SQL Server 2014 :: How To Append Rows Horizontally

Nov 4, 2015

I'm trying to append rows horizontally - I'm using the "xml path" approach

SELECT
E.[USER_NAME] As 'User Name',
(
SELECT ',' + C.[PERMISSION_NAME]
FOR XML PATH('')
) As [Associated Groups]
FROM TABLEA As A
JOIN TABLEB AS B ON A.PK_OBJ_ID = B.FK_APP_OBJECT_REF
JOIN TABLEC AS C ON C.PK_PERMISSION_ID = B.FK_PERMISSION_REF
JOIN TABLED AS D ON D.FK_PERMISSION_REF = C.PK_PERMISSION_ID
JOIN TABLEE AS E ON E.PK_PERSONNEL_ID = D.FK_PERSONNEL_REF
WHERE A.[OBJECT_NAME] = 'MyObjectName'

It's not working. I'm getting:

User nameAssociated Groups
A. SmithG1
A. SmithG2
A. SmithG3
etc...

What I'm looking for is:

User NameAssociated Groups
A. SmithG1, G2, G3
etc...

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Append Differential Backup

Feb 10, 2015

Look at this scenario

1- I have created a backup device
2- I have created a maintenance plan full backup and run it - with overwrite option on the backup device
3- I have created a maintenance plan differential backup and run it with append option on the same file of backup device
4- I have created a maintenance plan log backup with append option on the same backup device

When I made restore database from the backup device i found three files the full and differential and log backup

5- I ran again the differential backup maintenance plan ( suppose to be ran everyday night )

when i made restore database I found only two backups the full and the last differential !!!

what I want to do is to take a full backup every week , append differential backup everyday and append log backup every hour

when I ran the last differential backup it erased the first differential and log backups, why is this happening and how to apply this scenario and keep the all differential backups on the same backup device .

PIVOT To Return Dynamic Rows Horizontally

Hi,

I have a client with the following table structure:

containing the following Data (example):

ItemNumber

2000 Mhz

6473759

Video

128 MB

6473759

I am trying to use PIVOT to convert this into Columns:

Item Number

2300 Mhz

256 MB

1300 Mhz

6473759

2 GB

2000 Mhz

128 MB

1066 Mhz

The problem is that I do not know the names of the columns before I run the query. I retrieve them based on a a list of Item Numbers:
SELECT DISTINCT Name FROM TableName WHERE ItemNumber IN (...)

What I was trying to do is the following, but I am not exactly sure what is wrong:

WITH ProductLines (ItemNumber, ItemName, ItemValue)
AS
(
SELECT ItemNumber, Name, Value FROM ProductItems WHERE ItemNumber IN (...)
)

SELECT * FROM ProductLines -- Don't know the column names
PIVOT
(

... -- Not sure what should come here
FOR ItemNumber IN (...)
)

Thanks a lot,

How Can I Append Only New Rows In A Table Using SSIS?

Aug 15, 2007

Hi,

Im creatting an SSIS project that uses an Data Flow OLE DB Source to read data from an SQL Table and import it into a Destination table using Data Flow OLE DB Destination. but now everytime I run the project it appends all the rows not the new data rows only. How can I make the application so that it appends only the new data from a source table to a destination table. Is there maybe another Data Flow Control that can copy source table to destination and the next time it runs it only copy new rows. or any other way to do this using SSIS.

Your assistance will be highly appreciated.

SQL Server 2014 :: How To Copy Data Rows From Hosting To Local Server

Mar 11, 2015

I'm a web developer who writes transact-SQL to make my web applications run properly. I'm not real strong in other areas of SQL. Let me explain our set-up and then I'll explain what I want to do:

We have an ecommerce web site and all sales are saved in a SQL Server 2008 R2 database at our hosting company. We also have a local Windows 2012 network that has SQL Server 2014 Express installed.

Here is what I want to do:

I want to copy sales rows from the SQL Server 2008 database at our hosting company and save them in the SQL Server 2014 Express database on our local Windows 2012 server. I'd like to automate this if possible so that it happens each night perhaps. I know there is a way to schedule SQL jobs but I've never actually done this. I also would need to know how to attach to our hosting company DB as well as our local network DB.

