SQL Server 2012 :: Adding Value To Date Column Caused Overflow
Jun 30, 2015
The script is failing at this point "DATEADD(mm, RowNum, salesdate) subscriptionrowdate" dont know exactly where i am going wrong.
This is my code
SELECT *, CAST(viasatsubscriptionid as char(8)) +'_'+LTRIM(STR(RowNum))subscriptionrowlog, DATEADD(mm, RowNum, salesdate) subscriptionrowdate
FROM (
SELECT viasatsubscriptionid, firstproductregistrationdate, salesdate, baseenddate,
ROW_NUMBER() over(Partition by viasatsubscriptionid order by salesdate)-1 RowNum
FROM stage_viasatsubscription
)a
At my job is a dts package that is failing in SQL 2005. I am not a SQLexpert. I am just trying to fix. I put the query in Query Analyzerand get this error:(4322 row(s) affected)Server: Msg 535, Level 16, State 1, Line 1Difference of two datetime columns caused overflow at runtime.I am just trying to understand what this means, what I should belooking for and what could be wrong. Here is the query:SELECT i.SerialNumber, '' AS mac_number, DATEDIFF([second], 'Jan 1,1970', s.DateOrdered) AS Support_StartDt, DATEDIFF([second], 'Jan 1,1970',s.Warranty_Enddate) AS Support_EndDt,DATEDIFF([second], 'Jan 1, 1970', c.Registration_Date) ASRegistration_Date, c.FirstName AS enduser_fname,c.LastName AS enduser_lname, c.CompanyName ASenduser_companyname, c.ContactEmail AS enduser_email, c.Address ASenduser_address1,c.Address2 AS enduser_address2, c.City ASenduser_city, c.State AS enduser_state, c.Zip AS enduser_zip,c.WorkPhone AS enduser_phone,c.Fax AS enduser_fax, d.DealerName ASdealer_companyname, d.ContactFirstName AS dealer_fname,d.ContactLastName AS dealer_name,d.Address1 AS dealer_address, d.City ASdealer_city, d.State AS dealer_state, d.Zip AS dealer_zip,d.ContactPhone AS dealer_phone,d.ContactFax AS dealer_fax,ISNULL(SUBSTRING(p.ProductName, 11, LEN(p.ProductName) - 10), 'unknownIWP product') AS product_type, '' AS extra1,'' AS extra2, '' AS extra3, '' AS extra4, '' ASextra5, '' AS extra6, '' AS extra7FROM tblInventory i full outer JOINtblDealers d ON i.DealerID = d.DealerID fullOUTER JOINtblSupport s ON i.InventoryID = s.InventoryIDfull outer JOINtblCustomers c ON s.InventoryID = c.InventoryIDLEFT OUTER JOINtblProducts p ON LEFT(i.SerialNumber,PATINDEX('%-%', i.SerialNumber)) = p.SerialPrefixWHERE i.SerialNumber <> ''Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
What is the syntax for adding a column where you are adding a year to a date in a date format? For example adding a column displaying a year after the participation date in date format?
When I call ExecuteResultSet(SqlServerCe.ResultSetOptions.Scrollable) I am getting the following error when the data type is Numeric(18, 4): Expression evaluation caused an overflow. [ Name of function (if known) = ]
The numbers involved are not that big and work fine when ExecuteReader() or ExecuteResultSet(SqlServerCe.ResultSetOptions.None) are called on the same SQL.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
Cheers, Dave

how i can add date using ssis or data tools 2012..My flat files had no date..den my instructor gave us a database where it has recordstartdate, recordenddate and currentdate.how i suppose to add date?
I have a situation that I need to add a field to a table over linked server. The specifications of this is dynamic and it is being done in TQL / Stored procedures and this can not change. My code is generating the statement just fine and if I copy paste it to a new SSMS window and execute it WORKS.. The problem is I need to dynamically generate the statement (I am doing that just fine, I THINK). THEN I need to execute the statement IN THE SPROC, this part is not working.
Here is the code:
SET @AlterSQL = @DestinationServerName + '.[' + @DestinationDBName +'].' + @DestinationSchemaName + '.sp_executesql N'' ALTER TABLE ' + @DestinationTableName + ' ADD ' + @TempColumn + ' int' + CHAR(39)
The above Creates this when I expose it via a PRINT statement:
addb15.[FSParallel].dbo.sp_executesql N' ALTER TABLE Node ADD ImportIdentity int'
After I create the statement I use:
EXEC @AlterSQL
And this returns the following error:
Msg 2812, Level 16, State 62, Procedure ETLDynamicImport, Line 244 Could not find stored procedure 'FSParallel.dbo.sp_executesql N' ALTER TABLE Node ADD ImportIdentity int''.
I want to compare two columns in the same table called start date and end date for one clientId.if clientId is having continuous refenceid and sartdate and enddate of reference that I don't need any caseopendate but if clientID has new reference id and it's start date is not continuous to its previous reference id then I need to set that start date as caseopendate.
