SQL Server 2012 :: Loop Through Each Instance On A Server
Apr 15, 2015
I'm writing a query to loop through each instance on a server so I can get each instances relevant information. I can't seem to get each instances sql service and sql agent service, either one or the other.
DECLARE @InstanceNames varchar(50), @SQL varchar(2000)
DECLARE @GetInstances TABLE (Value varchar(100), InstanceNames varchar(50), Data varchar(100), ID int IDENTITY(1,1))
DECLARE @Serverinfo TABLE (ServerName varchar(50), InstanceName varchar(50), ProductVersion varchar(20), ProductLevel char(3)
I have a 3 node cluster on which I have installed SSAS as it's own insntance. I have created this as a named instance and can connect to it by serverinstance if I'm on the server itself. However from my desktop I get the error saying instance was not found on server name.
I have defined an alternate port and setup firewall rules and can connect via server:port but not serverinstance. Prior to making this change SSAS was running on default port of 2383 and I could connect just by servername.
I have read many articles for previous versions saying that clustered SSAS will always use 2383 and that you must connect just using servername. However and this is were it gets strange. I have a 2 node UAT cluster with SSAS setup exactly the same way I've described above and I can connect from my desktop as serverinstance.
Should I be able to connect as serverinstances for a named clustered instance in 2012 ?
I have a table called Table1 where I have five fields like Tableid, Processigndate, Amount, remainingCollectonCount and Frequency. All total I have more than 5Lacs records.
Now I need to fill up another table Called FutuecashFlow taking the records from Table1. There will be also five Columns like FutureCashflowid, Table1id, Processigndate, Amount.
Now the condition is that if the remainingCollectonCount =6 and the frequency is 12 then there will be the 6 entries in the futurecasflow table where the prcessign datae wille be addeed by 1 month.
For example Table1 Tableid, Processigndate Amount remainingCollectonCount Frequency 1 2014-02-15 48 8 12
the future cash flow table the prcessing date column will be shown in the following way
I am using P_PART_CLS_ATTR as input where I can insert the data as attr_name and attr_value. I want to access each row of inserted values like row by row. I need take attribute name and value process them and return for inserting.. How to access the values in row by row?
If F.parent_id(101)=T.team_id(101) and T.team_id(101)=T.parent_folder_id (101) then output should come as 'Mobile/c' (this is for f.parent_id=101)
If F.Parent_id=T.team_id and T.team_id!=T.parent_folder_id then parent_folder_id have to start search on team_id column where it got match and pick the Team_name from that corresponding id
Ex: F.parent_id=202 is matching with T.Team_id (202) but this T.team_id(202) is not matching with T.parent_folderid(200) , so this T.parent_folderid (200) have to search on T.id (200) ,if now T.id(200) is matching with T.Parent_folder_id(200) then it have to give the names from the starting hirache
Considering trying to move 2008 acitve/passive cluster with log ship to day old read only 2008 server to 2012 active/passive to 2012 AG Read only server. Only problem is that read only instance may have to be a 2nd instance on a server. The new box is a beast 64 core 256 gig of RAM hp so this is no dog. So I have these choices
migrate 2008 active/passive cluster to 2012 active passive (this will be it's own ordeal)take new monster box and build two instances, one that will run the AG read only database, the other will house reporitng services and analysis services and a few dw databases. We are not heavy into deep dive analysis services yet kind of in it's infancy. Not sure if this other instance will be sql 2008R2 , may be able to do 2012. MY also have a few small sharepoint databases but they barely use it.
We have SQL Server 2012 running on Windows 2008 Server. We need to copy five databases from our 'sandbox' to our test server and then to our production server. The database backup file sizes are 3 MB, 20 MB, 344 MB, 645 MB and 17 GB. We are planning on using the backup and restore method since we already have full backups and the scripts to recreate the logins/users/permissions. We believe this method provides more flexibility and control over the process. However, we have a few jobs, maintenance plans and ssis packages.
To get the jobs to the new server instance, the plan is to script out the jobs on the 'sandbox' and execute the scripts on the test server instance. Is this the best or only way to handle the jobs? How to get these maintenance plans to the new server instance? (There is no 'script out' maintenance plan option.) We may have to just recreate them on the new server instance. Is this the best or only way to handle the maintenance plans?
We have a few ssis packages. How to handle getting the ssis packages over to the new server instance (using the backup restore method)? These packages use the Project Deployment Model. Therefore, should we restore the SSISDB or open up the package file using VSS on the new server instance and change the connection information to point to the new server instance.
Just wondering if there is any reason or advantage to use the Detach and Attach method or Copy Database Wizard method? I have read where the Copy Database Wizard method handles the database's dependent objects like logins, jobs, maintenance plans, user-defined error messages and shared objects from the master database. Are there any other move/copy database methods to consider? Just trying to make sure we have thought out everything and are using the best method to copy our databases over to another server instance.
