SQL Server 2012 :: Statement To Group Rows As Multiple Child Under Single Parent?
Sep 18, 2014
I've 2 tables QuestionAnswers and ConditionalQuestions and fetching data from them using CTE join and I'm seeing repetitive rows (not duplicate) like, If you have multiple answers for 1 question, the output is like
where london
where paris
where toronto
why us
why japan
why indonesia
I want to eliminate the repetitive question and group them as parent child items.
with cte as (
select cq.ConditionalQuestionID from ConditionalQuestions cq
inner join QuestionAnswers qa on cq.QuestionID=qa.QuestionID where cq.QuestionID=5 and qa.IsConditional='Y')
select distinct q.Question, a.Answer from QuestionAnswers qa
inner join Answers a on a.AnswerID = qa.AnswerID
inner join Questions q on q.QuestionID = qa.QuestionID
inner join cte c on c.ConditionalQuestionID = qa.QuestionID;
Request ID Parent ID Account Name Addresss 1452 1254789 Wendy's Atlanta Georgia 1453 1254789 Wendy's Norcross Georgia 1456 1254789 Waffle House Atlanta Georgia
I have created a trigger that is set off every time a new item has been added to TableA.The trigger then inserts 4 rows into TableB that contains two columns (item, task type).
Each row will have the same item, but with a different task type.ie.
I am in the process of creating a Report, and in this, i need ONLY the row groups (Parents and Child).I have a Parent group field called "Dept", and its corresponding field is MacID.I cannot create a child group or Column group (because that's not what i want).I am then inserting rows below MacID, and then i toggle the other rows to MacID and MacID to Dept.
I have resulting rows from a query similar to the following:
The data is coming from a single table that contains only one coverage code column and one coverage code date, but the end user wants the two coverage code types and dates combined into a single row. So the SELECT looks something like this:
SELECT [Employee ID] = emp.employee_id, [Coverage Code 1] = enr.coverage_code, [Coverage Date 1] = enr.coverage_date, [Coverage Code 2] = case when enr.product_type = 'Accident.Accident' then enr.coverage_code else NULL end,
[Code] ....
I basically want to merge the like Employee ID's together into a single row like the following:
I know I have done this before and it is probably pretty simple.
The following works in query if I specify one student (PlanDetailUID) when running query. If I try to specify multiple students (PlanDetailUID) when running query, I get variable cannot take multiple entries. I assume I would need to replace (variables) in PART 2 with (case statements / using select everywhere) to get around the issue or is there a better way ?
how we can replace the multiple values in a single select statement? I have to build the output based on values stored in a table. Please see below the sample input and expected output.
i have 2 Tables. i am saying emails in table1 and also if there is any attachments there i saved them also in the same table but with differet ID, and in another table i am saving the relationship of both documents.
Now i have defined another table in which i want to store a single New ID generated by the new Table to email document and it's attachment document..
what i am now doing i just create a SP, and it's take the first record from the main table and check if there is attachments , if no then it's just assign a new ID and save the document id into newly created table, but if there is attachement then it's go to relationship table and returen me the child id on behalf of parent ID and then in the newly created table it save the child docment id with the same id as the parent id has already been saved.
i m doing like this
SELECT all the emails those has attachments..
Insert Into newlyCreated Table (ID,doc)values(1,1)
then SELECT doc from Relationship table where Maintable doc=@doc
Insert into newlycreated tAble(ID,doc)values(1,2)
and so on .. and if i have more then one attachement then i have to use the loop..
what i m looking , is there any short way to do this all, bcoz it's taks ages to do.. is there any single line query that i can use to get the child doc id rather then going into loops ..
We have equipment table which stores Equipment_ID,Code,Parent_Id etc..for each Equipment_ID there is a Parent_Id. The PK is Equipment_ID Now i want to select the Code for the Parent_Id which also sits in the same table. All the Parent_Id's also are Equipment_ID's.
I have a table called "College". In a table, I have to create a structure for multilevel parent-child relationship
For Example,
1) State has number of colleges, Number of colleges has Number of dept. , Number of dept. has no. of subjects, no. of subject has number of chapters and the hierarchy goes on.
Expected Output is, College 1 Dept 1 subject 1 subject 2 subject 3 Dept 2 Dept 3
[Code] ....
I tried in so many ways, I do not know how to query in single table.
I want to retrive the output in a single SQL query.
I had two columns in a table; I used some values of column1 in column2. I want to identify all the column1 vlaues in Left Hand side and column2 values in Right Hand side, with a single query.
example:
MasterTable
ParentRow ChildRow --------- -------- A B C D E F G C H E M G
Output required:
ParentRow ChildRow --------- -------- A B C D E F G D (C mapped tfrom D) H F M D (G mapped from C, and C mapped from D)
To get the above output, I written query using WHILE...[BREAK|CONTINUE] concept until I get @@rowcount become zero.
