I have a lot of rows of hours, set up like this: 0745, 0800, 2200, 1145 and so on (varchar(5), for some reason).
These are converted into a smalldatetime like this:
CONVERT(smalldatetime, STUFF(timestarted, 3, 0, ':')) [this would give output like this - 1900-01-01 11:45:00]
This code has been in place for years...and we stick the date on later from another column.
But recently, it's started to fail for some rows, with "The conversion of a varchar data type to a smalldatetime data type resulted in an out-of-range value".
My assumption is that new data being added in is junk. If I query for these values and just list them (rather than adding a column to convert them also) that's fine, of course. I've checked all the stuffed (but not yet converted - so 11:45 rather than 1145) output to see if it ISDATE(), and it is. There are no times with hours > 23 or minutes greater than 59 either.
If I add the CONVERT in, we see the error message. But here's the oddity, if I place all of the rows into a holding table, and retry the conversion, there is no error. It's this last bit that is puzzling me. Plus I can't see any errors in the hours data that would cause a conversion problem.
I've put the whole of this into a cursor to try to trap the error rows too, but all processes fine. Why would it fail if NOT in a cursor?
I am getting inconsistent results when BULK INSERTING data from a tab-delimited text file. As part of my testing, I run the same code on the same file again and again, and I get different results every time! I get this on SQL 2005 and SQL 2012 R2.
We have an application that imports data from a spreadsheet. The sheet contains section headers with account numbers and detail rows with transactions by date:
AAAA.1234 /* (account number)*/ 1/1/2015 $150 First Transaction 1/3/2015 $24.233 Second Transaction BBBB.5678 1/1/2015 $350 Third Transaction 1/3/2015 $24.233 Fourth Transaction
My Import program saves this spreadsheet at tab-delimited text, then I use BULK INSERT to bring the data into a generic table full of varchar(255) fields. There are about 90,000 rows in each day's data; after the BULK INSERT about half of them are removed for various reasons.
Next I add a RowID column to the table with the IDENTITY (1,1) property. This gives my raw data unique row numbers.
I then run a routine that converts and copies those records into another holding table that's a copy of the final destination table. That routine parses though the data, assigning the account number in the section header to each detail row. It ends up looking like this:
AAAA.1234 1/1/2015 $150 First Purchase AAAA.1234 1/3/2015 $24.233 Second Purchase BBBB.5678 1/1/2015 $350 Third Purchase BBBB.5678 1/3/2015 $24.233 Fourth Purchase
My technique: I use a cursor to get the starting RowID for each Account Number: I then use the upper and lower RowIDs to do an INSERT into the final table. The query looks like this:
SELECT RowID, SUBSTRING(RowHeader, 6,4) + '.UBC1' AS AccountNumber FROM GenericTable WHERE RowHeader LIKE '____.____%'
Results look like this:
But every time I run the routine, I get different numbers!
Needless to say, my results are not accurate. I get inconsistent results EVERY TIME. Here is my code, with table, field and account names changed for business confidentiality.
TRUNCATE TABLE GenericImportTable; ALTER TABLE GenericImportTable DROP COLUMN RowID; BULK INSERT GenericImportTable FROM 'SERVERGeneralAppnameDataFile.2015.05.04.tab.txt' WITH (FIELDTERMINATOR = ' ', ROWTERMINATOR = '', FIRSTROW = 6) ALTER TABLE GenericImportTable ADD RowID int IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL SELECT RowID, SUBSTRING(RowHeader, 6,4) + '.UBC1' AS AccountNumber FROM GenericImportTable WHERE RowHeader LIKE '____.____%'
Apologies if this has already been asked and answered, though I haven't found it via search.
In my report model I have a lookup entity that consists of a Code field (PK) and a Description field this is linked to a parent entity (table) and works fine, e.g. the description is shown in the parent entity instead of the FK code. However this lookup entity would be useful linked to many other entities (tables) which use the same FK code linked to the lookup entity's Code field (PK) for use of the Description field. In my first attempt I linked the lookup to a second table entity but unlike the originally linked table entity, this is not shown as the description in report builder, only the role appears and I have to select the role then the description from the 2 fields displayed (Code, Description), additionally I get shown the related first table entity.
