SqlDataReader - Pulling Multiple Values Into Multiple Variables

Mar 29, 2007

Hello all,I'm trying to request a number of URLS (one for each user) from my database, then place each of these results into a separate string variables. I believed that SqlDataReader could do this for me, but I am unsure of how to accomplish this, or if I am walking down the wrong road. The current code is below (the section in question is in bold), please ignore the fact that I'm using MySQL as the commands work in the same way. public partial class main : System.Web.UI.Page{    String UserName;    String userId;    String HiveConnectionString;    String Current_Location;    ArrayList Location;    public String Location1;    public String Location2;    public String Location3;    //Int32 x = 0;    private void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)    {        if (User.Identity.IsAuthenticated)        {            UserName = Membership.GetUser().ToString();            userId = Membership.GetUser().ProviderUserKey.ToString();            HiveConnectionString = "Database=hive;Data Source=localhost;User Id=hive_admin;Password=West7647";            using (MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlConnection conn = new MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlConnection(HiveConnectionString))            {                // Map Updates                 MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlCommand Locationcmd = new MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlCommand(                        "SELECT Location FROM tracker WHERE Location = IsOnline = '1'");                Locationcmd.Parameters.Add("?PKID", MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlDbType.VarChar, 255).Value = userId;                Locationcmd.Connection = conn;                conn.Open();                MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlDataReader LocationReader = Locationcmd.ExecuteReader();                 while (LocationReader.Read())                {                        Location1 = LocationReader.GetString(0);                        //Location2 = LocationReader.GetString(1); // This does not work..                }                                LocationReader.Close();                conn.Close();                // IP Display                MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlCommand Checkcmd = new MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlCommand(                        "SELECT UserName FROM tracker WHERE PKID = ?PKID");                Checkcmd.Parameters.Add("?PKID", MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlDbType.VarChar, 255).Value = userId;                Checkcmd.Connection = conn;                conn.Open();                object UserExists = Checkcmd.ExecuteScalar();                conn.Close();                if(UserExists == null)                {                    MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlCommand Insertcmd = new MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlCommand(                        "INSERT INTO tracker (PKID, UserName, IpAddress, IsOnline) VALUES (?PKID, ?Username, ?IpAddress, 1)");                                        Insertcmd.Parameters.Add("?IpAddress", MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlDbType.VarChar, 15).Value = Request.UserHostAddress;                    Insertcmd.Parameters.Add("?Username", MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlDbType.VarChar, 255).Value = UserName;                    Insertcmd.Parameters.Add("?PKID", MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlDbType.VarChar, 255).Value = userId;                    Insertcmd.Connection = conn;                    conn.Open();                    Insertcmd.ExecuteNonQuery();                    conn.Close();                }                else                {                    MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlCommand Updatecmd = new MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlCommand(                        "UPDATE tracker SET IpAddress = ?IpAddress, IsOnline = '1' WHERE UserName = ?Username AND PKID = ?PKID");                    Updatecmd.Parameters.Add("?IpAddress", MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlDbType.VarChar, 15).Value = Request.UserHostAddress;                    Updatecmd.Parameters.Add("?Username", MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlDbType.VarChar, 255).Value = UserName;                    Updatecmd.Parameters.Add("?PKID", MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlDbType.VarChar, 255).Value = userId;                    Updatecmd.Connection = conn;                    conn.Open();                    Updatecmd.ExecuteNonQuery();                    conn.Close();                }            }        }    } Can anyone advise me on what I should be doing (even if its just a "you should be using this command) if this is not correct? In fact any pointers would be nice !Thanks everyone!

SQL Server 2012 :: Return Values With Multiple Entries Only

May 9, 2014

Very basically, I need to return a result set based on another value and only if there are multiples of that other value.

Example. select * from mytable

Returns (--column separater)

John---1---1
John---1---1
John---2---2
John---3---3
John---3---3
John---4---4

So I want a query that would return only

John---1---1
John---1---1
John---3---3
John---3---3

The query cannot be something as simple as this:

Select * from mytable where John=1 or John=3

I have to many possible results to plan like that. I am thinking some kind of aggregate with a group.

