SQL Server 2012 :: Query From A List In Excel File
Feb 11, 2014
I have database tables for
Stores
StoreId, Name
Products
ProductId, Name
Transactions
TransactionId, StoreId, ProductId
I was just given an excel file with a list of 300 Stores.
I need to find out if these stores are selling our products and if they are , how many products they are selling.
One way of doing this , that I can think of right now is individually querying the Transactions table for each of the store in the excel sheet and then copy the results output back to the excel sheet.
Is there a way I can write a query against all the Store names from the excel file ? I need to get this done in the next few hours.
I have a group of about 5 servers (which will likely grow toabout 25 in the near future) with their names listed in a table in a database on one of the servers. I want to query all servers in that table using the following query to pull the storage drive, database name, created date, age and size of the databases for each server listed in the table:
SELECT left(mf.Physical_Name,2) AS Storage_Drive, DB_NAME(mf.database_id) AS DatabaseName, db.create_Date, DateDiff(day, db.create_date, getDate()) Age, sum((mf.size*8))/1024 SizeMB
[Code] ...
How would I best accomplish this if I want to implement it using a TSQL procedure?
I have a 3rd party dashboard application that I can only use SQL authenticated logins to connect to the database.
I'm trying to create a query within the application that will directly access an excel file through a linked server.
As a test, I login to SSMS as the sql auth user to run the linked server query below but the following error is returned:
select * from Corporate...[Sheet1$]OLE DB provider "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" for linked server "Corporate" returned message "Cannot start your application. The workgroup information file is missing or opened exclusively by another user.". Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 The OLE DB provider "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" for linked server "Corporate" reported an error. Authentication failed. Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" for linked server "Corporate".
When I login as a Windows auth user, I can successfully run the above query.
I noticed within the linked server's security definition that I cannot specify a windows auth user as the mapped Remote User or as the Remote login
I've tried creating a Credential object with the identity of the windows user and assign that object to the sql auth user but to no avail. I still get the same error
I am using SQL Server express so the option of an automated server agent job to import the excel file is not available.
I'm a newbie to SQL. I'm using SQL Server 2012 on my local machine and I need to find a way to output my queries as Excel files. I came across these codes for Interactive SQL (what is intercative SQL by the way?) but they don't work in the SQL query window:
SELECT * FROM SalesOrders; OUTPUT USING 'Driver=Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls); DBQ=c: estsales.xls; READONLY=0' INTO "newSalesData";
It seems the "OUTPUT" command is not a valid command. I really liked that piece of code (may be because it is so simple and carries over very few lines)! Do we have something similar for SQL Server 2012 that can do the job?
I have a Games table in a SQL Server 2012 database with game results from our league, including home and away scores, dates, and teams. How can I query to list streaks - that is, wins or losses of 2 more games in a row throughout a season?
I have an excel file which i am reading through SSIS through MICROSOFT Office 12.0 Access Database Engine OLE DB Provider. My problem is that if the Excel file has data in a column as 123.45 which is displayed as 123. SSIS is able to pick 123 only and not 123.45. however if I change the data type to Numeric in the excel, SSIS is able to read data as 123.45.Any solution other than changing data type in Excel?
I have a directory with images and a table in my DB with the path of each file. The main application allow me to create reports where I can display an image, so I was thinking to use a query like:
SELECT [ID] ,[PT_CODE] ,[FILE_PATH], CASE WHEN [FILE_PATH] IS NOT NULL THEN (SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET(BULK [FILE_PATH], SINGLE_BLOB) TT) END AS IMAGE_LOADED FROM [DB].[dbo].[TABLE_MR_FILES]But I keep getting the error:
Incorrect syntax near 'FILE_PATH'.I have try multiple combinations without luck to make the OPENROWSET read the path stored in the column [FILE_PATH]. What am I missing?
Note: I am using MSSQL 2012. I don't want to import the images into the DB just load them in the fly as needed by the report runned from the application. I have full access to the DB so if a store procedure is the solution I can go with it.
I am using VS2012 and creating a package on a 64bit machine to import some data from a .xlsx file. My question is that I am getting an error for the Excel connection manager, do I need to install some kind of excel drive or excel itself on the machine in order to be able to import the data?
I am using vs 2010 and I have an .xls file that I am trying to import into SQL Server 2012, and I have most of it figured out, but I have a date field that is giving me problems, and what I would like to do is put that date in a variable so I can add it to every record in my SQL Table.
I am using a SQL Task Editor with an excel connection and I have no problem getting other data from the excel document and putting into my variable, its just the date that I have problems.
