SQL Server 2014 :: Select All Top Level File Paths From A String Value?
Oct 26, 2015
I have a problem where I need to select all top level file paths from a string value in SQL
So I have a column "Locations"
Example Data:
X:folderanotherfolder
X:folderyet another folder
X:foldernameanother folder
X:foldernameyet another folder
I'd want to return only:
X:folder
X:foldername
I need to somehow parse the sting and capture anything before the second ''?

The problem that I am having is that with Visual Web Developer I am creating a webpage and having it directly put online, so for example when I start a new ASP.NET page, I select the location to be HTTP, with the location http://MYWEBSERVER/Website and for the language and Visual BasicI notice a couple of things, first that there is no longer a a link under the Main toolbar "Website" selection called the ASP.NET configuration. So how can I configure what I want to have users be able to do? It seems that this choice is only available if I am building the ASP.NET page on my "localhost". So that is the first problem. So I am able to get the pages to work, atleast the things such as the textboxes to show up etc, (Even things as advanced as the "Login" box). How ever when I try to get someone to try to login I am taken to a page that has an server error. The error is:
"The SSE Provider did not find the database file specified in the connection string. At the configured trust level (below High trust level), the SSE provider can not automatically create the database file. "
The Stack Trace Errors are at the bottom. I think this is happening because the automatically generated databases are not getting built online as they are on my computer. On my computer I have MSSQL express. So either the databases are not getting built for some reason, (and I think that is the case as I don't see any in the folder). So I think that somehow I have to create a database on my server, and then somehow configure the ASP.NET file, perhaps in the Web.Config file to look for that new database. Is this the correct methodology? Is there some simpler way that I can just somehow upload things as they are and have them work correctly on my server? The error says that either the Server did not find the database or that the trust level was insufficient. I don't think that is it as I just looked again and I don't see any .MDF files. So how would I go about getting this to work right? Is there a way to do this with MySQL also? So that I don't have to use MSSQL? My server only allows 1 DataBase for that.
Thanks and I hope my question makes sense. It is basically how can I get it to be able to create and check users etc. online?
Brian

I am trying to send a parameter to an uploaded report, It's default path is:
http://server/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fNavsion%2fNavision+PO+Report
I tried:
http://server/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fNavsion%2fNavision+PO+Report&rs:Command=Render&PONo=15818
It did not run and when I manually added the parameter it changed to:
http://server/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fNavsion%2fNavision+PO+Report&rs%3aCommand=Render&PONo=15818
I also tried to change the properties parameters settings has default unchecked and prompt unchecked
do I need to place the file in a folder on the server instead of uplading it?

I have several databases set to read committed snapshot isolation level. Tempdb is configured according to best practices, but I don't see it's used much.
The application uses EF6, and it calls the stored procedures in the following way
Database.ExecuteSqlCommandAsync("exec dbo.spSync_MatchesByTenant @MatchesGroup, @TenantId", parameter, licenseIDParam);
Is it possible the code does not use the read committed snapshot isolation level of the database?

How you are handling the replication of the many instance-level objects/items (logins, linked servers, server roles, database mail, operators, on and on) to the replicas in an AlwaysOn topology.
I'm especially curious about DBAs managing larger SQL Server environments. In my current environment, we have approximately 80 production SQL instances containing about 650 databases that require high availability and disaster recovery.
We use mirroring today and have a solid, home-grown solution for replicating the instance-level items from production to disaster recovery. AlwaysOn changes things a bit since we'll have multiple replicas and of course the database could be active on any one of those at any time. So my concern is about instance-level items being created in one instance but never deployed to the other instances participating in the AG group.

