a standard Automated build) - but disabled and switched-off as the applications don't need it. However as a result I get SQL Server error 9954:

SQL Server failed to communicate with filter daemon launch service (Windows error: Windows Error: hr = 0x80070422(failed to retrieve text for this error)). Full-Text filter daemon process failed to start. Full-text search functionality will not be available.

appear in the event / error logs everytime I start SQL server. Is it possible to suppress this error (other than by starting the SQL Full-text service) ...

Thesaurus Support In SQL Server Full Text Service

May 20, 2006

Hi,

I€™ve been trying to add keywords to the thesaurus used for SQL Server 2005 Full Text services but do not seems to get any improved results.
For example, I have a catalogue of article titles which contains titles such as €˜CRM€™ and then some others use the words €˜Customer Relationship Management€™, the ideal solution I would have thought was SQL Servers thesaurus support, I€™ve been though and added the values:

<expansion>
       customer relationship management
       crm
 </expansion>

to the txGlobal.xml file in the SQL Servers FTData directory, I then amended by test query to use this clause:
FORMSOF(THESAURUS,"CRM")
The idea being that when I search for CRM it will bring back articles with Customer Relationship Management also. However I€™m just getting results for the same results as for the word 'CRM' and no expansion is taking place it would seem.

Would anyone be able to clarify what the best approach to making this work would be:

Do I need to restart the SQL Server FullText service after making any changes to the XML files?
(Done this, no sucess)

Do I need to restart the SQL Server service after making any changes to the XML files?
(Done this, no sucess)

Do you need to re-populate the full text catalogues after making a change the XML files?
(Done this, no sucess)

If this syntax correct when trying to utilise the thesaurus?
CONTAINSTABLE (Article_Metadata, *, €˜FORMSOF(THESAURUS,"CRM")€™ )
(It doesn;t give any errors, just no improved results over:
CONTAINSTABLE (Article_Metadata, *, €˜"CRM"€™ )

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Ed

SQL Server 2008 :: Full Text Search On Indexed View

Mar 25, 2015

I'm creating Indexed view by JOINING multiple tables and trying to create FULL TEXT search index. Unique column is generated by concatenating to ID columns from different table. I can successfully able to create unique index however when trying to create FULLTEXT INDEX getting below error.

"A full-text search key must be a unique, non-nullable, single-column index which is not offline, is not defined on a non-deterministic or imprecise nonpersisted computed column, does not have a filter, and has maximum size of 900 bytes. Choose another index for the full-text key."

The message clearly says the column should be single-column index, non-deterministic.

Error: SQL Server Failed To Communicate With Full-Text Service

Apr 9, 2007

Hello,
I've enabled full-text indexing on one of my tables, and the following query used to work:
SELECT *
FROM TempAttachment
WHERE CONTAINS(attachment, 'text')

However, now I get the following error:
Msg 9955, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
SQL server failed to communicate with Full-Text Service (msftesql). The system administrator must make sure that same service account is used for both services and the service account has the permission to auto start the full-text service.

I've checked the configuration and verified that both accounts are the same. I've restarted the services, and tried rebooting, and still no luck. I did a search on this error, and found this page from MSDN, which doesn't help me much: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa337365.aspx.

Has anybody come across this before? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

SQL Server 2008 :: Full-text Search Suddenly Returning Error

Jul 8, 2015

This morning, when I look at my error logs, the following appears;

Msg 0, Level 11, State 0, Line 0

A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.

Msg 0, Level 20, State 0, Line 0

A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.

If I remove the contains() part from the SQL Stored Procedure, it stills runs. So, in other words, suddenly contains() started making the query crash.

I'm running SQL Server 2008 R2.

add components to an existing instance of sql server' is grayed out,
meaning I can't pick this option. What must I do to get this working

Full-Text Indexing And Service Packs

May 3, 2004

I have SQL Server 7.0 installed in a Fail-over cluster and currently, Full-text indexing is not installed, since our full-text index resides on a different physical server. In an attempt to consolidate our servers I am looking at installing full-text indexing on our cluster. I understand that there will probably be issues getting the Full-text indexing service to fail-over, but I'm not too concerned with that.

What I am concerned with, is, will I need to re-install the latest SQL Server 7.0 service pack? Does anyone know of any security holes with an un-patched version of the full-text indexing service?

