I am looking for a table where Maintenance Clean Up Task configuration is stored. For example, Delete file older than the following - which is 2 days. Which table can I retrieve the setting in msdb ?

I have a query. Here are the steps:
1. I created a maintenance plan using Visual Studio 2013 (nothing fancy pretty basic)
2. Using ssms 2014 I imported it (the dtsx file) under the Integration Services and it appeared there successfully
3. I connected to the Database Engine again using ssms 2014 - my expectation was to see it under the Management > Maintenance Plans folder but it was not present.

One of my programmers changed their database from full to Simple recovery. Saw that my job that backs up the Full Recovery mode databases failed, so I moved that database to my Simple database backup job plan and removed it from the Full Recovery job. I am unable to remove the db from the Transaction Log task on the Full Plan because when I try to edit that job "Databases with Simple Recovery will be excluded"
My transaction log backups are still failing with the following error: "The statement BACKUP LOG is not allowed while the recovery model is SIMPLE. Use BACKUP DATABASE or change the recovery model using ALTER DATABASE. BACKUP LOG is terminating abnormally.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.Just want to remove that database so my Full Recovery backup job does not try to back it up.

Unable to start execution of step 1 (reason: line(1): Syntax error). The step failed.
line 1? Is that line one of the T-SQL statement? Because if that's the case then it's not because I copied and pasted the line in to a query and it executed without error.
Under SQL Agent there are no entries!
So what bloody log am I suppose to be checking?! This is very frustrating.
I then copied and pasted every sql statement in to a query and THEY all ran just fine.
What's going wrong here, and how can I correct it?

I want to use a certificate with 10-years expiration date. I created a new template certificate, based on default computer certificate, and I only change expiration date to 10 years.
In SQL Server SSL configuration, I dont view this certificate. In only view certificate created with the "Computer" template (with validity period of 365 days). All others certificates based on template are invisible to SQL Server
How can I use a custom template instead of the default "computer" template ?

The plan cache is cleared automatically (every 30-60 seconds) on our high load OLPT server.
Can't find a reason for it. I have been logging procedure cache thru dm_exec_cached_plans, every second for a couple of minutes.
It shows that it doesn't grow beyond 200Mb. SQLserver has 64Gb available.
DBCC FREEPROCCACHE is not executed.
dm_os_memory_clerks shows the same 200Mb max (approximately).
I disabled the SQL Agent, still happens, so it's not a job causing the problem.
I disabled the Resource Governor, still the same problem.

I've been fixing some issues lately where weekly maintenance has been causing logs to grow and filling disks.
Is there any rule of thumb for allocating log space for doing reorgs and rebuilds in a worst case scenario? I'm thinking 3x the largest database size?
I've been watching them run on databases in the range of 50GB where the logs are growing well over that for rebuilds or even reorgs. Once you have a few databases like this on a server, you can suddenly eat through a lot of disk space just for holding logs during maintenance.

What I asked for: Three Windows Server 2012 R2 machines with independent storage running a SQL Server 2014 AlwaysOn Availability Group. DB1 would be the primary, DB2 would be a synchronous replica, and DB3 would be a remote asynchronous replica.
What I was given: a two-node Windows Server 2012 R2 WSFC to run SQL Server 2014 Enterprise with shared storage and a third (remote) Windows Server 2012 R2 machine with independent storage, also with SQL Server 2014 Enterprise, to host an AlwaysOn Availability Groups asynchronous replica.
DB1 and DB2 (as Cluster1) share an E: drive. The remote DB3 has its own E: drive. Initially, DB3’s E: drive was claimed as a cluster resource and I couldn’t even see it. I’ve had several ugly days trying to make this work and have temporarily given up, installing DB3 as a standalone SQL Server that is no longer part of the WSFC and pointing everything towards that (it was originally a third node in the WSFC).
Is it possible to create an AlwaysOn Availability Group with nested clusters (i.e. create the AOAG with Cluster1 and DB3 and somehow ignore the individual nodes that comprise Cluster1)?

I have a server with 2 processors, 12 cores each making it a 24 core logical system.
My tempdb has 4 datafiles and 4 logfiles created.
I know creating more number of log files in tempdb may not make sense, but how many tempdb data files are supposed to be created?
Should it be 24?

In SQL 2008 R2, if we clone an environment including SQL server, the maintenance plans retain a connection string to the source/original server they got cloned from and are not editable. But, I was able to use a work around by editing them in BIDS and saving them back on the server. But now with 2014, I am facing two issues:
1.I still can edit the package to correct the server connection, with SSDT; but the option to save back to the server is not available any longer!
2.I used to be able to see all my plans under SSIS in 2008 R2 but not in 2014 now. Although, they are listed in SSMS!

I have a maintenance plan set to back up my 2 primary databases, one about 1 GB, the other about 2GB. I have about 4 GB available on the back up drive. I have set it to delete old backups more than 1 minute old. Problem is, the first night it works fine, the second night it sometimes it refuses to delete the old and therefore does not have enough space to complete the new back-up. Does anyone run into this before? Does it complete both back-ups THEN erase the old, in which case I need to have about 6GB available? Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It can be going along fine for weeks then stop working. Any info or links to how this is supposed to work would help.
TIA

I've got the below and have several variation and still cant seem to find a perfect way to query the server to bring back that last full backup per db. I'm shopwing mutilple records in the backup set db w/ type = 'D'. I look online and type D = Database. Which i assumed it meant full database backup. Apparently not. Try running the below on one of your full databases. Then check to see if the date is actually the last backup date.
DECLARE @db_name VARCHAR(100)
SELECT @db_name = DB_NAME()
-- Get Backup History for required database
SELECT TOP ( 30 ) s.database_name,
m.physical_device_name,
[Code] ....