I am looking for better performace and to get the output in a single query, instead of multiple passes.
Can any one suggest good tools and articles on performance tuning techniques?
Given the sample data and query below, I would like to know if it is possible to have the outcome be a single row, with the ChildTypeId, c.StartDate, c.EndDate being contained in the parent row. So, the outcome I'm hoping for based on the data below for ParentId = 1 would be:
1 2015-01-01 2015-12-31 AA 2015-01-01 2015-03-31 BB 2016-01-01 2016-03-31 CC 2017-01-01 2017-03-31 DD 2017-01-01 2017-03-31
declare @parent table (Id int not null primary key, StartDate date, EndDate date) declare @child table (Id int not null primary key, ParentId int not null, ChildTypeId char(2) not null, StartDate date, EndDate date) insert @parent select 1, '1/1/2015', '12/31/2015' insert @child select 1, 1, 'AA', '1/1/2015', '3/31/2015'
Include children and exclude children in a single hierarchy in parent child dimension in mdx
*12-parent **20-parent - 9-parent --250-child1 --210-child2 --240-child3 aggregation of 12-parent only aggregation of 20-parent only aggregation of 9 with children
I need to read a file and write parent/child relationship rows. I cannot seem to fugure out how I can generate keys that I an use for the relationship.
I looked at using a variable, but have no joy - I cannot instantiate the variable and it errors - notsure wy.
I also looked to see if I can write to a DB table that maintains key id, but not sure how to do that.
I alo thought of setting up the parent table key to be auto-increment,but canot see how I can read this so that I can us it in the child row inserts.
My Question: Does anyone know of a decent way (i.e. I do not want to loop to insert each row and check the SCOPE_IDENTITY() field or anything like that) to copy parent/child rows to their same respective table besides using the method I have listed below (my manager does not really like the idea of the "PreviousID" field)? More details are listed below.
My Table Situation: I have a parent table and a child table. Both tables have an identity column as the primary key. The relationship between the tables is established using the parent table's primary key to the column in the child table that stores the relationship. The identity column in both tables is the only column that is unique in the tables.
Sample Data (made up and simplified for visualization purposes): ParentTable - "Items" ID ItemCategory Price 1,T-Shirt,$20 2,Blue Jeans,$50 3,T-Shirt,$40
My Need: I need to make a copy of the records (keeping the parent/child relationship intact) to the same table as the source records. For example, in my data example above, I may need to make a copy of all the "T-Shirt" items and their child records. As the parent records are copied, they will be assigned new keys since the primary key is an identity. Obviously, this new key needs to be used when creating the child records, but I need to somehow associate this new key to the new child records.
Possible Solution: I know this can be achieved by adding another column to the parent table to store the "PreviousID" (INT NULL). Using this new field, when I want to copy the "T-Shirt" items, I would insert the new records and store the ID of source records (i.e. the identity value of the row that was copioed would be stored in this "PreviousID" field). Once the parent record has been copied, I could then insert the child records, and I could join on the "PreviousID" field to get to the new ID to use for inserting the copies of the child records.
I am trying to create a SSRS report that needs to show average for both parent and child rows. In the example below i need to show an average of ErrorRecAge column for Company, then for cic_Group and one grand total/avg. How can this be done from single query (as below) and using SSRS built in functions/codes? I am also curious to know if this can be done from TSQL directly (ex. something similar to running sum/total). I appreciate the help.
Select
CustomerCorrection.Id As ParentId,
cc_company As cc_company2,
ccError.Id As ErrorId,
COALESCE(cic_Group,'Other Errors') As cic_Group,
COALESCE(cic_Code,'Unknown') As ErrorCode,COALESCE(cic_Description,'Unknown') As ErrorDescription,
DateDiff(hh,cc_entrydt,getdate())/24.00 AS ErrorRecAge
I have a parent package "A", I also have 4 child packages "B","B1","B2",B3" In BIDS, I created a file connection in the package "A" to connect to the child packages. So whenever I want to run B1 or B2, I change the path in the file connection to point to B1 or B2 and so on. Since the developement environment is File system this works perfectly fine.
But in the Test / Production environment all packages are stored in the Sql server. How can I paramaterize the child package connection so that I can use configuration / variables to select which child package to execute.
