So of course there is a great deal of data in the third table. I have a where clause for start date and end date. Is there a way I could only search the third table after I know what I need from it? Report Server Windows Service Stops Running.

Jan 30, 2007

I have a test server running both 2000 and 2005 Reporting Services. Each day I have to restart the Report Server Windows service for the 2005 Report Server. This is the error I get when I try to access the Report Manager

The Report Server Windows service 'ReportServer$TSQL4' is not running. The service must be running to use Report Server. (rsReportServerServiceUnavailable) Get Online Help

After I start the Report Server Windows service using the Report Services Configuration tool I can access the 2005 Report Manager without errors. The windows service start up type is set to automatic.

I can not find why the 2005 version keeps going down.

Error While Loading DataSet In Report Project

Jan 15, 2008

Hi, when I try to open up an existing report project in VS 2005 then open the report template it will guide me to the Layout tab. Once I change the tab to Data, the following error showed up with an OK button:

TITLE: Microsoft Report Designer
------------------------------

The data extension SQL was not found in the configuration file RSReportDesigner.config.
Add the extension to the configuration file before proceeding or choose another data extension.

------------------------------

I tried creating a new dataset on the Data tab, the "Command Type" section use to have 2 selection: Text and Storeprocedure type. But now the Storeprocedure type is missing. I tried uninstall VS 2005 & SQL Server 2005 Components and reinstall them the same error still occurs.

I have no idea how to solve it, anyone encounter the same problem or able to help out please do so. Thanks in advance.

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Giant Logfiles (LDF) During Loading Data Into Memory Optimized Table

During this load the LDF File grows to size of 350 GB (until the space if the disk is run out of space). The Server has about 110 GB Memory for the SQL Server reserved. The tempdB doesn't grow. The Bucket Size in the create statement has a size of 262144. The Hash key as 4 fields`(2 fields have the datatype int,1 has smallint, 1 has varchar(200). ) The disk for the datafiles has still space for the datafiles (incl. the hekaton files).

How can I reduce the size of the ldf files during the load of the data ?

Error While Loading Code Module When Deploying A Report

I have a custom assembly that I wrote. I placed it in the GAC and the report runs fine locally. I placed it on the server in the GAC and it kicks out the following error when deploying:

Error while loading code module: €˜SSRSReporting, Version=1.0.1.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=de4c010eaf2f2fe8€™. Details: Could not load file or assembly 'SSRSReporting, Version=1.0.1.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=de4c010eaf2f2fe8' or one of its dependencies. If I put the file in the /bin directory on the server there is no issues and it works fine. I need to to deploy to the GAC though. I restarted IIS and the RS services. I still have the same issue.

Why Does A Drill-through Report Cause An Out Of Memory Error

Apr 11, 2008

I have a report with a matrix object within which I can "drill-down" through several row and column groups. The report runs, and I can successfully "drill-down" within the matrix object.

However, when I create a drill-through action that executes another report when users click on the summed number of the matrix object, the main report fails with an out of memory error. When I remove the drill-through action, the report runs successfully again. This report is important because the users need to use it to get the detailed records from the main report.

Why is this happening? Does adding the drill-through links really use up that much memory?

Is there anything I can do to correct this problem, besides play with server memory settings and/or upgrade to 64 bit? I have already passed as much of the aggregation as I can to the database; in fact, the query for the main report only pulls 1000 records!

I refuse to create an intermediary drill-through report, since the whole reason I created the first drill-through report was because the main report can't handle the detail in the first place.

Thanks.

Loading A Table Into Memory

Aug 18, 1999

I have a table with several million rows and it gets queried every day by an application. When this happens, it either ties up the server or crashes SQL 6.5 in general. Because of the thoroughness of the query, its understandable. An idea to get around the locking up was to run DBCC CHECKTABLE on this table to put it in cache and run the query.

Will this speed up the process or prevent the locks? Has anyone done this?

SQL 2012 :: Availability Group Failover Stops Working After First Failure

Apr 21, 2014

I've setup a two node Cluster Server (non-shared storage) with a file sharing witness. I'm testing some of the different failover scenarios to see that everything is working properly. Everything works fine until I try testing the failure of the SQL Server service. When I stop the SQL Service on the primary server, it fails over to the secondary server as expected. I then start the service on the (now) secondary server and it comes back online as the secondary server. I then try to test that the service will fail back over when I stop the service on the new primary server.

