SQL Server Admin 2014 :: DNS Name Not Match Active Directory Domain Name For Reporting Services
Feb 11, 2015
I am running into a weird issue with a new SQL Reporting Services 2014 server I built. I installed SQL Reporting 2014 on Windows Server 2012 R2 and configured Kerberos, but the site is extremely slow. After some reconfiguration and log captures I have determined the issue has to do with the Kerberos setup, however I am running a similar configuration with SQL Reporting Services 2008 on Windows Server 2008 R2 and do not run into the same errors.
The error I see while using Wireshark is KRB Error: KRB5KDC_ERR_BADOPTION NT Status: STATUS_NO_MATCH. When I drill down the into the error I can see the kerberos string is testprjmnmtreports14.company.com, which is the URL we are using to access the site. I made sure to add that name as an SPN for the service account that is running SQL Reporting Services, however I still receive the error.
Then I tried configuring the site to run without a hostheader, so I accessed the site with the server name, ECTSTSQLRS5, and the site works perfectly fine, no errors are reported either. So it seems I have isolated the issue down to Kerberos but I am not sure how to resolve it. Here is some more information about my environment:
DNS/URL used: testprjmnmtreports14.company.com
Server Name (FQDN): ECTSTSQLRS5.company.int
AD Domain Name: company.int
Server Version: Windows Server 2012 R2
AD Functional Level: 2008 R2
As you can see I am trying to use a .com address but my AD domain is .int which I think is the issue, but I do not have the same problem on my other server that is running Windows Server 2008 R2. What do I need to do to allow my new site on 2012 R2 to work with this DNS Alias?
I am trying to setup querying Active directory from sql for the first time.
We are running on windows server 2012 and using sql 11.0.2100.60. Have tried the following
sql is on sever dev AD is on sever DO
EXEC sp_addlinkedserver 'ADSI', 'Active Directory Services 2.5', 'ADSDSOObject', 'adsdatasource' GO
[Code] ....
I get the following error when I try and query
Msg 7321, Level 16, State 2, Line 2 An error occurred while preparing the query "SELECT name FROM 'LDAP:// xxxx.internal' WHERE objectCategory='Person' AND objectClass = 'contact'" for execution against OLE DB provider "ADSDSOObject" for linked server "ADSI".
I have more than 3000 Active Directory Users, I have created Role Level Security on one table by using Suser_name(), Now all the active directory users need to connect sql server and access the database role object. How can I achieve that without Using .net?
I am able to add all active directory users to sql server in one go, but I am also trying to achieve same time to map with database role as well? Is it possible ?
I have a SQL 2008 running on a server that is not part of an Active Directory Domain. I would like to add the server to Active Directory. How will this impact SQL in terms of the SQL users, Windows Authentication, and permissions?
When we assign security in SRS, in the user name field we have to type the domainusername manually. We cannot see the drop down of all the users in Active directory. Is it possible to configure SRS to get the names from Active directory. If we add any new users to our AD, it automatically refreshes at certain set intervals. I am talking to a similar function in Sharepoint. I browsed through a bit on this and think it is not possible. But I want to make sure that I am on the right path.
Can you please correct me if my understanding is right?
I appreciate your help and thank you for your time,
I have a SQL server box running 2014 reporting services. I have another server running IIS v8.
I would like to be able to connect to the IIS site and be given the SSRS report browser.
So externally if I browse to [URL], I am presented with the report server interface, the same as if I browse to http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/reports internally.
I've got reporting services on a different box from the database and I can see all the reports, but when I try to setup a subscription, I get this weird error:
The SQL Agent service is not running. This operation requires the SQL Agent service. (rsSchedulerNotResponding)
The same error happens when I connect to the database server via management studio and try to run a job.
I've migrated a server with SQL Server 2008R2 and Reporting services into a new box with SQL Server 2014, but forgot to change the timezone to the correct one. I've changed it later, but it seems like the reports are running by the old default timezone. The schedule says that the report should run at 6:30am, but the Last Run column shows 8:30 PM.
I need to fix it without manually updating each subscription with some date/time conversion.
The permissions granted to user 'xxxxyyy' are insufficient for performing this operation. When a user is deleted and then readded to active directory. Reporting services returns the insufficient permissions granted error. In dbo.users in the sql database there are 2 entries for the deleted user one with UserType 0 and another with UserType 1. How do you clean up reporting services or sql to allow the reciently re-added user to re-connect to reporting services. We use the MY-Reports option of reporting services but cannot delete the home directory for this user either in report Mgr. The same error is returned for this action.
