Have Trace Flags Changed In SQL Server 7?

Dec 14, 1998

Have Trace Flags changed in SQL Server 7?
I need to use T204 because of getting error:

'ORDER BY items must appear in the select list if SELECT DISTINCT IS USED'
when I try to compile stor proc.

I entered T204 as startup parameter and restarted server
but doesn't seem to work.

Any experience with that?
Thanks

Trace Flags Compatibility In SQL Server 2005

Sep 11, 2007

We have the following trace flags present in startup in SQL server 2000:

809
1204
3605
3913

Need to understand if these should be required in SQL Server 2005 + SP2 version. I have run the upgrade advisor tool which indcates that the behaviour of some flags has changed and some other TFs are no longer applicable. Hence, I want to know about the above mentioned TFs.

Chetan

DB Engine :: Trace Flags 1117 And 1118 No More Enabled After Server Got Rebooted

Dec 1, 2015

During a newly set up on one of our SQL server 2012:

We had enable the trace flags 1117 and 1118 as a good practice using DBCC TRACEON(1117,-1) and similar for 1118.

We have been base lining the server and it came to notice that trace flags are no more enabled.

Property                            Value                                                           CaptureDate
DBCC_TRACESTATUS  TF 1117: Status = 1, Global = 1, Session = 0     2015-10-20 00:00:00
DBCC_TRACESTATUS        TF 1118: Status = 1, Global = 1, Session = 0         2015-10-20 00:00:00

After reboot:
Property                               Value                                                                  CaptureDate
DBCC_TRACESTATUS          No trace flags enabled                         2015-10-21 00:00:02.340

What can be the reason? What can be done to turn them on permanently, if its actually a good bet in enabling so.

Trace Flags

May 1, 2001

Hi ,
I want to trace the deadlock information. I am enabling trace flags 1204 ,1205. Is there any difference in setting these trace flags by using DBCC
TRACEON and by setting them at command prompt by statrting the SQL server with SQLSERVR command. Actually i don't want to bring the server down. I want the information to be logged to Error log. Any help is greatly appreciated.

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Required Permissions To Enable Mirroring Session

Oct 29, 2015

I have a Windows NT group that is used to delegate certain database responsibilities to other members of staff and I am trying to grant permissions for the members of the group to be be able to establish database mirroring sessions, as in run the following:

ALTER DATABASE <database>
SET PARTNER = 'tcp://principal_server.domain.com:port';

Although the group has db_owner role membership to the user database which grants the ALTER permission on the database, the following is being generated in the error log when they get to this step on the intended Mirror instance after restoring the database correctly in preperation:

SqlDumpExceptionHandler: Process 59 generated fatal exception c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. SQL Server is terminating this process.
* *******************************************************************************
*
* BEGIN STACK DUMP:
* 10/29/15 11:16:15 spid 59
*
*
* Exception Address = 00007FF9A6AF838C Module(sqlmin+000000000003838C)
* Exception Code = c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION
* Access Violation occurred reading address 00000000000000D8
* Input Buffer 210 bytes -
* alter database <redacted> set partner = '<redacted>';

As you can see, the statement is denied to the user. There are no issues with the database as I am able to run the same query successfully using my own sysadmin account after the failed attempt. What other minimum permissions the group might need to successfully enable them to setup a mirroring session?

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Gathering Results From Extended Events Trace

Jun 16, 2015

I need to find any stored procedures that have not been used over a certain time period.

I have set up an extended events session to gather sp_statement_starting and _completed.

The trace returns the object_id's of many stored procedures. I then query the sys.procedures and plug in the object_id to return the stored proc name.

Do I have to repeat this process for every different object_id or is there a way I can query the trace results, using the object_id as my search criteria as one query ?

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Selected Columns On View

Mar 18, 2015

I have created row level security on two views and adding these two views to particular role.Today I have got an requirement that, middle level managers shouldn't see the all the columns. So I have created another role for Middle level managers and assign securables as those two views with selected columns by grant, and map all the middle level managers to this role. I thought my job is done. But these managers uses this view on SSAS(tabular model) and Excel, In those applications they are not able to load the data.

Later I come to know we can't use -- select * from ViewA ( in viewA I have restristced few columns in the role level) Work around is creating another view and assigning to the role. But how can we achieve column level security to implement this in either SSAS/SSRS/EXCEL?

If I have a query like -

But if I execute the views separately, I get good performance.

Why Can't I Enable Editing On A Gridview That Gets It's Data From A View Through An SqlDataSource?

Nov 22, 2007

Hi,
I think the title explains it all really. I cannot configure the SqlDataSource to add Insert, Update and Delete statements - not through the wizard anyway.
The view combines two tables, each containing 3 columns. I have tried using different combinations of columns, and ended up selecting all of them (making sure the foreign key column of the first table was given a different alias to the primary key column of the second table) but I still cannot enable editing.
Cheers,
Patrick

Every time I try to enable a schedule the page submits and it seems like everything worked (no errors). However, when I go back to the schedule page for the report the Enable checkbox is unchecked. There are other Power View reports that are scheduled and running just fine. The only error I can track down in the SharePoint logs is this:

Failed to remove workbook tracking handle from collection for workbook

I've tried making a copy of the file and re-uploading with a different name but nothing changes. The user would really rather not recreate the report from scratch.