However, when I stop the service, the secondary server now shows "resolving" and never comes back online. When I bring the service back up on the primary server, the secondary now shows as secondary instead of resolving. So to see if it's something about failing over from one server to another, I do a manual failover making the original primary server the primary again and everything is as it was originally.

I then stop the service on the primary server, but the secondary server now says resolving and the AG will not become available again until I start the service on the primary server.

It seems that when I first configured the quorum it worked fine the first failover scenario, then stopped working. I then added the file sharing witness, and failover worked the first time again, but not after that. For some reason after the initial failover it won't automatically failover again after that.

Config:

Servers: Windows Server 2012 Standard
SQL : SQL Server 2012 Enterprise SP1

SQL Server 2012 :: Loading Image From File System Into Query Using Openrowset

May 14, 2014

I have a directory with images and a table in my DB with the path of each file. The main application allow me to create reports where I can display an image, so I was thinking to use a query like:

SELECT [ID]
,[PT_CODE]
,[FILE_PATH],
CASE WHEN [FILE_PATH] IS NOT NULL THEN
(SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET(BULK [FILE_PATH], SINGLE_BLOB) TT)
END
AS IMAGE_LOADED
FROM [DB].[dbo].[TABLE_MR_FILES]But I keep getting the error:

Incorrect syntax near 'FILE_PATH'.I have try multiple combinations without luck to make the OPENROWSET read the path stored in the column [FILE_PATH]. What am I missing?

Note: I am using MSSQL 2012. I don't want to import the images into the DB just load them in the fly as needed by the report runned from the application. I have full access to the DB so if a store procedure is the solution I can go with it.

SQL Server 2012 :: Loading And Reformatting Text File Data Into Table

May 29, 2015

I am looking for a way to convert the following format into a sql table. The format it is Bib Tex.

Essentially a new row in the table would be for each entry, denoted by an @ logo and each column is denoted by an =, as you can see from the example data no one contains all the possible columns and some fields can be over two lines long.

To load this I was considering loading it into a table as each line being a row. Adding a row number, then a column counting the @ signs in order and essentially grouping each record, then for each group running through and looking for the column keywords 'author' , 'title' etc then splitting the data out into those constituent parts using substring and charindex.

@Book{hicks2001,
author = "von Hicks, III, Michael",
title = "Design of a Carbon Fiber Composite Grid Structure for the GLAST

SQL Server 2012 :: Fast Data Loading With Partition Switching Strategy

Jul 28, 2015

Iā€™m looking for clearity on partition switching. The idea is to use many BULK INSERT statements into table dbo.X_n in parallel and when BULK INSERT for table dbo.X_n is completed, switch dbo.X_n into dbo.bigdaddy. I think this is the fastest way to upload a couple hundred GB of data.

In learning about partition switching (in part) from The Data Loading Performance Guide under Partition SWITCH, I hear the instructions to say copy the main table exactly to become a target. But in that same step (#1), I read that we need to change the default file group of the target (dbo.X_n) from the default file group. Then it says I need to match indexes and lists the filegroup as something we need to match with the main table.

As an overview of the partition switching strategy, I think the whole point of BULK INSERT with partitioning is to have seperate files (in same group) to enable concurrent uploading where each table has its own file. Once the upload is completed to a table (dbo.X_n) then we do the partition switch into the main table (dbo.bigdaddy). The data we just uploaded doesnā€™t actually move, just the metadata for it.

ā€œDonā€™t have the same filegroup on your target as the main table. You must have the same filegroup on your target as the main table.ā€

How should i start analyzing and setting the right value of this MAX and MIN?

SQL 2012 :: Memory Usage Extremely High And Causes Server To Crash

Jun 11, 2015

I have been having issues with our SQL server for awhile now. It seems to run out of memory every few days and when I look at the memory dump, the MEMORYCLERK_SQLOPTIMIZER seem to take over memory and eventually cause the server to crash.