When I try to install sql server 2014 on my machine, all the features were installed but except Reporting services-Native and error occurred as shown below.
Error details: ยง Error installing SQL Server Reporting Services Updating permission setting for folder 'C:WindowsTemp' failed. The folder permission setting were supposed to be set to 'DA;OICI;0x1200af;;;S-1-5-80-4063824523-3130906261-2263067808-2545249320-213050741)'. Error code: 0x84CF0003
We have a SQL 2014 active passive cluster with 5 instances. When the cluster was installed one of the nodes was a virtual machine. As we started to have problems and this is not a Microsoft supported configuration we decided to replace the virtual node with a phyiscal one. On 3 of these 5 instances we configured static ports (1433 TCP) this was required for applications and firewall implementation.
Now with the physical node joined to the cluster we have issues with these three instances. Whenever one of these instances is moved to the passive node the server authentication is changed from mixed to windows only. I'm no SQL expert at all but to me it looks like the configuration of the instances are not replicated to the passive node? I found some similar problems on the net but these are mostly under sql 2008.
Has anyone used this successfully from an OLEDB source component, or even from the Execute SQL Task? I've seen some examples of using a script component, but nothing that uses it through a connection manager.
we have roughly 22 people connected to one database. But after a while, their applications begin to drag due to in and out communication with the server. When i check the active connections on the sql server, some times i see 157 active connections, please how to i set a timeout or connection interval close, so as reduce the heavy load being put on the server. Or how can i automatically close connections when they get higher than 50 connections.
I want two write a small script to determine which is the currently active (primary) server in the AG.
Right now, I see that using SELECT * FROM SYS.dm_hadr_availability_replica_states I can determine the role. However, when the server goes down and switches to the secondary node, I don't believe that the role changes (or does it?). How do I determine which is the active node?
I need to add one of our servers to active directory. I found some documents on SQL 2000 but no good document on SQL 2005. Can you please guide me to the documentation for this? Thanks
I would like to setup replica for one of the databases for reporting. The current environment is a 2 node cluster(active/passive). I would like to add a 3rd node that can server as a secondary replica. The secondary replica will be on asynchronous commit mode.
The database that needs to have alwayson setup has column level encryption enabled.
Other Questions,
* Do I need to backup and restore the service master key on secondary server in order to have the column level encryption to work on secondary server? * What would be preferred Quorum settings? * What is the setting for 'readable secondary' for primary and replica db? * What should be the setting for 'Connections in Primary Role' for primary and replica db? * We are trying to setup without a Listner. Do I need to setup AG Listener? Can the application exclusively use the [secondary instance name].[replica DB name] without a listener?
We have a 2 node clustered instance(SQL 2014) with 26 databases and we would like to enable alwayson for one of the databases for reporting (only one secondary and do not need high availability setup). I'm thinking if the reporting application/queries can explicitly connect to the secondary database(Instance namedatabase name) without using a listener and setup the secondary in asynchronous commit mode. Read about the REDO thread blocking due to reporting workload. How does this affect if I implement the secondary in this way.
I'm working on a web project that will display the reports in an iframe to the user. When I was using windows security It worked perfectly.
Now my boss wants me to use form based authentication instead that can authenticate against our current Active Directory. This is working perfectly and does authenticate correctly. The only problem is that when I load a report in the iframe http://myserver/reportserver/myreport-blah reporting services prompts the user to enter in windows credentials. Is there anyway to pass my form credentials to the report server so that the user doesn't have to log in again.
Both the report server and the web app are on the same server BUT in different virtual directories.
PS: I tried using the reportviewer control but it does not display things correctly. For example, I have use a multi select dropdown on the reports and it messes up the drop down when the user only has 1 selection (hiding the selection). If the user has more than one selection the drop down uses scroll bars. I would use the reportviewer control if it displayed exactly like it does when using alternate URL method.
I am working on the security model for an application that will be used by 100s of users with a dedicated SQL 2005 database for this application and access via SQL XML Web Services.
The client has asked to make it "open" during alpha testing such that anyone can access the web services without having to set them up first. Is there a way to do this? The best I can figure is to use mixed mode security and hard code a login and password. Any method using Windows authentication would require that I add every user at a minimum to the database.
In production, all users will have an active directory role specified that determines if they should have access to the web services or not. However, it is my understanding that to use Windows authentication, I would still need to add each individual user at a minimum as a Login to the SQL Server, and under best practices also as database users with permissions granted to the endpoint.