Starting with "How to: Use Values of Parent Variables in Child Packages" in the SQL Server 2005 Books Online (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345179.aspx), it seems I need to create a separate package configuration in the child package (of type parent package variable) for each variable I want to pass from the parent to the child. Is that really so? The XML configuration file type allows me to specify any number of variables; how do I do that with the parent package variable?
For that matther, why doesn't the Execute Package Task simply allow me to specify the values of child variables (or other properties) directly? It seems SSIS has made something as trivial as a series of function calls completely opaque:
I'm playing with CTE and just want to expand my skills and ask how you would build this tree structure to fill that [Tree] column for table like in sample below:
/* CREATE TABLE #T1 (child_id INT, parent_id INT, tree VARCHAR(MAX))
The query repeats the Header row value for all children associated with the header.I need the output of the query in XML format such that..For every Header element in the XML, all its children should come under that header element//I am using -
SELECT Cols FROM Table Names FOR XML PATH ('Header'), root('root') , ELEMENTS XSINIL
This still repeats the header for each detail (in the XML) , but I need all children for a header under it.I basically want my output in this format -
I am working on SQL server 2005 Reports. I have one report, one dataset is assigned to it, and one table which displays it. Now I come accros requirement that, the column value in the filter condition for the table is present in one textbox.
I can not use textbox i.e. reportItems in filter condition. Can someone suggest me how to use textbox value in filters?
I want to display parent/child records on report. I am not getting the proper solution.
The data is like this:
Sequence ItemCode IsParent
1 XYZ 0 'do not have child record
2 PQR 1 'have child records with sequence no 3
3 ASD 0
3 AFDGE 0
3 VDC 0
4 ASR 1 'have child records with sequence no 5 5 ASR 0
If IsParent = 1, that record has child records with sequence = parent sequenece + 1
I think u can understand the data I need to bind, and it is like:
XYZ
+ PQR
ASD
AFDGE
VDC
ASR
On + click we can do show/hide of child records.
I m not getting how to achive this in SQL server report. Can u give some hint?
I have set up an FTP connection that tests successfully. I can log on to the FTP site with the same credentials and see my root folder, and within that, two more folders. In my FTP task, I want to receive files to my local machine. The problem is that the only remote path available is not at the root level, and the only thing I can see are files from one of the child folders, but not the child folder I want.
Is it possible in the remote path to change folders? The remote path just shows a "/", which I thought would be the root level, but it is somehow linked to a child folder.I've tried various combinations to get to the folder I want, /root folder/child folder, but that gives the error that the folder does not exist.
If I open the FTP Task Editor, click on File Transfer, and click the ellipses for the Remote Path, the Browse For File box opens, with a "/" in the Location section, and a list of files in the child folder that I do not want to be in. If I click the "Up Directory" button, I get the message "Already at top level directory".
how I can get the files from one particular folder on the FTP site?
I have a master table and i need to import the rows into the parent and child table.
Master table name is Flatfile_Inventory Parent Table name is INVENTORY Child Tables name are INVENTORY_AMOUNT,INVENTORY_DETAILS,INVENTORY_VEHICLE, Error details will be goes to LOG_INVENTORY_ERROR
I have 4 duplicate rows in the Flatfile_Inventory which i have already inserted in the Parent and child table.
Again when i run the query using stored procedure, its tells that all the 4 rows are duplicate and will move to the Log_Inventory_Error.
I need is if i have the duplicate rows in the flatfile_Inventory when i start inserting into the parent and child table the already inserted row have the unique ID i must identify it and delete that row in the both parent and chlid table. And latest row must get inserted into the Parent and child table from Flatfile_Inventory.
I am working on a project where I have a page that will have a parent record (Product) and then 1 or more children (options available for the product, user enters text to define) displayed in a table/gridview. There is a relationship defined in the database between the product and options table). My question is how can I allow the user to add the product info and then within the same page also add the options and only then save it all? The options will added to a table. Thanks for any help
I have an Parent table (Parentid, LastName, FirstName) and Kids table (Parentid, KidName, Age, Grade, Gender, KidTypeID) , each parent will have multiple kids, I need the result as below:
I have two tables that are related by keys. For instance,Table employee {last_name char(40) not null,first_name char(40) not null,department_name char(40) not null, age int not null,...}Employee table has a primary key (combination of last_name and first_name).Table address {last_name char(40) not null,first_name char(40) not null, street char(200) not null, city char(100) not null,...}Address table has a primary key (combination of last_name, first_name andstreet in which (last_name, first_name) reference (last_name, first_name) inemployee table. Now I want to delete some rows in Address table based on department_name inEmployee table. What is sql for this delete?I appreciate your help. Please ignore table design and I just use it for myproblem illustration.Jim
How to combine multiple rows to single rows for the below sql query.
