SQL Server Enterprise Manager Could Not Start The Service 'MSDTC'
Jul 20, 2005
SQL Server Enterprise Manager could not start the service 'MSDTC' on server
'NTAS21'.
1722 - (The RPC server is unavailable)
I Setup A publication on a server called NTAS4D, then Pushed The
Subscription to another server called NTAS21. If I configure so that the
changes at the subscriber are not replicated to the publisher, all works ok,
I make a change at the publisher, it is replicated to the subscriber.
If I configure for updating at the subscriber, I am presented with a screen
stating that the following services must be started for replication to work:
SQL Server Agent on NTAS4D - Running
MSDTC on NTAS4D - Running
MSDTC on NTAS21 - Unknown
When I complete the wizard, I receive the message listed above.
The Servers are in two separate locations, each behind a NAT enabled router
using the internet to transfer data between the publisher and subscriber.
Any Suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

I just uninstalled SQL 6.5 from my server (Now totally running in 7.0 Mode) and now I can't get the MSDTC service to start again. I get the error "Could not initialize the MS DTC XA transaction manager" (In Application Log)... and error "The MSDTC service terminated with service-specific error 3221229574." (In system log). I believe that somehow MSDTC got uninstalled and I don't know how to reinstall only MSDTC? Any suggestions would be appreciated...
Thanks for any help

On one of our machines, all of the SQL Server 2000components except for the main Server component (SQL Servercore) itself were installed (Management tools, etc) a while agoand everything was running fine. Now I go and add/install theServer component and then Service Pack 3a.It seems that Service Manager won't start up (I get an hourglass cursor)and now I find that Enterprise Manager won't run as well. No errormessages appeared and I don't think I saw anything unusual inthe log file. However, I can use Enterprise Manager on a differentmachine and connect to the database (so the databaseitself seems to be running).Any suggestions as to what the problem might be and how tofix it? I like to see if I can repair this without havingto do a reinstall.Thanks.PF

I cannot understand why I cannot get my sql mail to work properly. It was working fine a couple of days ago. My mail profile is setup using Outlook. The only problem is that when I go to services and check the Mssqlserver & sqlserveragent, they are now logging in as the system account, but when I attempt to change them to the administrator account it says error 1057 occured: the account name is invalid or does not exist, yet it does. Anyone have any idea how to rectify this? this is what is on the error log:Error: 17919, Severity: 18, State: 1
2001-06-05 14:09:16.33 ods Invalid session..
2001-06-05 14:09:16.34 ods Error: 17951, Severity: 18, State: 1

Got an issue:
I am running SQL Server 7.0 on a Web server and recently the SQL Server has been acting up. Basically what happens is every time the server is restarted the Service Manager fails to restart. I even get an error telling me that the service failed to start. So, when I log back in I have to physically restart the Service Manager. I have the services set to start automatically. Can anyone direct me where to look...perhaps a SQL Server log that might give me a clue. My application and error logs only tell me that it stops. Any ideas?

Folks,We're implementing a software based mirroring solution. This solutionrequires that the SQL Server service on the target server be stoppedwhile data is being replicated from the source server. One problem we encountered while testing was that the SQL ServerService on the target server was inadvertantly started when usersselected that server in Enterprise Manager. Is there any way to keepthe service from starting through Enterprise Manager? Thanks