Any advice on this situation is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Full-Text Search - Service Not Responding

Sep 17, 2007

Hi all

I've just had my admin guy start the Full-Text Search service (under Support Services) for a server here. Actually he did it a couple of hours ago. I've checked his computer and the icon shows "started" (ie green traffic light).

From my Enterprise manager, the Full-Text Search icon is still showing "stop" ie red traffic light. Yes, in case you are wondering, I've refreshed, closed and reopened Enterprise manager, and waited quite a while, but my code is definitely still failing on this. Identical code on an identical recordset in another server (which has the full-text icon "green") works fine.

I've already set full-text for the catalog and
SELECT fulltextserviceproperty('IsFulltextInstalled')
returns 1 for this catalog.

My quetion is: does enabling Full-Text Searching require a Server restart, or is there something else I can try first?

Thanks in advance

SQL 2012 :: Full Text Engine Service In Windows Clustered Environments

May 27, 2014

In SQL Server 2005, the SQL Server full text engine (i.e., Microsoft Full Text Filter Daemon Launcher windows service) was installed as a Generic Service cluster resource in a Windows clustered environment.

However, in SQL Server 2012, the full text engine is not appearing as a "resource" within "Failover Cluster Manager" after installation. Do we need to manually configure the full text engine as a Failover Cluster Manager "resource" for SQL 2012? Or is this not necessary? If it needs to be configured, how do you go about doing it (i.e., what resource dependencies would you setup, etc.)

SP2 Fails On Cluster - Domain Group Cannot Be Validated For The Service Full-Text Search

Jul 10, 2007

Greetings,

I'm totally stuck on this issue and would really appreciate any advice. Here's what's going on...

I'm trying to install SP2 on a SQL 2005 Std x64 cluster and all the components upgrade except the DB Engine, which fails with this error saying the domain group (not the service account) could not be validated for the full-text search service.

I've rebooted both nodes. I've verified that the domain group exists. I even removed the full text search component and I still get the same error.

I've reviewed this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915846
But the ftsgroup registry value mentioned does not exists. I assume it only shows up after sp2 is installed.

Interestingly, I couldn't uninstall full-text search unless I passed the FTSCLUSTERGROUP parameter to the setup.exe command line remove command.

The OS is Windows Server 2003 Ent x64 SP2. Not a domain controller. I'm upgrading from the RTM version of SQL Server.

I've posted the relevant parts of the summary and log files below.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

- Chris

Server Startup / 100 % Cpu Utilization While Recovering Database @ Startup

Dec 7, 2000

database : MS SQL server ver 6.50.201
problem: server startup / server time out
details
SQL server shows usage of 100 % CPU utilization, if started automatically / manually. and does not proceed / hangs up(server time out), but win nt operates extremely slow.

The background of the situation in brief is as stated below.
The errorlog was found to have the messages
warning : OPEN OBJECTS parameter may be too low.
Attempt was made to free up descriptors in localdes()
Run sp_configure to increase parameter value.

Error : 644, severity : 21, state; state 1
the non clustered leaf row entry for page 2 row 1 was not found in index page 40 indexid 2 database 'tempdb'

Error : 2620 severity 21 state 3

Action taken
I used the sp_option to increase the open objects from default 500 to 1000, and the LE threshold maximum value to 400 from the default 200.
after which I used reconfigure go and restarted the computer to take the effect. The following did work fine and server was working ok. But then from yesterday I am having the problem that the MS SQL sever is utilizing the cpu to 98 - 99 % and I am not able to connect to the server.
I tried to start the server with the minimal configuration by specifying the -f option in the service manager start up options, it showed the following message
00/12/07 10:40:49.73 ods Unable to connect. The maximum number of '5' configured user connections are already connected. System Administrator can configure to a higher value with sp_configure.
00/12/07 10:40:50.02 ods Unable to connect. The maximum number of '5' configured user connections are already connected. System Administrator can configure to a higher value with sp_configure.

afterwhich I tried with the option of starting the sql server with the option -c -f
which in the event detail of the win nt shows
"mesg 18109: Recovery dbid 6 ckpt(55813,8) oldest tras= (55813,0)"

The open procedure for service "MSSQLServer" in DLL "SQLCTR60.DLL" has taken longer than the established wait time to complete. The wait time in milliseconds is shown in the data.
DB-LIBRARY error - SQL Server connection timed out.

and in the errorlog present in MSSQLLOG directory

The dbid is / was 6 for both the instances, the database which is having this dbid is database name "AM" and is having above 1300 tables (approx)
what could be the problem and solution for it?
kindly help me out of this situation.

