SQL Server 2014 :: How To Copy Data Rows From Hosting To Local Server
Mar 11, 2015
I'm a web developer who writes transact-SQL to make my web applications run properly. I'm not real strong in other areas of SQL. Let me explain our set-up and then I'll explain what I want to do:
We have an ecommerce web site and all sales are saved in a SQL Server 2008 R2 database at our hosting company. We also have a local Windows 2012 network that has SQL Server 2014 Express installed.
Here is what I want to do:
I want to copy sales rows from the SQL Server 2008 database at our hosting company and save them in the SQL Server 2014 Express database on our local Windows 2012 server. I'd like to automate this if possible so that it happens each night perhaps. I know there is a way to schedule SQL jobs but I've never actually done this. I also would need to know how to attach to our hosting company DB as well as our local network DB.
I lost my database on my pc as I format my hard drive. Now, how I can get a copy of my ms sql server database from my hosting to work with my local pc? I need to have a local copy so that I can develop my site without internet connection. For your information, I used Hostforlife.eu hosting service. I have searched and tried many methods to do it, but no luck yet. For example, I created a backup on Hostforlife.eu and restore backup file on my pc, but nothing happens. Then I created a new database, and re-created its structure same as the one on Hostforlife, then I used the import wizard to import data from them to my pc. Again, nothing happens.
Hi, I'm developing a website using VWD 2005 Express, which needs a Membership system and a products database. Using the VWD inherent Web Site Administration tool makes the membership set up easy but by default it creates a 'Local' SQL database in a folder named 'Apps_Data' in the VWD project. My question is: considering I will need to upload my web site to a Hosting Service, would it be better to change the default so that the membership systems, and the product database I need, are created in an SQL 'Server' database instead of a 'Local' database? The hosting service I am considering using is having a bit of a problem understanding this question, I hope it makes sense to someone or am I asking a stupid question? Regards Sean.
I'm using SQL Server Management Studio Express and I'm trying to figure out how to copy a table(s) from my local database to my web hosting database. I know how to do it in 2000, but it's completely different now. Is this feature not allowed on SSMSE? If so, then how do I deploy database tables to a web host? Also, how do you add local database(s) to SSMSE? I tried to use 'attach database' in SSMSE and it wouldn't allow me to navigate to My Documents folder where the database resides. Thanks...
I would like to know if is possible copy data from a database located in my hosting to my database located in my pc,but using a store procedure, how can i do that ?.What tool i have to use?
I just recently added 30MB of SQL Server database space on my Share hosting account.
I want to put the SQL Web Data Administrator on the server but it is an MSI file and I cannot figure out how to install it.
Also, I will be testing my .Net pages on my local machine. How do I go about it without accessing the SQL Server on my host? I used MS Access before and I have a copy of both databases on my local machine and on the server. I'm thinking of using MSDE on my machine and I just change the connection string when I upload my code. Is this a good idea or is there a better alternative?
I try to copy database from remote SQL Server(6.5) to our local SQL Server(7.0). I try this way: First, in Enterprice Manager, I try "NEW SQL SERVER REGISTRATION" using "Register SQL Server wizard". The remote server give me the IP, login name and password. then, I try connect option by "login using SQL Server". But I got message say:"specialted server not found, Connection open, create file". some times say:"client server access denied..." some times say:"timeout". What's going on here? So, I can not get going on with "Import data wizard".
Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Any answer would be of great assistance!
Hi and thanks in advance for your help. I have a dilemma and I need some expert help with this. I am trying to make a copy of a remote Database and then replicated the DB and it's contents on my local machine so I can build a test site to run data with. I tried to remot into the server machine but I guess that feature is not allowed by the honest of the remote machine. Since I build on my local machine and would like to be able to test data on my local machine.... I would like to copy the remote DB to my local computer and then I can run my test app on my local server. The version of SQL on the remote machine is SQL Express 2005 and I have SQL 2005 on my machine. Please give me how to accomplish this please.
