VWD Express 2005 -- My application is working fine on local computer.
I used FTP to transfer pages to ISP - done.
Now I need to store SQL App_Data on their separate server.
I have a tutorial from the ISP that shows a step by step procedure for SQL 2000 starting with Enterprise Manager.
Is Enterprise Manager available for SQL Server Express? If not, how do you deploy the SQL App_Data to the web?

I have read/studied (i) Working with Databases in Visual Web Developer 2005 Express in http://quickstarts.asp.net/QuickStartv20/aspnet/doc/data/vwd.aspx, (ii) Xcopy Deployment (SQL Server Express) in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms165716.aspx, (iii) User Instances for Non-Administrators in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143684.aspx, and (iv) Embedding SQL Server Server Express in Applications in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms165660.aspx. I do not understand the concepts and procedures to do Xcopy and User Instances for non-administrators completely-I do not know how to connect to databases and create database diagrams or schemas using the Database Explorer. I have a stand-alone Windows XP Pro PC. I have created a ChemDatabase with 3 dbo tables in the SQL Server Management Studio of my SQL Server Express and a website of my VWD Express application with an App_Data folder. I am not able to proceed to use Xcopy and user instance to bring the 3 dbo tables of ChemDatabase to my App_Data folder. Please help and give me some detailed procedures/instructions to bring the 3 dbo tables of ChemDatabase (or ChemDatabase itself) from the SQL Server Management Studio Express to the App_Data folder of the website of my VWD Express project?

I have installed SQL Express on my computer, in a named instance (called Demo).
I have done my connection and my web site using this instance. So I updated my web.config file like this

<add name="DemoDb" connectionString="Data Source=localhostdemo;Initial Catalog=DemoDb;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=sa;Password=sa;Pooling=False" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>

And this is working perfectly well. Now I would like to do the same thing but use an attached mdf file to my web site.
So I try to add a new DB in APP_DATA and I have the error 40 (Shared memory provider - Could not open a connection to Sql Server).
Note that I was having previously the error 26 that "disappeared" when I updated my Sql Express connection to start the Sql Browser and to allow remote connections.
Any Ideas ?

When I attach the database with Server Management Studio Express, it list the name as: "C:site_testsite.mdf" eventhough on the live server the database is in the C:site directory and my connection string in my web.config is "C:sitesite.mdf". But everything works until a week later when I need to make a field change to a table on the live site: I'm forced to re-attach the database, but this time it list the database as:C:sitesite.mdf". When I re-attach I get a NT AUTHORITYSERVICE does not have permission. So I give NT AUTHORITYSERVICE permission on the directory and files and ownership with Server Management Stuidio Express, but I still get the error.What am I'm doing wrong? Everthing works fine in my local machine, but after I deploy the application to the production server, I am getting an error says: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. I can connect to the ISP database with Sql Server Mangement Studio Express. That connection requires a password.
When I try to execute 'restore', I get an error for no permission.
Any ideas why I have no permission after a password has already been entered?

I am deploying it using ClickOnce, and I'm wondering if there are any settings I have to change to SQL Server express, in order for my application to be able to access the database, since I'm getting an error when I start the application. I have a stand-alone Windows XP Pro PC that has SQL Server Express (SSE) and Visual Web Developer Express (VWDE) programs. The Microsoft "pubs" Database is installed in the SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE). I created a website in my VWDE program. I need the .mdf file of the pubs Database in the App_Data folder of website of my VWDE project. I think that User Instance in my SSE is established. I have studied Xcopy Deployment (SQL Server Express) and User Instance for a quite a while and I still do not know where and how to use Xcopy to get the mdf file of the pubs database into the App_Data folder of the website of my VWDE project. Please help and give me the detailed key steps/instructions about where and how to get the .mdf file of the pubs database into the App_Data folder of the website of my VWDE project via Xcopy.

I have installed 2 SQL Server 2005 Express sample databases from 2 books, ASPnet 2.0 and ADOnet 2.0. The ASPNETDB.MDF was shown in App_Data and Database Explorer, but not in the SQL Server Management Studio Express. The AdoStepBy Step database created by a ConfigDB.exe was displayed in the Management Studio, but not in the App_Data, or Database Explorer.
Is this the way SQL Server 2005 runs the 2005 databases for SQL Server 2005 Express only? Or also in SQL Server 2005?