I am trying to do something simple to test TransactionOption. I have a ScriptTask (out of the box), which runs fine. To test TransactionOption, I set the Package Properties TransactionOption = Required. Straight away the package fails with the following message
Error: The SSIS Runtime has failed to start the distributed transaction due to error 0x8004D01B "The Transaction Manager is not available.". The DTC transaction failed to start. This could occur because the MSDTC Service is not running.
I am running this on my Laoptop, which has XP Pro with SP2.
I checked the services and MSDTC and it is running fine. I have checked the Event Viewer and saw the following messages... One is Information and the other is Error
Information (Disk - Event ID 2444)
----------------------------------------------
MSDTC started with the following settings:
Security Configuration (OFF = 0 and ON = 1):
Network Administration of Transactions = 0,
Network Clients = 0,
Inbound Distributed Transactions using Native MSDTC Protocol = 1,
Outbound Distributed Transactions using Native MSDTC Protocol = 1,
Transaction Internet Protocol (TIP) = 0,
XA Transactions = 0
Error (Devices - Event ID 4437)
------------------------------------------------
The account that the MS DTC service is running under is invalid. This can happen if the service account information has been changed using the Services snap-in in Microsoft Management Console (MMC). MS DTC service will continue to start. Please make sure that the MS DTC service account information is updated using the Component Services Explorer.
I have checked Component Services. All looks fine from what I can see.
Anyone else came across this?
Thanks
Sutha

Hello,
As newbie in server country I try a course example to test a distributed transaction accessing both SQL Server 2005 and Sql Server 2005 Express.
But I get an error message saying:
--->MSDTC on server is not available
I Internetted somewhere that MSDTC stands for TransactionManager service.
If I look in the 'Services' list I do not see something like MSDTC, so I think it is not installed or started.
How do I install or activate the MSDTC service?
Thanks in advange,
Henk

I've managed somehow to corrupt the Enterprise Manager.MSC file
(it has ocurred several times), so it's impossible to open a table.
What can I do about it except re-installing the server?
What can be done to protect this file?
Thanks in advance.

I'm a newbie to Enterprise Manager so I appreciate any help.
Here's my question:
I have a SQL Server 7.0 account hosted by a webhosting company on a shared server. When I create a server registration and attempt to connect remotely to this database using Enterprise Manager, I get the following error:
Server user "john_sa' is not a valid user in database 'test123497'
The problem is that test123497 is NOT the database that they are hosting for me. I rechecked my Client Network Utility alias to make sure I'm connecting to the correct IP address and I double checked my username and password.
The server hosting this account is attempting to connect me to the wrong database. Sometimes I get through ok and other times I get the above error.
Is this because the hosting company has too many accounts on this server? Is the server running out of resources? Is there anything I can do remotely to control this?
Any answers would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, john.

Why does the SQL Server Enterprise Manager seem to block other processes? I am working with SQL2000 developers version with SP4. When I set up a Data transformation service, it is not actioned until I close/open the Server Enterprise Manager. Otherwise it sits there as Process id 51 Master - runnable (this is the SEM) and Process id 52 - DTS sleeping.

I am trying desparately to build a user defined function on the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 viewer and when it is performed I get the following message:
[Microsoft][ODB SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Maximum stored procedure, function, trigger, or view nesting level exceeded
Is there any problem using sql MAX() built in function? How can I resolve this issue?
The UDF code is:
CREATE FUNCTION TestFunc (@Syn int)
RETURNS int AS
BEGIN
IF @Syn IS NULL
RETURN 1
DECLARE @NewPersonID INT
SELECT @NewPersonID = MAX(PersonID)
FROM GO_Test
WHERE SynagogueID = @Syn
RETURN ISNULL(@NewPersonID + 1, 1)
END
I call the function from the 'Formula' propery of a computed field of a table like this:
([dbo].[TestFunc]([SynagogueID]))
while SynagogueID is a field on the same table.

Hello,I'm having the following dilemma: I'm trying to connect to a database on a SQL Server, somewhere else in the country. - With Server Explorer in VS.Net it is no problem at all. New dataconnection: i fill in the ip-adress, user and pass, and the database-name i want to connect to, and voila, it's done. I can add, edit, delete everything.- With enterprise manager: With enterprise manager i can make a connection with the server, but after that the database isn't visible. And as far as i know i can't connect to a certain database. Another option i tried is to create a linked server on my local server: that does work, only now i can't add/edit/delete..I really want to work with enterprise manager, but is there any way to connect to one db only, and still be able to add/edit/delete ?? I can't find the solution..Please help..Much regards..J.JansmaThe netherlands