First time I've tried doing this - I have SQL Server 2012 installed on my local machine with an instance running (which was set up under an administrator account, not mine, which has no admin rights), and I'm trying to create a linked table from Access (also on the local machine) to a table on the server.
I tried creating a DSN using Windows Authentication, using the server name which is the same as my computer name, and got the error "Error 18452, Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication".
I then created a SQL authentication user ID and password, and tried the same thing using that instead, and got "Login failed for user <myusername>"
Is there some particular setting on the local instance I need to change to allow this kind of connection, or do I need to use something other than the server name to connect, such as an IP address? Remember that I have no admin access on this machine so any solution would have to avoid requiring that.
I am currently having publisher(database A), subscriber (database B) and distributor on the same instance for a test environment that is using a uni directional transactional replication. Now I need to setup another unidirectional transactional replication in the same test instance but for a different database. Publisher database is D and subcsirber database is E.
I am new to SQL Server 2012 clustering.I added a new instance to one of the two nodes.when I try to move it to the other node it fails.Do I need to install it on both?If so, what options do you install on the second node?
Now with the above result, On every record I have to fire a query Select SUM(sale), SUM(scrap), SUM(Production) from tableB where ProdID= ["ProdID from above query"].How to write this query in a Stored Procedure so that I can get the required SUM columns for all the ProdID's from first query?
In QA we have a two-node cluster with four instances of sql. In trying to add a fifth, I was given an IP address already in use so the install hung.
I removed it from the cluster but it is still there in the registry etc on the node I was working on.
I read about using the maintenance tab of the sql server install to "remove a node" but the terminology is confusing. To me a node is a physical server and an instance is an instance of sql server -- not the same at all but they are often referred to as the same thing.
I definitely don't want to remove one of the servers from the cluster.
The box I am trying to connect to is running two instances of SQL Server. There is a SQL Server 2005 instance which is the default. There is a SQL Server 2000 instance which is named 'SQLSERVER'. I can connect to the SQL Server 2000 instance no problem:<add key="ConnectionString" value="server=MYPCSQLSERVER;database=mydatabase;user id=****;password=****" /> However, I am having trouble connecting to the Default SQL Server 2005 instance. I have tried: <add key="ConnectionString" value="server=MYPC;database=mydatabase;user id=****;password=****" /> but it doesn't work. I have tried explicitly setting SQL Server 2005 to use port 1434 (as SQL Server 2000 is running on port 1433), and then used: <add key="ConnectionString" value="server=MYPC,1434;database=mydatabase;user id=****;password=****" /> but this doesn't work either.
Am I mssing something here? Any help much appreciated Thanks...
I am trying to setup a client alias to connect to a named instance on another server.

I have set up the alias on the server and as expected it works. On the client side I have used the SQL Server Client Network Utility to configure the client side alias but no luck
I am using TCP/IP with a specific port ..
By the way the SQL is SQL Server 2012 Ent and the O/S is Windows 2012 R2 minshell
I've two instances(Default, Named[dynamicsFINANCE]) running on SQL server 2014. However, when I try to connect to named instance say (dynamicsFINANCE) using SQL authentication from local SSMS, I get below error message:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1)
I assigned a static port number to the named instance [dynamicsFINANCE] 1450. I also setup the firewall rule to allow access to Port 1450.
I want to move one database from the source SQL Server 2000 instance to a new SQL 2000 instance in another machine. I have five user databases in this source SQL instance. How should be my approach to move this single database out of this ? My understanding is restoring this database in the new instance, copying all logins to the new instance and then copying the jobs, DTS packages, alerts, operators only specific to this database will do it. Please let me know if this is exactly what I should do ..

i created a DTS package and i used to run it. im very confused how the communication happens between the two machines and which process run where and which initiates which and which machine allocates waht resources. im really interested to know all these things. if any one know plz help me out.
Hi,Is it possible to install on a Windows server 2003,SQL SERVER 2000 in the folowing configuration :SQL server 7.0 as a default InstanceandSQL server 2000 as a named instance. Thanks for your answer.
Got windows Vista Business edition, installed Visual Web Developer Express, SQL Server 2005 Express SP2, SQL Server Management Studio SP1 in that order. I was developing in VWD express without problems using WinXP but now on Vista Business, the local connection to SQL server appears to be a problem. I know there's nothing wrong with my web.config or anything like that as it was working perfectly prior to running under Vista. If i specify the database on the live website, it works fine. If I specify the test database in app_data folder, I get the following exception:-

I am taking a guess it's somerthing to do with access issues, but can't find anything out on searching the forums etc.. I am setup as an administrator, running VWD as an administrator and for the record, SQL Server Management Studio express works fine. Another small issue, when I run the application from VWD, I always have to minimise the application and restore it as the graphics get corrupt. Please help!! I cannot debug when running of the live website.