Am I correct in the above, or is there a more efficient way to achieve these results?
We have run into an issue on a dedicated SSAS 2012 SP1 server where the allocated memory is not being utilized, causing some slowness in use, connections, and queries.
Total Memory on the server is 512, and after startup, the utilized memory gets up to a max of 60GB and stops there. Checking the Resource Monitor, msmdsrv.exe is only taking around 39GB overall. With the current properties, that should be at 330GB. Am I missing something in the settings or in configuration that should be changed?
Version: SQL Server 2012 SP1 Enterprise (11.0.3000) OS: Windows Server 2012 Datacenter - Fully patched and up to date Databases: 2 Tabular models Server: 512GB RAM
Is it possible to have Analysis Services in both modes or are they mutually exclusive?I have a machine setup with Multidimensional AS and would like to know if it's possible to add a Service in Tabular mode.
I've just got RS Enterprise Edition. Installed it in a Test Server, ok. Installed it in a DEV server, having some errors.
My DEV server is an "ALL in 1" server, which is also a Domian Controller. While Test Server is not a DC.
The installation was succesful but when I open RS Manager thru the web, it gives me a ASP.NET error:
Access to the path "D:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLReporting ServicesReportManagerin" is denied. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path "D:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLReporting ServicesReportManagerin" is denied.
ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.
To grant ASP.NET write access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access.
I tried doing everything I can possible think of from the error message advice, including adding rights to ASPNET user from ISS to that particular folder...no success.
What I'm suspecting is I can't install RS in a DC box. But I can't find this info anyway in the web.
Anyone can point me to the correct direction or any advice?
I had to migrate my report server (2008R2) to a new domain. I built new server and restored the old ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB into new server and also restored the certificate from old server. The Report Server is running but I don't have full access to all server futures anymore, looks like it's AD authentication messed up. My new account is Admin on new server but I can't see all options, like New Data Source, or wehn going on report level to manage to see all option such as Parameters, Subscriptions, Data Source.
I have recently upgraded my the server that runs SQL Server to an Active Directory Domain Controler. Now I can't connect to the SQL Server from ASP.NET Applications when the application is not located on the local machine. The error message I get is SQL Server does not exist or access is denied. I have no problems connecting with QueryAnalyer and Enterprise Manager from my workstation. I have added the Sql Server to the directory via the "Active Directory"-tab in the Property window for my Sql Server Registration i Enterprise Manager. If I copy a directory from the wwwroot on my workstation to the server the application has no problem to connect so the connectionstring seams to work fine.
I have a requirement to implement CDC for 50+ tables to implement incremental data changes warehouse/reporting rather than exporting the whole table data. The largest table is having more than half a billion records.
The warehouse use a daily copy of OLTP db (daily DB refresh). How can I accomplish this. Is there a downside in implementing CDC just for the sake of taking incremental changes on the tables?
Is there any performance impact if we enable CDC on OLTP db?
Can we make use of the CDC tables on the environment we do daily db refresh so that the queries don't hit OLTP database?
What is the best way to implement CDC to take incremental changes for reporting.
I want to set up a database role so that users can use sp_readerrorlog through SSMS. It does a check on membership in the securityadmin role.
I have tested it and can see you can grant execute on xp_readerrorlog but the SSMS GUI uses sp_readerrorlog.
I thought I could create a user/certificate and add the signature to sp_readerrorlog but it's not permitted (likely because it's not a normal database object).
So the other solution is to add the users to the securityadmin role but then explicitly deny alter any login (best done with a custom server role in 2012+ but otherwise just manually in 2008). I tested this out and it works, I'm not able to alter any logins or increase my own permissions, I also did a check of what's reported from fn_my_permissions(null, null) and it shows minimal permissions like I'd expect.
I look for and try to get data from Active Directory to MSSQL Server, but have same error:
Msg 7321, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 An error occurred while preparing the query "SELECT name FROM 'LDAP://office.experter.group' WHERE objectCategory = 'Person' AND objectClass = 'user'" for execution against OLE DB provider "ADsDSOObject" for linked server "ADSI".
for the code:
select * from openquery ( ADSI,'SELECT name FROM ''LDAP://office.experter.group'' WHERE objectCategory = ''Person'' AND objectClass = ''user''' )
Sometimes a user name will change in Active Directory and I have to change the name in SQL Server as well. So what I do is first delete the old user name from SQL Server's logins. However I wont be able to see the new user name in SQL Server to add it as a legit user until I roboot the server. Is there somekind of code I can execute to resynchronize with Active Directory again?