SQL Server 2012 :: When Invoice Contains Multiple Values Set Value Equal To A Value

May 18, 2015

All I have a table full of invoices and in that table there is a field named HCC. An invoice can contain multiple HCC's. I also have a table named hierarchical codes (below is an example)

(COL1)HCC...........(COL2)If any of the HCCs in this column exist on an invoice along with the HCC in column 1 then use HCC listed in column one
1
2
3.......................4
4
6
8.......................9 ,10 ,11 ,12 ,13

[code]...

I want to return invoice 1 with HCC set to 34 since the hierarchy for when any of these HCCs (35 ,36 ,37 ,38) exist on an invoice along with 34 is 34.

create table #task(TaskId bigint unique, Name varchar(2000))
insert into #task values(1, 'Text Text Text Text Text Text Text <<Name>> Text Text Text <<Salary>>')
insert into #task values(2, 'Text Text Text <<Name>> Text Text Text Text <<Company>> Text Text Text <<Salary>> Text Text Text')

[Code] ....

Now I need to create an inline function who resolve the task name with appropriate values and return me the resolved task name

select * from fn_TaskResolver(1, 'Text Text Text Text Text Text Text <<Name>> Text Text Text <<Salary>>')

I try this function but its return multiple rows as i just want to return one row. as I have big data set so i don't want to use scaler or Multi Line function.

create function fn_TaskResolver(@TaskId bigint, @name varchar(2000)
Return table

Dec 6, 2013

I know how to check for a sinle vlaue but how do I chekc to see if multiple values exist. I need to check for certain email addresses from a list that I have.

Let us say I ahve 3 email addresses, I want to check for all of them in a table and for eevery email address that is present I want to print something like "You email address is XXX" and if one of those 3 is not found my results should look like

"You email address is XXX"
YYYYY not found
"You email address is ZZZZ"

I'm attaching some TSQL that I tried on [AdventureWorks2012].[Person].[EmailAddress]

/****** Select ALL if where an email address is present in the list ******/
SELECT EmailAddressID,EmailAddress
FROM [AdventureWorks2012].[Person].[EmailAddress]
WHERE EmailAddress IN
(
'ken0@adventure-works.com', --1
'terri0@adventure-works.com', --2

[Code] ....

IF EXISTS
(
SELECT EmailAddress FROM [AdventureWorks2012].[Person].[EmailAddress]
WHERE EmailAddress IN ('25rob0@adventure-works.com')
)
BEGIN
SELECT 'Email address is presnt'

[Code] ....

When I check multiples using EXISTS it works as per its design and says YES even if a single item is present.

SQL Server 2012 :: Row Counts Based On Distinct Values From Multiple Tables

Jan 15, 2015

I am trying to create a query that outputs the following data from multiple tables. Here is an example of the raw data right now

Date | MachineNumber | TestName
---------------------------------------
1/1/2015 | 500 | Something
1/1/2015 | 500 | Something
1/1/2015 | 500 | Something
1/1/2015 | 500 | Something
1/1/2015 | 510 | NewTest
1/1/2015 | 510 | NewTest
1/1/2015 | 510 | NewTest
1/1/2015 | 620 | Test#1

Here is the desired counted output, I would like to pull distinct Date, MachineNumber, TestName and then count how many times they occur in the raw data form.I do need to perform a case on the date because right now its in a datetime format and I only need the date.

Date | MachineNumber | TestName | TestOccuranceCount
-----------------------------------------------------------------
1/1/2015 | 500 | Something | 4
1/1/2015 | 510 | NewTest | 3
1/1/2015 | 620 | Test#555 | 1

I am pulling three columns with the same names from 8 different tables. What I need to display the date, machine & test name and count how many times a test was run on a machine for that date. I have a feeling this can be handled by SSAS but haven't built an analysis cube yet because I am unfamiliar with how they work. I was wondering if this is possible in a simple query. I tried to set something up in a #Temp table. Problem is the query takes forever to run because I am dealing with 1.7 Million rows. Doing an insert into #temp select columnA, columnB, columnC from 8 different tables takes a bit.