Firstly can a lookup entity be linked to multiple tables? Secondly, if so am I forgetting something so only the description is shown like in the first linked table entity? Thirdly, if I correct the problem is there a property I need to enable/disable to stop the first linked table entity appearing in the second table entity entity list in report builder or should I just leave it?
Any help/advice/suggestions would be appreciated, and apologies for long list of questions but all the books and help files I have used don't seem to use imperfect/real life data sources and examples.
I do not see the forum for Reporting Services, so I will post this here for now. I have a VB Script that I would like to use as a Function to return the Weekday Name for me in Reporting Services.
[code] Function rDateTime(rDate, rTime)
DIM myDay, myDayName, myMonthName , myYear, myTime DIM myAMPM, myHour, myColon, myMinute
'get AM or PM from the time myAMPM = Right(rTime,2)
'get Hour and Minute myColon = instr(1, rTime, ":",vbBinaryCompare)
IF myColon = 2 THEN myHour = Left(rTime,1) myMinute = Mid(rTime, 3, 2) ELSE myHour = Left(rTime,2) myMinute = Mid(rTime, 4, 2) END IF
'concatenate the time myTime = myHour & ":" & myMinute & " " & myAMPM
'get weekday number myDayName = weekday(rDate)
'convert weekday number to weekday name myDayName = weekdayname(myDayName)
'get the day, e.g. oct 19, 2002, will return 19 myDay = Day(rDate)
'get month number myMonthName = Month(rDate)
'convert month number to month name (abbreviation True) myMonthName = MonthName(myMonthName, True)
How should I use this as a funciton in SQL Server Reporting Services? I think that I need to use a calculated field. Am I correct or what do I need to do to implment this. This code will return the Weekday Name which is what I need.
Hello, Can anyone tell me, how to convert an rtf string to text string using a function in SQL Server? I got a table in SQL Server database with field datatype text(16), which holds an rtf. I've to extract it as a text using a function. thank you,
I have this function in access I need to be able to use in ms sql. Having problems trying to get it to work. The function gets rid of the leading zeros if the field being past dosn't have any non number characters. For example:TrimZero("000000001023") > "1023"TrimZero("E1025") > "E1025"TrimZero("000000021021") > "21021"TrimZero("R5545") > "R5545"Here is the function that works in access:Public Function TrimZero(strField As Variant) As String Dim strReturn As String If IsNull(strField) = True Then strReturn = "" Else strReturn = strField Do While Left(strReturn, 1) = "0" strReturn = Mid(strReturn, 2) Loop End If TrimZero = strReturnEnd Function
I am new to T-SQL development and here's what I am trying to do.
declare @cmd varchar(255) set @cmd = 'select dbid from sys.sysdatabases where dbid not in (1,2,3,4)'
while (@cmd <=13) begin insert into #dbcheck values (@cmd) Set @cmd = @cmd + 1 end
but it is giving me an error
'Msg 245, Level 16, State 1, Line 3 Conversion failed when converting the varchar value 'select dbid from sys.sysdatabases where dbid not in (1,2,3,4)' to data type int.'
I have log files that I am loading into a table with duration data in the format "xx hrs xx min xx sec". Only the parts that are required will be there so if duration is only 2 seconds , the column will show "2 sec".
I am trying to get the duration into in to do some analysis on it and I have come up with this query so far which returns the correct data but i am wondering if there is a way to do what I am trying in a more readable format.
CREATE TABLE #tmp(duration VARCHAR(20))
INSERT INTO #tmp VALUES ('1 hrs 20 min 12 sec'), --4812 sec ('48 sec'), --48 sec ('39 min 1 sec'), --2341 sec ('11 hrs 1 min 1 sec'), --39661 sec ('59 min 0 sec'), --3540 sec ('2 min 50 sec') --170 sec
In VBA, CLng(Now) will return the integer portion of a date CLng(Now) returns 41928, CDate(41928) then returns 10/16/2014. Is there something equivalent in SQL Server that will allow me to convert an integer value to a date?