SQL Server 2014 :: BCP Reports No Errors But Inserting No Rows

Feb 15, 2015

I have a Job that creates .CSV files at predetermined intervals (the delimiter is a tabstop) and every 5 minutes I have to retrieve These files one at a time and Import them into the relevant database.

My solution was to create a list of the files and insert this list into a temporary table where a Cursor would extract each filename one at a time and insert that Name into a BCP Statement. The BCP Statement is constructed using dynamic SQL.

Here the Cursor:

create table #filelist(filename nvarchar(100))
insert into #filelist exec xp_cmdshell 'dir C:BCP_Test /A-D /B'
declare @filename nvarchar(100)
declare @path nvarchar(100)
declare @bcp_open nvarchar(100)

[Code] ....

The code seems to work but although there are around 50000 lines in the .csv file, None of the lines are inserted.

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Certain Rows Not Replicated Yet Replication Was Not Broken

Oct 24, 2013

We had an issue recently where a (transactional) replicated table was replicating data as expected.

Then about 30 or so rows in the source table were not in the destination table, but other rows created after those 30 rows were replicated.

We have pretty much confirmed that users did not delete those rows.

Unfortunately we had to resolve the issue quickly and so blew away & recreated the subscription so a lot of evidence is probably gone from the crime scene.

We cant figure out what could cause 30 rows not to be replicated, yet leave replication operational.

Note that the "actual number of rows" is some 351M...how is this possible?

SQL Server 2014 :: Select Statement Returning Too Many Rows For Backup Start Date

Jun 3, 2015

Here's my statement below. What I'm trying to get is joining the name column in master.sys.databases with a sub query for the database name, file location and backup start date from the MSDB database. The reason for this, if a new database has never been backed up, It should be returning as a NULL value, which is my goal. However, I'm getting multiple results for the backups.

select CONVERT(CHAR(100), SERVERPROPERTY('Servername')) AS Server,a.name,File_Location=b.physical_device_name,backup_start_date=max(backup_start_date)
from master.sys.databases a
left join(select c.database_name,backup_start_date=max(backup_start_date),b.physical_device_name
from msdb.dbo.backupmediafamily b join msdb.dbo.backupset c on c.media_set_id=c.backup_set_id
where c.type='D'

Table Columns Expand Horizontally When Viewing Report Through Report Server

Jan 10, 2008

I have an interesting problem to report that I'm hoping someone will be able to assist in solving.

I have a report that contains a table inside of a list. When I view this report on my local machine via Visual Studio, everything appears normal, the columns are all the correct size. However, as soon as I publish this report to the report server and attempt to view it via Report Manager, one of the columns expands horizontally!

From all of the documentation I have read, I understand that Reporting Services does not provide the ability for columns to expand horizontally, only vertically. Can anyone help explain why this is happening or a possible solution to turn this automatic expanding off?

Many thanks,
canuck81

Displaying Data Horizontally

Feb 7, 2008

In sql server, multiple instances of data default to a row display or vertical. I need a set of data in sql2005 to view horizontally so I can us it in a crystal report. Here is my issue.
gift.HonorKey, gift.HonorName, gift.HonorId
1211 Smith 1222
1244 Owens 4155

I need for the data to read like this:
HonorKey1, HonorKey2, HonorName1, HonorName2, HonorId1, Honorid2
1211 1244 Smith Owens 1222 4155

the table name is gift_view

I would like to be able to create a view in sql analyzer, then save as an SQL View

Display Query Results Horizontally One ID/row

Feb 6, 2003

I have a table where the ID column is a forign key as shown below:

select * from Joel_Table

IDID_Value
1One
2Two
3Three
1Four
2Five
3Six
1Seven
2Eight
3Nine
1Ten

Now, I order the result set based on the ID column:

select ID, ID_Value from Joel_Table
group by ID, ID_Value
order by ID, ID_Value

IDID_Value
1Four
1One
1Seven
1Ten
2Eight
2Five
2Two
3Nine
3Six
3Three

I want though to order the result set as one ID per row:
ID ID_Value ID_Value ID_Value ID_Value
1 Four One SevenTen
2 Eight Five Two
3 Nine Six Three

What is the best way of accomplishing this task?

Thank you much in advance -
