SQL Server 2012 :: Query To Find Games Behind In Sports Table
Nov 7, 2014
I have the following Games table:
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Games](
[ID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
[Lge] [nvarchar](255) NULL,
[GameDate] [date] NULL,
[HomeTeam] [nvarchar](255) NULL,
[Home_Score] [float] NULL,
[AwayTeam] [nvarchar](255) NULL,
[Away_Score] [float] NULL)
with the following data:
INSERT INTO [dbo].[Games2]
([Lge]
,[GameDate]
,[HomeTeam]
,[Home_Score]
,[AwayTeam]
[Code] ....
This gives the standings as:
Team B4 - 1 -
Team C1 - 1 1.5
Team A2 - 5 3
How can I query the data to find the "games behind" at any date?

I have two tables:
Club - Stores all clubs (id_club, name)
Match - Store all matches (id_club1, id_club2, dateMatch, result)
The match has club 1 and club 2.
And I Have to select all matches that clubs played with an interval less than three days between games.
This is my code:
SELECT DISTINCT a.*
FROM
Matches a
INNER JOIN
Matches b ON
[Code] ....
I tried too:
select *, DATEDIFF(day, m1.date, j2.data) from matches m1, matches m2
where abs(DATEDIFF(day, m1.dateMatch, m2.dateMatch))<3
and (m1.id_club1=m2.id_club2)
But it doesn't working. Because I have two clubs in a row. It's so difficult.

I have table 'stores' that has 3 columns (storeid, article, doc), I have a second table 'allstores' that has 3 columns(storeid(always 'ALL'), article, doc). The stores table's storeid column will have a stores id, then will have multiple articles, and docs. The 'allstores' table will have 'all' in the store for every article and doc combination. This table is like the master lookup table for all possible article and doc combinations. The 'stores' table will have the actual article and doc per storeid.
What I am wanting to pull is all article, doc combinations that exist in the 'allstores' table, but do not exist in the 'stores' table, per storeid. So if the article/doc combination exists in the 'allstores' table and in the 'stores' table for storeid of 50 does not use that combination, but store 51 does, I want the output of storeid 50, and what combination does not exist for that storeid. I will try this example:
'allstores' 'Stores'
storeid doc article storeid doc article
ALL 0010 001 101 0010 001
ALL 0010 002 101 0010 002
ALL 0011 001 102 0011 002
ALL 0011 002
So I want the query to pull the one from 'allstores' that does not exist in 'stores' which in this case would the 3rd record "ALL 0011 001".

I have my sql tables and query as shown below :
CREATE TABLE #ABC([Year] INT, [Month] INT, Stores INT);
CREATE TABLE #DEF([Year] INT, [Month] INT, SalesStores INT);
CREATE TABLE #GHI([Year] INT, [Month] INT, Products INT);
INSERT #ABC VALUES (2013,1,1);
INSERT #ABC VALUES (2013,1,2);
[code]....
I have @Year and @Month as parameters , both integers , example @Year = '2013' , @Month = '11'
SELECT T.[Year],
T.[Month]
-- select the sum for each year/month combination using a correlated subquery (each result from the main query causes another data retrieval operation to be run)
,
(SELECT SUM(Stores)
FROM #ABC
WHERE [Year] = T.[Year]
AND [Month] = T.[Month]) AS [Sum_Stores],
(SELECT SUM(SalesStores)
[code]....
What I want to do is to add more columns to the query which show the difference from the last month. as shown below. Example : The Diff beside the Sum_Stores shows the difference in the Sum_Stores from last month to this month.
Something like this :
+------+-------+------------+-----------------+-----|-----|---+-----------------
| Year | Month | Sum_Stores |Diff | Sum_SalesStores |Diff | Sum_Products |Diff|
+------+-------+------------+-----|------------+----|---- |----+--------------|
| 2013 | | | | | | | |
| 2013 | | | | | | | |
| 2013 | | | | | | | |
+------+-------+------------+-----|------------+--- |-----|----+---------| ----

I have created some dynamic sql to check a temporary table that is created on the fly for any columns that do contain data. If they do the column name is added to a dynamic sql, if not they are excluded. This looks like:
If (select sum(Case when [Sat] is null then 0 else 1 end) from #TABLE) >= 1 begin set @OIL_BULK = @OIL_BULK + '[Sat]' +',' END
However, I am currently running this on over 230 columns and large tables 1.3 mil rows and it is quite slow. How I can dynamically create a sql script that only selects the columns in the table where there is data in a speedier manner. Unfortunately it has to be on the fly because the temporary table is created on the fly.

Can't seem to make this SQL query work!
Given one table, Table1, with columns Key1 (int), Key2 (int), and Type (varchar)...
I would like to get the rows where Type is equal to 'TypeA' and Key2 is Null that do NOT have a corresponding row in the table where Type is equal to 'TypeB' and Key2 is equal to Key1 from another row
So, given the data
**KEY1** **Key2** **Type**
1 NULL TypeA
2 5 TypeA
3 1 TypeB
4 NULL TypeA
5 NULL TypeB
I would like to return only the row where Key1 = 4 because that row meets the criteria of Type='TypeA'/Key2=NULL and does not have a corresponding row with Type='TypeB'/Key1=Key2 from another row.
I have tried this and it doesn't work...
SELECT t1.Key1, t1.Key2, t1.Type
FROM Table1 t1
WHERE t1.Key2 IS NULL
AND t1.Type LIKE 'TypeA'
AND t1.Key1 NOT IN
(SELECT Key1
FROM Table1 t2
WHERE t1.Key1 = t2.Key2
AND t1.Key1 <> t2.Key1
AND t2.Type LIKE 'TypeB')