SQL Server 2012 :: Update Table Based On Existing Values In Multiple Rows?

Oct 1, 2015

The objective is to identify orders where an order fee has been applied incorrectly. I have multiple orders per customer, my table contains an orderID and a customerID. Currently if the customer places additional orders before the previous orders have been closed/cancelled, then additional fees are being applied.

Let's say I'm comparing order #1 to order #2. I need to identify these rows where the following is true:-

The CustID is the same.

Order #2 has a more recent order date.

Order #2 has a FeeDate Before the CancelledDate of Order #1 (or Order #1 has no cancellation date).

So in the table the orderID:2835692 of CustID: 24643 has a valid order fee. But all the subsequently placed orders have fees which were applied before the first order was cancelled and so I want to update the FeeInvalid column with a 'Y'. The first fee will always be valid.

I think I understand why the code I am trying doesn't achieve the result I want but I can't figure out how to write it correctly. Below is one example of code I've tried and also code to create the table and insert some test data.

update t1
SET FeeInvalid = 'Y'
FROM MockData t1 Join MockData t2 on t1.CustID = t2.CustID
WHERE t1.CustID = t2.CustID
AND t2.OrderDate > t1.OrderDate
AND t2.FeeDate > t1.CancelledDate

Putting System Variables In A Send Mail Task

Jul 13, 2006

KB Article 906547 suggest that it's possible to have system variables in the Subject & Body of a Send Email Task. Such as this:

"Package>>> " + @[System::PackageName] +" was executed at>>> " + (DT_WSTR, 40) @[System::StartTime] + " by user>>> " + @[System::UserName] + " on Machine>>> " + @[System::MachineName]

Or this in an OnError event handler:

"Error in the task: " + @[System::SourceName] + "with the ID: " + @[System::SourceID] + " has failed at: " + (DT_WSTR, 20) @[System::ContainerStartTime] + "."

But when I do this I just get this exact text, no variables.

I'm obviously missing something basic but I can't find it. Can anyone offer a suggestion please?

I need to list customers in a table that represents sales over the years.

I have tables:

Orders -> id | idCustomer | date | ...
Products -> id | idOrder | unitprice | quantity | ...

I am using this SQL but it only gets one year:

SELECT customers.name , SUM(unitprice*qt) AS total
FROM Products
INNER JOIN Orders ON Orders.id = Products.idOrder
INNER JOIN Customers ON Customers.id = Orders.idCustomer
WHERE year(date)=2014
GROUP BY customers.name
ORDER BY 2 DESC

I need something like this:

customer | total sales 204 | total sales | 2015 | total sales (2014 + 2015)
--------
customer A | 1000$ | 2000$ | 3000$
customer B | 100$ | 100$ | 200$

Pivot Transform Not Putting All Values On Same Row

Feb 28, 2007

I have a pivot transform that it believe is configured correctly but is not distributing the values accross the columns on the same row. for example.

input:

id seqno codevalue

1 A red

1 B red

2 C blue

2 A green

2 B violet

3 A green

desired output:

id Seq_A Seq_B Seq_C

1 red red null

2 green violet blue

3 green null null

what I am getting:

id Seq_A Seq_B Seq_C

1 red null null

1 null red null

2 green null null

2 null violet null

2 null null blue

3 green null null

I do have the pivot usage for the id column set to 1. I have the pivot usage for seqno column set to 2 and codevalue column set to 3. I have the source column for each of the output columns set to the lineageID of the apprpriate input columns. I have the pivotKey values set for each of the destination columns. A for column Seq_A, B for column Seq_B, C for column Seq_C. All four columns have sortkey positions set; 1 for id, 2 for Seq_A, 3 for Seq_B and 4 for column SEQ_C.

It seems like the id column's pivot usage is not set to 1 like it should but when I check it is 1.

I also have several other pivot transforms in the same data flow and they are working as expected.

I have a suspicion that there is some hidden meta data that is messed up that is over-ridding my settings (just my guess) I have deleted this transform and re-done it several times, checking each configuration value, but still getting the same result.

Need some help or thoughts on making this work.

Thanks

Putting Commas Between Select Statement Values

Jan 12, 2005

Hello,

This may be a strange request, but I am going to ask about it anyways.

