I need to copy all objects (views, procedures, tables, functions, etc -- no data) that are under a specific Schema in a database, but the Generate Script option in SSMS doesn't give me the option to do this. How I can generate a script that's Schema specific?
View 2 RepliesI am struggling to come up with a set-based solution for this problem (i.e. that doesn't involve loops/cursors) ..A table contains items (identified by an ItemCode) and the set they belong to (identified by a SetId). Here is some sample data:

You can see that there are some sets that have the same members:
- 1 and 10
- 2 and 11
- 7, 8 & 9
What I want to do is identify the sets that have the same members, by giving them the same ID in another column called UniqueSetId.
I've made a comparison between a database project (sqlproj) and a database.
I can't exclude some items because they are dependent items on them. So they are implicitly included in the update script.
Unfortunately when I have unchecked all the items, some of them are still implicitly included.
It seems that there are circular dependency or some thing like that.
I know how to generate scripts that would contain insert queries of all records in all tables. But how can I limit this to top 10 records only from each table?I can select "Data Only" when generating the script, but it generates insert queries for all data. How can get the script to have only top 10 record insert statements? These top 10 should be ordered by the primary key.

We need to create a pdf file from SQL server preferably from a stored procedure. Application will call the stored procedure and it should generate pdf. From my research it appears it can be done using various external tools with licensing/costs. But is it possible to do this within sql server database without additional costs? I read that this can be done by SSRS in SQL server but not sure if it is a good solution and if it is additional licensing..

I want to join 2 tables, table a and table b where b is a lookup table by left outer join. my question is how can i generate a flag that show whether match or not match the join condition ?

I have gotten as far as generating the script dynamically then using a while exist clause to execute the delete statements.

I have created one table and one stored procedure for to insert/delete/update the data in that table.
So,I was trying to move the scripts from one database to another by Generating Scripts options in SQL Server.
Generating Scripts:
Object Explorer --> Databases --> Database --> Tasks --> Generate Scripts
The generated script output is in a order of stored procedure first and then table.
REQUIREMENT: My stored procedure is dependent on table. So, I need the table script first and then stored procedure.
Note: I can generate two separate scripts for table and stored procedure, But in a just curiosity to know, Is there any way, can we re order the Generate Scripts output in SQL Server.

I got a sales cost and cost amount table for my budget. the sales cost table is getting updated with FOBB items which makes the total incorrect . the FOBB values needs to be moved from the sales cost column to the cost amount column. how can i do it with an SQL script.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am getting a number of deadlocks when inserting and deleting items from the same table.
The delete statement has a U lock and awaiting an IX lock on an index that covers the column in the where clause.
The insert statement has a IX lock and awaiting a U lock on the same index.
The delete statement is deleting about 5000 rows, where as the insert statement is inserting a single row.
Both these statements are found in stored procedures being called from LINQ to SQL.
I am wondering if there is a way I can prevent the delete statement taking the U lock out?My thinking being if the delete didn't take out the U lock then it would not deadlock with the insert. Are there any hints I could use to avoid the particular lock above?
I have seen various examples of multiple updates causing a deadlock, which can be fixed by adding multiple indexes. However, as I am inserting and deleting rows I imagine that all the indexes will need to be updated by both operations.
I have inherited the architecture and don't have the time to redesign everything at present. My backup plan is to deprioritize the delete and build in a retry mechanism.
However, it would be really good if I could find a more elegant way to handle deleting and inserting rows at the same time.

I have a multiselect checkbox list in my UI. I pass the list items to my stored proc as comma separated parameter and then I have a function which converts this parameter to a table with separate rows.

I'm having an issue creating a report that can group & sum similar items together (I know in some ways, the requirement doesn't make sense, but it's what the client wants).
I have a table of items (i.e. products). In some cases, items can be components of another item (called "Kits"). In this scenario, we consider the kit itself, the "parent item" and the components within the kit are called "child items". In our Items table, we have a field called "Parent_Item_Id". Records for Child Items contain the Item Id of the parent. So a sample of my database would be the following:

Following an upgrade to SQL Server 2012, our shop's Schema Compare tool (Redgate SQL Compare) is no longer supporting our environment.We are starting to evaluate various 3rd party products to find a possible replacement, and would be interested in what products are favored by other IT shops who do a lot of database work.
Our shop is split about 75% SQL Server, 20% Oracle, and 5% I'll call other. Ideally a product would support SQL Server and Oracle, but our focus is on SQL server right now. On that platform we have ~50 servers spread across DevUATProd environments.In basic terms, we need a tool that can identify schema differences between DBs and generate synchronization scripts to support deploys between environments. Real-time synchronization is not a requirement (nor desirable), as deploys are a gated DBA function in our shop.
I regularly (every month or so) get the error "The target principle name is incorrect. Cannot generate SSPI context" when trying to remotely connect to my SQL 2012 instance. The SQL service is running using a managed service account. I understand this error can occur when the service account cannot authenticate with AD properly. Looking at the properties of the managed service account, the password for the account was automatically changed this morning - just when the error started.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently attempted to change the password of the sa login. There were no issues while updating the password neither did I get an error when I logged in as sa. Everything appeared to connect and I was able to query a database. However, an error was logged (error 18456 severity 14 state 8) as though I did not log in successfully. Even though I can connect successfully, I don't like having these misleading errors in the SQL Server Log.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI refresh QA environments with copies of our production database quite often. Many of the users also have read-only logins to production, but not all. I've noticed that in QA the users in the restored database are matched up with QA server logins that no longer have "DBO" as their default schema. We almost always use DBO, nothing else.
On the most recent restore, I didn't drop the target DB first, just restored with "replace." Does it matter whether I drop or replace in this instance?
The one user reporting issues could not open the database in management studio to view objects/tables etc. I noticed their default schema was their domain login, so fixed that and they now no longer have the issue.
