how to identify the data leakage in a database , as I heard in one of my environment?
what is the meaning for data leakage ?
I was running an operation to shrink file/emptyfile a data file, and then remove it.
It blocked and caused a huge mess, I suspect on the removal part. But I want to confirm that the emptyfile completed (and that the engine isn't going to try to put more data in there for when I schedule the removal part again a week or more from now).
How does the engine know not to put any more data in there, and how long does that situation last?
I have this script that I'm trying to filter the results of the Job History to the day prior at 1800 hours.
It return dates prior to what I have in the WHERE clause.
What should the WHERE Clause look like?
USE msdb
Go
SELECT j.name JobName,h.step_name StepName,
CONVERT(CHAR(10), CAST(STR(h.run_date,8, 0) AS dateTIME), 111) RunDate,
STUFF(STUFF(RIGHT('000000' + CAST ( h.run_time AS VARCHAR(6 ) ) ,6),5,0,':'),3,0,':') RunTime,
h.run_duration StepDuration,
case h.run_status when 0 then 'failed'

What is the best way to restore a database from a folder of backups (including full, diff and log backups) without using the backup history in msdb?
I have a restore process that restores all backups on a regular schedule in order to fully verify their integrity. To do this, I use the backup history in msdb on each server that I'm monitoring. I had a thought the other day that I would be in trouble if I lost msdb. Then my backup history would only be as good as the last backup of msdb.
What I'd like to do is read a folder of backup files and generate a restore script up to a specified time. Would I use RESTORE HEADERONLY to do this? If so, would I use PowerShell to traverse each file in the folder?
How do I grant a specific access to a schema. I have a request to grant a ddl access to a schema called Business_Banking.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to copy the table data from db to another db, because some tables has XML column with a schema collection, I would like to get difinition of the XML schema collection and create it on the target db, otherwise I will get below error:
Xml columns cannot refer to schemata across databases.
My plan is for those tables with xml column with schema collection, I will:
1. Get all tables/columns that requires xml schema
SELECT t.name AS table_name,
SCHEMA_NAME(t.schema_id) AS schema_name,
c.name AS column_nam,
c2.name
FROM sys.tables AS t
INNER JOIN sys.columns c ON t.OBJECT_ID = c.OBJECT_ID
inner join sys.xml_schema_collections c2 on c.xml_collection_id = C2.xml_collection_id
2. Get table definition
DECLARE
@object_name SYSNAME
, @object_id INT
, @SQL NVARCHAR(MAX)
SELECT
@object_name = '[' + OBJECT_SCHEMA_NAME(o.[object_id]) + '].[' + OBJECT_NAME([object_id]) + ']'
, @object_id = [object_id]
FROM (SELECT [object_id] = OBJECT_ID('TableName', 'U')) o
[code].....
3. Get XML Schema definition
4. Combine 2 and 3.
5 insert into newtable select .... cast(xmlColumnas xml) from OldDB.dbo.oldtable
I am stuck at step 3 now....
Whenever I am doing reinitialization, publisher table schema is applying at subscriber level
I don't want to apply all changes ...
How can I skip the schema changes for transaction replication ...
There is a report when you click servername, report and run SCHEMA CHANGE HISTORY
I had my SQL 2005 running for a few weeks and this is many listed from day started is there a way to recycle this and clean it up on a weekly basic
I am asking about a virtual IP for SQL Server, is there a way we can assign a different IP to SQL Server other than the server's(host) IP address? like the same what we do in a clustered env.

I am trying to find a needle in a haystack.
One of the tables in this database has a column named column_xyz.
There are over 800 tables, each with numerous columns. If I know that the column I am looking for is "column_xyz" is there an easy query I can do to identify all tables that contain that column?
I hope.
Thanks
I have a requirement to implement CDC for 50+ tables to implement incremental data changes warehouse/reporting rather than exporting the whole table data. The largest table is having more than half a billion records.
The warehouse use a daily copy of OLTP db (daily DB refresh). How can I accomplish this. Is there a downside in implementing CDC just for the sake of taking incremental changes on the tables?
Is there any performance impact if we enable CDC on OLTP db?
Can we make use of the CDC tables on the environment we do daily db refresh so that the queries don't hit OLTP database?
What is the best way to implement CDC to take incremental changes for reporting.

My question is: How can I insert a row for each unique TemplateId. So let's say I have templateIds like, 2,5,6,7... For each unique templateId, how can I insert one more row?

I'm being asked to create multiple filegroups for a new database based on the table type, transaction, lookup, misc... From what i'm reading this doesn't make sense. I'm reading either large tables get file groups, nonclustered indexes when they are about the same size of the data, or a few other reasons...
First of all, we are talking about the same disk (please don't ask me about how it is configured) and I'm not sure yet if restoring separate file groups is even going to be necessary.
So here are my questions (beyond, the test and see what happens) because in the end I'm going to probably have to do what i'm told. So this is for my professional knowledge.
1. Does file groups separated by table type make sense?
2. Should you put tables that are queried often together in the same or different file groups.
3. I'm pretty sure you can't restore single file group for write access, am I correct?
I am trying to replicate data from a view in the publisher to a table in the subscriber (transaction replication). I do not need the view's base table, or the view itself, replicated to the subscriber. I only want to data from the view to feed a table in the subscriber.
Is this possible?
Running SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise.
I have bunch of heap tables and the fragmentation seems to be high, i am not sure whether i shall add index for them, as these tables are inserted and updated every day.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWith all the new functionality, can 2014 now restore a single table from a standard backup without using any third party tools? I have looked, but can't see this listed as a feature (though that doesn't mean it's not there, maybe I've just missed it).
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a master table with after insert trigger on it.. When record is inserted into master table, the trigger fires and is captured in the backoffice table. In case the trigger fails, my record is neither in the master table nor in the back office table..

I am having an issue in determining the correct size of a table.
I have a tableA in some DB on transaction server (Enterprise Edition), this table is being replicated in reporting server DB (Standard edition).
When I check the space used by this table in both the databases i see noticeable difference.
I am using EXEC sp_spaceused 'tableA' to determine the space.
Transaction Server
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
name rows reserveddata index_size unused
TableA1439999 695416 KB507048 KB182912 KB 5456 KB
Reporting Server

name rows reserveddata index_size unused
TableA1439999 656904 KB483664 KB172680 KB 560 KB
So I wanted to know what could be the possible reasons for this difference ?