I have two columns in a table:StartDate DateTime and StartTime DateTime. The StartDate column holds a value such as 07/16/2004The StartTime column holds a value such as 3:00:00 PMI want to be able to add them in a stored procedure. When I use StartDate + StartTime I get a date two days earlier than expected. For example, instead of 7/16/2004 3:00:00 PM StartDate + StartTime returns7/14/2004 3:00:00 PM.Can anyone point out wht I'm doing wrong with this one? Thanks,lq
I am currently working for the Sybase to Sql Server migration project and have been able to test migrate few tables using SSIS. After migration, i was doing some data comparision and could see the date formats are different between Sybase and Sql server. However, there are no issues with data like day in sybase becoming month in Sql server except the formats are different.
Do I need to act on this date formats? Not sure if this would cause any issues in front end application that will consume sql server date data.
We have a database and have 6-7 growing tables. All the tables have Primary and foreign key relation. I want to do partition based on the date column.
I need 3 partitions
First partition has to hold present data second partition need to hold the previous year data (SAS storage) Third partition need to hold all the old data and need to be in the archive database
I understand that first we need to disable the constraints (Indexes PK & FK) Then create partition function and partition schema Then Create the Constraints again
Aim – To add 60days to [Date_Approved_By_Risk__c] column
Query so far is
select [Date_Approved_By_Risk__c] --left([Date_Approved_By_Risk__c],10)+60 as correct_date from #build where [Date_Approved_By_Risk__c] is not null
[Date_Approved_By_Risk__c] is in the following format “2010-04-30T23:00:00.000Z”
When i add the following “left([Date_Approved_By_Risk__c],10)+60 as correct_date” into the query i get the following error Msg 245, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Conversion failed when converting the varchar value '2010-07-13' to data type int.
I have the following code in a SP. The 2 if statements for the @@ Error I added only for testing as I suddenly started get the following error at the 1st @@Error statement
Msg 232, Level 16, State 2, Line Arithmetic overflow error for type varchar, value = 10000.00000.
I cannot have this SP running minutes it must be done in seconds.
I have tried the folloiwng changes but then it takes to long.
OK, so I have this query where I'm trying to subtract values like this, when I do this I am getting (Arithmetic overflow error converting varchar to data type numeric.) I have tried many different things, and now of these work, it'll either return 0 because it loses the .XXXXX.

After SQL server service restart, a column which is set to auto increment jumped 1000. To fix the issue, I had to add T272 trace flag to SQL startup parameters. However, I did not see the column being reseeded after the service restart, it is still showing the 1000 jump. Am I doing something wrong?
Below the log showing the flag being added to the error log:
I was looking for a way to use a wild card on a date column, but could only convert the file first then use the wildcard Is there another way of conducting the wild card search on a date column without conducting a conversion on the specified column? Sybase has the ability to use a wildcard on the datetime column so I would assume SQL SERVER does too.... Right? I can see that there are some workaround to get the information I need . I have conducted multiple searches and I still cannot find a suitable answer. Anyway, below is some links where I received some of the information:
I am planning to add some new columns to an existing sql server 2012 table. I know that I need to use the alter statement to accomplish this goal. However my questions is the location of where I want to add the new columns to the table. It would make more sense to add the new columns to the middle of the table since these columns have a similar meaning as other columns in the middle of the table.
However is it better to add these new columns at the end of the table? I am asking this question since I am thinking I might need some sql to move the values of existing columns and values around?
Thus is it better to add new columns to a table in the middle of the table, at the end of the table, or at the end of the table? If so, why one location is better than another location?
I am trying to insert a single row in Temp table #InventoryItems . The temp table is mentioned in a curosor childcur_inventory. While looping through the cursor I have mentioned nested if else condition . In the Else condition where I have mentioned PRINT "Hello World" I want to insert a single row in the temp #InventoryItems. I trying to use Select Top 1 but the cursor is looping indefinitely trying to insert multiple record
I want to insert only one record with null values.
DECLARE childcur_inventory CURSOR FOR SELECT Structure_Number, State, Neighbor_State, Border_Bridge_Structure_Number FROM #InventoryItems OPEN childcur_inventory FETCH childcur_inventory INTO @Structure_Number, @State, @Neighbour_State, @Border_Bridge_Structure_Number
I need to add a join in my select query depending upon a variable @LoggedUser. the Join is to be there if @loggedUser is 1 else i do not need it. Currently I am using two different queries one with join and one without it under If (@LoggedUser check).
the join is like - JOIN (SELECT CAST(CONVERT(VARCHAR(8),Analyst_Effective_date , 1) AS DATETIME) Analyst_Effective_date FROM Users us (NOLOCK) JOIN Primary_Analysts (NOLOCK) ON User_Count_Id = Analyst_Id_fk WHERE User_Count_Id in ((SELECT VALUE FROM dbo.fParseString(@Analyst, ',')) )) Ana ON dep.Departure_Code = Ana.Primary_Analyst_Departure_Code_fk )
Any way that the join can be added conditionally in the query so i do not have to write the whole code again for one join.
