Urgent : How To Find Whih Table Has Unique Index

Jun 28, 2004

I have many databses and we are trying to see how many can be replicated. Found out 90 on't have primary keys.
Next option, find unique indexed tables and convert them to PKeys. Now my question is how do I fin that a table has a unique index and column has "allow null" Please remember I am not asking to find Unique constraint.

In other words , folowing query
select TABLE_NAME from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLE_CONSTRAINTS where CONSTRAINT_TYPE in('UNIQUE') won't tell you if a table has a unique index.

Please help.

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Joining On A Table With Unique Clustered Index

Mar 7, 2015

I have three sprocs and three tables. I was told to use a clustered index in the first table and a unique clustered index on the second table. I never asked about the third table and the person I need to ask is on vacation. Most of the contents of the first table will be joined with all of the contents of the second table into the third table. Do I need to have a unique clustered index on the third table too?

The clustered index in the first sproc is on a unique key that I had created using by concatenating several columns together.

CREATE CLUSTERED INDEX IX_UNIQUE_KEY ON MRP.Margin_Optimization_Data (UNIQUE_KEY);
CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX IX_DATE ON MRP.Margin_Optimization_Data (PERIOD);
CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX IX_ODS_ID ON MRP.Margin_Optimization_Data
(GL_SEG1_COMPANY_ODS_ID, GL_SEG2_PROFIT_CTR_ODS_ID, GL_SEG3_LOB_ODS_ID, GL_SEG4_PRODUCT_DEPT_ODS_ID, GL_SEG5_ACCOUNT_ODS_ID);

The second sproc with the unique clustered index is on the unique key from the first table and a date attribute.

CREATE UNIQUE CLUSTERED INDEX IX_UNIQUE_KEY ON MRP.[MGN_OPT_KPI_SOURCE] (UNIQUE_KEY, PERIOD);

In the third sproc, I'll have a nonclusted index on the ODS_ID attributes, but I'm unsure of how to go about the clustered index situation.

CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX IX_ODS_ID ON MRP.MGN_OPT_KPI_VALUES
(GL_SEG1_COMPANY_ODS_ID, GL_SEG2_PROFIT_CTR_ODS_ID, GL_SEG3_LOB_ODS_ID, GL_SEG4_PRODUCT_DEPT_ODS_ID, GL_SEG5_ACCOUNT_ODS_ID);

What Is The Difference Between A UNIQUE INDEX And A UNIQUE CONSTRAINT?

Sep 22, 2004

A UNIQUE INDEX must inherently impose a unique constraint and a UNIQUE CONSTRAINT is most likely implemented via a UNIQUE INDEX. So what is the difference? When you create in Enterprise Manager you must select one or the other.

Unique Constraint And Unique Index, What's The Difference?

Jun 24, 2006

What's the difference in the effect of the followings:
CREATE UNIQUE NONCLUSTERED INDEX
and
ALTER TABLE dbo.titles ADD CONSTRAINT

I found there're two settings in Indexs/Keys dialog box of the management studio, Is Unique, and Type. The DDL statements above are generated by setting Is Unique to yes plus Type to Index, and just Type to Unique Key, respectively. What's the difference between them?

SQL Server 2005; Unique Constraint, Covering Index Question

Aug 9, 2006

Hi,

When I create a unique constraint, SQL Server automatically creates an index on this constraint. So when I run the following...

ALTER TABLE PersonsProjects
WITH NOCHECK ADD CONSTRAINT NoDupes UNIQUE NONCLUSTERED (PersonID, ProjectID)

...SQL Server will create a composite index on PersonsProjects called NoDupes on PersonIDand ProjectID. Thing is, I need this index to include a third column Status since most queries use this column in conjunction with PersonID and ProjectID. If there was no index on this table, I would have created it as follows:

CREATE UNIQUE INDEX NoDupes ON PersonsProjects (PersonID, ProjectID) INCLUDE (Status) WITH IGNORE_DUP_KEY

But this won't enforce the unique constraint on PersonID and ProjectID when performing inserts and updates. Is there any way of creating a unique constraint with an included column?