SQL Server 2000 Full Text Search (extract Pieces Of Text)

Sep 12, 2007

Hello everyone !
I want to perform Full Text Search with SQL Server 2000. My documents (.doc, .xls, .txt, .pdf) are stored in a SQL Server field which is binary (the type of the column is image).
I would like to know, how you can extract pieces of text from the documents.
Example:
I have a ASPX page with codebehind in C# making the search in a table in SQL server that is full text indexed.
I make a search looking for the word "peace", than SQL server will take care about the search and return it to me the rows that match with that. But also I'd like to extract the 50 characters before and after where sql server found the word "peace" to show in the result page.
Does anyone has any idea how to work around it ?
 Best regards.
Yannick

Validation Of SSIS Service Upon Startup

Mar 7, 2007

In the SP1 update of SSIS there was a call from the SSIS service that would attempt to validate itself against the http://crl.microsoft.com web site. If the SSIS service didn't have access to the internet then it would timeout and not start the service. In our company we have our development systems behind a firewall which only allows for limited internet access due to it being a development system.

Does the installation of SP2 remove this authentication restriction?

SQL Executive - Service Startup Account Error

Aug 5, 1998

Hello all,

I just inherited a SQL Server that was set up by a non-DBA. It`s running NT 4.0 and SQL Server 6.50 - 6.50.201 (the vendor hasn`t certified the product on SP4). I am trying to change the SQL Executive Service to use a non-system logon account. The account that I want to use is running SQL Executive on 9 other servers.

I went into Usrmgr and added the account to the administrators group. Made sure that it has rights to:
log on as a service, log on as a batch job, increase quotas, act as part of the operating system, replace a process level token.

When I try to change to that id in services, I get the following error:

"cannot set the startup parameters for SQL Executive service. Error 1057 occurred. The account name is invalid or does not exist."

Looking in Technet, I found that if "log on as a service" isn`t set you could get this message but I`ve check/re-checked, had someone else check and it`s set.

Any help would be appreciated!

SQL Service Management Studio Express (x64) Crashing On Startup

I've checked to make sure I am allowing multiple protocols.

I am not able to get a response from the following:

HResult 0xFFFFFFFF, Level 16, State 1

shing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failu

allow remote connections..
Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft SQL Native Client : Login timeout expired.

The instance is running as I can connect to it through Visual Studio 2005.

What did I do wrong? I could really use this application in order for me to develop websites. It's sort of a pain to go to another computer to use the more powerful features of SQL Server 2005 Server management Studio (standard edition).

Help me... somebody please help me.

On a fairly new install of SQL 2005 64-bit, upon bootup the Active Directory Helper Serivice is aborting with the error 3221225572 (0XC0000064). When an attempt is made to start the service manually the following error appears: "Windows could not start teh SQL Server Active Directory Helper on Local Computer. For more infromation, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to the service-specific error code - 1073741724."

The service is strating up under the network services account, which I am suspicous may be a problem. Currently the SQL server is running under SQL 2005 SP2 with no post service pack hotfixes. Do you have any advice on how to get the service to launch without errors?

SQL Server 2008 :: Restore A Point Between Two Full Backups

Oct 23, 2015

I make two full backups on Oct 1 and Oct 10. I want to restore the server to a state in Oct 5. So I just do as follows:

1.Perform a transaction log backup on the server on Oct 23. I have never backup transaction log in the past.
2. Restore the server with Oct 1 full backup with NORECOVERY option.
3.Try to restore to the point at Oct 5 12:00, with the transaction log.

But the restore fails and SQL Server said the transaction log does not contain the point. The point is too early. Why? Also my .LDF file is about 13G, but the transaction log backup is only 200MB. Why?

SQL Server 2008 :: Add Carriage Return To A Full Address Field

Apr 16, 2015

I'm pulling individual address fields into my script, some of which are null.

I would like to add in a carriage return after ONLY those fields that are NOT NULL.

Current script is:

SELECT
ISNULL(SAD.HOUSENUMBER,'') + ISNULL(SAD.ADDRESS1,'') + ISNULL(SAD.ADDRESS2,'') + ISNULL(SAD.ADDRESS3,'') + ISNULL(SAD.CITY,'') + ISNULL(SAD.COUNTRY,'') + ISNULL(SAD.ZIP,'') as 'FULL_ADDRESS'
FROM
SFAADDRESS SAD