I have a query to run a report where the results has a column named “Due Date” which holds a date value based on the project submission date. Now, I need to add 4 columns named, “45 Days Expectant”, “30 Days Overdue”, “60 Days Overdue” and “90 Days Overdue”.I need to do a calculation based on the “Due Date” and “System (I mean default computer date) Date” that if “System Date” is 45 days+ to “Due Date” than put “Yes” in “45 Days Expectant” row.
Also, if “Due Date” is less than or equal to system date by 30 days, put “Yes” in “30 Days Overdue” and same for the 60 and 90 days.how to write this Case Statement? I have some answers how to do it in SSRS (Report Designer) but I want to get the results using T-SQl.
I'm writing a view to check record counts in a table that has numerous datasets and therefore various "Activity Dates". Is it possible as part of the SQL statement to have a CASE statement for example so that it can identify the field to use as the activity date?
The field to use is being identified using a seperate table so at the moment I have CASE WHEN FieldToUse = '2' THEN MapCol ELSE '[Activity_Date]' END, where FieldToUse = '2' identifies the date field to use and the MapCol data is the field name to be used as the activity date.
I have a data output with many rows. In order to group things with flags, I do this in excel using 2 formulas which *** a flag of 0 or 1 in 2 new columns.
This takes a long long time as I have hundreds of thousands of rows and wondered of I could do it in sql?
Its transact SQL and the formulas I use in excel are:
'SELECT E.EmployeeID FROM dbo.EmployeeGroupMapToEmployee E, dbo.Per_Budget B WHERE E.EmployeeID = B.PER_PERSONAL_ID AND B.PEB_Budget_id = 243 AND E.EmployeeGroupID IN (SELECT H.Id FROM dbo.EmployeeGroup H WHERE H.InstitutionsId = 22) GROUP BY E.EmployeeID '
If i Replace @EmpFilterAddDuty with this in a QUERY, it gives me the expected result, but if i try to execute the stored procedure.:
DECLARE@return_value int EXEC@return_value = [dbo].[EP_Conterbalances] @Start_Date_For_Totals_Date = N'20120831', @EmpFilterAddDuty = 'SELECT E.EmployeeID FROM dbo.EmployeeGroupMapToEmployee E, dbo.Per_Budget B
[Code] .....
I get this error code:
Conversion failed when converting the varchar value 'SELECT E.EmployeeID FROM dbo.EmployeeGroupMapToEmployee E, dbo.Per_Budget B WHERE E.EmployeeID = B.PER_PERSONAL_ID AND B.PEB_Budget_id = 243 AND E.EmployeeGroupID IN (SELECT H.Id FROM dbo.EmployeeGroup H WHERE H.InstitutionsId = 22) GROUP BY E.EmployeeID ' to data type int.
I really do not understand why SQL 2012 tries to convert the value to an int, and I want to know how to pass the text string.

On table TABLENAME, I have increased the size of column C to decimal(38, 14); maximum size and an excessive amount of precision. If I do a SELECT MAX(CONVERT(DECIMAL(7,2), A) / B) FROM TABLENAME SELECT MIN(CONVERT(DECIMAL(7,2), A) / B) FROM TABLENAME I get 3.0000000000000 for the MAX and 0.1000000000000 for the MIN value, yet if I update UPDATE TABLENAME SET C = CONVERT(DECIMAL(7,2), A) / B WHERE B <> 0 Msg 8115, Level 16, State 8, Line 1 Arithmetic overflow error converting numeric to data type numeric. The statement has been terminated. Obviously I have obscured the column names and table name, but I am puzzled as to why values in the range 0.1 to 3.0 should give an overflow error. I am using SQL2005 SP2
automatically replicates new databases to Availability Group partners - if you do a little prep work on your environment first. To make it work:
1) Create linked servers on all group members pointing to all other servers in the group, with names matching the hostnames they represent. 2) Ensure suitable credentials (or 'current context' impersonation) for linked servers. Also: Enable RPC and RPC OUT 3) Run the DDL code below. 4) Schedule hadr_replicate_queue on [master] to run as often as you want initial syncs to occur. Every 5-10 minutes is plenty for most purposes. 5) Connect to an availability group listener and call CREATE DATABASE :)
I use a slightly more extended version of this code at home to do things like permissions synchronization across replicas - I essentially allow applications to install direct to an availability group replica and then have all the relevant objects replicate to other nodes. I don't really like going through manually and doing things, even though there's an AddIn from SQLSkills for management studio - it still requires manual intervention.
The main use I have for this at home is that I'm using the Azure pack, and want to automatically ensure that my newly created 'SQL Server Cloud' databases are highly available, plus it means when I install a non-alwayson aware product it doesn't require any extra work afterwards to allow failover to another machine.

When adding a node to a SQL Server 2012 Standard edition cluster, how I do I identify the location for SQL server shared components and the rest of the SQL Server installation binaries?
When adding a node to a SQL Server 2012 Standard edition cluster all the binaries went to the C: drive default location. We put those files on a different drive when installing the first node. What needs to be done so both nodes have the binaries on the same drives and folders?