Say for example if I have a table named TEST and in the table there is a column named NUMBERS, such that it is like this:

NUMBERS
1
2
3
4

How could I use a select statement in a way that a comma would seperate every return value, such that if I go 'Select NUMBERS from TEST' I would get:

1,2,3,4

Instead of:

1
2
3
4

Any ideas?

Thanks

How To Design A Package With Variables So That I Can Run It By Dos Command Assigning Values To Variables?

Hi,

I would like to design a SSIS package, which have couple of variables. It loads a xls file specified in a variable [varExcelFileFullPath] .

I will run it by commands: exec xp_cmdshell 'dtexec /SQL ....' (pls see an example below).

It seems it does not get the values passed in for those variables. I deployed the package to a sql server.

are there any grammar errors here? I copied it from dtexecui. It worked inside Dtexecui not in dos command.

exec xp_cmdshell 'dtexec /SQL "LoadExcelDB" /SERVER test /USER *** /PASSWORD ****

/MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING EW

/LOGGER "{6AA833A1-E4B2-4431-831B-DE695049DC61}";"Test.SuperBowl"

/Set Package.Variables[User::varExcelFileName].Properties[Value];"TestAdHocLayer"

/Set Package.Variables[User::varExcelWorkbookName].Value;"Sheet1$"

/Set Package.Variables[User::varExcelFileFullPath].Value;"D: estshareTestAdHocLayer.xls"

/Set Package.Variables[User::varDestinationTableName].Value;"FeaturesTmp"

/Set Package.Variables[User::varPreSQLAction].Value;"delete from FeaturesTmp"

SQL Server 2012 :: Replace All Values In String With Values From Look Up Table

Mar 19, 2014

I have a table that lists math Calculations with "User Friendly Names" that look like the following:

([Sales Units]*[AUR])
([Comp Sales Units]*[Comp AUR])

I need to replace all the "User Friendly Names" with "System Names" in the calculations, i.e., I need "Sales Units" to be replaced with "cSalesUnits", "AUR" replaced with "cAUR", "Comp Sales Units" with "cCompSalesUnits", and "Comp AUR" with "cCompAUR". (It isn't always as easy as removing spaces and added 'c' to the beginning of the string...)

The new formulas need to look like the following:

([cSalesUnits]*[cAUR])
([cCompSalesUnits]*[cCompAUR])

I have created a CTE of all the "Look-up" values, and have tried all kinds of joins, and other functions to achieve this, but so far nothing has quite worked.

How can I accomplish this?

Here is some SQL for set up. There are over 500 formulas that need updating with over 400 different "look up" possibilities, so hard coding something isn't really an option.

UserFriendlyName VARCHAR(128)

Retrieving Multiple Values From One Field In SQL Server For Use In Multiple Columsn In Reports

Mar 30, 2007

I am trying to create a report using Reporting Services.

My problem right now is that the way the table is constructed, I am trying to pull 3 seperate values i.e. One is the number of Hours, One is the type of work, and the 3rd is the Grade, out of one column and place them in 3 seperate columns in the report.

I can currently get one value but how to get the information I need to be able to use in my reports.

So far what I've been working with SQL Reporting Services 2005 I love it and have made several reports, but this one has got me stumped.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I might not have made my problem quite clear enough. My table has one column labeled value. The value in that table is linked through an ID field to another table where the ID's are broken down to one ID =Number of Hours, One ID = Grade and One ID= type of work.

What I'm trying to do is when using these ID's and seperate the value related to those ID's into 3 seperate columns in a query for using in Reporting Services to create the report

As you can see, I'm attempting to change the name of the same column 3 times to reflect the correct information and then link them all to the person, where one person might have several entries in the other fields.

As you can see I can change the names individually in queries and pull the information seperately, it's when roll them altogether is where I'm running into my problem

Thanks for the suggestions that were made, I apoligize for not making the problem clearer.

Here is a copy of what I'm attempting to accomplish. I didn't have it with me last night when posting.