We currently have a PPTP connection set up for our developers toaccess our development SQL server through a VPN tunnel. When theyneed to copy tables up to the dev SQL from their local machine theysimply do a DTS copy. However, we are now moving to a thin client solution where they willbe working on a terminal server. They will have access to thedevelopment SQL servers and SQL tools such as EM and QA. However, they will not have access to their local SQL server and, therefore, will not be able to directly perform DTS copies. We have exploredseveral possibilities such as exporting tables to a .csv or .mdb fileand then importing them on the development SQL server but this is notideal because things are lost in that process (e.g. primary keys, field names, data types, etc.)My question is this: Is there a way to export and then import SQLtables without losing dependent objects such as primary keys and datatypes in the process? If any of you are working with a similarsituation I would really like to hear how your remote users copyobjects from their remote location to your SQL servers. I am using vb.net in windows form. I have made a module which is connected to sql server 2000.
Now, I want to have a fresh copy of the remote database of SQL Server at my local computer and whenever there is change in remote database(insertions, deletion or updation), my local database copy may gets synchronized(i.e changes get reflected in this local copy).
Can any one help me? If it is possibel by using Vb.net code, it is very well, and if there is some Sql Server wizard that can help me do that, please reply to me.
I am in a situation where I need to get a copy of test database that ison production server running MSSQL 2000 Standard to my local machinerunning MSSQL 2000 personel. I tried to use the copy wizard where itappears I get connected to the source server OK but when I try toindicate the destination server which is my local machine I get errorspoping up about cannot connect to (local) etc.I am NOT a DBA just a programmer trying to get a local test environmentup to be more productive.Lsumnler
I have the Image in FTP Server Folder and i need to insert that image into my local database.
How can i do this I tried with the below Query but i shows the errors as below.
--INSERT INTO AcademyStudents (ImageURL) --SELECT BULKCOLUMN FROM OPENROWSET(BULK'https://iconic-solutions.net/OTA/test/images(1).jpeg',Single_Blob) AS BLOB --Where StudentIdentificationNum = 2 --GO GOt Error ;
Cannot bulk load because the file [URL] could not be opened. Operating system error code 123(The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.).
What is the best approach for a read only copy of a database that is ~ 1TB. The primary database is fed nightly with an ETL process. We are currently trying to duplicate the ETL to read only server but that process is not going well. So we are looking at other options to let SQL make the copy.
The primary database is on a Win12R2 with SQL 12 or 14, a 2 node A/P failover cluster.
The read only copy will be on a Win12R2 with SQL 12 or 14. It is not a requirement to fail over to the read only copy if the primary should go down.
What would best the approach to accomplish the end result?
I have a database in my local system. here every thing is working fine. now i need to upload the database in the hosting server. i dont know how to upload the db. so i sent a msg to my hosting support center , they told "use microsoft enterprise manager software for upload". pls let me guide how to upload through enterprise manager. please. i know the remote database username and password.
Is there a way using a stored procedure in a local database to add a record to a database executing in a cloud environment when both entities reside in different domains?
I've a SQL server 2014 running on one of our server. We're in the process of implementing security steps for our databases. I've encrypted a column in one of the table in the database on the server. The issue is when I restore the backup on my local SQL server and run a query to decrypt the column data it gives me null values. On the other end when I decrypt the column data on the main server it works fine. I found a thread on this forum which states to do the following when restoring the encrypted database on different server.
USE [master]; GO OPEN MASTER KEY DECRYPTION BY PASSWORD = 'StrongPassword'; ALTER MASTER KEY ADD ENCRYPTION BY SERVICE MASTER KEY; GO
select File_Name , CONVERT(nvarchar,DECRYPTBYKEY(File_Name)) from [test].[dbo].[Orders_Customer]
Copy mssqlsystemresource.mdf of a recently upgraded server and paste to an old server have same effect of upgrading via .exe installation?
My idea is to save time and administrative efforts in upgrades (Service Packs and/or Cumulative Updates) using this method.
According to BOL:
The Resource database makes upgrading to a new version of SQL Server an easier and faster procedure. In earlier versions of SQL Server, upgrading required dropping and creating system objects. Because the Resource database file contains all system objects, an upgrade is now accomplished simply by copying the single Resource database file to the local server.
I am trying to migrate a 2008 R2 (SP1) database with one secondary data file to a separate 2014 server using the Copy Database Wizard from the 2014 server, and connect to both SQL engines on that server. It consistently fails on step 5. I'm logging to a text file and the error I see is as follows:
InnerException-->Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
CREATE DATABASE failed. Some file names listed could not be created. Check related errors.
