SQL Server Compact Table Not Getting Data Edits Made In Datagrid From Vs05 C#

New to SQL Server Compact Edition and I am getting my feet wet with the following tutorial: http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdntv/episode.aspx?xml=episodes/en/20060831MobileRB/manifest.xml
I follow the tutorial exactly, but the data I edit through the Edit Dialog Form is not saved to the SQL Server table even though all of the edits appear in the datagrid. They never make it back into the table.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, Im trying to pull data from 2 fields in the same table into a SqlDataSource that feeds into a GridView, and display them as 1 field in GridView? I have a database table that has entries of users and their friends. so
this tblFriendUser has a column called UserName and another column
called FriendUserName.
I am trying to get a list of friends for that particular user. Note
that if User1 initiated the friend request, he will be listed as
UserName and his friend as FriendUserName, but if his friend initiated
the friend request, it will be vice versa: him being the FriendUserName
and his friend the UserName. So I want the following 2 queries run and merged into
one query in order to return 2 columns only: UserFriendID & UserName, is that
possible? Is my design bad? Any suggestions/advice would help! Thanks a lot!

In the Operating environment databases, may be made tables in the database on a temporary basis but they are still yet and they are not removed, how to identify tables that have been made on a temporary basis are not used (don’t have any read & write records)?

I am attempting to deploy a sample report (SQL 2005 Workgroup w/SP2) and I am receiving the subject error message when I attempt to view the report on the web server. We are using SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition connecting to an Oracle database.
Is this a limitiation of this version? In report designer, I am able to select Oracle as a connection type. If I try to create a data source at the server, "Microsoft SQL Server" is the only option available. If I look at the ReportServer config file, I see many other data connection types available. Did I miss a step, or is this a Workgroup Edition limitation (it's not documented as a limitation that I am able to find)?

Hi there,
I'm trying to run a query on a SQL Server 2005 table which has a WHERE clause that requires a query from my SQL Compact table.

AND Object_PARENT IN (select Object_CODE from LocalDB.PDADB.dbo.Objects)
Basicallly on a linked system, this query would find all new objects in my main database where the same objects exist in my local database. This would work just perfectly, no problems.
Now, the local database is actually on a PDA running SQL Server Compact Edition. There is currently no support for creating a linked environment. I have the option of pulling the table off the local db and pushing it to the remote db and then running the above query from within the single db and then retrieving the list of new entries and pulling them down to the local db but that is a HUGE amount of bandwidth, even if I just used the single primary key column.
Would anyone maybe have a little advice for me on how I could possibly achieve the above result on SQL Server Compact please?

We are upgrading from VS03/SqlMSDE to VS05/SQLExpress. The VS part was easy, the SQL part is not.
I have spent hours reading about the "Copy Always" option for a local stand alone computer SQL database that is part of the solution. I don't understand why this is an advantage...it seems to me to be downright dangerous....but it is the default. In simple terms, given the potential of loosing data, why would Microsoft make this the default (i.e. preferred way of doing something?)
On this same issue, I saw the following suggestion as a way to leave Copy Always but avoid the problems:
In the solution explorer -> right click on the database
select modify connection -> advanced options
search for the property AttachDbFileName -> c:...debugin
This specifically defeats Microsofts intent, so I am leary. Any thoughts?
The DataAdapters and DataSets in the VS 03 Component designer simply did not translate to VS 05. I can rebuild them all, but is there a better way? For example, the data adapters are still in a component designer document, but they did not translate to Table Adapters in the dataset designer (i.e. right click on a data set in Data Sources, view DataSet Designer), so they are basically unuseable. Is there a converstion tool? Any ideas?

I am used to work with relational SQL Server databases in other editions and am fairly new to SQL compact. I have installed the compact edition and successfully opened a connection and worked with DB objects in the Compact edition, using Server Management Studio.
I have 2-3 questions:
- Are there any means / drivers / data access installations that would allow me to connect to a SQL Compact database using the data access means that I am used to in other editions of SQL Server? In other words, can I install a data-access "converter" that would know how to talk to the SQL Compact databases over the usual TCP/1434 protocol (or any other port)? I am looking for this feature in order to connect to the SQL Compact the same way I connect to any other relational database. Right now, I am using Toad for SQL Server and it would be nice if I could connect to a SQL Compact.
- With other (non-Compact) editions, I can create an alias to a SQL Server and then specify the means to connect to the server. Can I create an alias to a SQL Compact database/server? I tried but unsuccessfully. This relates to my previous question- If I could create an alias, then I could (I imagine) connect to the Compact databases/server the same way I connect to any relational database using the alias.
- Are there any tutorials for people who are used to working with other (non-Compact) editions that are starting to work with Compact? Any BOL sections that explain the differences between other editions and Compact, from a management-tools/connectivity standpoint? I found some literature; wondering if there's something more detailed out there.