I'm investigating a poorly performing procedure that I have never seen before. The procedure sets the transaction isolation level, and I suspect it might be doing so incorrectly, but I can't be sure. I'm pasting a bastardized version of the proc below, with all the names changed and the SQL mucked up enough to get through the corporate web filters.
The transaction isolation level is set, but there is no explicit transaction. Am I right that there are two implicit transactions in this procedure and each of them uses snapshot isolation?
SET NOCOUNT ON;
SET TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL SNAPSHOT;
DECLARE @l_some_type varchar(20),
@some_type_code varchar(3),
@error int,
@error_msg varchar(50);

I have been tasked with auditing all DDL and selected DML events on a production server and logging them to a table. My solution is to use CDC for the DML and a Server-Level trigger for the DDL. Because there should never but much DDL activity on the server (except when performing update tasks) I don't need to worry about the trigger consuming too many resources.
My question is this: Is there any single specification such as DDL_LEVEL_EVENTS that can capture all DDL activity or do I need to specify each and every DDL action in the trigger?

maybe it would better to use read uncommitted isolation level?
what's happens ,in the both cases( read committed, uncommitted) if the sp is called at the same time passing the same @key parameter?
this is a sample to show of the real stored procedure works:

I have a situation where I have Table A, Table B.
View C is created by joining table A and table B.
I have written a instead of trigger D on view C.
I do not insert/update/delete on the view directly.
For every insert/update in table A /B the values should get insert/update in the view respectively. This insert/update on view should invoke the trigger.
And I am unable to see this trigger work on the view if any insert/update occurs on base table level.
Trigger is working only if any operation is done directly on the view.

I have to write a where condition where i need to compare string with date
I have 2 columns FROMDATE and TODATE with datatype varchar(9)
The strings in the columns looks like YYYYMMDD+'1' or YYYYMMDD+'2' here 1 is Am and 2 is PM
i.e., 201401011 or 201401012
So I need to chop off last character before using them in WHERE condition.
Now I need to write a where condition like [if todays date is in between fromdate and todate columns then return rows.
if FROMDATE column is null it should take minimum date 1900/01/01 if TODATE is null then date should be 9999/01/01
The query i wrote is
select * from Table where ISNULL(SUBSTRING(VALIDTO,1,8),'19000101') > = getdate()
AND ISNULL(SUBSTRING(VALIDTO,1,8),'99991231') < convert(varchar, getdate(), 112)

I have a need to create a table in a sql server database from C# code. The kicker is that the user must be able to specify the table and field names via the UI. I can do a bit of sanity checking but as long as they enter something reasonable I need to accept it. Normaly I always ADO parameters to sanitise any user parameters but they can't be applied to table and field names, only values. As far as I'm aware that leaves me needing to concatenate strings and that's something I usually avoid like the plague due to risk of SQL injection.
My actual question : Assuming string concatenation is my only way forward, how can I sanitise the values that would go into the table name and fieldname bits of a CREATE TABLE statement to ensure that injection can't occur? I've been pondering it and I think I just need to check for semi-colons. Without a semi-colon I don't think a user could inject an extra statement could they?

Ive just installed VS2005 Pro and SQL Server Developer edition.
Now I want to set the default paths for project, templates, settings. But I want for both VS and SQL files.
For example, right now the default folders for SQL Studio are:
.My DocumentsSQL Server Management StudioProjects
.My DocumentsSQL Server Management StudioSettings
.My DocumentsSQL Server Management StudioTemplates
.My DocumentsSQL Server Management StudioBackup Files
... and so on.
For VS Studio:
.My DocumentsVisual Studio 2005Projects
.My DocumentsVisual Studio 2005Templates
.My DocumentsVisual Studio 2005Code Snippets
... and so on.
I would like for all sub-folders(from SQL Server and VS) to be in one same folder(Development), for example:
.My DocumentsDevelopmentProjects
.My DocumentsDevelopmentSettings
.My DocumentsDevelopmentTemplates
.My DocumentsDevelopmentBackup Files
.My DocumentsDevelopmentCode Snippets
... and so on.
I have tried changing in each applicationīs options the default path for each one, pointing to each folder I listed above.
My problem is that both VS and SQL Server still keeps creating folders in the old locations, for example: ".My DocumentsSQL Server Management StudioProjects". This example happens when I create a new query, and try to save it, it automatically creates that folder.
It only works for a few of them, like the settings folder. Ive managed to create a single folder for SQL and VS setting files.
Is there a way I can join both Application folders? I want to keep both projects files in one folder, both setting files in one folder, and so on...
I hope I explained well my situation.
Thanks!