StackTrace: at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection, Action`1 wrapCloseInAction)
I created a test database on the same 2008 server, also with a secondary data file, and it migrated flawlessly using the CDW. I am using the copy object method in all cases, and not the detach/attach method.
I would prefer to perform this without any downtime on the source (production) database.
On one of our SQL Server 2014 boxes each database has a copy-only full backup made every night, in addition to the maintenance plan schedule of a full backup weekly, daily differential backups and log backups.
When performing a PIT restore in SSMS the restore file list lists the most recent copy-only backup as the full backup to use, not the most recent plan full backup. I noticed that using SSMS 2008 to start a PIT restore on the 2014 box does not have this problem, and lists the correct restore file sequence (ignores the copy-only backups).
How can i calculate datediff (in minutes) between two consecutive rows without using CTE & Temp tables?
I was using this successfully, but i need something without CTE and temp tables (both of them are not supported in the tool i am trying to generate a report using custom query).
WITH CTE AS (SELECT ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY Id desc) AS RowNo, * FROM MyTable) SELECT t1.*, ISNULL(DATEDIFF(mi, t2.CreateDate, t1.CreateDate), 0) AS Duration FROM CTE t1 LEFT JOIN CTE t2 ON t1.RowNo = t2.RowNo - 1 ORDER BY t1.Id desc
Select statement joining file1 to file2. File 1 may have 0, 1, or many corresponding rows in file2. I need to count the corresponding rows in table2. Table2 also has a Boolean column and I need to count the number of rows where it is true. So I need to count the total number of matching rows and the count of those that are set to true. This is an example of what I have so far. I had to add each column being selected into a Group by to make it work, but I do not know why. Is there some other way this should be set up.
SELECT c.CarId, c.CarName, c.CarColor, COUNT(t.TrailerId) as trailerCount, (add count of boolian, say t.TrailerFull is true) FROM Car c LEFT JOIN Trailer t on t.CarId = c.CarId GROUP BY c.CarId, c.CarName, c.CarColor
I need to compare two consecutive rows (if BEGDA of second row is 1 day greater than ENDDA of first row then I need to pick First row BEGDA and 2nd row ENDDA)
I'm trying to append rows horizontally - I'm using the "xml path" approach
SELECT E.[USER_NAME] As 'User Name', ( SELECT ',' + C.[PERMISSION_NAME] FOR XML PATH('') ) As [Associated Groups] FROM TABLEA As A JOIN TABLEB AS B ON A.PK_OBJ_ID = B.FK_APP_OBJECT_REF JOIN TABLEC AS C ON C.PK_PERMISSION_ID = B.FK_PERMISSION_REF JOIN TABLED AS D ON D.FK_PERMISSION_REF = C.PK_PERMISSION_ID JOIN TABLEE AS E ON E.PK_PERSONNEL_ID = D.FK_PERSONNEL_REF WHERE A.[OBJECT_NAME] = 'MyObjectName'
It's not working. I'm getting:
User nameAssociated Groups A. SmithG1 A. SmithG2 A. SmithG3 etc...
What I'm looking for is:
User NameAssociated Groups A. SmithG1, G2, G3 etc...
I have a Job that creates .CSV files at predetermined intervals (the delimiter is a tabstop) and every 5 minutes I have to retrieve These files one at a time and Import them into the relevant database.
My solution was to create a list of the files and insert this list into a temporary table where a Cursor would extract each filename one at a time and insert that Name into a BCP Statement. The BCP Statement is constructed using dynamic SQL.
I have huge export files in a DB and i need to check if there are any datasets that have the same value in the first column, but a different in another one, via a query of course.
Like this:
ID IS NULL 1 1 2 1 3 0 1 0
The expected ID i get as a result of my query should be 1 in this case.
We had an issue recently where a (transactional) replicated table was replicating data as expected.
Then about 30 or so rows in the source table were not in the destination table, but other rows created after those 30 rows were replicated.
We have pretty much confirmed that users did not delete those rows.
Unfortunately we had to resolve the issue quickly and so blew away & recreated the subscription so a lot of evidence is probably gone from the crime scene.
We cant figure out what could cause 30 rows not to be replicated, yet leave replication operational.
I am doing a performance testing for In-memory option is sql server 2014. As a part I want to insert 500 million rows of records into a in-memory enabled test table I have created.
I need a sample script to insert 500 million records into a table ....