I am making a WPF app, and I want to use SQL Server Compact 4.0 for database management, but it doesn't support Remote data access, on the other hand SQL Server Compact 3.5 does support it but I can't use it in WPF ( I've installed it but can't add it in my project, it's not there in the templates). So is there any alternatives, for a light DBMS, that are not installed separately?

Ok here goes. I have 3 tables, one holds case info, the 2nd holds possible outcome on the charges, and they're joined on a 3rd table (CaseOutComes). With me so far? Easy stuff, now for the hard part.
Since there's a very common possiblitly that the Case has multiple charges, we need to track those, and therefore, display them on a datagrid or some other control. I want the user to be able to edit the info and have X number of dropdowns pertaining to how many ever charges are on the case. I can get the query to return the rows no sweat, but ...merging them into 1 record (1 row) with mutiple drops is seeming impossible -- I thought about using a placeholder and added the controls that way, but it was not in agreement with what I was trying to tell it .
Any ideas on how to attack this?

This is my case. I want in my datagrid to display first record from table A and second record from table B. This is because i need to display a price in the column where it will have current price and history price, therefore the first row will be current price and second row will be history price.
This is the output that i trying to do.

Trying to learn how to use Sql Server CE, Tutorial says to open server explorer, add connection, new connection, select data source as .net sql ce (words to that effect). On my visual studio, it ain't there and I can't figure out how to get it there. I have uninstall all of the Sql Ce stuff and reinstalled it. So I'm missing some key link. What are the magic incantations to get to first base?

Well, what I want is to be able to do some tooling on a database (.sdf) on my WM5 device using C# Express 2008.
The problem is that when I select the "Tools/Connect to database" option, I choose my data source to be "Sql Server Compact 3.5" in the next screen, and when I press Continue, I am taken to the next screen, and here I cannot select the "ActiveSync connected device" in the "Data Source" section...it is disabled. The only option is selecting "My computer"...but I do not need that.
Is there something I need to install in order to activate that option?

I am developing a system for my uni course and I am stuck a little problem...
Basically its all about lecturers, students modules etc - A student has many modules, a module has manu students, a lecturer has many modules and a module has many lecturers.
I am trying to get a list of lecturers that run modules associated with a particular student. I am able to get a list of the appropriate lecturers, but some lecturers are repeated because they teach more than one module that the student is associated with.
How can I stop the repeats?
Heres my sql select code in my cs file:

All of the tables have the same header row, but are a seperate table. From my experience, I am not able to bind more than one table to a datagrid. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can go about displaying this full dataset on my aspx page? I've been going in circles on this for two days, so I'm open to any suggestions :)

Hi All,
I have a program which shows some manipulate data from 2 tables on a datagrid.
I'm using another program to delete rows from both tables. (The second program activate from the PC using the RAPI dll).
I have sometimes a problem deleting records.
Actually the Datagrid is not suppose to be shown when the user use the second program, but since I'm not able to determine whether my first program is still running or not, is there an option to force the delete even if other program is using it?
If not, is there a way to stop the first program?

Hello,
we've got a SQL Server 2005 which replicates with an SQL Server Compact 3.5. Every 10 to 20 synchronisations we're getting the error mentioned above. A Soft reset of the device helps to make the synchronization working again.
Why is this error happening and how can we resolve this?
BTW, we've also running system that replicates with an SQL Server Compact 3.0 without having this problems.