I would rather not have two indexes...

NoDupes: PersonID,ProjectID

New Index: PersonID,ProjectID INCLUDE Status

...so I'm trying to determine what other options that might be available...please advise.

Thanks much.

Unique Index Vs Unique Constraint

Mar 7, 2001

Hi everyone,
I need urgent help to resolve this issue...
As far as the performance goes which one is better..
Unique Index(col1, col2) OR Unique constraint(col1, col2) ?
Unique constraint automatically adds a unique index
and unique index takes care of uniqueness then whats the use of unique constraint ?

Which one do one use ?

SQL Server 2014 :: Error On Unique Index - Duplicate Key When Insert / Select

Aug 4, 2014

I have an issue where I am getting an error on an unique index.

I know why I am getting the error but not sure how to get around it.

The query does a check on whether a unique value exists in the Insert/Select. If I run it one record at a time (SELECT TOP 1...) it works fine and just won't update it if the record exists.

But if I do it in a batch, I get the error. I assume this is because it does the checking on the file before records are written out and then writes out the records one at a time from a temporary table.

It thinks all the records are unique because it compares the records one at a time to the original table (where there would be no duplicates). But it doesn't check the records against each other. Then when it actually writes out the record, the duplicate is there.

How do I do a batch where the Insert/Select would write out the records without the duplicates as it does when I do it one record at a time.

CREATE TABLE #TestTable
(
Name varchar(50),
Email varchar (40)
)
Insert #TestTable (Name,Email) Values('Tom', 'tom@aol.com')

[Code] .....

Converting DB2 Timestamp Data To SQL Server 2005 - Problems With Unique Index

May 24, 2007

I am attempting to move a timestamp data column from DB2 to SQL Server 2005. Normally not a big deal but the column is part of unique index.

The DB2 timestamp has seconds of ss.ssssss but SQL Server only has ss.sss.

Most all the times entered into this column are a from an automated process so they are really close together timewise.

Here is what I have come up with so far:

1. Fast Load OLEDB with a batch of 10,000 records at a time

2. On the fail of the batch redirect rows to a regular table load OLEDB insert task

3. On the fail of the single insert redirect rows to script that ups the seconds one tick.

4. Attempt one last insert of the modified rows

5. If fail, then store the record off to a delimited text file

I am hoping to get the number of records that wind up in the delimited text file to be a very small number and not in the 1,000+.

Any help would be appreciated.

It will return the text found in a .pptx but not in a pdf. There are no errors in the FT-log. It tells me that the FT-index is succesfully build.

I have downloaded the iFilter for Adobe (installed it in a folder with a short name), set the temp variable to the bin folder of the installation.

I've executed the following queries:

EXEC sp_fulltext_service 'update_languages';
EXEC sp_fulltext_service 'load_os_resources', 1;
EXEC sp_fulltext_service 'restart_all_fdhosts';
Exec sp_fulltext_service 'verify_signature', 0

When I run the following statement, it'll show pdf in the resultset.

SELECT * FROM sys.fulltext_document_types order by document_type

Still, content is not found.

SQL 2012 :: Rebuilding Online Clustered Index Locks Table

Jun 3, 2014

I was under impression that rebuilding index online largely means that the index will remain available for use during rebuild and my procs and query will be able to use it during rebuild. Also my understanding was that table will be locked very briefly while the schema change will be completing.But when I was rebuilding the clustered index online on a large table with some 3 million records, the table got locked and I was not able even to read the data from it for some 5 minutes. Then I cancelled the operation as it was production server and it was one of our main transaction table.

Is rebuilding index online supposed to work this way? The table has no other index.The parameteres I used are:

REBUILD WITH (PAD_INDEX = ON, SORT_IN_TEMPDB = ON, ONLINE = ON, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON, FILLFACTOR = 95)
