Does anyone know a workaround for the code page translation that occurs if you use bcp to
transfer data in and out of SQL Server. I have a table that I am losing certain characters in the
transfers.
SQL Server 7.0 has the -C code page specifier added to BCP to address this but I am running 6.5 currently.
Any ideas on how to deal with this?

Has anyone come up with an easy way to change the code page sort order in the master database. Unfortunately, I inherited two machines running different codes and neither one is ANSI standard. I would like to get them both back to ANSI. Each one contains approximately 15 custom databases.
Any suggestions except prayer would be much appreciated.

Default code page in ETL package is 1252 which will not work if the collation is different e.g in Japanese_CI_AS, it is 932.
My question is how to write a generic ETL package so that it can cater any collation or any code page.
in microsoft doc there is written on the topic of BP Extensions with SSD's in SQL Server 2014: only clean pages are written to disk... does this mean data pages that have not been modified yet? or also those data pages that have already been modified, and where log has finished writing and the transaction has been marked as commited??
why are there clean data pages being written to L2 cache to make space for other not modified pages? I mean, shoudnt they be modified first, before letting other unmodified data pages into the Cache? I mean they have still to be modified..that makes no sense to me to page them out and page them in again just for other data pages...

This code was originally programmed in the SQL Server ActiveX Task type in a DTS package designed to take an open-ended number of SQL statements generated by another task as input, then execute each SQL statement sequentially. Upon this code's success, move on to the next step. (Of course, there was no additional documentation with this code. :-)

I am new to Visual Basic, so I'm on a learning curve here. From what I know of this script:
- The variables here violate the new Option Strict On requirement in VS 2005 to declare what type of object your variable is supposed to use.
- I need to explicitly declare each object, unless I turn off the Option Strict On (which didn't seem recommended, based on what I read).

I encrypt sensitive data before sending them on the net. but I think about a more basic problem: what happens to login data when transfered on the net? I mean, if user name and password are captured by hackers, they can make more serious problems than they find some sensitive data. what shall we do? is there any way for securing sql server login itself?

I am reading the official documentation on pages and extents. I've also read an article on the official SQL Server Blog (sadly, I can't link as a new member). These articles do a good job explaining what an extent is.Why use extents at all?I can't find a good example anywhere of how grouping pages into extents make SQL Server work more efficiently. Any good example of what SQL Server would be missing if it didn't have extents at all, and how extents fix this?

I am having an asp.net web site hosted in my machine's IIS (5.1). This aspx files are accessing data from an sql server 2000 database located in another machine. While i am trying to open a connection from the aspx files to the database, an error showing login failed for that user. Not a trusted sql server connection. so i unchecked the "allow anonymous access" in the directory security. But now its working from my machine (the web server, localhost). but when i try to access the aspx files from another machine with my system ip, the same error exists-Login failed for the user and not a trusted sql server connection.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have designed a fairly simple report in report designer that uses an analysis services cube as its input, and a basic matrix object as the primary design component. Cube performance either via object browser in Analysis Services or via connection from Excel is great. It does exactly what you build a cube for, i.e. it builds aggregations you can get to quickly. However rendering from a report designer report within Report Manager is a different story.
Even though this report is being rendered from an execution snapshot, it is painfully slow at opening and closing different levels of drill down. The report does have six levels of drill down, which I am sure is a factor. If I use a smaller dataset, performance does become more acceptable. However, I don't consider the requirements of my report to be all that extraordinary.
My conclusion thus far is that larger data sets with many possible page renderings are not the best candidates for HTML rendered reports. In this case Microsoft's cube analysis add-in to Excel might be a better choice. Thoughts and feedback on either how to improve the rendering speed or other presentation alternatives that would perform better would all be welcome.

I Iwill have many customers that will need their own set of records and access pages "branded for their company" each customer will have many clients. I am hosting this application on a windows 2003 server with SQL 2005 server enterprise.
I am using windows authentication, I have created a username in windows, then i added the windows user in SQL management studio in security, granted "DB Read" and "DB write" and again under the database security tab. still from the web authentication fails. i must be nissing a step or two?
I expect to set up a username for each database as i setup new customers.
I want to make the ReportServer and Reports pages secured i.e not allow anyone to access these pages via browser.
I login to a machine as user ABC. This user does not have permission on reports.
if this user accesses ReportServer or Reports, expected is that access should be denied unless I enter
an account that has been given permissions.
for e.x. following pages should be secured.

Step 1 : I have created a Cube with these two tables using SSAS.
Step 2 : I have created a report in SSRS showing Address list.
The Column in the report are User Name, Address, Country Name
But I have no idea, how to convert this Country Code to Country name.
I am generating the report using the Layout tab. ( Data | Layout | Preview ) Report1.rdl [Design]
Anyone help me to solve this issue. Because, in our project most of the transaction tables have Code and Code description in master table. I need to convert all code into corresponding description in all my reports.

I have developed a report that when displayed in page layout view is giving me blank pages with only heaer & footer information even though none of my groups have page breaks designated. This also occurs when exported to PDF.

i'm not sure that i understand how sql server stores data.
in documentation, i found that sql server stores data in pages.
every page have size of 8192 bytes (8060).
as i understand well, every table row is stored in one page. also, every table row can not be larger then one page. and that's where my confusion starts - because it sounds like we can not have data in table that is larger then 8060.
please, if you can you help me to understand this.

I have a report with a few subreports and after each subreport I've added a page-break. But I want to skip a page and to leave it blank if the previous subreport ends at an odd page, so the next subreport will start at the next odd page instead of the even page.
I use a transparent rectangle to add page breaks after each subreport, but because I don't have access to the Global.PageNumber variable in the body section of the report, I don't know when the page is even, so a second rectangle with a custom expression for the Visibility property is unuseful.
Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

My web project (ASP.NET 2.0 / C#) runs against sql server 2000 and uses the System.Data.SqlClient.using System.Data.SqlClient;
I use System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection and System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand to make the connections to the database and do selects and updates. Is it correct to continue to use these against SQL Server 2005? I ask because I made a connection string (outside of .Net) for SqlServer 2005 using the SQL native provider and it had the following - Provider=SQLNCLI.1 and any connection strings I had made (also outside of ASP.NET) fro SQL Server all used Provider=SQLOLEDB.1. This is why I wondered if there is a different SqlClient in .Net 2.0 for SQL Server 2005?