I asked a similar question like this yesterday but i didnt work the way I wanted it to work. So I will ask in a diffrent way:
I have an Excel list which i want to import into a table in my SQL Server 2005. The ServerTable has one more column (for the the primary key which is created automatically) than the ExcelList. How can i import the ExcelList in a way so that I the first column of my ServerTable is not filled by a column of my ExcelList??
That is how far I came:
select * into SQLServerTable FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0', 'Excel 8.0;Database=D: esting.xls;HDR=YES', 'SELECT * FROM [Sheet1$]')
I have a test server (TEST1) running SQL 2012 and Windows 2012R2. One of the developers wants to use OPENROWSET to read in data from an Excel 2010 file (an xlsx file).
I have loaded the Microsoft Drivers in "AccessDatabaseEngine_64.exe" and enabled the Ad Hoc Distributed Queries option in SQL.
This is the sample code we are working with:
SELECT X.MEMBID FROM OPENROWSET( 'MSDASQL', 'Driver={Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls, *.xlsx, *.xlsm, *.xlsb)};DBQ=etworkserverFolder1Folder2MEMBIDs.xlsx', 'SELECT * FROM [Sheet1$]' ) AS X
I can run the sample query from my laptop with SSMS (I have admin rights) and I can also run it as SA from my laptop. So all is good, right?
But if I RDC into TEST1, I cannot run the query. I get this error:
OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "(null)" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Excel Driver] Your network access was interrupted. To continue, close the database, and then open it again.". OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "(null)" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Excel Driver]General error Unable to open registry key Temporary (volatile) Ace DSN for process 0x574 Thread 0xb74 DBC 0x1d07f08 Excel'.". OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "(null)" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Excel Driver]General error Unable to open registry key Temporary (volatile) Ace DSN for process 0x574 Thread 0xb74 DBC 0x1d07f08 Excel'.". Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "(null)".But wait! It gets better.
I can run the query as SA from TEST1.
And of course, the developer can't run it either.
And it works fine in the production server.
I'm thinking the basics are there but something isn't right in some permission somewhere.
I need to process a 2012 Excel file. In SSIS Connection Manager, I am only given an option until Excel 2007 version. When I use this in my connection for Excel Source, I am prompted with this error when I attempt to select the name of the sheet:
"Could not retrieve the table information for the connection manager 'Excel Connection Manager'.
Failed to connect to the source using the connection manager 'Excel Connection Manager'"
Trying to upload excel in server where excel is not installed. BIDs was there in the server, when i am trying to craete Excel source I am not able.what the workround for this.. How to upload excel without excel installed on the server.
I need to export the data directly using a query from sql server. This is just a temporary extract. Copy pasting the result in excel is giving mis-alignment.
So at the moment, I don't have a function by the name CONCATENATE. What I like to do is to list all those different values that go with a single CASE_ID to appear as a a comma separate list. You might have a better way of doing without even writing a function
I'm trying to query an excel file and I get a mistake. The query is as follows:
SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0', 'Excel 8.0;Database=C:ExcelFile.xls', 'select * from Sheet1')
and I get the following error message:
Server: Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 OLE DB provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' reported an error. [OLE/DB provider returned message: The Microsoft Jet database engine could not find the object 'Book1'. Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and the path name correctly.] OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' IColumnsInfo::GetColumnsInfo returned 0x80004005: ].
I have attached some test data for you that has two temp tables "#worker" and "#worker_rate".
The issue is to find all workers who are sharing SAME SET of rate_codes.
I'm able to get the output as "workers sharing same rate_codes", but unfortunately I could not get the list of workers sharing same SET of rate_codes. Also definition of SAME SET is not defined.
I have two tables, a dates table and a values table. They are joined on the date column. The date table has a range, say from today as far as 20 days from now, incrementing by 1 day each row.The values table may have a row for a day, and may not. If the day has a value I want to display that value. If the day does not have a value in the values table I want to display the last known value.
I think this can be done with windowing functions in a set based manner but have not been able to work it out. I have done it procedurally but im not happy with that at all, and really want to see if this is possible in a set based manner.Below is some simplified code to allow testing with sample data.