In short, how can I convert a 100 year date to Gregorian (any format)?
I need my code to add the varchar CPUTM field + varchar CPUZIPTIM field which both has time values to see if greater than 2 hours. How do I do this when both fields are varchar. The value in CPUTM field is 335:55:20.97 duration time. My code is below.
CPUTM = 335:55:20.97 duration time CPUZIPTM = 0:00:01.96 duration time
select * FROM [SMF_DATA].[dbo].[System_Management_Facility] WHERE ((convert(varchar(13), CONVERT(time, CPUTM) + CONVERT(time, CPUZIPTM))) > '02:00:00.00')
How do I use the CAST or CONVERT function in the code below, I require a third column (named Diff) which Minus the StartTime from the EndTime and the result is outputted in the third column (named Diff).
Calculation: @Diff = (@EndTime - @StartTime)
I still want the variables (@StartTime and @EndTime) to remain as nvarchar.
The code:
DECLARE @StartTime nvarchar(10) = '12:10'; DECLARE @EndTime nvarchar(10) = '12:30'; DECLARE @Diff time(1) = '00:00'; SELECT @StartTime AS '@StartTime', @EndTime AS '@EndTimes', @Diff AS '@Diff';
I have 5 columns in my database. 1 column is coming like a dynamic.
I want to convert records from rows to columns. Currently I have a data like this.
Race AgeRange Amount
W 17-20 500 W 21-30 400 W 31-40 200 A 17-20 100 H 41-50 250 H 51-60 290
So age range is not fixed and it can be any and I have one separate relational table for age range where it's coming from. Now I want to convert it into columns like
I want to convert all the column of table to ToBase64String.
Public Class ScriptMain Inherits UserComponent Dim md5 As MD5CryptoServiceProvider = New MD5CryptoServiceProvider() Public Overrides Sub Input0_ProcessInputRow(ByVal Row As Input0Buffer) Dim columnContents As Byte() = UnicodeEncoding.Unicode.GetBytes(Row.Col001 + Row.Col002 + Row.Col003 + Row.Col004 + Row.Col005 + Row.Col006 + Row.Col007 + Row.Col008 + Row.Col009 + Row.Col010 + Row.Col011 + Row.Col012 + Row.Col013 + Row.Col014) Dim hash As Byte() = md5.ComputeHash(columnContents) Dim hashString As String = Convert.ToBase64String(hash, Base64FormattingOptions.None) Row.RowChecksum = hashString End Sub End Class
In my source query I want to change the value of Source table ,Destination table and BBX expression dynamically on the basis of input file.
Purpose of making dynamic is that I have created separate sp for all the input, my clients want to have sungle dynamic sp which will execute on the basis of input file.this input file name I wil get fromm variable which i have created in SSIS Package.
Lets consider @File_name is the variable in package which store the file name
if file name is CCTFB then my query should take the Source table ,Destination table and BBX expression value from file master table.
Like that I have 100 of source query and evry query have diffrent number of columns. How can I change the column number in uodate and insert statement dynamically on run time.
CAST(SUBSTRING(Col001,1,6) + SUBSTRING(Col002,1,10) AS varchar(100)) :-It creates a key for comparing, this value i can take it from filemaster HASHBYTES('MD5', CAST(CHECKSUM(Col001, Col002,Col003,Col004) AS varchar(max))) -here numberv of column need to be changed . (SUBSTRING(SOURCE.Col001,1,6) + SUBSTRING(SOURCE.Col002,1,10)) this condition also i can take it from file master.
[Code] ....
I am able to get inserted and updated rowcount, but not able to get the matching records count.