Ok, I'm fairly new to .NET and even newer to the whole database concept. But, don't run away yet, I'm no idiot and I shouldn't have too hard of a time understanding your responses if you're kind of enough to give them. That being said, here's my dilemma:I'm trying to make a database of all the movies I own, the actors in them and the genre (s) they belong to. I have a set of tables that are in the 2NF (I think). I have a movies table, an actors table, a genres table, and two tables called movies_actors and movies_genres with primary-foreign key relationships to pull it all together (e.g. movie_id 1 has two entries in movies_genres, one for Action and one for Drama). My problem arises that when execute my monster query to pull ALL the data on one movie, I get a row returned for every combination of Genres and Actors in a movie. Example:movie_id movie_title comments actor_first actor_last genre_name1 Casino blah blah Robert DeNiro Action1 Casino blah blah Robert DeNiro Drama1 Casino blah blah Joe Pesci Action1 Casino blah blah Joe Pesci Drama And here's the query that produced that:1 SELECT movies.movie_title, movies.comments, actors.actor_first,

what i'm trying to do is simply display the contents of the sqldata to verify that it works. and it doesn't. i have created a simple database named 'test' and table 'list' with fields: 'name' and 'id'. i have made 3 records as follows:

what i did is connect to the database, click and drag it over to the canvas and codes were generated. if i run it, by default it should show all the contents of the table, correct? well, it isn't. i've tried it using a datagrid and it still doesn't work.
is there an access problem with the database? or, what settings to have to make/change in my sql server? by the way, i have MSDE.

I want to create a page(using GridView) where it will detect changes made in the database and display it for Administrator observation. I've created a table name history for this purpose.
History

History data will insert data whenever a changes made. Could anyone advise and direct me how to do this function. I was thinking of using stored procedure to insert the data. Thanks in advance.

Hi, we are almost finished developing our database and we have a table we want to monitor because it is getting information deleted from it
and it has a delete trigger on it but we want to track the changes to
the table and were wondering how to track specific changes to a user database?
We want to see who is making the change, what the change they are making is and also what is the time they are making it. I have used
SELECT * FROM SYSPROCESSES
and I am running SQL TRACE with filter on MS SQLEW, and MS TRANS, and
Visual Basic with SQL statements on tblRoute,( the table that I want to monitor) and I want to know if there is any other way to monitor this table more closely?

Should I be able to use a SQL Server Compact Edition sdf file as the data source for the SSIS Import and Export Wizard?
When I select the .net Framework Provider for compact Edition from the data source drop down, I get a message box with "An error occured which the SSIS Wizard was not prepared to handle. Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. (mscorlib) Specified method is not supported. (System.Data.SqlServerCe)"
We have a user with a sdf file that will no longer sync, so we wanted to get her data from sdf file tables into SQL Server tables quickly and easily. Since the SSIS wizard wouldn't work with the sdf data source, we copied SQL Server Mgmt Studio query results into an Excel spreadsheet via the Clipboard, them imported those records with SSIS. But we need a repeatable process in case this happens in the future.
We tried to reinitialize her merge replication subscription with SQL Server Mgmt studio, and with C# code, but none of that would work.
How many MS data provider options are available for SQL Server compact edition? I see ".Net Framework Data Provider for Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition" in the SSIS data source drop down, but shouldn't I also see an OLE-DB Provider for SQL Server Compact Edition?
This is all on my XP workstation where I can successfully write C# code for SQL Server Compact data access with Assembly = System.Data.SqlServerCe = C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 8Common7IDEPublicAssembliesSystem.Data.SqlServerCe.dll. So I think I have the proper tools installed.

I have recently downloaded Orcas beta VS product and had no previous version of VS before. The install went clean and I have been able to generate Window apps and web apps with very little issues; however, I have one issue with running a web app using the "view in browser" option for checking an aspx page for validity. If I use the default Northwind database provided and generate an aspx form using the "DataSet" toolbox widget, the tool prompts for the datasource etc. required to generate the required code. I can select the Northwind database and select the desired columns from one of the tables. Once completed, I build the project (clean build) and then select the "view in browser" option to verify the results. The result is an error page indicating a server error ->
Failed to find or load the registered .Net Framework Data Provider.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorsException: Failed to find or load the registered .Net Framework Data Provider.
I created on odbc connection to an iSeries(as400) box and was successfull in displaying the table on the webpage! I looked into the web.config file and it appears that all the required XML data is present. Any help would be appreciated as I am fairly green when it comes the .NET world.

After deleting all the test data from all tables in a SQL 2000 database, is there a way to reset all the auto-incrementing fields back to zero in one shot? In Access, you can run the Compact and Repair option. Also, in Sybase SQL, there was an "unload/reload" option to reduce the database size. Is there a similar function in SQL2000? Hello all, I was wondering. I am having trouble in my old age remembering to update my schema table when I make changes to the database. Is there a DB trigger or something that I could write to update this table for me when I edit or update a table structure, view, Trigger, or stored procedure?