Here is the SQL verison we are using: Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (SP1) - 11.0.3460.0 (X64) Jul 22 2014 15:22:00 Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation Enterprise Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.2 (Build 9200: ) (Hypervisor)..It is on a VM on Windows 2012 server. It has 20gb of RAM allocated to it and the MAX Server Memory is set to 16.5gb.

I have seen the MEMORYCLERK_SQLOPTIMIZER grow to about 11gb at the time of the server crash. Why that is happening? What is causing the memoryclerk_sqloptimizer to get so high? I have looked it up and it looks like it has to do with ad hoc requests, but is there something I can do to bring that memory down when it gets so high so that I can prevent a server crash?Do we just need to add more memory or is there a memory leak somewhere?

SQL Server 2008 :: Error Loading A Query Into DTA

Nov 12, 2012

I am trying to look into a query thats taking 5 mins to execute on our production. Its an LinQ generated 6000 Line SQL query that the dev team is trying to put into production without any testing. They want me to add indexes to the database( brand new) so that the query will run fast. The execution plan really looks weird. So Just as a starter I tried to tune it using the DTA and I am getting the below error. I am using a .sql query file as the input.

The minimum storage space required for the selected physical design structures exceeds the default storage space selected by Database Engine Tuning Advisor. Either keep fewer physical design structures, or increase the default storage space to be larger than at least 441 MB.Use one of the following methods to increase storage space: (1) If you are using the graphical user interface, enter the required value for Define max. space for recommendations (MB) in the Advanced Options of the Tuning Options tabbed page; (2) If you are using dta.exe, specify the maximum space value for the -B argument; (3) If you are using an XML input file, specify the maximum space value for the <StorageBoundInMB> element under <Tuning Options>

My question is what value is the maximum value that I should consider adding per recommendation (2) in the above error.

DTExec Stops Running Without Error Message

Sep 10, 2007

For a client i have built an application to give them the possibility to load packages for their data warehouse.

This application starts a database job in SQL Server, which in turn starts a dtsx package. This package loops over the contents of a table and starts the packages that are marked to be executed.

This all work well most of the time. Sometimes though, DTExec, the process running the packages, just stops running. There are no entries in the event viewer or anywhere else.

I run Windows Server 2003 with SQL Server 2005 SE SP1. The packages are run from the filesystem, not the database.

Has anyone encountered the same problem and know a solution? I can't find any info on the internet.

SQL 2012 :: Configuring Memory Per Query Option And Index Create Memory Option

Feb 10, 2015

So I started a new job recently and have noticed a few strange configurations. Typically I would never mess with min memory per query option and index create memory option configuration because i just haven't seen any need to. My typical thought is that if it isn't broke... They have been modified on every single server in my environment.

From Books Online:
ā€¢ This option is an advanced option and should be changed only by an experienced database administrator or certified SQL Server technician.
ā€¢ The index create memory option is self-configuring and usually works without requiring adjustment. However, if you experience difficulties creating indexes, consider increasing the value of this option from its run value.

SQL 2012 :: Error When Running SSISDB Execution Report

Nov 15, 2013

Whenever you connect to a database server that is running SQL 2012 integration services, then you right click on SSISDB, choose "Reports, then Standard Reports, then Executions" there is a display of each execution and options to drill down.

There is a particular execution that when I click to see "All Messages" I get a blank screen in SSMS with the following error: "Error: and error occurred during local report processing. --> An error has occurred during report processing. --> Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown."

Before I go add more memory to this SQL box, I need to understand how an out of the box, canned SSRS report such as this, which is built into Integration Services could produce this issue?

Loading Image Url Into Report At Runtime

Apr 8, 2008

Hello All,

Unfortunatelly, I am a very newbie when it comes to SQL Server Reporting Rervices

I'm currently working on a prototype for a GIS system. It is a web application where the user can select and scroll certain maps (will look like google maps).
The user can print the currently displayed view of the map (including some other data) via a report using the SQL Server Reporting Services infrastructure.

As far as I know, it is possible to add images on the report at built time (using url, database or file in project). Is it also possible to add an image at runtime by passing as parameter? My idea is that when the user wants to print the report, the url to the image of the map would be send to the server and the server would call the report, passing the url of the user. And the report is printed with the image referenced by that url?

I hope, that you understand somehow, what my problem is... I tried to search this forum, but couldn't find any ideas.

Best regards
Christian