The project I'm working on has been developed using SQL 2005 Developer Edition and VS 2005, so up until now VS has been handling the task of deploying my C# managed code stored procedures to the database.
Now it's time to deploy a beta of the product, and we want to use SQL 2005 Express, and take advantage of it's new XCOPY deployment mode which in turn means we can also take full advantage of Click Once for our software updates. The idea here is that we can deploy new or updated stored procedures in a managed DLL using Click Once, making updates presumably more simple and robust.
So the steps we need to complete at runtime are:
1. Dynamically load and access the database MDF file using SQL Express (done).
2. Enable CLR Integration for the dynamically loaded DB (done)
3. Instantiate all of the stored procedures - help!
Looking at the docs, it seems we have to execute the following SQL for each and every SP:
CREATE PROCEDURE <Procedure Name>
@inputArg2 type, @inputArg2 type, @inputArg3 type OUTPUT
AS EXTERNAL NAME <Assembly Identifier>.<Type Name>.<Method Name>
But, we're talking about literally hundreds of stored procedures that need to be instantiated here, which obviously means a lot of double-definitions and a fairly high chance of bugs creeping in.
Surely there has to be a better way?

I have a vs2005 deployment project and have set prerequisites to include sql express. This is not what I need however since I need the advanced version with full text search.
How can I make sure that the advanced version of sql express is installed when my app is installed?

Anyways, I'm new to .net and all that stuff, and I was wondering if there were any differences (code-wise) between developing on 2005 Express and running on SQL 2000. I know there would be variations in the connection string, but I wasn't sure about anything else--specifically if they both use the sql provider thingy (I forget the name of it, since I don't have my book in front of me). I built a web site using IIS and ASP.NET 2.0.
My web site has a log on screen and I only configured it with one user without any roles. This web site uses the SQL EXPRESS.(I Have 2 databases: 1 for the security required by the application and the other for my application. for the connectionstring I used a windows authentication security with an instance = true.)
Everything went well on my PC.
When I tried to deploy the web site on another PC, there was a big problem.
When I tried to login with the same user I created, then I have a problem.
The password is incorrect(Why? I don't know).
Maybe there is a problem with the IIS or with the SQL SERVER.

I have developed an application on the Intranet, but what I have done is dealing with the database directly using MS SQL Server 2005 server. But I have seen some people or videos where they create the database on "App_Data" folder.
I am going to develop online application on Internet this time, I should develop it offline on my machine. So, I have 2 questions foe now:
1) What is the right way to create MSSQL 2005 database? in "App_Data" or in MSSQL 2005 server?
2) When creating database in "App_Data" folder, is it going to be created automatically or shown on my MSSQL 2005 server?

On my VWD 2005 Express, I have installed 2 SQL Server 2005 Express databases in the App_Data folder.I kind of remember these 2 databases were installed from Wrox web site or a zip file. Now we still useSQL Server 2000 databases for our ASP.net applications. I have downloaded the SQL Server 2005 Express.These 2 databases in the App_Data folder seem to work fine although I can not see them from theManagement Studio Express.
My question is: How do I 'manually' create a new SQL Server 2005 database into the App_Data folder?

I dont alot about sql server 2005(Express edition). For debugging purposes i want to copy the whole app_data folder(.mdf & .log files) on the production server to another folder on the same machine(or sometimes to a network folder). So when i copy and try to paste this App_data folder to a new location, i get this error message
"cannot copy ASPNETDB: it is being used by another person or program. close any programs that might be using the file and try again."
After reading the above message, i close visual web developer, stop the website in IIS and stop the SQLExpress service on the server and try again but still get the same message.
So how can i make sure that all the programs accessing these database files are closed such that i'm able able to copy them to a different location.

Ther is a DSN (fileDSN, SystemDSN, UerDSN) on the client machine. User of the client machine has created a DSN which is connecting to the MS-Access database of his own machine. When user deploy that DSN to the Local Server, Server getting problem to finding the DSN (which is made on client).

I am using CREATE ASSEMBLY to load dll form my server to SQLServer on my server (Same machine). How can I load the dll to another server? Do I have to write it on a directory on that server first? I tried to run the command from my pc connected to the other server, and I get a "cannot find file" error.
If I already have SQL2005 installed, can I create SQL express databases for distribution in my app, or do I need to install SQLExpress to run side-by-side?
I actually had SQLExpress originally but upsized it to the full version. Now I want to be able to create portable DBs with my application.
And if this is possible, how do I go about creating the DB?

"System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Cannot open user default database. Login failed."
It occurred when my application try to access the App_Data, because I use Profile to store user data. I can connect to SQL Server just fine, but failed to access the App_Data. How to change the SQLExpress (because I assume that App_Data store its data in SQLExpress) username and password within the application?

I loaded an application to my server with the app_data folder intact in the application folder which is a sub folder of the root web.
Through my host enableing SQL somehow a second App_Data folder has been created in the root of the web and the db has been duplicated. Without a doubt this is causing a problem with the application not running correctly. The application is the asp.net membership app which is trying to read and write to the .mdf file.
Can we simply delete the App_data folder in the the root web or will this rebuild itself? Or do we need to edit the web config files?
How / Why did this happen?

I would like to deploy several reports to production server, Do i need to install reporting services entire software in order to run the reports or is it possible to just have runtime files installed on it to run the reports.

If this tool can't make it (versioning), which tool/method did you recomend me?