" Does AlwaysON secondary replica support Full backup, if it is not why"?
I know AlwaysON secondary replicas support only copy_only and tlog backups, why they wont support full backup?

I need to restore a SQL 2008 db on SQL 2014 instance with out upgrading the database(changing compatibility level).
This database has full text enabled. I see one full text catalog an 2 full text indexes.
Do I need to worry about anything or can I perform a clean restore from the backup with full text import?
Do I need to rebuild the catalog in this case?

We are running SQL 2014 SP1. We are using defined Full text indexes on several tables in the database. However, on one specific set of servers, a certain search will not return any data. This exact same search works on another set of servers built identically. The first responses I'm sure will be stop list, but I have dropped and recreated the FTI multiple times with different stop lists or no stop list at all and get the same results.
The specific word being searched on is YUM. If I change the value to YUMk, it actually returns, and if I change the data to TUM it returns, but YUM does not. This exact query is working on multiple other systems, so it seems to be something environmental, but I haven't been able to pinpoint it.

So my question is: When I finally would be deploying my ( asp.net 2.0) web site in a distant real server, how could I set a Maintenance Plan there ?

When viewing an estimated query plan for a stored procedure with multiple query statements, two things stand out to me and I wanted to get confirmation if I'm correct.
1. Under <ParameterList><ColumnReference... does the xml attribute "ParameterCompiledValue" represent the value used when the query plan was generated?
<ParameterList>
<ColumnReference Column="@Measure" ParameterCompiledValue="'all'" />
</ParameterList>
</QueryPlan>
</StmtSimple>
2. Does each query statement that makes up the execution plan for the stored procedure have it's own execution plan? And meaning the stored procedure is made up of multiple query plans that could have been generated at a different time to another part of that stored procedure?

I installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise, then SP1 and then SP2, Maintenance Plan worked. But if I installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise and then SP2 directly (skipping SP1), the Check Database Integrity in Maintenance Plan was not working. The error message is as follows:
Executed as user: DomainSqlServiceAccount. Microsoft (R) SQL Server Execute Package Utility Version 9.00.3042.00 for 64-bit Copyright (C) Microsoft Corp 1984-2005. All rights reserved. Started: 10:56:21 AM Could not load package "Maintenance PlansTest Plan" because of error 0xC0014062. The SQL statement that was issued has failed. Source: Started: 10:56:21 AM Finished: 10:56:21 AM Elapsed: 0.047 seconds. The package could not be loaded. The step failed.
Other tasks like Rebuild Index seem to be fine. SP2 is supposed to be inclusive. Does anyone have any ideas on why this is happening.
Thanks

I have inherited a server on which is a maintenance plan with two subplans on different schedules. In each subplan there are Execute T-SQL tasks with scripts for index rebuilds. Each task is set up with a Completion arrow to the next task and a Failure arrow to a Notify Operator Task. I was asked to add a task for index rebuilds to a specific subplan for a specific database, which is what the other tasks also do. I discovered that my task was failing but the others were fine. No notification was sent about my task failing even though the job is marked in MSDB as a failed job. I have sent a test email using the "Send Test Email..." option when right clicking Database Mail in SSMSand I receive an email so I know Database Mail works.
I set up a test job to model the index job that I can't get notifications from. I have two T-SQL tasks that just select the top row from a small table. The first task has a syntax error that I did so it would fail. I have a failure arrow to a Notify Operator Task and a Completion arrow to another T-SQL task with no syntax error which has a Success arrow to a Notify Operator task. As expected, when I execute this job I receive one failure email and one success email.
The only other troubleshooting step I know to try is to add a Notify Operator task before my failing task. That Notify Operator task will hopefully fire to tell me that the previous step was successful. I am not having problems with the other steps so I was just thinking I would try to get the subplan to send me a success email about one of the steps that has been working fine.

I did tried the encryption on server "A" for database "AdventureWorks2012". Then I tried to restore to server "B". There was the certificate issue, and I thought "of course : it's encrypted ! Let's deactivate it". So here I go "ALTER DATABASE AdventureWorks2012 SET ENCYRPTION OFF".I look at sys.databases : not encrypted.I backup using no encryption, I verify using msdb.dbo.backupset : not encrypted.
I move my backup to my other server where encryption was never configured (so no certificate, nothing...), and I have the error :

Query to show logins that don't have any permissions within the SQL instance? I'm tasked with doing some cleanup and have found some cases where the database was deleted or moved to another server but the logins that used it were not deleted. I'd like to identify them to research.
For instance a query to show logins that have no permissions in any of the existing databases would be handy. I'm thinking it would be complicated by the need to loop through all of the existing databases and then outer join it to the list of instance level logins. Going to try to write something like that but was hoping that a script already exists.

My database went into suspected mode. and after we had run some script, it came out from the suspected mode. but we encountered this error while opening table in database.
2009-11-02 15:46:42.90 spid51 Error: 824, Severity: 24, State: 2.
2009-11-02 15:46:42.90 spid51 SQL Server detected a logical consistency-based I/O error: incorrect pageid (expected 1:43686; actual 0:0). It occurred during a read of page (1:43686) in database ID 23 at offset 0x0000001554c000 in file 'H:MSSQL.SQL2008MSSQLDATAmy_db.mdf'.
Additional messages in the SQL Server error log or system event log may provide more detail. This is a severe error condition that threatens database integrity and must be corrected immediately. Complete a full database consistency check (DBCC CHECKDB). This error can be caused by many factors; for more information, see SQL Server Books Online.