SQL Server 2014 :: Indexed View Not Being Used For Partitioned Clustered Column-store Index?

Oct 9, 2015

I am trying to use an indexed view to allow for aggregations to be generated more quickly in my test data warehouse. The Fact Table I am creating the indexed view on is a partitioned clustered columnstore index.

I have created a view with the following code:

ALTER view dbo.FactView
with schemabinding
as
select local_date_key, meter_key, unit_key, read_type_key, sum(isnull(read_value,0)) as [s_read_value], sum(isnull(cost,0)) as [s_cost]
, sum(isnull(easy_target_value,0)) as [s_easy_target_value], sum(isnull(hard_target_value,0)) as [s_hard_target_value]
, sum(isnull(read_value,0)) as [a_read_value], sum(isnull(temperature,0)) as [a_temp], sum(isnull(co2,0)) as [s_co2]
, sum(isnull(easy_target_co2,0)) as [s_easy_target_co2]
, sum(isnull(hard_target_co2,0)) as [s_hard_target_co2], sum(isnull(temp1,0)) as [a_temp1], sum(isnull(temp2,0)) as [a_temp2]
, sum(isnull(volume,0)) as [s_volume], count_big(*) as [freq]
from dbo.FactConsumptionPart
group by local_date_key, read_type_key, meter_key, unit_key

I then created an index on the view as follows:

create unique clustered index IDX_FV on factview (local_date_key, read_type_key, meter_key, unit_key)

I then followed this up by running some large calculations that required use of the aggregation functionality on the main fact table, grouping by the clustered index columns and only returning averages and sums that are available in the view, but it still uses the underlying table to perform the aggregations, rather than the view I have created. Running an equivalent query on the view, then it takes 75% less time to query the indexed view directly, to using the fact table. I think the expected behaviour was that in SQL Server Enterprise or Developer edition (I am using developer edition), then the fact table should have used the indexed view. what I might be missing, for the query not to be using the indexed view?

SQL Server 2014 :: Trigger On A View If Any Insert / Update Occurs On Base Table Level

I have a situation where I have Table A, Table B.

View C is created by joining table A and table B.

I have written a instead of trigger D on view C.

I do not insert/update/delete on the view directly.

For every insert/update in table A /B the values should get insert/update in the view respectively. This insert/update on view should invoke the trigger.

And I am unable to see this trigger work on the view if any insert/update occurs on base table level.

Trigger is working only if any operation is done directly on the view.

SQL Server 2012 :: Nonclustered Indexes On Bit Flags

Mar 24, 2015

I have a scenario where I have 3 columns and all 3 of them are used in the where clauses of simple queries or ones having joins .

TABLE(
Column1 int
FLAG1 bit
FLAG2 bit
)

Sample queries :

Select * from TABLE where FLAG1 =1 and FLAG2 =0
(Any combination of these flags)
Select * from TABLE inner join SOMEOTHERTABLE on
TABLE.Column1 = SOMEOTHERTABLE .Column1
where FLAG1 =1 and FLAG2 =0

( any join and combination of flags)

Questions :

What would be the best nonclustered index strategy :

Column1 as the index key including FLAG1 and FLAG2
or
Column1,FLAG1 and FLAG2 in the index key

Points to note :

The queries are part of an ETL process and are used to track new records vs old records. The Flags switch states within the same job . So if we are creating an index on all 3 columns, the index has to be reorganized more than once based on the flag states. If we keep them in the include list , then its only about updating the leaf data with the latest flag values.

On the other hand, an index on all 3 columns will result in an index Seek alone , where as for the included list , there will be an index seek and a predicate .

Does the predicate cause more overhead than reorganizing the index or is it the opposite ?

SQL Server 2012 :: Adding Flags Depending On Criteria

Feb 12, 2014

I have a data output with many rows. In order to group things with flags, I do this in excel using 2 formulas which *** a flag of 0 or 1 in 2 new columns.

This takes a long long time as I have hundreds of thousands of rows and wondered of I could do it in sql?

Its transact SQL and the formulas I use in excel are:

=IF(SUMPRODUCT(($A$2:$A2=A2)*($B$2:$B2=B2)*($C$2:$C2>=C2-1/24)*($C$2:$C2< C2+1/24))> 1,0,1)
=IF(SUMPRODUCT(($A$2:$A2=A2)*($B$2:$B2=B2))>1,0,1)

How I can do this in sql??

The columns above do not relate to the actual columns I use, just an example.

Are Bit Flags Bad?

Mar 5, 2004

Is the process of using integer data types to represent multiple values via the use of bit flags bad practice? It seems to go against the rules of normalization in a single field can represent multiple values. On the other hand that since these values can be tested for via bitwise operations, that it's not entirely bad.

Any insight would be appreciated.
