Can’t Get Desktop Version To Register In Enterprise Manager.

May 14, 1999

Hi,

I have 2 SQL7’s set-up running on two NT servers and 1 SQL7 setup in Win98. I can register all three servers in the Win98 enterprise manager BUT when I go over to the NT computers I can only see the two NT SQL servers. In other words, the I can’t register the Win98 Server in an Enterprise Manager running on either of the NT boxes. I guessing the problem has something to do with the networking protocols, (Win98 SQL7 Servers do not support Named Pipes).

What should I do to see the Win98 server in an enterprise manager running on a remote computer?

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Restore A Database Of Higher Version To Lower Version?

Sep 1, 2014

Is there any way to restore a database of higher version to lower version.

E.g. I have created a database in sql server 2012, created some tables & procedures in that.I took Full backup of that database. Can I restore it to sql 2008r2 or any lower version.

I know direct restore is not possible, I have to use either import or export option or generating script, but i want to know is there any easy step to do so.

Can I Install A Enterprise Version Analysis Service On A Standard Version Of SQL 2005 Server?

Jul 25, 2006

Hi all,

Since some analysis services features are only available in Enterprise version , I have to upgrade my SQL 2005 server from standard edition to enterpise edition.

So I uninstall originial standard version of analysis service and install a Enterprise version. However, the analysis service is still a standard version after installation.

Is it possible to keep data engine as standard version and install a enterprise version of analysis service?

Thank you very much

What Sql Server Version To Buy? Difference In Performance Between The Workgroup And Standard Version

Feb 19, 2008

Hello,I have been searching and reading a lots of information on the microsoft  website about the different version of SQL server, but still can not make my decision. In term of performance, is there a real big difference between the workgroup and the standard version? The workgroup is limited to 3 GB of RAM while the standard is unlimited, would that really change the performance if my server has 16Gb or RAM?The price difference is pretty substantial so if could only have to buy the workgroup , it would be better. One more question, regarding the type of licence, my server has 2 processors, could I avoid buying 2 licences and get the Server plus CAL instead. I am using this server to host 4 web-application running on SQL server. Each database is about 15 MB.Thanks in adavance for your advises.Arno

Changing From SQL Server Enterprise Evaluation Version To Developer Version

Oct 30, 2007

I am wondering if it is possible to change from SQL Server Enterprise Evaluation Version to Developer Version. The reason is because the Enterprise Evaluation version expires after 180 days. So if I create reports and cubes in Enterprise Evaluation I can import them into Developer Edition right? Should I remove the Enterprise Evaluation version after 180 days or leave it then install Developer Edition?

We have a 64bit os machine that we accidently loaded the 32 bit version of sql server on. We now want to upgrade it to 64 bit sql server, but we now have a production database on it. My understanding is that all I have to do is detach the production database, upgrade to 64bit sql server, then reattach the database. Is this really all I have to do?

Upgrade From SQL Server Standard Version To Enterprise Version

Nov 8, 2007

Can some one here give me more insight about how to upgrade a SQL Server 2005 Standard Version (32 bits) to a SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Version (32 bits) as default instance on a Windows 2003 enterprise OS (32 bits). I want to know what is the easist way and what is the safest way. May I preserve some settings I have for the STD version, or I have to start from strach again to configure the server? Is there any catches, anything I should have attention to (We are using heavily about CLR and fulltext indexing)?

Thanks a milliom

Non-release Version (600) Is Not Supported By This Version Of SQL Server

Apr 27, 2006

I downloaded the 101 Samples installation (i.e. 101SamplesCS.msi) from Microsoft's website, which contains SQL Server database files.

While working with the databases in the "Data Access" samples from the 101 Samples projects, I get the following error:

"Database <mdf_name> cannot be upgraded because its non-release version (600) is not supported by this version of SQL Server. You cannot open a database that is incompatible with this version of sqlservr.exe. You must re-create the database..."

I assume the database files were created with a beta or CTP version of SQL Server 2005. Does anyone know where I can get an updated version of these database files or scripts to update them?

Please help.

Mike.

MSDTC - Remote Accessing SQL Server 2005 From A Desktop Application - Windows 2003 Server

Dec 6, 2007

Hi,

I am developing a windows application that needs to communicate with a remote SQL server 2005 database. Server allows remote connections and MSDTC service also running. Do I need to run MSDTC service on the client machine where I use desktop application ? any ideas ? It's throwing some error like
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.
When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact
that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.

But my SQL Server allows remote connection, and I am able to do a select statement.
But when I insert/update anything, it's throwing this error. I guess some problem with MSDCT. Anybody have any idea ?

Unable To Connect To SSIS Or SSRS On SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition Server Via Desktop Connection

Mar 8, 2008

Hi,

I€™ve developed a BI system using the SQL Server 2005 Developer€™s Edition.

SSAS, SSIS and SSRS have been added to a SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition Server in preparation for delivering the developed database to this live environment.

So I am able to connect directly to the Database Engine, SSAS, SSIS and SSRS successfully from the actual SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition box which is sat on a Windows 2003 Server operating system.

However when I launch SQL Server Management Studio from a desk top PC which is connected to the SQL Server Standard Edition box I can€™t connect to either SSIS or SSRS, however I can connect to the Database Engine and it also seems that I can connect to SSAS OK.

I am using Windows Authentication where the I used a SQL Server account which exists with €śsysadmin€? permissions and this SQL Server account has the same login name as the Windows Server 2003 desktop login.

What do I do next please?

SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine

Feb 28, 2003

I have a few questions about the SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE), sorry there are so many ..

1. Which software products does this come with ?
2. If I create a SQL Server Database and want to distribute it to clients, how do I actually do it with MDSE ?
3. If I need to "upgrade" my database at some point in the future (that may contain data at a client site) how would I go about getting all the data out - would I need to write an external app ?
4. What are it's pros and cons when compared to installing full SQL Server on a client site ?
5. I've heard that the preformance of an MSDE Database degrades severely after more than 5 concurrent connections, is this just due to the performance of the product or is it something to do with the licencing model ?
6. Is it possible to write applications in, say VB, to alter the database once it has been installed on client site e.g. modify/create tables, indexes, stored procedures ?

Thanks for any help in advance ..

Scott..

DB Slow On Server But Fast On Desktop

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this extremely poor performance?

Difference Between Running MS SQL Server 2000 On A Desktop PC And A Server

Jul 20, 2005

Hi Everyone,Apparently, I was being asked on a question, "Why don't we procure adesktop PC to run MS SQL Server 2000 rather than a buying a server?".From a Management point-of-view, buying a desktop PC is much cheaperthan a server. However, I just wanted to understand that is it aviable solution given the database size is something around 200 GB?Equipping with more memory, more storage and a more powerful CPU on adesktop PC could really taking up the role to support the DBMS?Besides this "sensitive" costing concerns, what will be othersdifference in running the SQL Server 2000 on the two differenthardware architecture? For example, IO rate, reliability, RAID-1support, performance, … etc.(Note: The operating system is Microsoft Windows 2000 EnterpriseEdition)Regards,Ambrose