As a starter i tried to modify and translate the Personal Website Starters kit from the VS2005Team SDK.
When i'm working on the machine were it's installed , under debugging, all works great.
But when i try to develop from my laptop, via RDP on the develop machine, i've got this message and can not debug (connect to the SQLxpres Server)
Does anybody now a solution ?? Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed.

I am new in .NET development and currently trying to learn VWB through Microsoft online tutorials.
Here is the problem that prevents me from getting further:
in VWB, when you right click App_Data and chose "Add New Item" and then select SQL database, the following error message is displayed:
"Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed."
If I cancel out of it, it does generate mdf file under App_Data folder in Solution Explorer, but when I try to open it, it says:
"The item does not exist in the Web directory. t may have been moved, renamed or deleted." and that is where the whole sharade deadends.
I can connect via mycomputersqlexpress under Data Connections in Database Explorer (it then adds "master.dbo" to the path) and then create custom tables, but that is not the same, isn't it? I mean, this will not integrate my database tables through default configuration that I am trying to follow?
when I try to connect to an mdf as a power user, --------------------------- Microsoft Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition --------------------------- Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed. --------------------------- OK ---------------------------
I was able to do do this before until Saturady when I had to re-install sql server, and express etc due to some system problem on my xp Pro PC. What have I misconfigured?
I do see the service SQL Serer(SQLEXPRESS) started under Network Service and SQL Serfver(MSSQLSERVER) started under local system.
My power user ID does have modify access to the sql 90 database folders. and to the mdf.
No wonder Microsoft is giving it away for free. It€™s not worth anything. I am very disappointed in this version of SQL server. I decided to start learning VB so I downloaded and installed VB 2005 express edition and SQL 2005 express. I tried to build a personal website using the starter kit. I kept getting the following error message, for which I have seen numerous postings on this forum. €œFailed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed.€? I went out and bought the Standard version of VS 2005 thinking there may be a feature that the free express version is lacking. I uninstalled the express version, cleaned the registry, deleted all the folders it created and installed the Standard edition. Then I tried to create a personal web using the starter kit and it does the same thing again. I can not create a database file, connect to a database file. I can not create or attach a database on the SQL 2005 express from VS 2005. The SQL server Express seems to be working OK since I can attach to it using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express. There is something about the way VS tries to connect to the database server that is not working. VB does recognize the local computer as a SQL server but can not connect to it. SQL server is set to accept Shared memory, TCP/IP and named pipes for local clients. What is causing this? This is some information on the system I am using:
MS XP (SP2)
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Version 8.0.50727.42 (RTM.050727-4200) Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0.50727 Installed Edition: Standard
Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express 9.00.1399.00 Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2000.085.1117.00 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158) Microsoft MSXML 2.6 3.0 4.0 5.0 6.0 Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180 Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.50727.42 Operating System 5.1.2600
I am now to programming but nor computer illiterate. I have been working with MS SQL servers since version 6.5 and have MCSE, Network+, A+ and Security plus certifications. Installing and using VS should not be this problematic. What is wrong with Microsoft?
I have an interesting situation here. I have a SQL Server 2000 database which is attached to SQL Server 2005. The database (SQL 2000) however only has service pack 3 applied. I need to apply SP4 before I can move forward with SQL 2000->2005 upgrade. The question: can I somehow apply this support package with my current configuration or should I install full SQL 2000 front-end anew (which I don't have at the moment)? Whenever I try to run SQL 2000 SP4 it complains "SQL Server 2000 is not installed on this machine."
The server I try to install the update is Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition x64. SQL Server 2000 database itself is x86 (obviously).
I'm setting up a simple SSRS implementation for a non-profit organization, using two servers hosted at a data center. The first server has SQL Server Standard Edition and Reporting Services installed. I've designed and deployed a number of useful reports on this server.
I was hoping to isolate this first server by installing IIS and SSRS on the second server, have users browse from the Internet to that second server (over SSL, of course), and have all reports served up from databases (and, presumably, the report server database) on the first server.
During the installation of SSRS on the second server, however, I'm being prompted to specify the service account. According to the help text:
"Reporting Services. Service accounts are used to configure a report server database connection. Choose a domain user account if you want to connect to a report server database on a remote SQL Server instance. If you are using a local report server database, you can use a domain user account or Local System to run the service."
I believe I want to configure SSRS to connect to a report server database on a remote SQL Server instance; therefore, it appears that I need to enter a domain user account. The only problem is, neither server belongs to a domain; they are members of a simple two-server workgroup.
Does SSRS, configured to connect to a report server database on a remote SQL Server instance, require a domain? Does what I'm hoping to accomplish require a domain? Creating a two-server domain seems like overkill for this implementation, doesn't it?
I appreciate any comments and suggestions. Thanks!