create table DimDate ( DateCol date ) create table TotalsData ( DateCol date
SET NOCOUNT ON; DECLARE @items TABLE (ITEM_ID INT, ITEM_NAME VARCHAR(10)) INSERT INTO @items (ITEM_ID, ITEM_NAME) SELECT 10,'ITEM 1' INSERT INTO @items (ITEM_ID, ITEM_NAME) SELECT 11,'ITEM 2' INSERT INTO @items (ITEM_ID, ITEM_NAME) SELECT 12,'ITEM 3' INSERT INTO @items (ITEM_ID, ITEM_NAME) SELECT 13,'ITEM 4' INSERT INTO @items (ITEM_ID, ITEM_NAME) SELECT 14,'ITEM 5' INSERT INTO @items (ITEM_ID, ITEM_NAME) SELECT 15,'ITEM 6' INSERT INTO @items (ITEM_ID, ITEM_NAME) SELECT 16,'ITEM 7' INSERT INTO @items (ITEM_ID, ITEM_NAME) SELECT 17,'ITEM 8' SELECT * FROM @items
-- table with categories
SET NOCOUNT ON; DECLARE @categories TABLE (CAT_ID INT, CAT_NAME VARCHAR(10)) INSERT INTO @categories (CAT_ID, CAT_NAME) SELECT 100,'WHITE' INSERT INTO @categories (CAT_ID, CAT_NAME) SELECT 101,'BLACK' INSERT INTO @categories (CAT_ID, CAT_NAME) SELECT 102,'BLUE' INSERT INTO @categories (CAT_ID, CAT_NAME) SELECT 103,'GREEN' INSERT INTO @categories (CAT_ID, CAT_NAME) SELECT 104,'YELLOW' INSERT INTO @categories (CAT_ID, CAT_NAME) SELECT 105,'CIRCLE' INSERT INTO @categories (CAT_ID, CAT_NAME) SELECT 106,'SQUARE' INSERT INTO @categories (CAT_ID, CAT_NAME) SELECT 107,'TRIANGLE' SELECT * FROM @categories
--table where categories are assigned to master categories
SET NOCOUNT ON; DECLARE @master_categories TABLE (MASTERCAT_ID INT, CAT_ID INT) INSERT INTO @master_categories (MASTERCAT_ID, CAT_ID) SELECT 1,100 INSERT INTO @master_categories (MASTERCAT_ID, CAT_ID) SELECT 1,101 INSERT INTO @master_categories (MASTERCAT_ID, CAT_ID) SELECT 1,102 INSERT INTO @master_categories (MASTERCAT_ID, CAT_ID) SELECT 1,103 INSERT INTO @master_categories (MASTERCAT_ID, CAT_ID) SELECT 1,104 INSERT INTO @master_categories (MASTERCAT_ID, CAT_ID) SELECT 2,105 INSERT INTO @master_categories (MASTERCAT_ID, CAT_ID) SELECT 2,106 INSERT INTO @master_categories (MASTERCAT_ID, CAT_ID) SELECT 2,107 SELECT * FROM @master_categories
-- items-categories assignment table
SET NOCOUNT ON; DECLARE @item_categories TABLE (CAT_ID INT, ITEM_ID INT) INSERT INTO @item_categories (CAT_ID, ITEM_ID) SELECT 100,10 INSERT INTO @item_categories (CAT_ID, ITEM_ID) SELECT 105,10 INSERT INTO @item_categories (CAT_ID, ITEM_ID) SELECT 100,11 INSERT INTO @item_categories (CAT_ID, ITEM_ID) SELECT 105,11
[code]....
So now I need to query the table @t4 in and to determine the items that are assigned to category 'WHITE' in master category 1 and to 'CIRCLE' in master category 2.The important thing is to return items that are assigned solely to 'WHITE' in master cat 1 and solely to 'CIRCLE' in master cat 2.In the above example it would be only the ITEM 1 (id=10) that is returned:
1. ITEM 2 (id=11) is not returned because it has the assignment to category 'SQUARE' in master cat 2 additionally
2. ITEM 3 (id=12) is not returned because it has the assignment to category 'BLACK' in master cat 1 additionally
3. ITEM 4 (id=13) is not returned as it does not have assignment to category 'CIRCLE' in master cat 2 but only to 'WHITE' in master cat 1
3. ITEM 5 (id=14) is not returned as it does not have assignment to category 'WHITE' in master cat 1 but only to 'CIRCLE' in master cat 2
I need to create a query (SQL 2000) that renders a formatted excel (xml or xls) file for each row that is outputted.
The details, I have a Campaign table that contains information for Auto and Life "Leads" and the data is submitted by telemarketers directly into the database. I need to render a file for each line, and it would be good if It were an Excel XML or XLS file, because that's what we've been using for a while.
I have the Excel Connection Manager and Source to read the contents from an Excel file. For some reason couple of numeric fields from the Excel worksheet are brought over as nulls even though they have a value of 300 and 150. I am not sure why this is happening. I looked into the format of the fields and they are set to General in Excel, I tried setting them to numeric and that did not help.
All the other content from the excel file is coming thru except for the 2 numeric fields.
I tried to bring the contents from the excel source to a text file in csv format and for some reason the 2 numeric fields came out as blank.
Any inputs on getting this addressed will be much appreciated.
I am deploying programatically an Excel 2007 file to a SQL Server 2005 Reporting Server. The problem is that if a file with the same name already exists, that file isn't replaced. I would like the opposite to happen. I'm using the following code:
