I can create a string into a local "@" variable. It can include a date/time, and text for my timing testing.
I need to be able to send that string to the results window where table output goes, rather than to the message window where a PRINT statement goes.
How do I do that?
I am looking for a way to create a stored procedure that will show inventory availability. I would like to show the Inventory Name, The Date, and if the inventory is "checked out" using the ID name of the person who has the item.
For example it would look like this:

It seems like I want to do a pivot table but there really is no aggregate so I am not sure what to use.
I have created a view thats pulling data from two different tables to combine them into one report.
table 1 lists the client code and table 2 lists the client partner and they're linked by a variable.
When running the report the result shows the client codes with their respective partner however any client codes that didn't have a partner are not displaying in the report and I need all client codes to be displayed even if there's no partner.
Is there a way I can make this display all results and if the client partner doesn't exist for it to still display as 'Null' for the partner but still display the client code?

I have a view I've created which displays client sortname, partner and date added which displays 7 results.
When I add another table to this view to display the Industry it then only gives me 4 results as the other 3 results have no Industry instead of giving me the 7 results and showing the Industry column as empty for the other 3.
Is there a way I can make it show all 7 results and havethe column where the industry is empty display the other results instead of not displaying any results at all for them?

I have written this sample query to search a full-text indexed table and return the results. If the word occurs more than once I want it to return as a new record and the results show a short summary of the location. I was using 'like', but the full table scans were really slowing it down. Can performance be improved for the following (The results returned by my query are accurate)

I have a view over 5 tables that has started giving unreliable results. There are three records that should be different, but in a production Access database, the view is giving three identical records where there should be three unique records. I have tested the view within SQL Server Management Studio and it gives the correct records there. But, I have attached this same view into the same Access database with two separate names. One instance of the view within Access database gives the correct records, and the other gives the incorrect (duplicated) records. I have attached screen shots that show these two separately named incarnations of the same SQL View, with the duplicated data, or the unique data highlighted.
I have also included the SQL query specs for this view.
what I can do to this view in order for it to always give us the unique records that we need, rather than sometimes the correct records, and sometimes the incorrect records.

So I'm trying out full-text indexing for the first time and, in particular, FileTables in SQL Server 2012. I've followed a Microsoft walkthrough and everything seems to be ok. However, when I query the table using the CONTAINS keyword, I get no results (a regular query to make sure there are records in the table returns the expected number of results).
I'm now trying to troubleshoot, and have been using the FULLTEXTCATALOGPROPERTY function, but I don't understand the results.
If I run SELECT FULLTEXTCATALOGPROPERTY(N'CatlogName',N'ItemCount'), I get a result of 51. There are 96 documents in the NTFS folder where the documents are stored, and the table has 96 records, so I don't know where 51 is coming from. 55 of the documents are .DOC files, the rest are .PDF, and some (or maybe all) of the PDFs are scanned images of documents, which I don't expect to be indexed, so maybe that explains it. And in another thread in these forums, a poster suggests that the result for this function should be either 0 or 1, with 0 meaning that no documents are pending indexing, but maybe I've misunderstood that.
If I run SELECT FULLTEXTCATALOGPROPERTY(N'CatalogName',N'UniqueKeyCount'), I get a result of 2. I have got two full-text indexes in this catalog (one on the FileTable, one on a regular table with FT enabled). Is this result therefore expected? Again, reading online seems to suggest that a result of 0 is desirable, but I don't understand why, and if it is I don't understand why my result is 2!
I've now also run SELECT* FROM sys.dm_fts_index_keywords(DB_ID('DatabaseName'), Object_ID('dbo.FileTableName)), which I believe is supposed to list all of the indexed words from the table specified. I get one row returned, as follows:

So basically, it's not indexed any words at all. And why is the document count only 40 when there are 96 documents in the folder and table?