SELECT TOP (100) PERCENT dbo.Filteredfs_franchise.fs_franchiseid AS FranchiseId, dbo.Filteredfs_franchise.fs_brandidname AS Brand, dbo.Filteredfs_franchise.fs_franchisetypename AS [Franchise Type], dbo.Filteredfs_franchise.fs_franchisenumber AS [Franchise Number], dbo.Filteredfs_franchise.fs_transactiontypename AS [Transaction Type], dbo.Filteredfs_franchise.fs_franchisestatusname AS [Status Code],
[Code] ....
I need to pivot this so I can get one row per franchiseID and multiple columns for [Franchisee Name Entity] and [Franchise Name Individual]. Each [Franchisee Name Entity] and [Franchise Name Individual] has associated percentage of ownership.
This has to be dynamic, because each FranchiseID can have anywhere from 1 to 12 respective owners and those can be any combination of of Entity and Individual. Please, see the attached example for Franchise Number 129 (that one would have 6 additional columns because there are 3 Individual owners with 1 respective Percentage of ownership).
The question is how do I PIVOT and preserve the percentage of ownership?
I have a scalar function, which calculates the similarity of two strings. I use the following query, to compare the entries of one table against the value 'Test' and return the entries, which have a value > 50:
;WITH cte1 AS ( SELECT b.FirstName, (SELECT fn_similarity('Test', b.FirstName)) AS [Value], b.LastName FROM [AdventureWorks2012].[Person].[Person] b )
SELECT * FROM cte1 WHERE [Value] > 50.00 ORDER BY [Value] DESC
Now I want to use this query against the first 50 entries of the [Person] table, so that the resultset includes all the values of the first 50 persons and the entries, which are similar to them.
At the moment I use a WHILE-loop and write the five single resultsets in a temporary table. Is there another way / a better way, maybe via a join?
I have setup CDC on 50 tables and then in one SP I’m calling all cdc function like below issue is I'm getting error “an insufficient number of arguments were supplied for the procedure or function cdc.fn_cdc_get_all_changes ... .” as error is not mentioning for which capture instance I'm getting this error so not able to find.
select * from cdc.fn_cdc_get_all_changes_<capture_instance>(@from_lsn, @to_lsn, 'all update old') union all select * from cdc.fn_cdc_get_all_changes_<capture_instance>(@from_lsn, @to_lsn, 'all update old') union all select * from cdc.fn_cdc_get_all_changes_<capture_instance>(@from_lsn, @to_lsn, 'all update old') union all select * from cdc.fn_cdc_get_all_changes_<capture_instance>(@from_lsn, @to_lsn, 'all update old') union all select * from cdc.fn_cdc_get_all_changes_<capture_instance>(@from_lsn, @to_lsn, 'all update old') union all select * from cdc.fn_cdc_get_all_changes_<capture_instance>(@from_lsn, @to_lsn, 'all update old') union all select * from cdc.fn_cdc_get_all_changes_<capture_instance>(@from_lsn, @to_lsn, 'all update old')
We are planning to convert or change all existing Traces to Extended Events in SQL server 2012. What is the procedure to convert custom traces. We have already created some below custom traces: like this we are planning to convert for all servers.
I have an existing function and need to alter function to give result of the values multipiled until its parent is reached.need two seperate functions for city and amt columns..need to also display the parent-description
I have the following query that supposes to merge multiple result in a single one and put it into a temporary table:
SELECT DISTINCT [AlphaExtension], STUFF((SELECT A.[NoteText] + '< BR />' FROM #temp A WHERE A.[AlphaExtension]=B.[AlphaExtension] FOR XML PATH('')),1,1,'') As [NoteText] FROM #temp B GROUP BY [AlphaExtension], [NoteText]
It is working fine unless by a simple detail. If you look at the second line of the query you will see that I am stuffing together a < BR /> tag (break line) because the contents of the field is going to be spitted directly to the screen and I want that the multiple results be displayed in different lines.
OK, the issue is that it is stuffing & lt ; BR / & gt ; instead < BR /> and therefore the browser is displaying the tag instead to break a line.
I am having staging table with separted by '¯'.I want to split the data with given number .i have given 31 means my main table have 31 column. it should handle the less or more column.
