SQL Server 2K Installation Question
Jan 23, 2006
Hi,
Is it a good idea to install the SQL Server 2K on separate disks as opposed to installing it on the default C:, together with the operating system (Windows XP Server)? This refers to the SQL Server program files only as the data and log files will be on their own disks.

AZV

I get an error when trying to install the SQL Native Client. It
says it cannot find the installation package and to use a valid copy of
'sqlncli.msi'. I've downloaded the Express setup twice and get
the same error from both of them.
I'm attempting this in a VMWare session setup for Windows 2K, Advanced
Server. I am trying to test my installation and setup
procedures. This is not a production setup, just install testing
and documentation. I have allocated only 272MB to the VMWare
session, which is why the system doesn't meet the recommended settings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Guys,
I have had SQL Server Express and Sql Server Management Studio Express installed on my machine for some time and recently tried to install a trial of SQL Server 2005 as well. (Yes, I'm migrating from Visual Studio Express to Visual Studio Professional, just as in tended!)
Everything went fine except that nothing seemed to be installed. I searched in all the obvious places - both on the Start/Programs menu and on the hard-drive: nothing.
A check under Add/Remove Programs showed that Sql Server 2005 Express was installed, but called SQL Server 2005.
So after a number of retries in which the install program kept saying that there was nothing to install, I selected every option under Advanced in the intall process. This resulted in stuff being installed and I now have SQL Server 2005 running on my machine, but no SQL Server Manager icon.
My questions are:
Where can I find the SQL Server Manager executeable?
Has anyone installed SQL Server Express, SQL Server Mangement Studio Express, SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server Management Studio on a single machine successfully? If so, what order did you install them in? (I'm planning on uninstalling everything SXQL Server related and starting again.)
Thanks very much for your help.
Regards
Gary

I am using SQL Express 2005 server and sql compact edition for my PDA. For synchronization, which SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Server Tools installation package do I use?
Is it Sqlce30setupen.msi or sql2kensp4.msi or sql2kensp3a.msi? I know for sql server 2005 its Sqlce30setupen.msi. Is it the same for the SQL Express 2005?

I am new to this sql server thing. And for last couple of days i m trying to figure out whether we can install sql server 2000 ent edition in a server after installing or upgrading sql server 2005 from (sql server 2000) . As sql server 2005 is know to exist side by side with earlier sql server versions .
And coming to the problem which i m facing is , I have installed sql server 2005 ent in windows 2000 server in which sql server 2000 is residing.Later when i observerd i realised that actually i have upgraded 2000 to sql 2005 server (which i hav done after consulting many people). As a result few of the client systems which were running sql server personal edition were unable to access their data from the database. For temporary relief i have installed sql server 2005 express edition plus management studio in the client systems . The doubts which i am having are
1) what happens if i uninstall sql server 2005
2) Is it possible to install sql server 2000 ent edition now to work along with sql server 2005

I have got problems with installation of a default instance on SQL Server 2008 on Vista Home Premium. During the step of Server Configuration you should enter UserName and password for each service. I do not know what user name to type. I tried every possible combination but the outcome is always the same - after typing usernames and passwords, installation suddenly fails without casting any exception. I'm not sure if I do something wrong (wrong User Name or Password) or is it a problem with installation application or with OS. Please, help.

I am quite new to asp.net and is still int he learning phase, working
my way through a text book. At the moment I'm having trouble installing
SQL server 2000. When I try to run the installation file I get the
follwing error message :
A strong SA password is needed for security reasons.
Please use SAPWD switch to supply the same.
Refer to readme for details. Setup will now exit.
It might have something to do with the fact that I don't have an administrator's
password on XP at the moment.
Could someone please tell me what's wrong or what to do to get SQL Server to install.
P.S I don't check the forum that often so if someone replies to this
could they please send me an email to gfcarstens@mweb.co.za to notify

I've just installed SQL Server 6.5 on NT Server 4.0 and then installed utilities on my client Win 95 machine. I've registered the server on the NT and on the client machine as well.
However, on the client machine I can't get the 'green light' on the server icon, and 'Start', 'Stop' options aren't available either. (Everything looks OK on the server itself (NT machine).)
I've registered server useing 'sa' account and changed sa's password (from the initial "").
Is it because I need to take additional steps to take a complete control over the server? Or it just a client utilities settings? Or both?

Hi there,
I installed SQL Server 2000 in my Windows XP Professional 2002. Before the installation finished, there was an error message about the HHCOL.EXE, I don't know this file. I restarted my computer then I tried to go to Enterprise Manager to start creating Database but there was a promp message saying:
"Snap-in-failed to initialize.
Name:Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Manager
CLSID: {00100100-1816-11D0-8EF5-00AA0062C58F}"
What does it mean?
I installed several times in Windows XP for SQL Server 2000 but this is my first time to encounter this problem. The SQL Service Manager works fine (Services:SQL Server). Our server name has the maximum lenght of 15 characters long.
What should I do?
Please help.

Hi,
I had been using Windows 2000 Server along with MS SQL Server 2000. But now I have formatted my computer and installed Microsoft Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server Service Pack 1. Since then, I am not able to install SQL Server 2000 in it.
Please suggest which version of SQL Server should I install, and where to download it from.
Is it possible to install SQL Server 2000 server module in Windows 2003, since it says only the client module of SQL Server 2000 can be loaded here. I dont want to install any express edition, i.e., MSDE.
Please help.

I just installed SQL Server 2000 Developers edition on my computer. After installation I tried to create a simple table which I was unable to do. When I attempted to create the table, I went into SQL Server Enterprise Manager and under Console Root I extended / Microsoft SQL Servers / SQL Server Group / (local) Windows NT when it gave me the following 2 message box errors :

An error 1069-(The service did not start due to login failure)occured while preforming this server operation on the MSSQL service.

Please verify SQL Server is running and check your SQL Servier registion properties(by right-
clicking on the (local) node) and try again.

I have Windows XP Professional and currently run IIS. I have tried re-registering without success and at this point I don't know what I need to do in order to correct these errors and create a simple table.