When I run my CLR/C# stored procedure inside Visual/BI Dev Studio, the results in a datatable are sent over pipe and displayed in output window without the grid format. I looked up inOptions and settings but couldn't find a way to change the format of output window to grid. I would like to be able to do that so I can copy/paste the results in excel.
Inside my gridview, the user can key in new record, delete record and update record. but dont know why my insert function cant work out and i dunno why this is happen? Can somebody help me out with this?Thanks

Hi all,I asked a similar question a few weeks ago but I didn't explain myself to well so I was hoping for some more input.I have created a webpage in Visual web developer that contains a gridview that points to an SQL table.All works well as far as searching the table and sorting. The SQL table itself is Droped ( deleted ) and then re-created every 1 minute from a query to a linked DB2 database so that we have a "live" table of our DB2 system but in SQL.....However,There is now a requirement to be able to ADD data to this SQL table. eg: a comments field.. from the website.My procedure for re-creating the SQL DB is now useless as any data added through the website would be lost when the table gets re-created.What is the best way for me to achieve a permanent table in SQL that gets updated from the Linked server DB2 but that I can also add comments from the front end (Website Gridview)..I'm assuming some sort of update query and a join to a seperate, permanent table that contains the comments?.Please help. I have gridview bound with SqlDataSource control. One of the grid columns is a dropdown list which is populated programatically, (the gridview has template column with edittemplate field with dropdown list), dropdown Value contains of course collection of IDs.Please tell me how to declare UpdateCommand which will update the row with the dropdown list. The problem is with parameter regarding the column with dropdown list. When i declare this parameter and bind it to SelectedValue property of the dropdownlist from edittemplate tag - it doesnt work, because datasource control cannot see this dropdown list. So, how am i supposed to declare the ID of the row being updated in <updateParameters>? Thanks in advance!
View 4 Replies View RelatedHi there. I looked through many other posts describing scope_identity but I am trying to achieve the same thing from the code behind. i.e. I need to some how call a method to execute the insert command and then return the ID so I can update other tables with this value.
I was going down the road of something like:
addnew as sqldatasource = new sqldatasource
addnew.insertcommand = "Insert into....; def @NewID as scope_identity"
addnew.insert()
The problem is I don't know how to add a output parameter using VB or how to retrieve it.
Any help would be much appreciated, this is doing my head in....

Perhaps I was seeing things earlier, and it's really a minor thing, but when I display query results in Management Studio, isn't there a setting that turns the background of cells containing NULL to a pale yellow color? I could've sworn it used to do this, and I've searched high and low for a preference setting, but no joy.
Does this setting exist?

I have consistent column names that load into a grid view. I now need to change the names in the grid view programatically. I was originally trying to get cute with SQL to do this, but I've been told my below solution will not work and I'm better off to do this in the presentation layer. If this is true, remember I'm still wet behind the ears here...how do I do this in vs2005?

I have written up a grid consisting of properties and units.The way it works is we have properties, and within properties there are units. They are two seperate tables.Some properties do not have any units so in the unit reference (UN_UREF) column for those records which do not have units and are NULL I would like to insert the text 'NO UNIT'.Please see below for my SQL for the grid which works fine.

I have the membership stuff up and running. I've added a field to the membership table called custnmbr. Once a user logs in, I want store his custnbmr in the session and use that to lookup data in another db.
ie: Joe logs in and his custnumbr is 001, he goes to the login success page and sees his list of service calls which is:

I have created a trigger to call a program that is written by our program. The program is basically read the record in the table and write to a text file, then delete the record from the table.
The trigger is a after insert trigger. After we added the trigger, we insert a record to the table. The result is that the record still and did not get deleted. Also, the text file didn't get created either. It seems that it take a long time for the record to be written to the table.
But if we just run the program (a exe file), it can write a text file in the folder and delete the record. the trigger is basically:

I want to write a query to generate a report. I have a date column which will be holding all the business dates. No dates of Saturday and Sunday are allowed. What I am looking for is, I want to get the result of every 5th business day of each month. A month could start with any day. I just want only the 5th business day.

I have written a query that I need to save results of. Is there some statement that I can place at the top of my query (like we can do in Oracle through spool command) to specify the directoryfilename to save query results to? Eventually I need to schedule this to run daily via a DTS package.
Please let me know if you've come across this before?

easy question:
If I use "results to text" option when executing a query in Ms SQL Server Management Studio null value is inserted as 'NULL' string in the result. Is it possible to have blank ('') string instead of 'NULL' in the result in 2005 version.
It must be possible, but I could not find it in tools/options