One of my varchar columns in a table has multiple key words enclosed in a pattern of special characters.
Eg: William Shakespeare was an English [##poet##], [##playwright##], and [##actor##], widely regarded as the greatest [##writer##] in the English language and the world's pre-eminent [##dramatist##]. He is often called England's national [##poet##] and the "Bard of Avon". His extant works, including some collaborations, consist of about 38 plays, 154 [##sonnets##], two long narrative [##poems##], and a few other [##verses##], of which the authorship of some is uncertain. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other [##playwright##].
I need to write to query to find all distinct key words that are enclosed within [## and ##]. My query should yield the following results from the string in the example above
[##actor##]
[##dramatist##]
[##playwright##] -- 2 occurrances, but I need it only once in my result set
[##poems##]
[##poet##] -- 2 occurrances, but I need it only once in my result set
[##sonnets##]
[##verses##]
[##writer##]
I need to run this on a large table, so I am looking for the best possible way to minimize any performance issues.
Just give you sample code, I have provided below 2 separate snippets, one with table variable and another with temp table.
DECLARE @MyTable TABLE (MyString VARCHAR (8000))
INSERT @MyTable VALUES ('William Shakespeare was an English [##poet##], [##playwright##], and [##actor##], widely regarded as the greatest [##writer##] in the English language and the world''s pre-eminent [##dramatist##]. His extant works, including some collaborations, consist of about 38 plays, 154 [##sonnets##], two long narrative [##poems##], and a few other [##verses##], of which the authorship of some is uncertain.

I then ran a SELECT statement against the same table as
SELECT * FROM TABLE

Is it possible to add another EXCEPT statement after the CTE EXCEPT statement to cover a condition not incorporated in the CTE definition?

For example, if a user account was created and given SA access then changed to read only, how can I find out who made that change? I tried searching for an answer, but kept getting no results. I'm thinking this may tie into the sys.sysusers view?

To avoid locking/blocking, or in transaction scope, we are trying make a common practice of writing coide for update commands in our all SPs based on primary key columns in where clause. I have a following scenario...
UPDATE [dbo].[TL_CST_Locker_Issuance] SET
[isActive] = 0
WHERE
LockerIssuanceId IN (SELECT LockerIssuanceId
[Code] ...
What is the better approach and should be followed to avoid locks and gain performance or best approach.

I have a table named 'DepartmentItem' which is designed with hierarchy structure. The column 'ParentId' from table DepartmentItem indicates parent-child relationship and department root among records. I have written and run a user-defined function I use recursive approach, but the function runs slowly.
My question: is there a better way to query that hierarchy table instead of using recursive?
** The current user-defined function that is written using recursive:
CREATE FUNCTION dbo.fnGetDepartmentTree
(
@departmentItemId int
)
RETURNS TABLE
AS
RETURN
with DepartmentItemTree(DepartmentItemId , DepartmentItemTypeId , ParentId, ItemOrder, Level)
[code].....
** And definition of table 'DepartmentItem' :
DepartmentItemId int IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
ParentId int NULL, -- Each department root starts when this column is NULL or the current row is department root. If it is not NULL then the current row has ParentId whose record has DepartmentItemId = ParentId of the current row (see more below)
IsActive bit NOT NULL DEFAULT ((1)),

sys.dm_sql_referencing_entities doesn't work here.
Note: i dont want to identify by FK References, for 2 reasons:
1) tables might not met with a join (just FK was defined)
2) sometimes, a join happened between tables, without an FK defined

What I need is to take each select statement in turn and add the data into a temp table. I can use any method but it needs to be the most efficient. There can also be a varying number of select statements to run through each time my job is run.

I'm very new to this so I will start from scratch and would love any advice from anyone who is more knowledgable than I.
So I have two tables, Game_Schedule and Standings
Relevant columns in Game_Schedule:
Team1 (Represents home team)
Team2 (Represents away team)
Win ('true' represents win for home team)
Loss ('true' represents win for away team)
Relevant column in Standings:
T_Name
Wins
T_Tier
THE OBJECTIVE is to count the number of wins (true values in 'Game_Schedule') for each team in 'Standings' and list them ordered by T_Tier and then Wins.
Sounded easy at first but I haven't had any success.
Here is my LATEST ATTEMPT:
SELECT (Select DISTINCT standings.T_Name from standings), Game_Schedule.Team1, standings.T_Tier, Game_Schedule.Team2, Game_Schedule.Win, Game_Schedule.Loss, (Select Count(*) FROM Game_Schedule WHERE (standings.T_Name=Game_Schedule.Team1 AND Game_Schedule.Win=1) OR (standings.T_Name=Game_Schedule.Team2 AND Game_Schedule.Loss=1)) AS Win_Counter FROM standings, Game_Schedule ORDER BY T_Tier ASC, Win_Counter DESC
Here is an INNER JOIN attempt that also did not work:
SELECT DISTINCT T_Name, T_Tier, Wins, Game_Schedule.Team1, Game_Schedule.Team2, Game_Schedule.Win, Game_Schedule.Loss FROM standings INNER JOIN Game_Schedule ON standings.T_Name=Game_Schedule.Team1 OR standings.T_Name=Game_Schedule.Team2 ORDER BY Game_Schedule.Win DESC

Let's say I have a table of data as per the below..
I'm trying to extract only the green highlighted items..
The rules applied are: Only the latest data concerning all cases, and only 1 line (the latest) per case.
As you can see in the image, I don't want the 2nd,3rd, and 4th record extracted cause they are all superseded by more recent records (identified as they are further in the table).
I've considered using either Distinct or Having? but can't get that to work.. If I could use Distinct but then ensure it's the latest record in the table that would be perfect.