--Pulls the Service Opportunity

SELECT cs.value AS "Service Opportunity"

FROM Cstudent cs

INNER JOIN cattribute ca ON ca.attributeid = cs.attributeid

WHERE ca.name = 'Service Opportunity'

--Pulls the Number of Hours

Integration Services :: Pass Multiple Parameter Values To SSIS Package In 2012 Through Stored Procedure?

Jul 9, 2015

we can  assign one parameter value for each excecution of  [SSISDB].[catalog].[set_object_parameter_value] by calling this catalog procedure..

Example: If I have 5 parameters in SSIS package ,to assign a value to those 5 parameters at run time should I call this [SSISDB].[catalog].[set_object_parameter_value] procedure 5 times ? or is there a way we can pass all the 5 parameters at 1 time .

1. Wondering if there is a way to pass multiple parameters in a single execution (for instance to pass XML string values ??)
2.What are the options to pass multiple parameter values to ssis package through stored procedure.?

SQL Server 2012 :: Compare Two XML Variables?

Mar 19, 2015

I'm rewriting a huge FOR XML EXPLICIT procedure to use FOR XML PATH, and need to compare previous output to the refactored one, so i didn't mess up XML structure.

The thing is, i'm not sure that SQL Server will always generate exactly same xml **string**, so i'd rather not compare by:

WHERE CAST(@xml_old AS NVARCHAR(MAX)) = CAST(@xml_new AS NVARCHAR(MAX))

nor do i want to manually validate every node, since the generated xml-structure is quite complex.

compare xmls by their "semantic value" ?

SQL Server 2012 :: Variables That Are Not Null Put In TVP?

Sep 17, 2015

I have three variables

DECLARE @QuantityID uniqueidentifier,
@LengthID uniqueidentifier,
@CostID uniqueidentifier

They are sent to the sproc as null. Since they could be null I need to exclude them from posting to a temp table

Example

DECLARE @QuantityID uniqueidentifier,
@LengthID uniqueidentifier,
@CostID uniqueidentifier
SET @CostID = NEWID()
SELECT @QuantityID as ID UNION ALL
SELECT @LengthID UNION ALL
SELECT @CostID

Two values are null. I want those excluded from this table

Here is the example of what I am trying to do:

DECLARE @QuantityID uniqueidentifier,
@LengthID uniqueidentifier,
@CostID uniqueidentifier
DECLARE @Temp as Table (id uniqueidentifier NOT NULL Primary key)
SET @CostID = NEWID()
INSERT INTO @Temp
SELECT @QuantityID as ID UNION ALL
SELECT @LengthID UNION ALL
SELECT @CostID

How do I insert into @Temp only non null values?

SQL Server 2012 :: How To Do OPENROWSET Query Within Cursor Using Variables

Oct 22, 2015

I am writing a custom query to determine if a legacy table exists or not. From My CMS Server I already have all the instances I have to query and I store the name of the instance in the @Instance variable. I cannot get those stubborn ticks to work right in my query. Below I am using the IF EXISTS statement to search the metadata for the legacy table.

DECLARE @Found tinyint
DECLARE @Instance varchar(100)
set @Instance = 'The Instance'
IF (EXISTS (SELECT a.*
FROM OPENROWSET('SQLNCLI', 'Server=' + @Instance + ';UID=DBAReader;PWD=DBAReader;','SELECT * FROM [DBA].INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES WHERE TABLE_NAME = ''TheTable''') AS a))
SET @Found = 1
ELSE
SET @Found = 0

PRINT @Found

SQL Server 2012 :: Concatenate Multiple Rows In Multiple Columns

Aug 5, 2014

I concatenate multiple rows from one table in multiple columns like this:

--Create Table
CREATE TABLE [Person].[Person_1](
[BusinessEntityID] [int] NOT NULL,
[PersonType] [nchar](2) NOT NULL,
[FirstName] [varchar](100) NOT NULL,
CONSTRAINT [PK_Person_BusinessEntityID_1] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED

[Code] ....

This works very well, but I want to concatenate more rows with different [PersonType]-Values in different columns and I don't like the overhead, of using the same table in every subquery ([Person_1]). Is there a more elegant way to do this, without using a temp table or something else?
